Johnston Canyon

Absolutely stunning and gorgeous vistas from beginning to end! Trail is well maintained and the views are amazing! The road to reach the Canyon parking lot also has beautiful views worth stopping to take pictures. Bathrooms are heated and clean! Please don’t litter and wear proper clothing and shoes according to the weather!

Make sure you go to the upper Falls top viewing platform. Worth the extra walk. Overall a nice easy walk that is worth every step. Go early to miss the crowd.

Beautiful canyon hike with several waterfalls, lots of spots with great views, and washrooms at the bottom. The bottom half is good for introductory hikers. Halfway there is a tunnel to a really cool waterfall. Came back and hiked it again!

Fun scenic hike with pretty waterfall and river views. Very popular with many people along the trail. In the park so a park pass is required.

Beautiful walking/hiking trail. Both the upper and lower falls are worth visiting. We did not visit the ink pots but heard they were beautiful! Restrooms are near the parking area.

Johnston canyon is a place worth the visit. If you opt for the shorter hike, you will get to see the lower waterfall from the cave section. But according to me, the upper falls is much more picturesque! The hike will take a while but it is worth the time. It took us a good 2 hours to go all the way till the upper falls and come back down.

It's not a difficult trail to lower falls.we didn't have much time trek upto the upper falls but we wanted to cover atleast the lower falls, the canyon are really beautiful.we really liked Johnston canyon, its worth your visit.

A stunning natural gem! Very easy walk until the lower falls. Get there very early am, or plan enough time to line up to have a closer view of the lower falls. The hike to the upper falls is easy, but not as accessible as the way to the lower ones. But definitely worth it! It took us 2 hours in total to the upper falls and back, stopping to take pictures, e enjoying the wildlife. We didn't line up for the lower falls.

It was very beautiful but there were some obstacles when walking up such as trees in the way but there was always a way around it. There was a really big line up to go see the waterfalls so I didn't get to see it up close.

Everything was fine with the hike, but it gets to busy and there is people that does not know how to hike …

Beautiful canyon with clear waters and amazing creations of nature. A must visit for sure. The walking path is very narrow in a lot of places and to be honest tbr upper falls isn't worth it if you have to wait in line for 30+mins. Lower falls are definitely prettier and if you have the strength then ink pots are a must.

This is such a beautiful, and easy, hike. Try to go early in the morning and avoid holidays. We came through from a camping trip in Golden BC to show our kids on holiday Monday and we didn't have time sit to wait and see the cave at Lower Falls. Likely an hour wait to walk the bridge and get into the cave area. Also, so many people using this trail there is trash on the path and thrown over the edge of the pathways into the canyon. Would it make sense to have 1 or 2 bear-proof bins to deter tourists from littering? Sad to see.

Great trail with some fabulous views. It's paved - so families with young kids can definitely do it. Even saw some people with kids in strollers. It's a bit elevated in a few regions which might be an issue for people with knee problems

Breathtaking! Go early to avoid the rush if it's a weekend. Ample parking if you get there early.

Paved trail all the way. Very crowded in peak season, but I'm part of the problem. Still gorgeous. The line to see the lower falls cave was so long, I just skipped it.

This place is amazing as always and remains one of my favorites. Unfortunately its beauty is no secret lately, so pack your patience and be prepared to wait in long lines for both waterfalls, especially if you go on a weekend, or long weekend.

A couple of notes to those who go:
1) Yes, the line applies to you too. You don't get to push your way to the front without waiting just because you only want to look. That's what everybody else is waiting for too.

2) Enjoy being present in the moment and take your pictures in order to remind yourself of the experience, not to show everybody how exciting your life is. Think of the people in line behind you before you spend 20 minutes getting the perfect selfie.

Too bust. Beautifully Ink Pott trail but too crowded to enjoy Canadian nature. There are other options

Absolutely beautiful. During the summer months, I wish there was a reservation system in place. This trail gets extremely busy. So if you want the experience to be a bit more peaceful, in the summer I’d recommend going in the early morning or late evening.

Belles cascades mais le site est victime de son succès. Il faut faire la queue pour pouvoir voir la moindre chute d'eau. Il est difficile de se croiser et le sentier, entièrement bétonné perd de son charme par rapport à la nature qui l'entoure.

The falls are really cool and the hike is even better.

Do not skip this natural phenomenon on your trip to banff! This was my favourite hiking experience.

Nice place to visit as part of your trip of Banff national park. A fairly short walk about 1 km to get to the lower side of the water fall. If you want to hike more, then another km to the upper side of the water fall.

Johnston Canyon is a stunning natural wonder. The hike is easy and well-maintained, with walkways along the canyon that take you through lush forests and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The waterfalls are stunning, especially the Lower and Upper Falls.

Une petite balade bien sympa pour aller jusqu’aux chutes supérieures… dommage que ce soit un aller-retour. A cette période de l’année il y a beaucoup de monde, privilégier début ou fin de journée pour mieux en profiter.

Easy trail if you go to the lower one, there are a lot of people, the line in the cave lasts for 30 minutes on weekends around 10-11 in the morning
