Holiday Inn Express & Suites Drayton Valley, an IHG Hotel

***EDIT: the staff are amazing, so I went a full star up. Breakfast is horrible but they had fresh cookies (thank you Susan you’re amazing!) and soup, so that pushed it to 4.5/5 rounded up to 5. *** 18 Nov 23

The rooms were good. The breakfast was your basic continental breakfast, I was better off bringing a skillet and cooking my own breakfast in the room.

Some staff seem clueless as they woke me up several times for stupid things, like asking when I’m checking out or trying to come in my room after I explained to them I was on night shift. The hotel wasn’t even full but you could tell they were anxious to get us out of there. And the room wasn’t cleaned once in 10 days of staying there.

Most of the staff seem really friendly, except the really small one, she was not outgoing or friendly at all. And when I grabbed a few ketchup packages and a pepper pack from the breakfast room to put on my breakfast in my room she stared at my hand, and then at me suspiciously like I was stealing.

Did not feel too welcome at this hotel. But the beds, pillows and the fact the tv channels actually work brings this hotel up to a 4 star rating, otherwise it would have been 2.

Bunch of breakfast items out stock such as orange and apple juice.water was empty in breakfast area.asked for empty container to be swapped and was told they didn't have any. I left a 250ml of milk on the counter on Thursday and it was still there Tuesday morning. My room smelled like somebody spilled a bottle of cheap cologn on the carpet but the hotel was sold out so I had to stay in that room for my first night.

The only thing this place has going for it is the location. We stayed there for 1 night. Our first ride on the elevator smelled like burning rubber and then the door opened extremely slow.like it took a solid 3 minutes so we thought we were stuck in the elevator. We took the stairs the rest of the time. (While laying in bed later, I looked up reviews for this hotel and have noticed it is a trend. People getting stuck or having issues fairly often. The manager replied to my original review stating that they’ve had someone look at the elevator since. I do hope this is true for other patrons but I would like to say there was no signage indicating a faulty elevator at all.)
We came downstairs for snacks and there was a ‘be back in 5 min’ sign on the desk. We went back upstairs for 15-20 minutes and came back down and the sign was still there. We could hear someone behind the desk so we rang the bell like 10 times before someone finally came to the front. Bad service.
THEN we realized (at 3am when I was soaking in sweat) that the temperature control unit in our room was broken and we were not able to adjust. As my boyfriend was still sleeping, we didn’t ask for a room change at that time.
I would also like to add that the room wasn’t that clean either but not bad enough that we felt we had to leave.
When mentioned to the front desk all they said was “so you didn’t really have a good stay then? ” We said not really and they said “we’ll get someone to look at it. ” I explained that it was a shame that they’re one of the most expensive places in town but still nothing was made to rectify the situation. If I’m paying close to $200 for 1 night, I expect these things to be working. Very disappointed and will not be staying at this location again.

It was OK, just expect more from Holiday Inns. If you're going to charge 200$/night, I expect rooms with no stains on the carpet and bathtub and that doesn't have an "interesting odor". Slept great and the beds were fine, so that's all that really matters.

The staff there are absolutely amazing, always smiling, and are super friendly. I've practically lived here for the past year and have no complaints yet. The rooms are always nice and clean when I arrive, and cleaned again when I come back from work. The only thing I can say here is maybe change the sheets after a week, haha.
The location is good, and Drayton Valley is small, so things aren't too far from each other. The manager there is amazing, I think Kala is her name. Very professional, easy to talk to, and is helpful in every aspect of making my stay more comfortable. 10/10 if I could.

Elevator is broken and we were not told prior to booking. I am on the top floor and wasn’t given any ability to change rooms.

Looks like the elevator hasn’t been working for months. I don’t think the owner is prioritizing the repair.

Beds were comfortable. Plenty of pillows of different densities to create your own perfect preference. Clean. Breakfast was exceptional (oatmeal, pancakes, hash browns, sausage links and patties, eggs with cheese or scrambled, cinnamon buns, toast of several varieties, juice, coffee, muffins, fresh apples and oranges), pet friendly, excellent parking.

I don't expect a ton from HIE hotels, but this was the worst one I've stayed at by far. The elevator does not work well, the "fitness center" equipment doesn't work, the breakfast was either burnt or they were out. The whole hotel had a wore out, dingy look to it. The room was decent, and the shower had good water pressure though. I won't stay here again if I can help it.

My son and I got trapped in the elevator, when we first arrived the elevator door was sticking and front desk knew about it. My son and I got trapped in the elevator when the door didn't open, luckily it opened enough to get my fingers in and pry it open. If my wife, son or daughter had been in there no way they would have gotten it open. VERY BIG SAFETY CONCERN NOT HAPPY.

Nice place for a warm stop on a cold night. Friendly staff, comfortable fold and excellent WiFi. Solid HIEX franchise. Would stay here again but don’t think I’ll make back to Drayton Valley anytime soon…

It was either too hot or too cold. No happy medium.
Room was very clean, staff was friendly.
