IRIS Optometrists and Opticians

A terrible experience at this location. I have dealt with IRIS before and have been very satisfied. This location is another story. Purchased $1,500.00 worth of lenses and glasses and received unacceptable service. After numerous attempts for the frames to fit I gave up and went to another location.

I would recommend anyone looking for eyewear to go elsewhere.

I write this review on behalf of my father's experience, as he does not have social media. I am quite disappointed in his experience, as I have been going to this IRIS location for many years for my eye exams and have always been treated well. My father, an elderly man of colour, walked into the store looking for frames on Thursday, September 28 and not a single person in the store acknowledged his presence. There was no one else shopping in the store, and several employees working on computers. As he continued to shop, another person entered the store, a white man, and this person was immediately acknowledged and tended to. As this other person was being assisted, nobody else in store offered any assistance to my father. He had every intention of purchasing frames but walked out without buying anything after this experience.
Unintentional or not, the message sent by this behaviour is clear: he was disregarded by the staff due to his skin colour. That is absolutely unacceptable; everybody deserves to be acknowledged when they walk into a store, regardless of skin colour, age, intention to purchase, etc. In good conscience, I don't think I can continue giving this store my business moving forward.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously and that the staff are better trained to greet all customers and move past their own race biases.

I've been getting my eye care at IRIS for many years, and am always pleased with their service. They're prompt, courteous, and professional. I highly recommend Dr. Simon Reid, my optometrist. He's friendly, thorough, and does a great job explaining the results of his examinations and encouraging good care of your eyes and vision.

I am totally amazed that I have fought with these glasses I got two years ago and Albert fixed them in only a few minutes.

I was experiencing what I suspected was yet another 'stye in the eye' so I called at 10am to see if I could be squeezed in to have an optometrist have a look at it. I never did receive a return call. But later in the day I decided to 'drop in' and was immediately seen and treated.

Service at Iris, Market Mall in Calgary was, and is always,
outstanding. Stacy Flaglar is very conscientious and detail oriented. Her valuable and very entertaining input was greatly appreciated.
She was also letting a new rep shadow with her and I was very impressed with her mentorship.

The whole team at Iris were incredibly accommodating for me today. Having found myself in a position where I just flew into Calgary with no lenses and out of date perscription glasses, I was looking for an urgent new perscription before I embarked on my holidays. The receptionist was so understanding of my situation and arranged for Dr. Meloche to see me right away. I can't thank them enough.

Exceptional Customer Experience!
Without hyperbole, the easiest and most pleasant eye exam I've every had and can say due to two people, Iris has raised the bar of the Eye Exam from a conventionally very transactional experience into a pleasant and amazing customer service experience, thanks to the exceptionally professional, personal and kind service by both Gabriella and Albert. It would be my pleasure to continue to return to Iris at Market Mall with my family for many years ahead. Keep up the great work, it is noticed and makes all the difference

I've been going here for 10+ years to get my eyes checked and for new glasses. Recently I had a change in insurance companies and my coverage no longer covers the price of glasses in store here (but I still got my eyes checked here).

I called to ask if I could get the measurements for my glasses, they told me they would charge me $25 todo this and it was non negotiable. This is an absolutely ridiculous scam, and some of the worst customer relations I've ever experienced.

Usually Iris is great, nice staff and good competent people, but I will not be going back after this experience. There is little room to help the customer out or give them something they need in order to get service elsewhere. I'm so disappointed.

Extremely overpriced.
They like to think, or at least tell customers, that they’re more costly because they are a cut above the rest.
They’ll tell you that they use “premium lenses” and “only the best labs”.
The truth is they use the same labs that most other stores use and there is nothing exceptional about their lenses or overall product.
Even still, they could present a compelling option if they offered the kind of top tier after sales support that often justifies higher prices.
Sadly, they don’t.
My wife and I each got a pair of glasses and we both had issues with striations or hazing in the periphery of the lenses.
When we brought them back to the store to have them looked at, the customer service agent just kept pretending that he could not see the defects. It was a laughable exercise in poor acting skills.
Friends of ours could see the defects standing three or four feet away from us but these people who work in the optometry industry couldn’t.
Save your money and go to Specsavers. They’re right around the corner in the same mall and a thousand times more value for your dollar.
This place doesn’t deserve your business.

Overall the service, efficiency and professionalism were pretty good. One discouraging item - I specifically asked not to have contact lenses check not to be performed and they still did it and charged me for that!

I appreciate the time and care Dr Meloche gives at each visit. He asks lots of questions, answers my questions, and listens, as well as troubleshoots as my eyes and needs change as I get older. Appointments are on time, not rushed, and personal. I am a contact lens wearer, but my spouse has purchased 2 pairs of glasses from IRIS and has really appreciated the honest opinions and suggestions (and care!) given when picking frames.

Great staff and service.gave me all the infomation i needed for me to make an informed decision for selecting new frames and lenses.

I’ve wanted to get my eyes checked for awhile and on a whim after passing by I decided “Hey, why not see if I can get them done now! ” Low and behold they accepted me as a walk in and an hour or so later I was ordering my first pair of progressive glasses! Being a newbie, I learned sooo much about my eyesight as well as possible solutions to help me see better. I was impressed with everyone who helped me today. Very friendly and welcoming!

I saw Dr. Claudia Aminiampong and she was so wonderful! She’s very knowledgeable, warm, and takes the time to care for you!

Stella at Iris was so helpful for me today! She made quick work of adjusting my sunglasses to fit my face again and I can’t tell you how relieved I am that they won’t fall off my head every time I bend over. Polite, friendly and super knowledgeable about the products in the store. Thank you!

Gale at market mall provided me with exceptional customer service. I was able to select and pick out sunglasses that fits my needs and lifestyle in less than 20 minutes! Thanks Gale! Highly recommend!

Horrible customer service!
I went there to buy sunglasses. There was only one employee at the store and once I entered and I was taking a look at the sunglasses she locked them and didn’t let me try them she said she’s with a customer and I have to wait until she’s done. So they were open before I came but she decided to lock them which is similar to kicking me out of the store. After going to multiple stores and I didn’t find the glasses that I wanted I came back after around an hour and she was still with the same customer. I came back after another half an hour and there was no one at the store. I asked if I can try the sunglasses and she said she’s waiting for another customer to come. After about 5-10 mins that other customer came and I didn’t get to purchase what I wanted! I will never come back to this store again. I have never experienced such a horrible customer service. I endded up buying the sunglasses that I wanted from designer optical online and they were cheaper than iris and I didn’t need to go through this horrible experience again.

Iris has true professional staff for all your needs. The optometrists and eyeglass specialists never rush you and are always willing to answer all questions.

I have bought glasses through Iris before, and never had a problem. This time I saw a different company had a BOGO event happening, so I tried there, never again! I had to refuse my glasses, they were not made correctly, and cancel my order. I happily went back to Iris for my glasses, they cost more but I know they will be correct. I have never been treated badly or rudely (see my review on the other optical place to see how badly I was treated). The woman that helped me was very friendly and very helpful. I have no issues.

I love this location. I have been coming here for glasses around ten years. I find the prices are fair and I love how kind everyone is. Would recommend.

They fixed my spare glasses for no cost when no other optical in Calgary even accepted to repair it.

They adjusted my glasses for me even though I did not purchase them at their clinic. They were very friendly and I recommend them!

I recently visited Iris at the market mall location and I must say it was a good experience. Stella was very friendly and professional during my pre exam. Dr. Gabriella Torano was a joy to deal with and great with person all round. If you you are looking for a well experienced optometrist then I highly recommend Dr. Gabriella Torano

My terrible terrible first experience and will be my last one in this store. This afternoon, I was asking a question and two receptionists made fun of my spoken mistake in front of me! Had never met such ill-mannered receptionist and never been in such a ridiculous situation! Really didn't know what to say and left the store immediately, without wasting one more second there.

Excellent service and product selection. I used to be a client here until I moved away a year ago. Today, they went above and beyond to help me when I forgot my contact lenses back at home before leaving for a flight out of Calgary. Thank you for your excellent customer service!

Went into the market mall location a couple of times over the past week as I was shopping for a new pair of glasses. Staff seemed way more concerned with their cell phones and stayed behind the counter the whole time without acknowledging that someone had walked into the store (both times). They didn't know the answer to any questions, nor did they try to find out (also refused to provide any suggestions - which staff at other stores are happy to do). Really liked a frame here but did not want to buy from Iris. Luckily I was able to find another store in market mall that could order them in for me. Extremely disappointed and would avoid giving them my money at all costs.

I recently brought all 3 kids in (ages 3,7 & 9) as well as myself for eye exams with Dr. Gabriella Torano. She was very knowledgeable and great with the kids. She did a nice job of explaining what and why she was performing each aspect of the exam and went above and beyond to ensure they were at ease throughout the exam. She also was great at walking me through the results of my exam and with me needing glasses for the first time in my life, she was very helpful in me understanding my different options. I highly recommend Dr. Torano and we will definitely continue to see her and take advantage of the trusted service she offers.

I finally threw away my very expensive Iris progressive glasses. I have never HATED a product so much. Nor was Iris any help, the frames were too small for progressive lens, plus one of the lenses continually ejected out of the frame, so they weren't even worth donating.
After the first month of purchasing the glasses, I went back to talk to Iris about their satisfaction guarantee and they just wanted more money.
I now purchase my glasses from Costco and am much happier with the whole experience.

I didn't get my eye exam done here, but the service of finding glasses was spectacular! Christina welcomed me right in and pretty thoroughly helped me pick out a nice pair of frames that suit me just right. Her knowledge was admirable and she was super friendly and helpful overall!

That said, Iris is a pretty expensive service so be prepared for a chunky bill at checkout. It was worth it to me, but if you're a little tentative about prices, do a little shopping around. Though, you do get what you pay for, you get lots of warranties, and eyes are very important to take care of so cheaping out can be hit or miss.

Overall, great service and very knowledgeable and friendly staff!
