I went here to atleast celebrate my birthday, but It wasn't a great dining experience for me. I availed they're premium AYCE, my server didn't even check on my table from time to time, I have to wait to for my requested food to come up. (I was a solo diner mind you). So I kind of lost my appetite throughout the meal. Wished I have dined somewhere else worth my time and bucks that certain day! Not a great way to end my special day!
Ordered thru DoorDash.spent enough money for my hubby to expect leftovers, but portions were so small that I was still hungry after a meal…. Only cucumber salad tasted good - noodles were mushy, dumplings tasteless. Never again.
Had an excellent valentine's experience here. All the staff were super nice and friendly. Food was delicious. And the bathrooms were clean.
Definitely take your time to enjoy the food, let it cook slowly and have an amazing time talking with those you came with. Fried chicken karaage was amazing, would definitely come back just for that if anything.
Then savoir every bite, so delicious. Cooking the meat was very fun, yiu could have the steak medium rare if you wanted, you could switch it up that rarity you want because you're the chef! I will admit that it felt a little bit expensive considering you do the cooking, but the taste I'd say is worth it the way the beef is marinated for so long the flavor is amazing.
For desert we had the corn butter, very buttery and alot of corn, my girlfriend thought that it tasted like, well exacally what it was. I couldn't get the taste of apple crumble out of my mouth, it just tasted like apple crumble, I can only assume it's because my mind relates the cast iron pans to the Kegs apple crumble that comes in a very similar pan. But it did taste good nonetheless.
I would switch out the spicy pork for the regular pork (yet again because I'm white and can't handle the spice) and probably would not have the chicken again. There's nothing wrong with the chicken, it just didn't seem to be marinated or sauced up with anything so it was the equvilant of just grilling a chicken breast at home.
Other than that I very much enjoyed the heat from the grill and that atmosphere felt like you were in a bar in Japan very cool.
Rate 1 star cuz I can‘t rate 0. We got reservation at 7: 15,but still had to wait 40 more mins to have a seat. And we waited another 35 mins to get our meat, with only water, salad and spinach. Tbh I wanna leave when it was 7: 30,but my friend insisted to have dinner here. Definitely not coming back
Went here for New Years Eve. It was superb! Super busy but expected for the evening. Food was plentiful, and the drinks were flowing. Will definitely be back!
We came here on a Wednesday evening with a reservation and a table of 10 people for my friend’s birthday. I think they were seriously understaffed tho, because the service was painfully slow. It took an hour and 45 minutes to get our food. And that was after we had to wave down the waiter to order. And everyone was served at different times. Some people had to wait an additional 45 minutes for their food while others had already finished eating. Most of the food was decent enough, however the Vegetable Bibimbap hardly contained any vegetables. The menu said it contains mushrooms, broccoli, asparagus, green and white onions, red bell peppers. See pic for reference of what we actually got. To top it all off, having to pay a mandatory 18% gratuity on such poor service and sub-par food, this meal was definitely not worth it.
If you want to be treated rudely, you must come to this restaurant! It's hard to imagine that we have met such a rude waitress! She forgot to give us the clip and sauce, but her attitude was like it was our fault. She said we were rude! But my friends and I didn't say anything impolite. At the same time, a man who claimed to be a "manager" not only had a bad attitude, but also did not intend to solve the problem. He even plans to ask other waiters to call the police. If I didn't want to continue wasting my Christmas time, I really wanted to see how the police would solve this problem. We came there to eat. We are not prisoners, but the yellow haired waitress and the man who claimed to be the "manager" treated us like prisoners! I can't understand why!
What kind of expensive restaurant does not accommodate customers waiting to be seated? The least you could do is acknowledge the customers waiting while you're busy. So rude.
Really enjoyed this location! Since the food is cooked by you. It is difficult to rate the food on my cooking skills. However, the meat is very tender and enjoyable. Very pricey in my opinion but overall great experience and variety. My experience was great. I hope you get the same or better experience.
Last couple visits after a few years, still a fun event. Set for four was a good amount of food, we only ordered extra cheesy corn. They didn't tell us how long to cook the items this time, not a big deal though
Been here 3 times and it delivers everytime. Not only is it absolutely delicious but the atmosphere and service are top notch. If you want to go somewhere with friends or just for a date I couldn't suggest it more highly. The food is always on point.
Excellent service! Both waiters were so friendly and welcoming, definitely will be returning. We ordered the deal for 4 people & it was more than enough. Delicious and amazing atmosphere:)
Its right on Main Jasper Ave a nice set up I preferred a Dine in which I did although online orders for take out also an option. My food taste good so do the Sopporo beer as well. This kind of entry in Downtown I say price and service comes along just fine. Oh and proudly supporting the Oilers Hockey Team.
Great menu variety to choose from, they offer multiple grill sets as well. Staff were very friendly and helpful with explaining menu items and recommended grilling times for each dish. Originally came here for a friends birthday and look forward to visiting again, the seating set up is cozy and comfortable making it easy to lose track of time eating and chatting the evening away.
First time I've ever gone out for Japanese BBQ and we didn't know we had to make a reservation. We were found a seat on a Friday night and Annie was one of the best servers I've ever had. She had excellent recommendations, told us exactly how to cook the food and for how long, organized the plates based on cooking duration, and always ensured our drinks were topped up. 10/10 will ask for Annie again when we most assuredly come back.
Love this location thanks to manager Juyeon (June) - even though I’ve went here multiple times in a big group to just a date, service by this manager is tiptop shape. When food wasn’t up to standard, he would make it right.
If there is zero star I would give it for this restaurant and unprofessional employees.
Be aware people!
Today I want with my family for a dinner here with 5 Adults and 2 kids (1years old and 5yrs old). For The first time ever I experience something strange in Edmonton Restaurants because they charged me for CHILDREN under 7 as the Adult and I have to PAY 18% TIP at the door because we are 6 people (include the kid under 7yrs old). They said that because she is a “people” not a child and we have to count as Adults.
I have been to many restaurants in North America and I never had this kind of service. I would never come back here or recommend for anyone to come here specially if you have many kids. Don’t ever come here.
Very yummy experience. First time at a Japanese BBQ restaurant and I greatly enjoyed it. The customer service was topnotch as our grill was replaced at every cook round. The only downside is that we had to wait for a while to get seated. Overall, a place to be recommended.
Good food and awesome value for lunches. Dinner sets are okay, but are pricier and I found it to be heavy on meat. A smaller set and some sides may be a good idea.
Horrible service! No water for us! Even the grill is broken. We asked for water for several times but didn’t get it till the end of our meal. Can’t find a waiter to change the grill for us. I have to go grab the grill by myself? We need to ask for the small sharing bowl for three times to get it. Horrible horrible service. The table we sat is just next to the entrance, I have to suffer the cold winter wind during the whole meal. Everything is sooooo slow. Disappointed! I used to come here from time to time and I know your restaurant are very popular and very busy, but lowering your service standard is unacceptable. Please hire more waiters. Not gonna come back recently.
Definitely deserves more than 5 stars! The food is great and perfectly seasoned, but what makes it even better was the service! We got Kevin as our server and he was really nice and energetic, and I can tell that he really loves his job there! Will definitely come back for more!
Yummy experience great place to hang out with friends while cooking the staff is great too always made sure to ask us if everything was okay and top up our beverages
Food was ok but the service was terrible. The meat (raw) took forever to come out, the rice that it comes with wasn't even brought out until we've just about finished all the meat in the combo (which we had to ask for it). They didn't even refill our water, we had to ask for it and still it was never filled again. We had to bring our own empty drink glass to the bar and dessert took forever and the cake we brought took also forever (20+ minutes) get brought out. Overall bad service and food was not good enough to justify. Our meal was mostly waiting and lasted over 3 hours. Don't think we'll becoming back.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and pretty attentive. Great meat selection and great meat quality. Fun experience, especially in groups. Good drink menu.
Wow.what a great dining experience. Grilling your own meat. Marinades and seasonings were right on. Nothing to spicy. Portion sizes were ample.we ordered the 3 meat choice for lunch each. 6 different meats in this case, and had some left over, after stuffing our selves. Staff was very efficient and friendly. Salad, soup and lunch entree (choice of 2 meat or 3 meat plus bowl of rice) is very well priced. Cooking it yourself right at your table was very nice. The ventilation was exceptional, we didn't smell like barbeque after we finished up. The evening menu looked remarkable with lots of great options for the whole family.
Website and the front of the restaurant does not state you have to make reservations. I walk into the restaurant looking for my friend who wasn't there yet. I saw about 12 tables not reserved and it wasn't even busy. I think it was really disappointing that they couldn't sit down two people to BBQ but we can sit at the bar and not eat.
The food and the atmosphere seems to be good, I've only tried a few of their items so far at lunch time, but everything so far is good. It's best to make a reservation online ahead of time.
A very delicious Japanese BBQ restaurant with a wide variety of high quality beef. The table BBQ setup is a great way enjoy cooking all the types of food. The appetizers are professionally plated taste excellent. Be sure to make a reservation.
Amazing food, the prices are very reasonable and you get to cook it yourself. Very family friendly and very clean. Took the family here and it was well worth it.
Sorry no pictures this time, next time I go I will add.
Service is the only thing lacking, but for how busy they were that day it makes sense. Just something that needs to be improved. Could also have been the section we were sitting in.
I came here for lunch today and had a great experience! The food was delicious and grilling the meat myself was something new and fun for me! The inside of the restaurant was really nicely renovated. I really liked the booth I got seated in, as it felt nice and private (even though the restaurant was really busy). Excellent service as well! I will definitely come here again
Amazing unique experience in Edmonton. We had the meat lovers set and had to take some home because it was to much. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is very authentic. I will definitely be going back! This is now my favourite spot in Edmonton!
After going from the Calgary location to the Edmonton one I was disappointed. My server, Linda was rude and dismissive, we also waited an extremely long time for our food.
Food was good, portions were on the smaller end, service was good until the bill, we had a larger group but it took 50 minutes from the time we requested the bill until we received it
Great lunch experience! You get to grill your own meat at your table. Lots of options for meat, veggies and rice and nicely marinated. Meals also come with soup/salad included. They also have some success and spice at the table too for additional flavoring.
Great prices, nice atmosphere, and great service, keep it up guys!
Great place for groups and dates. It's extremely clean and they have a modern ventilation system that keeps the restaurant, and your clothes, smoke free.
It's a good experience overall. Gyukaku offers a selection meets, and side dishes and a wide selection of sake, soju, and Japanese whiskey. I recommend visiting once.
Good food the wait was a bit long but that's to be expected. The only gripe that I had was the price was a bit steep but service and quality was amazing.
The meat quality is good, but alot of them do not seem to be marinated so I actually preferred the cooked dishes that came with our combo meal for 6. The hot stone rice was probably my favourite. Overall pretty good especially if you are going with some friends. The ventilation system is really good and it doesn't leave you smelling like grilled meat compared to other Asian do-it-yourself BBQ places in the city.
Front of house service is a bit hit and miss. Came in on a Friday and they were sadly fully booked, asked to reserve a table for Saturday (so we wouldn't get turned away again) and was able to reserve it quite easily. Came back on Saturday a bit earlier than our reservation time (about 5 minutes early) and they seemed quite flustered and unprepared. Front receptionist disappeared for a while and we had no idea what was going on, eventually she came back, turns out they needed to set up the table, which we didn't mind waiting for but some notice would have been nice.
Menu itself is pretty straight forward, and our waitress was more than willing to explain the process and give some recommendations. We opted for a dinner set for 2. The grill food is the main selling point here, we really loved the different cuts of meat, although maybe one or two more slices of each meat would have been perfect. The salad was also surprisingly delicious, I really wish they had that as a refillable salad! Tried the garlic noodles, it was okay but not a favourite. Our waitress was great and checked back often, when she was busy another waitress came in to clear our plates in her place.
P. S. If you plan on coming for dinner make sure to make reservations! Don't make the same mistake we did:) Luckily Misoya is just down the street, which is what we did on Friday evening when Gyu Kaku was fully booked.
Pretty good, but can be very salty or strongly marinated/seasoned. Meat grills very fast so just grill what you want to eat one or two at a time. Would visit again/10
Our 1st visit tonight.great food & service.but I wish this place was a bit bigger and provide some parking space for customers.will definitely visit there in the near future.
Made a reservation for 5 people more than a week before. Got a small table, asked to get a bigger one. Had to wait extra 15 minutes to be seated and when we finally did, they told us we have 1.5 hours to eat and leave since someone reserved the table. We just left disappointed. Horrible service.
Pros: -Decor. -Set Meals (for 2,3, or more people). Includes appetizer, a main dish (eg. Bibimbap), various cuts of meats, and a dessert. -Flavour/Quality. Very fresh and clean!
Cons: -Price/Portion may be a concern if you prefer a high quantity of items. -Would be nice if the restaurant refilled salad at no cost. Especially when you're getting alot of meat. -More unique sauces should be implemented.
We went there for the first time today. Staff was welcoming as soon as we entered which I think is a standard in Japanese restaurants. It was also our first time going to a Japanese bbq. We ended up ordering one of their combos which was the meat lovers one for $80 which included appetizers, various meats with different marinades and cuts, and dessert. Overall the food was good. The miso soup was a little saltier than I'm used to and the chicken karaage was probably the best part of the meal. We also got a little confused about the dessert because the combo was meant for 2 or more people but the ice cream came in one bowl so we had to pass it back and forth across the table which felt a little silly lol. It took us a while to adjust with their grill as we're used to being able to control the heat temp (like in Korean bbq restaurants) while theirs just constantly stays high? (Not sure if we were suppose to ask to get it lowered down at any point but server never suggested nor adjusted it so just assumed it was suppose to remain that high at all times?) The server was pretty helpful and informative if you're experiencing the place for the first time and their service is pretty prompt. Overall, I would still recommend this place but would probably rather order from their a la carte menu instead.
We had an amazing time here and ordered a meal for 3. The food was awesome. It was so enjoyable to prepare our own meats. And our server Nicole was so attentive, witty and helpful. The place was packed at 1030 with a lineup which gives you a clue of how good this place is.
Finally tried the gyu kaku. Always wanna to give it a try from Hong Kong but didn't get the chance. Well the meat quality is super fresh and juicy. The server is super awesome attentive and keep changing our grill for us. The portion is a bit small. We ordered the shotgun (feed 6) but we end up ordering two side premium beef dishes and one more fried dumpling. Don't expect to get full full but it was a good experience for sure.
The food and atmosphere was amazing! Very clean place and the general manager was very friendly. The service wasn’t the best, I asked for the Geisha cocktail and it took over 10 minutes to bring. We ordered the Premium Meat Lovers BBQ Course and only got the Meat Lovers course. I ordered a Tokyo Iced Tea for my second drink and she brought me a Tokyo Sunset. Then we asked for waters and she never brought them and we asked again 10 minutes later for them. Just felt like our waitresses was more focused on the table behind us. Other than the service everything else was great!
D. E. L. I. C. I. O. U. S - super friendly staff followed by such delicious food. Having been to Gyu-Kaku in several parts of the world, this one holds up the brand's torch. The only thing I'd have a not-stellar remark on is the Pesto Chicken, while tasty, it felt out of place for the rest of the dishes and their pallets, but not enough to taint anything.
Definitely one of, if not, THE best table BBQ places in Edmonton. Intended to take more photos but we were too excited! Next time.
