Wow! Absolutely incredible flavor. Dishes that I would highly recommend are the takoyaki, lobster roll, and finish off with the honey crisp bread sticks. Will definitely be coming back.

It's one of my favorite restaurants in YEG. You never get disappointed with Tomo. The only complaint is it's hard to make a reso sometimes, but it's because they are so popular. None of their menu is bad. However, my favorite is their pepperoncino and their fresh sashimi. Aburi salmon, chop chop, and karaage are great choices, and chutoro, otoro are to die for! The servers are always very kind, accommodating, quick, and accurate!

Our favourite sushi place. Good vibes, quality, fresh ingredients, and service. Little on pricey end for a regular family meal but that’s why we frequent more on date nights. Price reflects food quality and freshness and you get what you pay for. Sakura roll is the best, it practically melts in your mouth! Honey bread is a relatively simple dessert but sooo delicious.

Everything about this place is perfection. The staff are immaculate. The food is to die for. Izakaya Tomo is the best place I have been to in my entire life, hands down.
If someone gave me two options: Izakaya closes or I have to kill someone…Sorry mom.

【ENG/日本語】A truly delicious and authentic Japanese restaurant! I would often come here with my coworkers at my part time job after our shift, as the owners of both Japanese restaurants were quite close.

Not only is the fish fresh and great, but there are certain items on the menu as well that are not often offered in restaurants in Canada (but are in Japan) so I was really happy to find them!

The interior is nice and cozy and really feels like a warm Izakaya. The owners and staff are really kind as well!

This is a nice spot with fresh ingredients and friendly staff. Rolls are delicious and the Okami Kasu beer was light and delicious. Good spot for casual dinner and chatter.

There is no place in Canada that I would rather be than inside this restaurant. I went again and it is still my favorite place that puts things in your mouth

Delicious! Service was surprisingly fast for a full house and the food is great! Spicy crispy sushi and the kushi katsu (fried skewers) were my favorites of the night! Tonpei is great for okonomiyaki lovers. Beef tataki was a big hit with my family, just make sure you don't mind uncooked slices of meat!

This restaurant is the worst Japanese restaurant they give me bad food and terrible sushi and they didn’t even replace it I talk to manager and she was very rude she didn’t want to replace the sushi it was terrible don’t go to this restaurant

I have been going to Izakaya Tomo for years and the food has been consistently superb. Their takoyaki is the best in Edmonton - just the right amount of crispiness on the outside with an umami-rich flavour overall. It's a must-have every time I go! Some of my other favorites include the creamy and cheesy carbonara udon, chop chop cone and any of the rolls!

The pork belly appetizer is unbelievably good. The rolls were great too, particularly the lobster California roll. A little bit on the pricier side but well worth it. The restaurant itself is well decorated and very cozy.

Food is good.
Prices are 15-20% above average.
Everything on the menu EXCEPT katsu don is amazing.

We had don buri. It was okay. Waited more than an hr to arrive so most of us lost our appetite. Wonder what it feels like if it is not busy.

I drove from the west end to come try this place out for the first time. Just as I walked in an employee comes straight towards me and tells me to wear a mask. I explained to him that I was under the impression that provincially they were removed and he said city hasn't. I asked if he had one and he said no. I did not leave because I was asked to wear a mask I left because of the unprofessional customer service. As a new customer he simply could have been like welcome how can we help you? If you are able to please where a mask as it is city by law. I would have been totally okay but like a rude approach. I will not come back here and there are many better places with great service and food

The service was amazing although food amount was so small compared to other Japanese restaurants.

Very small portions, smaller then I remember, and quality of the rolls took a hit in quality.fast service, great staff. Will not come back.

Came into town to say hello to a friend and ended up ordering takeout. Showed up after 45 minutes and it wasn't even posted to the kitchen. Server and owner asks what we expect instead of offering what they consider to be customer service. Interesting way to handle these type of situations but hopefully the food will be half decent after waiting another 20 minutes. Edit update. Food turned out to be absolutely phenomenal although I am an impatient guy.

Izakaya has turned into a government facility, the owner specially request that you have your actual ID. A heads up for anyone who's going there.where a photo of your ID doesn't suffice anymore. Especially when I've been there over 50 times. Supporting your local restaurant isn't supporting them anymore I guess. Oh why don't I have my ID? Cause someone stole my wallet. I understand turning away business if you don't have your so called mandated QR code. But the owners specific rule of *mandated physical ID is a complete joke* you lost a loyal client.

Me and my wife went here on our monthsary becuase we like japanese foods a lot!

We suggest you to try the Seafood Fried Rice, I know it may not be a japanese food however the food is very unique!

You guys should try also Crispy Sushi Canape, it says that is has wasabi but it is not spicy and quite juicy than expected!

Tonpei teppanyaki is unexpectedly very good. We always try okonomiyaki but tonpei is really good though. I would say a little bit much better than okonomiyaki since it has less flour and they just use more eggs and there are a lot of ingredients inside as well!

Dashimaki is like a scrambled egg with somewhat a twist in the taste. A must try as well!

Look at the desserts (cream brulee and crispy honey bread!) we have on the pictures! We forgot to take pictures on the foods we had above since the food are very good!

The employees are very accommodating and they gave really nice customer service. Our servers name is Terry and he always asked us how things are going and suggesting us what food we should try.

Now this is the real authentic izakaya restaurant we’ve been in Edmonton! The place looks like those tiny old pubs along a quiet alley in Shinjuku, Japan. The ambience felt like I wasn’t in Edmonton, and really adds to the overall experience of this restaurant! Staff were all professionals, kept our drinking water full and served all our food really fast! We ordered variety of Japanese tapas like beef carpaccio, fried oysters, salmon sushi, tempura udon, beef udon and a cold sake. Everything was great and delicious! Beef carpaccio is best eaten with sake or an ice cold Sapporo/Asahi/Kirin. Fried oysters and salmon sushi tasted fresh and great appetizers before your main meal. We really came here for their hot udon bowls, which were both very sumptuous and easy on your tummy. Their Traditional cold sake adds a kick to your meal and a good companion to a delicious dinner. Coming back here next time we’re in Edmonton!

The attentiveness of the staff, ambience of the venue, and delicious food, made this first time visit extremely satisfactory.

The chef coming to speak with us after we complimented the experience to the server was a pleasant surprise.

The sushi and appetizers were wonderful, but the entrees were all around mediocre. I would recommend just getting more appetizers and sushi than going for an entree.

For the portions, I found it incredibly overpriced. I ordered delivery as I couldn’t venture out and my preferred sushi joint doesn’t do delivery. I ordered the same two rolls I usually do anywhere else, and they came in a tiny container like those ones you get at Safeway. And it was $22 for two very basic rolls. The rolls were half the size of anywhere else, light on the rice and light on the filling.

Great taste and service! Somewhat pricey but as is with most good Japanese restaurants around the city. Worth the price. Easy to order via QR menu. Love that there was an extra table to put empty dishes/ dishes that didn't fit on the actual table on. As tables themselves are not big. Small selection of seating available to dine in. Best to pre-book a table during busy times. Sashimi was fresh and many unique dishes/ sushi combinations.

Amazing sushi my wife and I have been going to Izkaya tomo for many years now. We have tried many different items on the menu rolls maki skewerss shrimp dishes and always great fresh and delicious. Also the customer service is amazing.

We had a sushi/sashimi dinner with sake from Tomoya and it was the best sushi we had for a long while. We asked Tomoya to just give us what is fresh of the day and he put together an amazing dinner with several different sake. One sake is fuzzy like a champagne. We were impressed. We will definitely go back and try some more.

Good service and delicious food with great value! I would recommend the carbonara udon and the deep fried tofu. Crispy Honey Bread is definitely worth it to try. It is airy, crispy and comes with vanilla ice cream. You order on your phone via their website and can choose to pay with CC at the same time of order or in person. They have an extra table next to the seats to place food onto to limit the distance of contact. Best to reserve a table ahead of time.

This is the #1 Big mistake for any type of tempura paired with any soup base noodles, please ask your chef to put them in a separate plate. Salmon sashimi to me is a bit thick, but if it were sliced perfectly it would of melt in my mouth, then I wouldn't mine the thickness

I've never had a bad meal here. The food is excellent and a really great service team. I always recommend this place when people ask where to go for Japanese food.

Best izakaya on the south side of the city, my and fiance and I visited here multiple times and enjoyed all the dishes we ordered.

As always, the quality of the food and service are top notch. Expect a more traditional experience overall, but they will accommodate requests gladly for things (ex: wasabi and pickled ginger before your actual sushi rolls arrive). It is worth trying out new items to discover your new favourite dishes!

Didn’t get a chance to take photos but their food is DA BOMB! Their takoyaki, crispy tuna roll ARE A MUST. Their popular carbonara and beef curry noodles are A-list. Their udon noodles are amazing just melts in your mouth, but not overcooked. We also had mayo mentai kara age and it was great. If I could give it 15/10 def i would! Customer service is also awesome, vibes around the place is surreal.

Great place for a drink and some food. Chicken kaarage was perfectly fried and gyozas were great as well! Carbonara udon was more flavorful than the competition and the ochazuke was definitely a comfort food dish. Will definitely be back!

The service is excellent, food came out promptly and staff was very friendly and welcoming. The choices were amazing. The Chicken Kara Age served spicy was amazing, the skin was so crispy under all of that slightly sweet spicy sauce and topped with thinly slice green onion. I love the butter ponzo sauce with the beef tataki and the Seafood Fried Rice! - Like really? ! That was a revelation. We will most definitely be returning to sample more choices.

Very nice place! Ordered octopus sashimi, eel nigiri sushi, and prawn skewers for kid. All items were yummy! Delicious food! Service is great! Must go place for seafood lover!

Good food and friendly service! Nice atmosphere. It gets busy at times so make a reservation if you think it might be busy. Highly recommend the Tako Yaki and Chop Chop roll.

Currently my favourite Japanese spot in edmonton. Their service and food is incredible. I’m currently obsessed with the spicy chicken Karage, last time we were in we got 3 orders, our friends from out of town went this weekend and before they could even finish it they were ordering more as well. They have a very diverse menu and the pricing for this type of food isn’t ultra expensive like some of the similar restaurants in town. Check them out if you get a chance!

Delicious, creative food, knowledgeable staff. Tapas (small plates) are always fun, though of course it can add up to cost a bit. We went for supper, but apparently they have a different lunch menu available Tuesday-Friday.

Great every time. It's a good blend between the "stupid white people california roll" version of a Japanese restaurant and the proper "we only use high quality ingredients and sell things other than rolls and sashimi" Japanese restaurant. Service is great. The last server we had really knew her stuff and gave some great suggestions for food, sake and beer. Lots of small dishes to choose from as well. I will continue to come here.

This cute little restaurant is a great little gem hidden away. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves good sushi, sashimi, octopus or sake. Recently tried Izakaya Tomo and fell in love. The food was phenomenal, service, staff and drinks were all great. Will definitely be going again!

A very cozy Japanese restaurant which offers a fairly authentic experience. The menu consists of a range of dishes. Seating is adequate for the size of the area.

Very good food. Love the vibes of the restaurant, everything from the wooden tables to the dishware used. Customer service is great. The only thing I would mention is that this place can get busy so a reservation might be recommended.

Amazing Japanese food and drinks that extends beyond the usual scope of ramen or sushi that a lot of Japanese restaurants in town offer. These include favorites as carbonara and donburi and more. An excellent and cozy atmosphere paired with great friendly service and highlighted by an excellently broad sake selection. The excellent sake selection is easy to navigate with their helpful menu and sake sommelier to give you the extra help with your selection if needed. The fried honey bread dessert may have been my favorite dessert I've had in a long time too.

This is a good place for Japanese bar food. The food is very good that it goes well with a pint of Sapporo.

The Chicken Kara Age in hot sauce was the best dish; however, the skewers and the rest of the dishes we ordered is good.

The staff are awesome and friendly. When you entered the tapas bar, the waitresses including kitchen staff will greet you even when you prepare to leave the bar.

The only dish that was disappointing was the Teppan Pork. I was expecting a lot of sauce instead it was just grill pork and vegetables. Probably the picture in the menu gave me an good impression. However that dish doesnt affect the score as everything was good.

I would come back again.

Always SOOO satisfied coming here. Food, atmosphere and service is great! It’s a little expensive so we just come here from time to time:).
