The deluxe ramen and kimchi Takoyaki were excellent.
We really enjoyed the vibe in this restaurant.

This restaurant provided an exceptional experience. Our server, Annie, was able to articulate the menu with clarity. Her service was prompt and professional.

The food was outstanding, the chefs clearly know what they're doing. Not only did it look absolutely gorgeous, it tasted just as good. This is by far the best Japanese restaurant in Calgary.

I ordered takeaway noodles and told sushi that when I bought one and sent one for free, I only called to verify that I wanted this and that. He was very irresponsible. Don't order takeaway at his house.

Very decent sushi, menu has a lot of choice, very friendly staff, decorated with all kinds of interest things. Mid range price.

Was an alright experience at Honjin Izakaya. There were many options to choose from, however, they had many dishes that they didn't have available which was very disappointing! The atmosphere was nice, with a more modern look with an open kitchen, and with Tokyo Street food on the first level with a more traditional street vendor feel. The yakitori was a little smaller than what I'm used to from other restaurants. The abalone and aburi sushi were yummy. Service could've been better, as the waitress seemed to have forgotten about us; we were waiting a long time for our last two dishes to arrive, and she finally came up to us asking if we wanted anything else as if for the bill, not realizing we were still expecting something to come.
Overall, was an alright experience. Would've been better if all options on the menu was available and with more attentive staff.

I love sea urchin! King of Chirashi is very tasty with couple of fresh seafood. The roes are very fresh and juicy. We also tried the Honjin Special Sushi, the combination is just amazingly rich in flavors. Even the rice is a bit different from others. Please try it! Abalone is also good, creamy and delicious. As for the service, maybe there were some people waiting for tables or maybe waitress would like to express their enthusiasm too much, we were kept asking for how good the food was, which like push us to go.

Went with a group of 7 on a Saturday night. Food was good, we ordered a couple yakitori items (Momo, Shishito Peppers, Okra, Hatsu), some appetizers (Shishamo Karaage, Jumbo Chicken Karaage), some sushi rolls (Unagi, Bluefin Red Tuna, Crispy Spicy BC Salmon), and the Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi Bowl, which all tasted great. Dine in service was great, the servers were really kind and friendly, as well as fast for clearing empty plates and drink refills.

Only downside was the lack of a hostess when we entered the restaurant. We had called and placed a reservation prior to arriving, but upon arrival no one was available to check us or the other guests in even after ringing the bell. One of our party members tried calling their number again, which then prompted one of the servers to come by the front table and greet/seat us and the other guests waiting.

All in all, good dining experience, but would be a lot better had there been a hostess to greet the guests and get us all sorted.

Solid food. Always good a convenient place for a late night snack. Love the atmosphere.

Steak in the ramen is great.

We came in Saturday night with a reservation and we got in right away, i do suggest doing that if you are thinking of going during peak times and be aware that parking does get difficult.
The staff were really friendly on the get go- A special shout out to our server Chiho, who was so kind and set the bar so high for other servers and she made some great recommendations on her fave stuff on the menu to try for next time!

The food and drinks were amazing! Our fave had to have been the gizzard skewers and the honjin special. Drinks are priced so well you cannot go wrong.

We will definitely be back!

Quite authentic atmosphere like yakitoriya or izakaya in Japan. I found yakitori is the BEST in city; the chef starts to grill raw chicken/steaks/okra, etc.once you put an order which will take longer time than other restaurants, but I rather want the fresh juicy taste of them. Busy eating that I didn’t take yakitori photos.

Honjin trinity was good combination of sashimi/wagyu on a roll. Shishamo would’ve been better to grill rather than deep fried with batter but still my family loved shishamo. Ramen is not recommended.

They said please let me contact with them but when I emailed them, until now, they never responded to me! WHAT A BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE? !

REAL wasabi with the best pressed sushi in town. Sashimi is also top grade and noticeably higher quality than other places. Also recommend chicken skin skewers (let them sit for 10 mins so that they'll crisp up!).

Probably the best Japanese restaurant in Calgary! Staff was super friendly and provided excellent service!

The service was good, quick and the sushi was delicious. For the quality of the food, it was reasonably priced! It’s such a cute restaurant and the food came out relatively quick. I would definitely come back again!

My boyfriend and I stopped by this restaurant late Saturday. To get into and exit the parking lot was quite annoying. The exit/entrance parking is made only for one individual car to access/exit the parking lot. This caused a lot of unnecessary traffic congestion.

They were located on the second floor, while Tokyo street market is on the main floor. We ordered the Chef’s Choice 15 piece sashimi, jumbo chicken kaarage, hamachi oishi sushi, chicken skin skewers and steak skewers. I would give the chef choice 15 piece sashimi a 7/10. Freshness and quality wasn’t very consistent with every piece. It was served with a raw fish skeleton with the head attached, we were told it wasn’t just decoration- but we could request them to deep fry it to enjoy after we finished the dish. The fishy smell of the fish skeleton was quite off putting and killed our appetite, so we declined when they asked us if want it deep fried. The jumbo chicken kaarage, were indeed jumbo but unfortunately dry and unseasoned. It was served with a spicy mayo sauce, however the sauce dish was too small, so we had to break it apart into smaller pieces to try to dip it in the sauce. The hamachi oishi sushi was decent, we felt the truffle oil was too overpowering. The best thing we ordered was the skewers. Overall, not sure if I would revisit this restaurant again.

I've been to all the Tokyo street chains and this one prob has the best quality when it comes to sushi and yakitori. The chicken skin was seasoned well and had the perfect crunch. The sashimi bowl was good but the nigiri didn't have the best cut. Their rolls were pretty tasty. We tried the bluefin and uni one. I love the decor and drinking vibes.

One of the best Japanese restaurants in the city. I love the food so much, especially the unagi and the Chef's special deluxe sashimi. The staff and service are great. We had a very wonderful experience. Will definitely come back again.

We looked forward to giving Honjin a try. We ordered the:

- 4 kind Oshisushi (the bluefin tuna was very fresh; the truffle oil in the hamachi was subtle and I would have preferred a bit more)
- Somewhere over the rainbow (the tuna was particularly fresh and the yuzu mayo was refreshing with each bite and stood out)
- Honjin trinity (the Wagyu was very tender; the amaebi was lightly sweet, creamy and very enjoyable; the uni was the best part as it was sweet, smooth, creamy, and left a sweet aftertaste in your mouth)
- Age tofu (it was a bit on the dry side and the garlic soy sauce could have had more of a garlic presence for me)
- Shishamo karaage (the batter was thick relative to the willow leaf fish)
- Special salad (this was disappointing as the special dressing was essentially a flavorless mayo so it was mostly eating mixed greens; there were 4 thin slices of mango and the daikon did not come through)

I found that they were heavy on the rice for the sushi pieces which sometimes took away from the flavor of the sushi. Overall, the flavors of the seafood they use are very good but the price point is on the high side and the dishes could be more refined.

Seafood was super fresh, I had the oysters and assorted sashimi. Ramen was really good too, and the roll was fantastic.
