Good parking lot, unfortunately the barrier was closed but you could still park opposite. The canyon was impressive and beautiful. I can well imagine that it can get really hot in summer. We were there in winter, we couldn't see the way because of all the snow - we explored a bit - it was really beautiful. We could see many deer tracks in the snow.
I recently visited Horseshoe Canyon, and it left me utterly amazed. Making the journey all the way from Vancouver, B. C was definitely worth it. Despite the chilly winds, the breathtaking view was nothing short of spectacular. If you’re in the mood for a scenic adventure, don’t miss out on Horseshoe Canyon!
You can walk down into the canyon. We chose just to admire the canyon from the top, which is just a short walk from the parking lot. Great views and pictures from the top. We didn't feel like we missed out not going into the canyon, especially since there were swarms of midges out. Recommend to bring bug spray.
Stopped here after leaving Drumheller…so glad I did. Its amazing that you cant really see the canyon until you drive into the parking lot. There was a $2.00 dollar parking fee which I though was very inexpensive, and they have a POS machine for debit/credit cards. There are several lookout areas all made of wood and very solid. You can also go down the trail and into the canyon. Dog friendly. Small children will struggle a bit as the trail going down into the canyon is somewhat steep but very wide. I saw parents with their children in wagons or carrying them.
Beautiful canyon. Me and my kid went and saw it at sunset. The clear photos and video is from our visit this summer 2023. The old photo is of my dad, uncle, auntie and their foster dad in 1980. They are 60’s scoop survivors
There are nice lookouts by the parking lot which overlook the canyon. The hike through the canyon itself was great and offered unique sights as we progressed further. The path forward isn't always obvious, so it is recommended to use some sort of navigation to get through the entire trail.
There's also a lot of wildlife (various types of rodents and snakes) which can be found along the trail.
I fell down because I slipped and I also saw another woman fell down. Whichever Einstein had the idea to put medium-sized stones on the steep paths? I hurt my leg despite I wore hiking boots. The canyon wasn't as spectacular as I hoped. Waste of time and health.
Scenic views. But watch out for the peace officer. It’s the dukes of Hazzard. Watch out for the speed traps. Other than that was very nice stop while leaving Drumheller.
This was so fun to explore and see! I did the entire loop and took my time to appreciate nature and this fascinating part of nature. Even with a decent amount of people here I still was able to enjoy this peacefully and at my own pace.
While interesting the Horseshoe Canyon is a little underwhelming. You observe the area from a county run observation deck. It requires a couple dollars to enter. The observation decks show off the canyon, but it is not particularly large or interesting. There are walking trails that you can use and there’s also a camping ground very nearby with a small store. Overall, we were happy that we visited the horseshoe canyon, but I cannot say that I would return. Bring water and comfortable shows if you want to walk around.
Had a beautiful day trip to the canyon and enjoyed a walk about with great weather that day. New improvement have been made for lookout decks and safe entrance into the canyon.
Upon arrival was surprised to learn $2 parking fee for future improvements and maintenance. They are definitely using the fee to better the area for visitors.
There is a new campground onsite with a convenience store. Had purchased ice cream and played some corn hole.
