Howard Johnson by Wyndham Red Deer

Not a bad motel for the money.
Some rooms do not have a pleasant smell, there is a refrigerator, TV, microwave oven. Relatively clean, there were stains on the bedspread. There is also breakfast (banana, toast, coffee, juice, milk).

Tracy is an absolute gem and changed our nights around! My car broke down 10 pm on a long weekend after we spent the day trying and failing to get my boyfriend’s phone repaired and we had to stay in Red Deer until we could get it towed the next day. Tracy’s personable customer service really lit up our night and took part of the edge off of a long day

So, this place is a bit old. Not worn out old, but almost old wood frame building old. Being a bit old is a good thing though, it means they have the routine down and know what to expect from guests and how they can do their best. The breakfast was pretty good too, and all the staff I interacted with were great!

The rooms are well equipped (AC, coffee maker, of course towels and shampoos). Breakfast is very good. The biggest praise deserves especially the staff, who were very friendly and helpful from the first minutes. Thank you!

An A&W and a macdonalds in walking distance but for other options you'll likely find yourself taking a 7 minute drive to Lena Street on the opposite side of the highway for other restaurant options. Gas station is also right behind this location. It is conveniently located if you are traveling between edmonton and Calgary.

I was in room 214. It was clean. A/C isn't too effective but at least there is one. Lowest setpoint is 62F, doesnt appear to have a de humidifierbuilt in. On hotter days you are better off leaving the door open instead. Lights are dim but enough to get by. Getting into a room is quite a fight unless you know how the doors work. You gotta pull all the way down + a little more. Without knowing this you'll have to put your key card in a few times to get in.

Breakfast options included: bread, butter, jam, instant oats, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, tea.

If being social with employees is important to you then you may find less opportunity to interact here. But the employees are friendly.

I preferred the super 8 at city center but this one is an OK option when others are not available. Also a good option if you are on a road trip and just staying over for the night.

Room 400 stunk like cigarette smoke, electrical wires were sticking out from the baseboard heater in the bathroom, the shower head leaked profusely, no comforter just a sheet blanket, a cabinet bottom fell off just from opening it.

Can't really complain. Simple rooms, but didn't expect anything more, nothing wrong with the place!
