Historic hotel perfectly situated in the heart of downtown Calgary. Spacious and luxurious room.
07 January 2024 22:57
We booked a gold room and were treated like a king and queen. Every member of staff we encountered were kind and curious and always had time to say hello.
Even though we live in the city a stay at Fairmont palliser is the perfect celebration. Thank you.

Six of us went to the spa to celebrate a bday and pre-wedding. Was a little disappointed that after booking, the estitician was sick, so I couldn't get my waxing service that I wanted. Their lockers were finicky. All of us had an issue with ours at some point during the visit. We kept having to ask the receptionist to open it. The locker room was a bit tight. Especially later on the day when they had more appts coming in. The hot tub was out of order (Boo). And as the day went by, there weren't enough seats in the waiting room for all of us to sit together. Don't order the charcuterie as it's not worth $85. On the plus side, it smelled really good in there and my massage was soo good!
25 October 2023 5:55
Very saddened by my stay. No hot water was available for a bath and the hot tub is closed until December and we were not told this. So I waited shivering in my bath waiting for water to heat up. I had to call and ask for hot water to warm my retainer up because the water wouldn't warm enough to soften it. Really hoping management can rectify this because this was a horrible experience. I asked the front desk if I could leave and find a hotel with a hottub and get a refund, and she said the quickest response would be to email the website contact page. Of course that's not fastest. That's a web form.
Very sad.

I went for brunch - invited by a friend. It was ok. I am not actually what the cost was but honestly the food was just meh. Maybe because we did a brunch buffet instead of ordering off the menu but next time we will pick OEB or something similar.
07 September 2023 10:03
If I could give 6 or 7 stars I would. Everything was perfect. The staff was excellent, look for Jack in the restaurant as he we get you anything you want. Housekeeping even took care of anything we needed. I've been to alot of Fairmonts and Calgary is the best. The pool area exceeded my expectations and the overall hotel opulence and cleanliness was over the top. Thank you very much Fairmont palleser for a wonder anniversary stay. Look forward to coming again.
28 August 2023 14:13
The Fairmont Palliser sure knows how to make special occasion sure something to remember! Thanks so much to the staff on the Gold Floor
27 August 2023 17:17
Great hotel and loved the atmosphere… if only for drop off had more space for cars to park
22 August 2023 18:10
Booked a room online, called the front desk twice to confirm our room and details before going out on the town. Come to the hotel later that night to check in and find out that they didn’t reserve us a room, offered us another room with one less bed and a cot instead of an extra bed, for more than we booked and paid for online. Front desk didn’t offer any solutions and just sent us on our way at a time of day we couldn’t book another hotel room for less than $350 a night
10 August 2023 22:03
The whole longue was full. Everybody was waiting to check in. It was so disappointing when you paid 500 dollars for half of day.
Very bad experience.
25 February 2022 19:30
Valet is convenient, food quality is high in the lounge. Rooms are clean and welcoming. Super environment. Good value.
18 February 2022 23:22
Love this place, Fairmont’s are so beautifully decorated during the holidays. The tipsy elf was a cute little Christmas pop up bar!
03 February 2022 7:36
Went for Yuletide lunch to celebrate my partner's birthday. It was a three course meal and cost per person was $45. All the covid protocols are being adhered to and make sure you have your vaccination records and photo IDs handy.

Food was superb. For the First Course
Winter Squash Bisque, Pumpkin Seed & Gingerbread Croutons, Second Course was Spiced Turkey Breast, Confit Leg Stuffing, Carrot, Cranberry, Gravy and for the Third Course it was Spiced Rum Eggnog Crème Brulée, Raisin Biscotti.

Everything tasted fantastic. Staff were courteous and pleasant.

Definitely a must go!

Amazing welcome by Amanda. Thank you, Amanda. You are special.
Was disappointed by the food. The way the present the menus! On a piece of paper! Fairmont Palliser! Food is expensive for nothing, less choices, I was chocked; wine is so expensive! Will never that place again sorry. When to small hotels and got amazing stuff, so the name does not mean anything. It’s beautiful for sure but…. Is not all about beauty. Can’t say anything about rooms, I wasn’t in there
24 January 2022 16:15
Terrific hotel, clean and nicely appointed with an excellent restaurant. I typically stay here when I'm in Calgary.
23 January 2022 18:48
We have stayed here numerous times but will not be returning. With the exception of the front desk and maintenance staff whom were helpful and kind. We found the in-room dining staff and hawthorn staff to be quite cold and indifferent about our requests and concerns. I asked for a steak to be cooked medium and out of hunger ate a couple pieces, then realized it was rare when I could taste the disgusting blood in my mouth. I left half of it in a napkin with a few pieces on the plate explaining that to the server. She just looked at me and said they could cook it some more? ! No thanks. Lost my appetite for this place.
20 January 2022 6:53
Very nice place! The inside was gorgeous and the people were very kind there. The food was great too. I would love to come back here.
06 January 2022 6:59
Take away meals from Hawthorn Restaurant in the hotel are fantastic and a wonderful selection for daily dining or special holidays.
31 December 2021 11:54
Breathtaking historic hotel, little disappointed that the Christmas decorations this year were a little less grandiose and opulent as in past years experience. But definitely a favorite.
29 December 2021 7:14
We are currently sitting at the Tipsy Elf pop up, and while the decor is on point (it’s obvious that the elf in charge of decorating was half cut while throwing up the tinsel) we have watched multiple tables being seated and served while we still wait for our sever to take our order. One waiter, who we asked to order from but said he couldn’t, but would get our server asap, came back to apologize and had the audacity to grab our arms while offering a half sincere apology. Ummm covid? Well, the start to the festive season is a major bust.
26 December 2021 19:05
Super friendly staff… very nice rooms and lots of parking attached. Restaurant has a great menu. And location is great
20 December 2021 22:47
Amazing staff! Spent the night at the fairmont to celebrate my birthday. The staff went above and beyond to make our kid-free night a fabulous one. They even gave me complimentary drink and cake to celebrate my birthday. Rooms are spacious, clean and modern.
13 December 2021 17:51
We had our wedding ceremony here which was booked 1 and a half weeks to our wedding due to our other venue not being able to accommodate us anymore and it was just perfect. Michele and the rest of the staff involved made the experience amazing. There hospitality was great! Will definitely recommend.
08 December 2021 9:50
Stayed here on our last night of the Canadian Rockies trip during the pandemic.

Nice historic place. Spacious & clean rooms. The bed is comfortable.

Standard appliances with Keurig & kettle.

Right next door to the Calgary Tower & Downtown.

Now, the minus points:
Very noisy at night. Even it was on the 9th floor. Maybe people are showing off how loud their tailpipes can be near & after midnight. Could have done with replacing more insulated windows. Couldn't really sleep way pass midnight. Maybe I am so used to the quiet environment at home & on the Rockies.
07 December 2021 18:01
World class, classical hotel with Western spirit, excellent front desk service, perfectly priced - great place to stay in Calgary. For travel, work or romantic holidays - Palliser is hotel of my first choice.
06 December 2021 2:44
This was my second time staying here & it was lovely. The beds are so comfy and the hotel is obviously beautiful. All the staff members are really nice also.
13 November 2021 0:13
We wanted to have dinner and drinks except we were only able to get through drinks (which our waiter reminded us that they didn’t even have the basic sparkling water and wanted to educate us on what ESKA is. Never mind that after waiting for our drinks and being served, it was made apparent that we couldn’t get basic Parking validated after our visit. What low class service for a Fairmont property. (I’ve been to over 31 Properties across Canada and all have left me speechless with their amazing service, I practically live at the Royal York and everyone knows me there by name. I am always courteous, compliment the service and tip extremely handsome. It’s a shame that this property can’t afford to validate $6.30 of parking esp if a person would wine and dine at the property. Not ever returning here nor booking future stays at this property.
02 November 2021 11:21
In every places there are some staff that become rude when they are tired for the whole day of work, and we understand that but still when you are in the front desk you should always wear your beautiful smile no matter what.
05 October 2021 16:57
I generally like the fair amount hotels. But seems this hotel stuff is not that friendly and professional. Whole family tried to swimming this morning. Young man stuff was is the spa area told us the swimming close and don’t know when open rudely. We were told by front desk the pool open 5-11 when we checked in. One worker later on told us the pool will open 1 hour later after water check.compare to the hotel stuff, the hotel young man is so rude and unprofessional.
29 September 2021 23:33
Terrible service. Hotel charged me 67 dollars for a 15 minute phone call when it doesn't post anything about Canada calling. Honestly, they just want to rip you off. Disgusted at what the Fairmont is now doing.
26 September 2021 15:39
An older hotel and it shows a bit but it has a sense of elegance to it. It was a great stay and I would recommend it if you want to be in the core of Calgary.
16 August 2021 8:33
So hospitable. Had an issue with a clogged bathroom when I came in. They upgraded my room in 10 minutes to a junior suite on the gold floor. Would definitely stay here again for the stampede.
30 July 2021 2:28
Wanted to valet car when we arrived. No one was there at the front door at 7: 30pm to help park, with luggage, etc?
Felt like the front desk didn't greet me or my family kindly; I think it's because we look young and not all stuffy business suit type of old people. Then they tried to upsell a room for another $600.

Had a suite for one night, not reno'd and the shower didn't work, had to call maintenance. It was so built up with hard water deposits. Room had burnt out light bulbs. WiFi wouldn't connect properly, kept saying there was an error.
Second night was better. Door greeter was present, and moved to a regular room, but it was actually nicer than the suite.

Actually had 2 VERY pleasant servers at the Hawthorne, one in the evening and one in the morning. Compliments to them!

Pool was clean with well maintained change room.

We came from Banff and are currently staying here now! We’ve extended our stay for almost a week now and hope to continue but we have realized that we need to pay for comfortability and cleanliness! I had to come to the city for treatment I couldn’t get in Banff and we had a rough first night somewhere else. When we came to the Palliser our trip changed. I’ve never felt this comfortable in a hotel, it’s so clean and just all around amazing. This hotel has made my treatment, something that was supposed to be very scary, the most amazing experience and I definitely didn’t think I’d be saying that! I’ll definitely be staying here again for an actual vacation!
I’m still hoping to get the recipe for their amazing Strawberries and Cream Panna Cota Dessert
25 July 2021 13:21
Great location. Quick check in and was as expected. Update* they charged me for the mini bar post check out. After calling in it was cleared. If I hadn’t seen the charge it would gone without notice. Bad mistake for the hotel to make.
18 July 2021 21:13
Staff were great but the hotel is definitely using the “fairmont” name to hide how dilapidated the interior of the building is. Dressers had handles falling off, the mirror in the bathroom was barely mounted on the wall, we found a previous occupant’s hair in the suite, we definitely won’t be booking another night here.
20 June 2021 6:24
The bed was comfy and the staff were polite, but the bathroom was small and outdated, shower head was half broken, the room keys never worked, and the thermostat didn't actually control the temperature. Not to mention there are zero amenities, no fridge or microwave or anything. I've paid half that price for significantly nicer rooms in other hotels. Huge disappointment.
26 May 2021 9:11
Enjoyed a night away for my anniversary. A little hiccup with the room booking but quickly remedied. Also has a chance to enjoy the spa and pool which was an added bonus in these Pandemic times. Overall very pleased with our stay.
19 May 2021 7:29
We went for a girls trip for a birthday weekend. The service was awful and not something that I expect from a four diamond hotel. When we checked in I found a hair inside my bed. We called down and no one said sorry. The housekeeping was very nice about it but the hotel manager did nothing accept give one coupon for a single glass of sparkling wine despite there being two hotel guests that were inconvenienced by this. I do not expect this from a hotel of this level let alone in covid times. Cleanliness of rooms should be a top priority. On top of this there were other instances we ran into a few issues during our stay and management was unable to help and very rude. We also were in a signature room and the light was flickering and burnt out as we were eating in the room. My girlfriends and I were also walking in the hotel and a group of teenagers who were not guests in the hotel came in and starting shouting rude things to us. The hotel should be watching who is coming in and out especially now as they claim everyone needs to have a temperature check to enter. This hotel does not take covid protocol seriously and I do not feel like returning.
14 May 2021 16:05
I want to give this hotel like 15 out of 10. I was celebrating my daughter’s surprise sweet 16th birthday this weekend which is a big deal for me. With COVID restrictions plus a look down that was announced a couple of days prior to the big day, the stress was overwhelming for me. The hotel took all my worries and stress away and give us a birthday celebration that will go down in history for one of the best pandemic celebrations. From booking to check out, everything was top notch and outstanding! First, this hotel is gorgeous and will take your breath away with its beauty. Everyone at the hotel took our birthday celebration so seriously as if I was the only guest at the hotel. The entire staff and management team all contributed towards making this a dream come true birthday celebration and I still can’t get over it. They were all so friendly, kind, and willing to do whatever it took to make the moment memorable for my daughter and our family. We were upgraded to a luxurious and extremely specious room with a great view for no additional cost to make my daughter feel extra special. They also gave her a birthday card and decorated the room with birthday balloons that melted my heart. The fridge was well stocked with all kinds of drinks from soft to alcohol. There was ongoing communication by text throughout the entire visit to ensure that we were comfortable and happy. The swimming pool was clean, relaxing and private as it was booked for our family only for an hour. The valet parking service was beyond awesome as they had the car right in front of the hotel doors to help me go in and out during my preparations. The valet staff also helped me carry stuff to and from my car. They were so helpful. We we given early checkin and late checkout also for no additional cost. I highly recommend this hotel. It should be called the COVID19 De-stress Hotel. You don’t even need an occasion to enjoy this luxury experience. You should definitely include it in your self care plan because you deserve it! I am from Calgary and I will definitely be escaping with my family to enjoy a luxurious weekend of fun at this hotel again very soon. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done to make our stay and birthday celebration special. See you soon ️️.
02 May 2021 10:23
Great location, awesome hotel. Reception (Tatiana) sent a complimentary desert to our room for our anniversary.
Thank you for a great stay.
14 April 2021 0:01
The bathroom tub was rusted and old accompanied by grey worn towels. Also absent, a vanity to place toiletries on. Our view, another building. One chair in the room, minus footstool etc etc.
Considering the current lockdown and most likely, minimum hotel occupancy, it’s surprising more effort was not made to avoid this poor room assignment.
10 April 2021 16:43
Very elegant and posh hotel. Really loved the ambience and the details of the hotel. Our room was at the seventh floor opposite to the calgary tower. The view of the tower was really nice. Rooms were quite spacious, well maintained. The only downside is, the washroom, which was a little congested. The closet space was bigger than the washroom.
05 April 2021 13:44
Love the location. Perfect first night after flight before headed out. Great service. Great breakfast. Over all absolutely gorgeous hotel. Friendly service. Rooms really clean. We will be back
22 March 2021 17:49
Great hotel. We were able to have early check in and a late check-out for our New Year's eve stay. Our room was wonderful and we will be staying here again.
17 March 2021 19:05
I’ve stayed at the Palliser multiple times throughout the years. Our most recent time was quite wonderful. We utilized the spa, which was glorious. The bar was also quite enjoyable as well. Everything is a little pricy, so be prepared. A cocktail is $17.00, however, as usual, Fairmont properties are usually worth the premium.
15 March 2021 15:48
This is a beautiful hotel. We had a comfortable room and the lobby looks great. We get that it's COVID times and this hotel probably isn't the best representation of itself. However, I was very dissapointed with the service. Whether it was watching us struggle with our luggage and failing to even offer to hold the door, not explaining COVID protocol (we appreciate getting our temperature checked upon entry, however, this was not explained upon check-in and led to an awkward exchange later on) or even our parking options (didn't love the $63 cost to park next door for 1 night). Telling me to call impark is also not helpful. I expect poor value from an impark lot; I expect better value and service from a Fairmont. I've stayed at many Fairmont's across North America and I have to say this was my most dissapointing from a service perspective. I really hope it's a one off.
19 February 2021 10:33
The place was stunning, I even got a tour of the spa. It's a place you wouldn't want to leave, and don't get me started on how good the food and drinks were. Our server was amazing, was super helpful with all our allergies. So shoutout to the chef, the bartender and our server 10/10
24 January 2021 22:46
Dated Fairmont. Pool is ok with hottub but the Jets in the tub are quite week. Rooms look like they were updated maybe 10 years ago. Would stay again for the location and staff though.
19 January 2021 1:29
Love this place! Customer service is topnotch. The hotel's restaurant is just as awesome. Service is attentive, staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and ambiance is wonderful. We only had desserts last time we visited, but they were above average - tasty and decently priced. Will be back next time we are in town!
16 January 2021 1:10
We had our dog with us and paid the $25 pet fee. The hotel provides a little goody bag for the dog that contained treats and poop bags. There aren’t many green spaces downtown but we were able to find a park within a 10 minute walk of the hotel. Pool access was restricted because of covid, you just need to reserve a time with the front desk. For parking, if valet is out of your price range, there’s a parkade right next to the hotel and we paid only $12 for overnight parking. Loved the mini products in the bathroom (Le Labo brand). Had a really quiet night here and didn’t hear any of the trains mentioned in the other reviews.
11 January 2021 4:08
Beautiful luxury hotel. The lobby and its grandness is a nice thing to see when you enter. Excellent staff with car vallet and luggage crew. The room was a little out dated but still a wonderful stay.
13 December 2020 20:08
Good location. Bellman area understaffed but the bellman there was very helpful and attentive. The marble counter and bathroom was not cleaned properly unfortunately.
11 February 2019 9:09
Worst Christmas brunch ever.
250$ not worth it at all!
Cold Turkey, cold roast (not cooked), cold mash potatoes (not mashed but chunky"mashed")
No actual breakfast food what so ever.
Won't be back again
Would never recommend this place to anyone.
If I could give 0 stars. I would!
07 February 2019 0:54
I was massively underwhelmed. Booked based on pool review and pool was worst hotel pool I have seen yet. Hidden charges are way to high. $45 a night for parking. Internet and cable is slow and choppy. Can guarantee no repeat stay at this hotel.
05 February 2019 11:05
Clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Had the Gold Lounge open to all for Cocktails with a View as part of their holiday celebrations. Quiet pool and other guests were also friendly. We were upgraded to a deluxe room at no cost. Despite having a profile set up, my welcome text was addressed wrong, though that could have just been autocorrect so I m not really that upset about it.
31 January 2019 22:18
How people think this is a good hotel when you hear trains banging together all night is beyond me. For the price go across the street to Le Germaine and get real quality.
29 January 2019 8:33
Quite nice facilities, hot tub, steam, pool and great massage. Changing rooms are tiny and not very private. Staff gave everyone arriving at the same time lockers next to each other.kind of awkward and funny.
24 January 2019 9:06
Staff were above and beyond call of duty, incredibly helpful and friendly. I was disappointed that there were refurbishments under way, so couldnt enjoy the restaurant and lounge.
20 January 2019 19:25
Absolutely amazing hotel with great customer service. I forgot toothpaste and they brought it up within 5 mins. The shower was great with good water pressure. The suite was large and spacious. The bed and pillows were done of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. There is a Starbucks downstairs which is incredibly convenient. Overall, I would strongly recommend this hotel. I would however recommend asking for a room. On the dude that isn’t against the train tracks if you are a light sleeper.
20 January 2019 5:08
Love this old hotel. Have stayed before and it's a five but Reno's have removed the fireplace restaurant and closed the lounge.although drinks apparently available on the 12th floor. Well hope the renovation doesn't ruin the beautiful old school respected vibe of the good old Palliser. The rooms still comfy but recent changes make me want to see need some more traditional furniture brought in, or back in. Not nearly as bad as many hotels with office furniture suites, but please don't take any more charm away or you'll just become an expensive version of Best Western
18 January 2019 15:22
Forgive me. The original 1 star was a mistake. The Fairmont Palliser deserves a 5 star rating. We very much enjoyed our stay. We had the tea which was a wonderful experience. The service was great and I look forward to going again.
16 January 2019 8:12
Stayed at this hotel last week for a xmas party. Overall, the check in was quick and polite and the room was cozy, clean and well appointed. In general, I was disappointed with the construction of the bar/restaurant on site (closed) and the extremely long wait for room service (over an hour). A hotel such as this should be much more accommodating in food and beverage. We then waited over 45 min.for the valet. This was an absolute nightmare and frankly should be embarrassing for the hotel. For 40 dollars for valet and such lackluster service, I would highly suggest to stay somewhere else.
14 January 2019 19:05
Our company had our Christmas party in the Alberta Ball room. It's a lovely venue and the catered meal was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful in any requests made. It was a very wonderful experience.
13 January 2019 7:22
It was nice. I stayed in a Signature room. There is a lot of history in this building. Only four stars because the restaurant and lounge are closed for renovations until 2019, room service is available though.
13 January 2019 1:26
Fives stars for the price. Hotel is closer to a 4-star.

The Palliser is a beautiful old hotel. The rooms have been recently renovated. Most of thr restuarants are closed due to renovation but I believe high tea and Starbucks are still open. The price seems more than reasonable for a historic hotel in a good location.
06 January 2019 8:04
Location was very close to restaurants and bars along Stephen Avenue and 2 blocks away from the CTrain. Rooms were clean and spacious and the lobby was very beautiful and full of character. It can be somewhat loud at times because it's next to the CP train tracks but I was able to sleep through the night.
31 December 2018 8:39
Amazing! Such a beautiful old building, very regal. The staff are very happy and seem very eager to ensure we have a great visit. There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about this hotel.
30 December 2018 11:09
The restaurant & lobby bar are CLOSED for rennovations and they don't even tell you this on their website. They have a temporary (terrible) restaurant in their basement. I wouldn't bother staying here until their rennovations are complete.
22 December 2018 13:56
Ryley from front desk was super welcoming upon our arrival. The hotel is also beautiful, clean and the staff are incredibly friendly. A great stay for business or a city getaway.
21 December 2018 23:11
The Fairmont is a beautiful and professional hotel. They put customer service as their first priority and provide exceptional service. The hotel is always neat and clean. The staff are friendly and go above and beyond for all their guest. I would love to stay at the Fairmont again.
20 December 2018 9:28
Absolutely atrocious this was one of the worst Fairmont hotels I have ever stayed in not only where the rooms duster for renovation dirty carpets in all the hallways customer service was not engaging and in the end we were treated awful by front staff when complaining about a overcooked burnt Burger.

FYI palliser you're not the only game in town.staying at a hotel with this much heritage should be an experience and you did everything to ensure it was an experience that I'd never want to have again.
