GYMVMT Fitness Club - Kensington

Last year they when I signed for membership they didn't mention the yearly fee, now all of a sudden you see them charging a yearly fee of $50.45!
Management this not nice, you should communicate better and don't hid the fees.
Be clear, lots of competition, you don't offer anything great of other gyms in the area! Not nice.

The gym is nice, however, canceling your membership is a nightmare! 4 months of emailing and phone calls, requested cancellation forms and to pay the cancelation fee multiple times while they drag things out as long as possible to get as much money as they can from you. They're crooks, 100%.

Mia is definitely the best receptionist, she is always greeting everyone with a smile! And always willing to help someone who needs it.

Good gym, clean, people are friendly and welcoming. Make sure you call and ask when membership is done or else they will keep charging.

Emma is the sweetest, most helpful receptionist! Every time we come in, she welcomes us with a warm hello. It makes coming to the gym fun.

I really enjoy working out here. There’s plenty of room with lots of equipment to use. Always a clean environment and super friendly staff.

Have been a member for over a decade. Over the past few years they have removed so much of the equipment and everything is crammed together. Just such an awful experience that we no longer go. We’ve talked to the staff repeatedly but no one cares. We won’t be back.

Good gym, clean, people are friendly and welcoming. Make sure you call and ask when membership is done or else they will keep charging you. Also, if payment doesn't go through they will also charge you an extra 15$ on top. Something to keep mindful of!

Harassment phone calls and texts.
I have been getting promotional "calls" and texts from this place for the past few months, after looking at their establishment, a year ago. I have explained that I am NOT interested. Want to be harassed by a company? Call these guys!

This Gym is so nice, they have a lot of machines to do a really large variety of exercises. The instructors are very friendly. It is clean, and every one is respectful.

I didn’t want to sign up here seeing their reviews but I only did because my friend said they would care take of everything just to have me come work out with them, payment and all.

I have memberships with GoodLife, City of Edmonton, Factory fitness, and go to the University often. I like fitness and am willing to pay for it but GYMVMT has made my experience so horrible even though I am very hands off with them. I thought my friend had cancelled a while ago but I just received a call out of the blue saying I owe them money.

First of all, if GYMVMT was taking money without providing a service or product it is theft. Second, any money taken while my friend is requesting an immediate cancellation is still theft and solely due to their negligence. Do we really need to resort to legal actions to make this clear? Third, they are a hassle and resort to bullying. My only contact with them (other than the initial sign up) was to let them know that I am not involved and my membership should have been cancelled long ago and I had to hang up because of the harassment (it was honestly kind of shocking).

I encourage everyone experiencing harassment and theft from GYMVMT to contact legal support.

Anyone looking to sign up with this gym should be aware of their malpractice and are most likely probably going to shut down.

I would highly recommend EVOLVE for lifting, Factory for a good climb and gym with good equipment and an excellent customer service experience, the city and university gyms for accessibility and easy cancel/sign up process. GoodLife doesn’t have as good equipment and again, I am wary of how they will act when it comes time for me to cancel but they are still no where near as bad as GYMVMT even when it came to signing up.

All of the staff are helpful and very easy to deal with.
The gym is always clean and organized.

Vimy who is the manager is an ABSOLUTE horrible horrible person. SHE IS SOOOOOO RUDE IM NOT JOKING. She literally needs to get fired. Even her workers were so intimated to call and ask her a question. SHE IS A LIAR Words can’t emphasize how rude and difficult she made things.

I am very satisfied and very happy to be here the gym is very clean and very organized, receptions are very friendly and very lovely and will never found a place like this in Alberta

Absolutely love this gym! The trainers and staff are easily the most friendly, approachable, and easy-going people you'll have the pleasure to meet. There is zero judgment, and 100% support all the time. The facilty is clean, it has awesome equipment, and is an all-around joy to workout in.

Great selection of training equipment and if you're into competing or reaching your personal best, go see Steph she knows her stuff!

I was incredibly intimated to join a gym and start my fitness journey but I have had nothing but the most amazing experience since joining here. Cassie was amazing when she signed me up and has been a constant motivater and friend since. I do personal training with Alan and he is super personable and has taught me so much! The classes are so much fun and everyone is friendly and helps you out and cheers eachother on. It's truly like a little gym family! So grateful I made the choice to come to this gym. They offer so many classes, have lots of machines to use, the steam room is relaxing after a hard work out and the facility is always nice and clean.

I had no issues with physical facility.

My issues had to do with management. I cancelled my membership in March 2022 (when my membership ends in July 2022) to avoid the "cancellation fee". It was not until I cancelled my membership did I receive "welcome" emails.

End of June I got a text message from an individual by the name Geo notifying me there was a balance on my account. I call my home location and immediately the receptionist said there is a balance on my before actually looking at my account. As you can imagine I am livid because I cancelled 4 months in advance. She advised that Geo was at the head office but the manager was going to give me a call back, it is now 3 days later and I have yet to receive a call back.

I texted Geo advising him that I cancelled my membership in March (I also sent a screenshot) so there is no reason why there should be a balance. I will also say it is rather odd that Geo was texting me from multiple different numbers. I advised Geo to confirm that there is no balance, my membership has been cancelled and to remove my banking information.

I will not be going back to this gym.

As a Personal Trainer who doesn't work here but Workout here, it has all the Equipment needed and more, all the staff knew my name by the first week, and the equipment is all new! The front desk staff are SO welcoming regardless of where you are in your fitness journey

Love the atmosphere at this gym, the front desk staff is always so friendly and often turns a bad day into a good one

They have nice full size lockers and great steam room to use before shower. Great variety of classes and friendly teachers like Rhondelle I recommend

GYMVT Kensington has given me the best experience any gym has to offer. Personal trainers are exceptional along with a full complete gym suiting all fitness needs. Overall a fantastic gym with a very welcoming front desk and enthusiastic environment

A good place to workout with lots of varieties. Only small issue I have is there are no complimentary lotions

This is a great gym, the best part about this place is the showers are amazing. I look forward to the shower every time I walk in. It is pretty compact but you’ll find everything you need. It’s laid out nice, staff’s good. This is my home gym and love this place.

Very friendly staff, great variety of equipment, and lots of effort put into maintaining a sanitary environment.

Stay away from this gym, as mentioned in MULTIPLE REVIEWS, they are SCAM artist. I called in mid-late April to make sure my membership will not get renewed when the lockdown is over. They assured me it was cancelled and everything was good to go. Sadly, I made the mistake to believe them. NOW, 3 months later, I am getting charged and the general manager refuse to reimburse me, claiming I never cancelled my membership. Absolutely infuriating that a major company like this can scam MULTIPLE customers and get away with it.

If I could give negative stars I would. This joke of a gym has been giving me the run around for the last couple months about canceling my membership. And continuing to charge me even after I’ve asked to cancel it on numerous occasions. Don’t ever go here, the whole place is an absolute joke.

I can only speak from experience but this was the worst experience I've ever had with a gym. The only reason I gave two stars was cause the facility was chill but management was horrible to deal with. Had a few issues it took 2 weeks to get a call back and the only reason they ended up calling me back was because I had requested head offices number. Id just say be wary.

Withdrawn 2X money from my account while my membership is suppose to be on hold. Explained I am unable to wear a mask while working out due to medical reasons. Membership was to be put on hold till this restriction is lifted. Not happy at all. No call no warning no nothing.

Before the pandemic, this gym was definitely one of my favorites in the city. Although I cannot blame the gym for shutting down, I will blame them for the horrible customer service they offer.
I recently cancelled my membership/training in-person before the latest restrictions/shutdown in December. As well, I also contacted by the fitness manager at this location to pause/freeze my account to prevent any billing from occurring during the recent shutdown. However I was charged twice irregularly (no bi-weekly or within my normal billing cycle) right before and after Christmas.
This was not the first time I was charged during one of the many shutdowns either, which leads me to believe that GYMMVT does not know what they are doing, nor do they value their customers especially during time where people are struggling.
I did contact support about this, however I was told that my cancellation was only a 30 day notice of cancellation and not actually cancelling on the day I wanted to. Once again, GYMMVT has decided to use hidden fees and hidden terms in their contracts to take every dime from their customers and this also why I will refuse to support this gym going forward.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from here until they figure out how to run a business or offer actual customer service.

I recently decided to join the gym because I wanted to get prepared for my fitness test for the university I’m applying to and change my lifestyle overall. I have to say this gym is awesome! The trainers are always guiding you and making you go at your own pace and the workouts are quality, for a guy like me who has not ever been to a gym due to personal anxiety and the lack of confidence, they do make sure that you are comfortable and always made me challenge myself. Also, despite my schedule being tight Alexandria was determined and always helped me make sure I can get a session in on the days I was available. I would like to thank Doug, Bailey, Zeinab, and Ashley who have and are currently helping me train and continue to guide me on my fitness journey. To anyone who is looking for a gym to join, I highly recommend you check this location out.

Great place to workout. Friendly staff and gym goers. The place is continuously sanitized by their custodian; awesome. Few showers working for social distancing.
For me, it's a little over my budget. Worth the stay until the winter passes.

Worst management ever, i had to pay the cancellation fees twice first one was for world health and then to gymmvt just to stop them from talking payments for the membership with them

They are really pushy at first, really facilitating until you sign up, once that's done you're in for continuous surprises in the form of stringent cancellation policy and hidden charges. They kept charging my credit card despite gym being shut down due to COVID. They just love milking your credit card! I am sure there are better gyms out there!

Terrible, unprofessional business.

They continued to charge our account while they were shutdown and promised us that it would go towards our membership when they reopened. I thought that was fair, as this is a very tough time for our economy, however when they reopened our membership fees continued to be taken out of our account in full. After a very complicated and lengthy process of trying to contact management they agreed to credit us $7/month off of our membership until it was paid back, essentially locking us into a 2 year contract with them.

We just want our money returned from when they were closed, and our membership ended. Until this is rectified, I will continue to advise anyone to NOT do business with ANY GYMVMT or World Health.

The business side of Gymvmt is as shady as it gets. Salesman will distort the truth or outright lie to you to get you to sign up. Once you are on with them forget any sort of customer service or ethical practices. During Covid they outright refused my initial request to stop payments and it took me months to get them to reverse and credit.

After that I had no faith in the club and dealing with senior managers Julian Wild and Dawn Livesly resulted in conversations in which they had no concerns about the actions of their staff and company but rather just pay us $100 and you can leave. I wish I was joking but having sent them proof in the past of the salesman's lies about the clubs policies and expressing concern over their handling of my money during covid it was met with, it doesn't matter, just pay us and you can leave.

This club won't be open long. Be wary signing anything with them.

Contacted them multiple times to cancel my gym membership during the pandemic. No responses. No emails. Countless unreturned phone calls and voicemails. STAY AWAY.

Not a review of Kensington itself but GYMVMT as a whole.
A business that continues to bill even when shutdown is pure sleaze. They made it the customers responsibility to contact them to stop payments and you can't contact them. How convenient for them. My coworker had to cancel his card to stop them and he is now working with Visa to get refunded.

Not well maintained l. Very dirty no one ever cleans the machines after use. Been under construction for nearly 4 months. So I switched to club fit a lot cleaner and we'll maintained.and to see only 1 hand sanitizer In Ken's gym wow. The floors are filthy constantly. I think gymmvt owners need to get out more and look. There's mold in the showers even where the soap is. The steam room is a incubator for germs big time. When was that room ever sanitized? Some patrons may not care but for an average 60 a month fee plus paying a maintenance fee once a yr you would think it would be better. It's a place that needs more than focusing on membership.

Place has gone downhill rapidly since the name change. I was a member for 12 years and only lasted 3 months after this brand relabel.

This company does not car about existing members, AT ALL. Typical push to get you locked into a contract, and they hope you never show up.

Now the worst gym in the city, by far.

The Kensington GYMVMT is currently under renovation and members were given no notice of the renovation. Also, there has been no information about how long the renovation will last. For Northwest Edmonton members this is disappointing as this forces many to have to use the St. Albert Trail facility which does not provide the same level of cleanliness.

I do not blame the staff at the Kensington location for this issue. The owner (s) of GYMVMT need to be more communicative with members and use more foresight with planned renovations. Overall, there has been a steep decline in quality and cleanliness with the GYMVMT brand. As a longtime member I am willing to give GYMVMT a chance, however, continued poor communication and quality will lead to me and many others terminating their contracts. Please do better.

Very disappointing with the change more effort into painting then actually getting new equipment.very clear there out to just save a buck

I received a 1 month free trial with this gym. All I wanted to do was get the trial and see how I like the gym. I had an appointment with Amanda who was selling me the gym membership and she did not even acknowledge the trial that I had. The women's section is horrible. They give out free cheap products which you can buy from the dollar store. Incredibly high prices for absolutely no reason. They do not offer tanning, massage or anything specific. They just want your signature on the membership forms and money.

I never went inside, they have free WiFi and I was able 2 connect successfully unlike the superstore WiFi which only works when your indoors.

Changed over to worldhealth at the beginning of the year and it was by far the best decision I've made. Never crazy busy, no kids horsing around, the staff is amazing and the trainers are extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend this location to people.

Kensington location sold me my membership and gave a 2 week trial pass to family members last year. Called today to inquire about a family friend wanting to try the gym.the rep felt the need to bring up the fact that my family members didn't join the gym after the trial and was upset he couldn't contact me for them to join. His tone was rude and arrogant, not wanting to let my family friend try the gym just because she is 17. I definitely would not recommend dealing with this rep if wanting to sign up at the gym.

If world health club gets upset because people dont join their gym after trying it, what is the point of the trial pass.

Having a membership at a gym that dose not allow friends to try the gym is ridiculous.

Very nice locker and change room facilities. Workout area is a bit small and congested and would get crowded during busy hours.

I joined in May, and signed up with a personal trainer at the same time. I bought a package of 12 sessions with Devon, just to get started on the right track. Now almost a year later I have renewed my training sessions with her many times, and with some great results. Bonus I am off my blood pressure meds. Yes I would recommend it.

I attend the zumba classes here but out of all the World Health's I have been to this one had out dated equipment and not as many treadmills and there always seems to be a few out of order. Ladies area needs a treadmill and more equipment.
