Eat here all of the time! I’m celiac and have severely difficult dietary restrictions. Rob & his team are incredible! They take care of their customers and their food is amazing. 10/10 would recommend and I LOVE Indian and Indian fusion cuisine. This place is legit and delicious. Please try it if you like good food and great people! Local Calgary businesses are the best!
Wonderful place for a delicious Indian food experience. Good range of menu items, from appetizers to meats, seafood and vegetarian. Portions were filling, and there was a good selection of desserts as well. Will be back
I have ordered the butter chicken from here every time and it is perfect. It’s super delicious and always warm when I combine it with their soft rice at home. 10/10 recommend!
My partner and I just moving into the neighborhood. We thought we would go out for a bite to eat and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the owner was polite, friendly and welcomed us into the neighborhood.
Me and my fiancée are from Vancouver and came to Calgary 2 weeks ago for the Stampede. We came across this lovely joint and we absolutely loved it. The chaat was a 10/10, as well as the channa bhature and gulab jaman. The staff and owners were the sweetest and made us feel so welcomed. I highly recommend:)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Indie, a charming Indian restaurant located near my place. The experience was nothing short of excellent! The highlight of my meal was the Butter Chicken paired with Garlic Naan, which was hands down the most extraordinary combination I’ve ever tasted in Canada. Every bite was bursting with flavor, and I couldn’t get enough of it!
The variety of other curries on their menu was equally impressive, and each one was a delightful journey of spices and aromas. Despite having only 2 tables, the cozy ambiance added to the overall charm of the place. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and it’s safe to say I’ll be returning for more delightful meals in the future. If you’re a fan of Indian cuisine, Indie is an absolute must-visit!
Still recall ordering a local pint for $9. Problem was the inexperienced young server kept pouring it out as it was foaming and a bad line. Ended up still being half foam and slightly warm. Kicker was it was served in a plastic 14 oz cup. For that price it should be 20 oz. This was at the previous location. A shame as I got flak for it…
Very very tasty food. The samosas were definitely my favourite and will be returning to get more. Not to say I won’t be returning for anything else because I sure will be. Wonderful customer service and great tasting food, thank you for such a good dinner!
I used to order often from this place when they were in the Kensington location before they closed down. I ordered for the first time since being in their West Springs location and I honestly don't know what happened. I ordered the Grinder, and the OG for pickup, and when I got it home, and it was so salty, and the grinder was swimming in oil on the top. I actually couldn't eat it so ended up throwing it out. What a waste of money. I guess this is what happens when you let other people run your restaurant, because the food used to be phenomenal. It's too bad!
The food was good and fresh. Authentic Indian food and halal. However, the portions were small compared to the price. A good place to go to if you are in the southwest but can’t go to Northeast for south asian food.
There’s better fusion places. This was just over priced, over salted, greasy (bhattura), and under-flavoured fusion Indian food. Not returning here as all food we ordered was unpalatable to our Indian street food tastes - may suit others’. ️ - extra just for the service and that they serve a good IPA!
So we just came in to try this restaurant out of sheer curiosity but were absolutely blown away, not only by the food, presentation and setting, but the amazing owner. I can honestly say it was the best experience I’ve EVER had. He made such amazing conversation, was so passionate about his food and business. He just overall was a joy to be around.
The food was amazing. With most Indian restaurants I’ve noticed just too much spice and no flavour (and I can handle my spice). The food here was such a nice mix of flavour, there was always that one ingredient that was used or the way it was incorporated that kept you tasting more and more to guess what it was.
I am a huge fan of falooda shakes, and so far of the 10-15 places I’ve visited, I only had one place that I liked. BUT… wow the one here was just amazing. The not too sweet and not too sour with the hint of cardamom really made my taste buds happy. The falooda shake here is now in my top 2, and usually that would be a hard decision for me but this was an easy choice.
I can’t wait to visit again and try new things! I had the best experience ever:)
Went to the West Spring location last night and it did not disappoint! It is walkable distance from home so it's a great addition to the neighbourhood! I highly recommend the Thali combo. The palak paneer and butter clucker were so delicious! Will be back again!
I’ve been coming here since very soon after the first covid lockdown was over. I’ve constantly been impressed and all of my friends are too! The butter chicken is just unbelievable and tonight I ordered a butter chicken poutine. They put soooooo much butter chicken on it that I’m actually going to make some rice tomorrow so I don’t waste a drop of that sauce. Best butter chicken in calgary!
Ordered the butter chicken poutine. Flavours were on point and the portion size was just right. I was the only one dining at the restaurant but there was still a lack of customer service when it came to quality checkup and asking about my food experience. More attention in these areas would be ideal but would come back to eat again.
Yum yum yum. The flavours made my mouth dance. I am not up on my Indian food despite going to India many times but my friend wanted me to try this cool hip happening place. It was fab from start to finish and best news, I have some for leftover lunch. Thanks Rob the Rockstar and to my friend for making me get up to support local.
Just tried the new location and it is FANTASTIC. So fresh. The butter chicken was perfectly balanced with the right amount of flavour and spice, and all of our dishes were super delish. They were very respectful of my gluten allergy as well. Very friendly staff. Welcome to the neighbourhood! We are so happy to have you here!
The food was horrible and so was the service. The Indian girl named Vani who served us was super nice. But this other girl (probably a manager) clearly hates her job. Not a true representation of Indian cuisine. Curry was watery and bland. Tandoori was salty as hell. Nan was cold and didn’t taste fresh.
I ordered thali and it failed miserably. Legit Indian taste lost somewhere in the attempted fusion and experimentation.
Naan/roti that you served today 22 May 2022 was forcefully oiled. Indians don't use this much oil. An assumption most non natives have. Butter paneer was like a sweet dish. Thankfully I did not order a sweet dish.
Went to the new Indie Counter Culture that opened on 85t Street, SW. Been waiting for it to open. Initial impressions when looking online at their Kensington location was that prices were a bit high for what you were getting - could get it cheaper at a good Indian Restaurant that would give you 15% off for Takeout.
As I love Indian food, you have to at least give it a try to see if it is worth the additional expense as it is a little different to most Indian takeouts.
Had the spud - this is different and unique and I thought was pretty good.
Also had the Butter Clucker Poutine - this was a little expensive for what it was - with only 2 pieces of chicken in the dish. Sauce was not that great.
Overall not bad.
Will likely try the veggie and fish pakora as well as the garlic naan - always can tell a good Indian based on how well they make and serve their naan breads.
I was intrigued by this place when it popped up on my search… our Airbnb is 5 minutes away so we tried it. It was good. The garlic naan was yummy and BIG! Hubby got the “Slum Dog” and it was really good! The samosa were waaaay salty for some reason - my guess is it was a mistake. It killed whatever good flavor was beneath all the salt Only left out one star for this reason.
Travelled from Toronto to Calgary this week and had the pleasure of stopping in at Indie. We have a lot of Indian food options in the GTA and my experience at Indie Counterculture was like no other! The butter chicken lived up to its reputation and the Scoville Beef had the perfect balance of heat and savoury goodness. And the White Out (Aloo Gobi). Phenomenal. Staff was exceptional and the place was immaculate. Good job Indie, I look forward to coming back again!
As soon as I came in, the smell of the spices made me want to eat. The eruption platter comes with very balanced portions, the taste of everything is beyond good. Service is top notch. Definitely coming back
The staff is friendly but you need to be patience. It was a pity that what I called starters, came together with the main course. Also not to well heated, but the taste was very good. Okra curry tasted well, but again not well heated.
EVERY BITE IS A DELICIOUS VICTORY! The food speaks for itself, incredible. A welcome rejuvenation of an already wonderful cuisine. Rob the owner is so so passionate about making wonderful food, and chef Arshad creates dishes with nuance and depth. Go here! Eat in. Enjoy!
A very modern and delicious Indian Style restaurant with a good selection of curries to try.
The Butter Clucker is your standard butter chicken recipe, a bit sweet in the palate but a great choice for those intolerant of spices.
The Grinder consists of ground chuck steak and peas and was my first time experiencing a non-chicken based curry. It was fantastic!
Pair both with some basmati or herb seasoned Indie Rice and of course the Garlic Naan bread (a must have with any curry) and you have enough to share with one or two others.
I am ashamed I didn’t take any photos as the food looked as good as it tasted! Definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re in the area or order in if you want the night off from cooking.
Awesome food! The best part is the chicken tenders and fries. If it wasn't for that, we wouldn't be eating as a family. Great tasting choices for the adults and something for the little ones.
This is definitely a new go to spot when looking for some well-executed, solid street food that just overall satisfies those cravings. We got the papri chaat, cheese naan and the fish pakora! All were delicious. Fairly priced imo as well.
I finally gave Indie Counter Culture a try today and it was delicious! I only tried the cheese naan today but it was super flavourful and cheesy. I will definitely return to try more dishes! The staff were super friendly.
Whenever I'm in kensington stopping at indie counterculture is a must! The food is always spectacular and you can tell the owner is very passionate in his buisness and the food he serves his customers.
Very poor food quality, Naans were not cooked properly. Mentals or the Daal we ordered was not north indian type. The paneer option called Butter Cheese Face had tomato catchup in the taste couldn’t eat more than one piece of naan along with the food. Would not recommend to north indian people. Thanks.
The food is great but the customer service and attention to detail is lacking. I ordered for delivery and was sent the wrong item, and the time before that, I was missing the same item completely. They made no attempt to make it right. The food also takes a long time to arrive. It took an hour and a half to get it and we live in the neighbourhood.
*Update* I ordered again through DoorDash and they called me and offered a free item to make up for the inconvenience of my missing items. Thank you! It’s much appreciated.
Amazing food, and service. The owner is also a very educated and passionate individual when it comes to the food, and it's prep. All and I wish I could give them a higher rating. I will definitely be back for more!
This is not the ordinary Indian food restaurant: this is THE THING! The curry are awesome. The butter chicken is as awesome as the curry. The butter chicken poutine is…as my native language is French, I tried to find a word to describe it but it seems that it doesn’t exist as I write the review. Brief, it’s way way more than awesome. The 5 persons in my family are real Indian food lovers and we all agreed that this is the best Indian restaurant we’ve been so far on this Planet.
Came in with a small group for our first time there. Enjoyed delicious appies on the deck and then tried to find room for our lovely meal. Staff and owner were great with questions and very friendly. We are definitely coming back!
Extremely friendly staff. You can tell the owner is deeply passionate about his restaurant and the food it creates and serves.
The food itself was all excellent. Some of it is more traditional, but many menu items are unique takes on Indian food. The menu itself is playful and fun.
Was a bit unsure at first to try as a lot of places like this mess up the flavors, but Indie did NOT disappoint! The atmosphere was great, played Indie music to complete the vibe, and the food was delicious! The staff was above and beyond, and we did not find one fault with the food. The food isn't exactly like the street food you get in India, but I guess that's the point. One thing is that the indoor seating is a little lacking, but there is an outdoor section. Will visit frequently!
Fantastic experience. The food is great (we had a wide sampling of dishes too - nothing dissappointed), service is excellent, and the value is fantastic. I was really impressed at home much delicious food we got for these prices. Highly recommend this place. My family and I will definitely be back - everyone left happy last night.
Excellent, authentic, affordable! Refreshing cool plates with excellent textures, rich but not heavy curries, perfectly spiced, and just the right amount of heat.
Must try Indian food place in Calgary. Food is authentic and very tasty. Special mention to Angry rogan curry. Couple of parking spots can be available in front of the restaurant. Great service.
We ordered Puri Bhaji and Vada Pav. The taste was good, not typical Indian type but different good taste. They put pakora (fitter) in Vada Pav, not the Vada which makes it different. Bhaji taste was blend and Puri was good made of wheat, not of maida (all-purpose wheat). Puri was also not oily which is a good part.
I find everything inedible here. Which is shocking because everything sounds and looks so good in the photos and everything. Every time I order food it’s so salty? I get it that they are doing a fusion but it’s not really well done. I have never been to this restaurant and only ordered from UberEats.not sure if the travel is impacting the taste. Do not recommend the food here.
Great vibe.innovate menu but will only be back for spud. Honestly didn't like the food. It was a hit and miss on so many levels. Dishes I liked - Spud (vada pav) Samosa Chat and Garlic naan bread
Dishes I hated - Amaze balls (pani-puri), vegan butter cheese (paneer makhani) and chai (tea)
Great staff. Extremely helpful and professional. The place is also very clean and hygienic. However, the food is not authentic Indian and sadly not very nice. That being said I have not been here a lot so I have not tried most of the stuff. Would not recommend if you like authentic Indian food.
We ordered angry rogan which is goat curry and mad cow which is 3 beef sliders with 3 small bun with an egg.very good taste.tandoori roti is also good.we love it.
In second visit we had indie remix.which is chicken biryani.it was very good.just little oil much
