After Christmas in Johnston, it was icy and snowy, and it was not easy to walk on the sermon. It was slippery when there was ice, so it was best to wear non-slip shoes with spike hooks on the shoes. The waterfall below is relatively close to the parking lot (it has two parking lots, on both sides of the road). You can see that the outer layer of the waterfall is frozen, but the water inside is still flowing, which is quite strange.

Its one of the must visit place in Banff area. It’s wonderful in all seasons. We went this week in the morning around 8am.
Good to visit early like 7 or 8 so that you will get good parking and no need to wait in lines to visit view points like lower and upper falls.
Entire route is amazing and well maintained.
Dont miss to carry studs, place is very slippery and icy.

Overcrowded, trail full of ppl, ice, slippery, waiting in line to see the small hidden cave. Sad, what is happening to the wonderful places Mother Nature created.

I love hiking Johnston Canyon in the early winter months. On 12/2/23 this year the Lower Falls was all but frozen over already but still beautiful. Highly recommended location.

You will need to wait about 20+ minutes depending on how busy it is to get to the cave-like area that allows you to get somewhat close to the falls.

Very busy paved path to the falls. The damage from humans next to the path is quite extensive. This path sees a million people a year, and if even one in ten thousand step off the path they commit incredible amounts of damage to the wild flora and fauna. Please, please, please stay on the path and do not damage our natural fire retardant (moss) as human damage has already led to many recovery areas and litter. I don't blame parks Canada for this, they're trying not to be the cops, but the reality is that the job of the park is to protect sensitive ecologies and endangered species, and damage from humans going off path will lead to the path being closed. Please hold people accountable who enjoy this beautiful natural wonder, let's remind each other, do not climb the fences, and do not leave the path.

Absolutely beautiful and it’s easy hike in Banff national park. Trail is a bit small only fit for two people to pass by, cave photo shoot line up was a bit crazy at least 30-45mins, we did not want to wait for it coz we have other places want to visit. Overall, great time and maybe come back again for cave photo shoot.
