Hanjan South

A real dining experience! After being referred by a friend, my partner and I decided to visit this evening. We showed up without reservations, and was able to get the last spot as it was booked solid for the dinner rush. The servers were friendly, engaged in sharing more about their menu, and were attentive throughout the meal. We didn’t have just one server, all the staff members came by to check in, quickly remove dishes, ask about dessert and bring us the bill. We were impressed on how quickly the food came out and how flavourful it was. We had the vegetable Japchae and Gochujaug samkyup-sal. Both dishes came out piping hot and were delicious. Topped the meal up with a Mango Bingsu, which is a must. Definitely worth the drive and we will happily return!

Great food and very good environment. The service was fast and great just need to remember to press the button so you're not waiting forever. Everything we had was very good and delicious and I would love to have the corn cheese again!

Ordered take out, first time. Ever since moving from Toronto. This has got to be my first time experiencing good Korean food. Thank you for the delicious food. Will def order again soon.

Make sure you order the cheese corn it’s amazing! I also had the bibimbap which was good and for dessert don’t sleep on the honey butter bread.

Good food. Went for lunch and had their set lunch. More than enough for 2! Seafood pancake was one of the best I've had. Just the right crunch outside and chewiness inside. I recommend!
April 2022 update. Food still good. Menu slight change and price increase. Excellent wait staff

I come here once a week and order the Dak Galbi (chicken thigh meat, cabbage and thick rice noodle caramelized in a spicy sauce). Feels like being back in Korea. Love this place. Open late too. Can get very busy at dinner time.

The restaurant is gorgeous! You can dine in private rooms or in the main rooms! The food is the best Korean I've had. The washrooms are not good though, they need someone to check them. They keep the door open which is not good for privacy and there are only 2 stalls. Also I was there in the late afternoon and there was no paper towels, no soap, no toilet paper.

Came here yesterday, was very happy with the service. Our server looked kind of scary from afar with his tattoos, but he was actually really friendly and smiled through his mask. Would come again!

Food was pretty good. Place was clean. Wait times on food were pretty ridiculous. Food didn't all come out at the same time. 1 person got their food way before anyone else and the last people got theirs as the first person was finishing.

Honey butter bread is amazing, would recommend.

We went today at your restaurant and the staff told us to wait in the vacant seat but we waited so long and they haven’t to attend us for ringing the bell 5 times. Only to see that 2 families (including us) are in the restaurant. Probably, they are busy with someone’s order but not attend their guest for 30minutes is not acceptable. So, we left the restaurant and one of staff told us if we leaving, then we said yes. He even said “sounds good” for us leaving the restaurant and not trying to win us back. Very poor service overall.

Had a variety of good side dishes (anju/안주) that's perfect for any korean drinks. Karaoke is available as well.

I went to this restaurant after so many people suggested this place on Reddit for trying Korean food first time. I loved the ambience and the service, don’t remember his name exactly but I think it was Isiah who served me. It was for my bday and I loved everything about this experience

Great atmosphere. Very aesthetic decor. I love that they have a button to call for service at the tables - they’re very quick to respond. Quality food for the prices. Best bulgogi fries ever - I will say it can be inconsistent at times with regard to quantity of ingredients used. There is some inconsistency with the flavour of the kimchi fried rice/glass noodles as well. Fried chicken and tteokbokki is always super yummy!

Food was good service was good. Open tables in the center if you like attention and booths on the side for privacy.

We came here as a large group for a birthday dinner, although the food was really great the service was really lacking and both drinks and food took a really long time to get to the table.

Updated 2021: I ordered japchae and bulgogi for pick up and was disappointed. The flavor was ok but there was barely any meat! It was basically vegatarian japchae.

This restaurant has a nice, open set up. Food was delicious and came fast. I highly recommend it.

Hi, This was my very first time trying Hanjan South location on Sunday, I have to admit the food was delicious. I would go back for the food, but the service wasn't par. The restaurant wasn't busy with maybe 8 tables. Service was extremely slow, we had to hit the button twice on all occasions. We paid our bill and we order the dessert at the beginning of our meal and we had to asked a few times when the dessert will be out. We had to ask for more water.: (

Amazing Korean food and fair prices. Their fried chicken is absolutely the best in the city, would recommend coming here anytime!

Came here few months ago and the food was good, but I felt like I was over charged for the food; I thought probably just a simple mistake, but I'm not one to bring up these issues and just paid for it anyways. Finally found some time to come back and enjoy their food again. This time I ordered the ddook baeki bulgolgi, galbi short ribs for 1 and a pop. The lights went out this time around, so they offered me 10% off the meal for the troubles, which was nice of them. However, when I went to pay my bill, even with the 10% off, the total rang up to $56 somehow. I was really shocked they would pull this twice on me lol. The total should've been around $35 with the discount, yet somehow they charged me 60% over that! I hate to be that guy, so I just ended giving my server $65 and left. I definetely won't be comming back.

Went on a date over there recently, and I must say the atmosphere there is quite nice. They have a vary to of Korean meals as well as some general food as well. My favourite thing about Hanjan is there dessert collection, which it’s amazing if I may add. My goal is try every combination they have. It’s also not to loud where you can’t hear yourself or the person there talk nor is it to quite for other people to hear your conversation. Would 100% recommend you check out this location with friends or on a date:)

Food that we ordered was great and was reasonable price to pay. However, it was hard to get someone to help you out if you ask for something. We ordered through text due to COVID.

It was our first time ordering, young lady at the entrance was more than helpful with recommending the most popular grill dishes! Everything was so delicious and grilled properly! Thank you!

We ordered takeout from this place. We paid $50.00 for Teriyaki Chicken and the large portion Jaykum Bokum. The food was not good and the portions were really small. I thought getting the large portion would leave some leftovers for lunch the next day instead when I finish I was still hungry. The Teriyaki Chicken had very little chicken and was very greasy. We will never go back here. We enjoy Hanjan restaurant chain but from now we'll take our business to the Hanjan off Whyte.

I was craving glass noodles, and they did not disappoint! I also highly recommend the fried chicken! Can't wait to try more of the menu

It was really a pleasure to go here. The staff member who served our take out acted very professional, and the food was absolutely delicious! Great Korean restaurant. I hope COVID ends soon so that my family and I can also enjoy the atmosphere, as it looked amazing as well.

Great food, I haven’t tried too many dishes here but their fried chicken is always 10/10. The aesthetic is really pretty too, a nice atmosphere for when covid restrictions cool down.

Hanjan is an amazing Korean restaurant whose owner (Sam) and his family work very hard to keep customers happy with their excellent choice of selection of food, their friendly customer service and their dedication to improving the store. During the beginning of the pandemic, they even offered discounts to health care workers! It's also closed now, but pre-pandemic, they were able to accommodate a lot of people (even when making last minute reservations) and even had a room for karaoke for a group of friends on the upper level! The food is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend the fried chicken as well as the bulgogi fries, as they are the reason I keep coming back! Check it out, you won't regret it! Trust me!

Best grilled pork belly I've ever had, better than any Toronto places we normally go. Nice inside, open and calm, didn't expect it but this place is great. Pork bone soup extremely spicy, little hard to finish only because of that

I've been to Hanjan twice and each visit was pleasant. My most recent visit was with my coworkers and we had a great time.

We ordered a variety of appetizers to share and our own dishes as well. Everything was flavourful. The kalbi (BBQ short ribs) were delicious and I liked how tender the meat was. That was probably my favourite dish. I also enjoyed the cheese corn! An interesting combination of flavours and it worked well.

Throughout the night, the servers were very polite and did a fantastic job at clearing the table when dishes were finished.

For dessert, we ordered the brick toast, mango bingsu, and affogato. I had a few bites of each and you can't go wrong with any of the dessert! The brick toast was soft and sweet. The mango on the bingsu was fresh and the ice cream on top added a nice contrast to the tangy mango pieces. The affogato was creamy and smooth. I could tell that they used quality coffee beans.

I had a great dinner and a blast in the karaoke room with my work team! Really happy with my most recent visit. I wish Hanjan was closer to the north, but since their operating hours are generous, I won't mind driving down for late night dinner.

Everything about this place is great. I had the best friend chicken of my life. Highly recommend it.

Seems like a nice place however, would not recommend for groups interested in karaoke. Staff are not well organized, did not keep track of tabs and the Karaoke room got very hot.

I think this is the best Korean food in the city. The quality of the kitchen is superb, and you'll love the coziness and openness of their atmosphere.

Bang for the buck korean food! Very chill atmosphere, great for late night eats and hang outs. Gonna try karaoke next time!

I'd give it a 4.5 great food weird experience for a first timer when the service bell isn't explained to you.

The place is run by inexperience young bloods in food service. I give them 2 star for effort. The day we tried this place we asked for a booth but the server said there was nothing available and the ones vacant are already reserved. 5 minutes later some drop-ins came in and they gave the vacant booths away. There were 7 servers running around like headless chickens and looked panic while trying to figure out how to place the tables together for what seems like a big group coming in. The section was probably set by all 7 servers at different times. My group was laughing the whole time. Food was okay. Setting is one of the good ones in south side.

BETTER THAN FAMOUS RESTAURANTS IN KOREA!

This is indescribably the best Korean food I have ever tasted. I have been to Korea many times, is a Korean food lover, and constantly explore new Korean restaurants, yet surprised myself to SETTLE MY BEST HERE (not even Korea but in Edmonton, Canada!). What truly distinguishes Hanjan from the rest are their ingredients.they are super fresh and they are not just within the veggies but with everything else as well. From the premium meat quality (that they don’t even stress in the menu!) all the way to the homemade sauce, even the good quality can be found from their dessert! They don’t even advertise any of this, but tasting it, it’s all there. But of course, the culinary skill is also important and just from tasting all the dishes, we could tell it is a greatly skilled and authentic chef from Korea. Thank you for creating this restaurant. Until I find a better restaurant (will probably take years until then), Hanjan will forever be my heart’s #1 Korean restaurant.

Good atmosphere to hang out and catch up. Food was mediocre. Unfortunately, service was poor. We were a larger party (of 10). Server clearly failed to take note which seat ordered what food. None of the servers bringing out the food knew where each dish was going so they resorted to walking around the table calling out whatever dish in their hands. Server also did not ask whether the bill would be together or separate so when it came time to pay, each couple/ individual had to go up to the bar and pick out what they had ordered. Water was never topped off. Dishes were never cleared. Considering there was a mandatory gratuity for larger parties (which is fair), you'd expect them to meet at least some standard for service.

The atomosphere is modern and cool. With Kpop blasting through the speakers. I especially love when we get to sit in the cozy, private room. The call button system is very handy as well.

The banchan is a great spread and I love their kimchi and pickled daikon. For entrees, my go to is the samgyeopsal, japchae, and KFC- never disappoints. The honey butter bread is warm, gooey, and perfectly sweet and worth the $13.

Theres a cute server we see from time to time and I just found out it is the owner! Seeing him from time to time makes our visits even better!

This place is awesome! Really delicious Korean food at reasonable prices. Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful. The service was also great, prompt and friendly. We ordered bossam, pajeon and mango bingsu for dessert. The bossam and pajeon were great, along with the complimentary banchan. The only minor complaint that I had was that the bingsu was more icy than creamy and the mango was a little underripe. However, it was still lightly and fluffy and an enjoyable dessert. Definitely give this place a try!

All the food was delicious! The chicken is a must. It’s best to come with a big group, so you can try everything on the menu. I didn’t have a single dish I didn’t like.

We went for our anniversary. Enjoyed our dinner. Their fired chicken is best in south Edmonton. The cinammon bun is delicious and good size for two people.

Great atmosphere. Went for a work lunch. Food was good if you're a fan of Korean food. Unfortunately that's not my favorite. Service was a bit slow. There were 17 of us and some were already finished their lunch by the time some were just getting theirs and we all ordered at the same time.

Came here today and left with food poisoning. The bulgogi was dripping in oil and left me feeling very sick today my brother had Japchae noodles and he also got food poisoning. Never again.

I must agree with Patrick that the fried chicken was really good. After the chicken the pork belly was out next favourite food choice. The cheese buldak was our least favourite but it was still nice.

There was seven then eight of us near the end of the meal and we ordered a bunched of dishes and so I cannot comment on the quantity since we had so many plates we were all full before dessert. However we did have dessert! I ordered the Mango Bingsu while two others ordered the Strawberry Bingsu. Two others split the Honey Butter Bread. My number two son actually had a half order of pork belly for a dessert. Do not ask why but I will tell you anyway. He just really liked liked the pork belly.

As for the service, it was excellent. When we were ready to order the meal there is a button on the table to buzz the server or for anytime you wanted a drink or anything. If you have not been here before then you might not be aware of the button or even notice the location.

Milkis was a very nice drink for the end of the meal. It helped the palate before eating the dessert.

Very delicious! I like the table buzzers, and pretty much every dish we had was solid. Beers are a great price. Great place for sharing dishes.

Paid $60 on skip the dishes and got these small portions, around two-three servings each dish. Each dish was $13-$22? Insane. One of the dishes was supposed to have noodles, but it didn’t. Also ordered rice and it didn’t come with it.
