UPDATE (3 WEEKS LATER) : To Homexx's credit, they contacted me shortly after reading my review to try to patch things up by assigning us to another sales rep, Penny, who was very pleasant, understanding, and overall just seemed eager to help. We ultimately decided it may not be the best time for us to build given how crazy the market is right now, so I can't speak to Homexx's quality, but good to know that they will sincerely try to resolve conflicts.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

We were referred to Homexx. At first, we were excited for them to build our dream home! Esther, their sales rep in Secord, made sure this would never happen.

After a couple phone/email exchanges, she invited us to her showhome and also said she would contact a past client to ask if we could tour their home. We showed up with our realtor and her entire approach to us changed. She said she wouldn't let us visit the client's home because it would be disrespectful to them; she wasn't even sure if we were serious (why tell us you would contact them, then?).

In every subsequent conversation, she took every opportunity to blame us for not telling her we had a realtor, that the realtor didn't follow proper procedures, and invalidate our approach to homebuilding. Example: We're very visual people and like to physically experience a home model before we decide to purchase. She then told us that 80% of her clients buy without being in the model that they build. So I guess us being in the 20% makes us wrong or weird or something.

I was particularly confused and uncomfortable when, unprompted, she started complaining about a volatile encounter she had with a potential client, ending with a very emphatic "I'm not racist". I'm sure this is something she tells everyone, and not just because I'm a visible minority.

After a couple tense and stressful weeks of us trying to include our realtor and Esther dismissing any mention of him, I contacted Homexx to get some clarity. Smitty was very professional and accommodating. She explained to us that the proper procedure would've been that the realtor show up at the showhome before us (he did, so did Esther block his involvement?). I eventually shared some details with Smitty that this hasn't been a good start to the homebuilding process. She was apologetic and admitted that Esther is very blunt. She said she would talk to Esther to see if the process could be restarted. We felt relieved a bit after that. Eventually, we dropped the realtor since it was such a point of contention. Esther was a bit friendlier afterwards.

At this point, it all made sense: all the stories she told us, the hostility towards our realtor, the constant invalidation. Esther is someone who doesn't care about a customer unless she can control them.

Then, I guess Esther decided she didn't want to deal with us anymore and needed to get rid of us. We asked her a question one evening and she decided to mention that she was going to charge an extra $10,000 on our home and there was no way we could avoid it. We told her this was unexpected and said, if she can waive that, we will for sure build with Homexx. She refused, told us it wasn't unexpected (maybe for her, it wasn't), that she only found out a day ago (and didn't tell us), and wished us best of luck on our search. Definitely was eager to see us go.

Since then, we've met another family who said Esther treated them the exact same way, right down to the surprise price bump. Although, apparently, she told them that "I can do whatever I want. " I mean, I think that's her in a nutshell, right there.

TL;DR: Controlling sales rep in Secord believes "I can do whatever I want", also says "I'm not racist" for some reason.

Honestly, this is the poorest quality built home I've ever lived in. The finishings are an abysmal mess. None of the electrical is up to code. All the main floor laminate is coming apart. Just a mess really and its fairly obvious they are buying positive reviews.

Make sure you get your initial quote in writing before you put the $2,500 deposit down on custom plans. Pricing increased from $50k to $70k from what we were told originally.

We were in the market for buying a new home and we’re so glad we ended up going with Homexx. We love our new home. We were able to easily customize our home to fit what we wanted and needed with ease.
Their team was always professional and friendly and easy to communicate with. They always got back to us quickly if we had any questions or concerns.
Ester was another reason we had such a good buying experience. She was great help every step of the way. She provided us with lots of knowledge and advice. She was respectful and took time to know us as a family. Although we moved in for 4 months ago, she continues to follow up with us and still answer any questions we may have.
Overall, our experience was exceptional and we’d recommend you choose them for your next home!

Homexx was a great company to work with in building our new home. It was the first time we built a home and Esther, our Homexx rep walked us through each step of the way. We were in the Secord area looking at other show homes and stumbled across a beautiful Homexx home for sale, so we asked our realtor if we could see it. Unfortunately that home was already sold, however, the sales representative, Esther, was willing to show us another similar home in the area that was close to being ready for possession. We were blown away with the quality and craftsmanship of this home and instantly fell in love with the house. After looking at close to 15 homes all over Edmonton, we decided that none of the other homes even came close in terms of value for money and quality.

Esther has been very straight forward with us, setting expectations from the beginning - and was a pleasure to work with throughout our entire home buying process. Thank you so much Esther! We look forward to moving into our new home soon!

Stay away from this builder. Very rude lady at Secord show home. Do not stay on words. Keep changing their words. Not professional at all.
After all, most disturbing thing is, she don't have manners to talk. Very rude. She won't treat you well.
If you want to experience good customer service. Stay away from this lady. Don't get your day ruined.

Homexx offers a wide variety of floor plans that you can customize to your needs and wants. With the help from Esther, I was able to do just that! I cannot wait to pick my colors and finishes and move into my forever home! Thank you for making my dream a reality!

I was in the market looking to get out of the big city and stumbled across Homexx in my travels. My first interaction with Penny at Homexx was honestly refreshing compared to some of the other showhomes I had been in. Right from the start she was welcoming, willing to answer any questions and if she didn't have the information available, readily researched it and provided it to me. Even when my purchase process hit a bit of snag, she was there to provide help when it was needed and made the overall process a success. After moving in, the follow-up was great as well! I've built several houses and this experience by far was the least stressful! I would highly recommend Penny and Homexx if you're looking for your next home!

We purchased our "First Home" from Homexx last January. The house is very nice and great quality. Penny our salesperson was extremely helpful, open, transparent, and reliable through the whole process, she really cared about us. She never made us feel uncomfortable and helped us every step of the way. We are so happy with our NEW HÖME. I would recommend going through these guys to purchase your home and ask for penny

We have purchased our house August 10 2020 a show home. Beautifully built house only concerns were the rear door swings open and the hinges are outside slightly concerning. First time I have ever seen a threshold in a house but I was told that is how they do it. They are quite busy it would seem as it take the reception lady quite Some time to respond but she always does and with professional answers. Overall great people would deal with them again on my next purchase.

I recommend buying one of their Quick Possession or Show Homes. Homexx do use good material and have better designs. And more windows in the basements to boot.

But the experience after possession if you have an issue that needs to be resolved hasn't been the best. Far from it.

So that is why I say, if you want a new home than yes go with an existing Quick Possession home from Homexx, they have great designs and use good material.
Just make sure everything is done including the grass before placing an offer.

Had our 1 year inspection done, we had a drywall crack in our living room wall due to structural or shifting damage (not our fault) they had a contractor come out to mud and sand the area but wouldn't paint it after.they said they are not responsible to paint because " it's not a defect " couldn't believe they wouldn't warrant the paint job after.unbelievable and lazy if u ask me

When we were looking to build, we absolutely fell in love with Homexx homme design. We will never forget the first day we walked into the model home and were blown away by it. They staff were absolutely the nicest people we have ever met and very knowledgeable when it came to building and customizing our new home. They took the time to explain everything and make sure we were extremely satisfied prior to closing on the home. Throughout our build, there were issues that arose; however, a simple phone call and the issues were resolved immediately and to our liking. It is without hesitation that I would recommend Homexx to anyone building their “dream home”. We are extremely satisfied with our new home and think you will be also if you choose Homexx as your builder!

Updated July 29 2019, years after buying this home we had an issue in the basement. A crack in the foundation was allowing water to enter our home. Homexx sent out the owner himself to come take a look at the house, and coordinated with the contractor used to come fix the issue and ensure water would no longer enter our home. This is all past our warranty time with them, any other builder could of said sorry it is your issue now, but homexx really surprised me. I am very happy with the service.

This is not a sales pitch, or us simply writing kind words in the form of a referral. This is me and

my wife simply telling a story of how we purchased our home and why. We were expecting our first

child, living in a basement with two big dogs and on the hunt for a home for our growing family. We had

just made a verbal agreement with a salesman from another company for a lot in a different

development, that salesman went on vacation and our lot was sold to someone else. This made us

decide to buy a previously owned home instead of having one built; we simply went into the Homexx

show home to get interior design ideas. Immediately we noticed the difference in Danny’s approach, he

simply introduced himself let us walk around and come ask him questions when we were done. The

house was not what we initially liked, the lots were not what we were looking for, and so our initial

interest was very low. Danny sat with us and it never felt like he was selling us, he simply explained how

we could work together and customize our home to fit our description of “a perfect home”. Not only is

Danny extremely knowledgeable and helpful, he goes above and beyond any imaginable expectation

one could have. He put up with tears, our stress, our worries (like I said a very stressful time to be

building a home), and he really guided us from the moment we stepped foot into the show home until

the moment we received the key and continues to the day to assist us.

I never thought I could form a bond with a stranger the way I have with Danny, he has mastered

not just the salesman aspect of his job, but the overall being a great person aspect that not many people

have. We were so fortunate to have had Danny guide us in the right direction, his work ethic reflects

who he is, and his dedication and commitment is something that will never be forgotten. He met us

when my wife was pregnant and has watched our daughter grow and learn to walk in his show home!

We were probably the most annoying clients, Danny showed up on my phone bill as one of my most

contacted people… above my wife! But he always made us feel welcome to drop by, or call, or email.

Regardless how many clients he had, or if he had prior commitments he always made us feel like we

were a priority. Like I said this is not a sales pitch, if you are fortunate enough to choose Danny Perreault

you will not regret it, and he will raise the standards for service in your life I guarantee that! Would we

buy from Homexx again in the future? With out hesitation!

Buying our first home through homexx was a really good experience, the house is very nice, and great quality. The service we have gotten has been great. I would recommend going through these guys to purchase your home and ask for penny as she is wonderful and very helpful!

We bought a new home from Homexx and have been living in here for the past month and a half.
The sales people are friendly and helpful and were always responsive to our questions. There's minor things that needed to be fixed in the house (as all new builds), and they came to fix it up in a reasonable amount of time. We're really happy with our home:)

We bought a house with Homexx about 4 years ago and never thought to review them prior to this.

Worst builders in Spruce Grove. They didn't fulfill many requests in the house. They let their site super pick a fight with me. Had their lady in charge of home warranty ignore our repairs for a year. The same lady also picked a fight with me on signing date. They tried to overcharge for simple changes like moving the attic access. A price that was way more than the contractor would have received.

As a farmer, I was less than pleased with the state of my home on purchase. There were many deficiencies that we were promised would be repaired but never were.

The fact that we had to go over their head to get our warranty is utterly unacceptable.

Avoid at all cost or find out the hard way

I am a REALTOR at Royal LePage, I have been selling houses for over 11 years in Edmonton and area. I can honestly say you will not find a builder who delivers a higher level of upgrades or higher quality of workmanship for the price. Not even close. These are Lexus homes for the cost of Toyota's.

My family and I moved in to our new Homexx home in February. We are so happy and proud to be living in such a beautifully built home. I would highly recommend Homexx for your first home.

This was the first home I have ever built and Homexx has made it such a good experience. Right from the start dealing with Danny and Tamara in the planning stages, right through the building stages with Max, the whole process was dream. With the show homes and the dekor showroom available to see what products were available, it really made it easy to envision what our house would look like. Every detail, every question that I had was answered and delt with in such a way that really made me feel like I mattered in the whole process. It has been a year since we moved in and the very few issues that I needed to have fixed were fixed promptly thanks to the help of Don in the service department. I would highly recommended Homexx for anyone looking to build a home. Thank you.

Where do I begin? I first gave Homexx 1 star 2yrs ago but now that I am finishing my basement and continuing to run into problems, I am ready to say why.

Problems began when we took possession of our home as the water line to the fridge leaked causing $10,000 of damage to the home. The damage was not repaired for months because an employee (who I understand doesn't work at Homexx anymore) decided not to pay the disaster crew that she hired. This resulted in a lien briefly being put on our home. After months of emails and calls to complain the owner apologized, though he offered no compensation for all the stress this situation caused.

Later, we decided to install a heater in our rear detached garage, which required us to run a gas line from the house. This is when we found out that there was no permit for the garage Homexx built. When I went down to the office, the first reaction of the owner was to blame the city of Spruce Grove, saying they probably lost the paperwork. When they realised they had never submitted a permit to the city, they were unapologetic. It was during this encounter that the conversation escalated to screaming.

Yes, the owner of the company began to scream at me, because in my frustration at being treated so poorly, I was rude to him.

And now? Now I'm finishing my basement and running into a multitude of problems. This includes having to rip up the plumbing for our shower because it was installed so close to our sump pump that we cannot build the wall to separate the bathroom from the mechanical room. Oh and it MUST be a shower because they didn't leave enough room for a tub.

In short, Homexx provided the worst home building experience I could have imagined. Never again.

When we first started looking for a house, we didn’t know what builder we were going to go to. We didn’t know we would end up choosing a custom builder, but I am 100% glad we chose Homexx.
The process was so easy, from picking our lot, to picking the floor plans and picking out where we wanted things to be. My husband is a garage man, and we wanted to make sure that he was getting what he wanted as this was our dream home.
The customization that we had to do was amazing. There was so much that we didn’t know that we would need to pick out, every little detail was taken into consideration and our input was required each step of the way. Tamara at the Dekor center is amazing, she helped us find the colors we wanted and which tiles, carpet, flooring, grout (yes, we needed to choose that color too), to counter tops to make sure that everything looked cohesive and matched well together. Everything was taken care of. There was such a variety of types of materials we could choose, it just wasn’t your standard 4 colors. The paint wheel was endless, everything was. It was such an easy experience and she made it that much more enjoyable.
Danny, our sales guy. I cannot say enough good things about him. He answered our calls and texts so promptly, and was always willing to go the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied. To getting us quotes on things we wanted to customize to giving us suggestions to make our dream that much more of a reality. It was so easy. He went above and beyond for us, and we are truly so grateful. He brought the ideas we had
and put them into motion. And made sure we were okay with the decisions that were being made to continue building.
From start to finish I can say this was the best decision we have made. Everyone was so helpful and knowledgeable. It was such a pleasant experience, and the dedicated team we had made purchasing, building, designing our dream home just wonderful. We both highly recommend Homexx, Danny and Tamara, to everyone looking to make their dream home a reality.
