Cheapest place for grocery shopping in fort mcmurray I’d super store but this is more of an expensive place to shop. I go there if I’m in tel area and need couple of items only. Full grocery shopping is done at super store downtown. Overall It’s a good place if you wanna over pay 2-3 per items.

Bought some beef ribs cut yesterday. They hided a lot of bones behind meats. Sobey's never did like this. This Independent is very tricky.

Prices have gone up and every time I go to find something it's either out of stock or they don't sell it.
Prices again have gone up but they have everywhere. Just coming to add to this review. The store has improved in most ways.

This is probably the worst customer service store in all of fort McMurray. It took the 25 minutes to do a simple price adjustment. The supervisor had no clue and despite the customer service representatives asked her to help them she wouldn't come back. The manager is on an hour long break on a Saturday and there is nobody to take responsibility to fix the issue. Worst experience ever.

Overpriced. Same fruit tray I got at superstore for $15 was $18 at independent. I find this is about the same markup on all goods yet they are the same brand

I really like this location but due to supply limitation I go here as a last resort. I find other stores stocked on produce daily. The pre made dinners are convenient for lunch or dinner obviously.

It’s a great grocery store.always got good deals. Going to hot stove to get some wraps and always get my order messed up.even though i’ve made it very clear how i want my order. It’s just frustrating when i’ve made it clear.

Brought a salad to work with me, opened it and this bug/Beetle thing was crawling around.
The only positive side of this is knowing my salad was not sprayed with a bunch of pesticides. I understand things happen but certainly not impressed.

Great selectionof groceries and ready made lunches with fair prices. Clean store friendly staff.

Conveniently located at timberlea neighborhood. Online shopping and parking pick up option available at this location. Wide variety of fresh warm food and bakery items. Weekends and evenings could be busy. Lots of parking space available. Has a convenient store and liquor store in the premises.

Well organized, clean establishment. Staff is good, but minor customer service problems, could be better improved in that regard.

Customer service was horrible. The 3 women were more interested it talking to themselves than serving customers. Had to explain something three times because they asked/weren't listening.

Great Selection! Prices can be a bit high, compared to other Grocery stores but worth it!

I'm just rating specifically on the Deli, the rest of the store is 4-5 star.
I had to repeat my order 5 times yesterday to the woman there (literally 100g of roast beef and 14 slices of turkey.thats it) and even after that, all of it was completely wrong. Figured if i asked for it to be changed it would have been even more wrong so i left it.
Disappointed.

Not our frequent store.but it's nice to go to as they always have a greater selection of items and some much better priced finds. There seasonal section is also great!

After going to 4 grocery stores looking for a beef tenderloin we finally found one here. It was too big for what we needed so we asked them to cut it in half and they refused because the cutting boards were already cleaned. I began to explain my frustration as we were all over town looking, but still couldn’t get him to budge. I cannot even begin to explain the level of laziness as we were there 2 hours before closing. I have worked in a meat department myself, and I have never refused to cut a piece of meat because the cutting boards were already sanitized. Most definitely will not be returning here.

I shop there every week due to convenience but really if there was another choice close I wouldn't. To start with the parking lot is a muddy slop hole summer or winter. The workers are all people with poor skills and poor use of the english language. The shelves are always poorly stocked. The management is to blame for this as they hire the staff and order the goods. Today the item I couldn't get was bottled water, not a single bottle of water in the entire store! I drove to another grocery store in a different area of town and bought my water there.

Prices are pretty high. Staff at customer service spend more time chatting with each other than interacting with customers
You have to interrupt their chatting if you have a question. They don't allow for social distancing either. They have 2 customers at a time. Side by side and less than a foot apart.

Great deals on precooked chicken / wings / strips
Bang for the buck you get a lot more for 30 dollars then what you would get at KFC.

Food quality is great. The prices are a little higher than superstore but this is a smaller chain. The quality of food provided is a bit higher too.

They have a wide variety of necessities needed for groceries. But at times, their prices do seem high since Superstore sells things at a cheaper price. But Independent is still a great grocery store, especially after the renovation they did.

Came here multiple times and when I needed assistance, the cashier showed me nothing but disrespect. I will pass this message along to my family and friends and warn them of the terrible customer service that awaits them.

This is going to be a sad review from a customer who comes here every week and spend hundreds of groceries a week. Today, I had this cashier who I think don’t give a care in the world about the customer as long as she scan the products and got the money. I think she don’t know how to say hi or hello, did not bagged my dish washing liquid, cleaning products separately. I’m only asking for a cheap clear plastic bag here for food safety purposes specially I have to put them in the same grocery bag with the rest of the groceries. I paid almost 300 today and I feel like I had to hurry bagging my groceries because the next customer is waiting and standing there for me to get all my groceries off the belt. The tall skinny long hair cashier didn’t even bother offering help to bag the groceries, instead she just stood there looking at the other cashier.so, there is your customer service lady!

Do not have a job, I do not have parents, I am a philanthropist in Afghanistan, can someone help me to come there, please?



Better than Save on Foods but I'm not sure if its better than Superstore, a salad kit I normally get at Superstore for 8$ was 9$ and was out of stock. A lot of Really tasty looking ready made meals for a reasonable price.

It seems to be stocked and if I ask someone where something is they do seem to know or they will let you know as soon as they find out

If you have a party night this cheese tray could be a good help.good presentation and also good selection.may be look like a little bit expensive but still a good price when you compare with other stores.

I wanted to love this store but it's constantly running out of products. I mean, even pc brand items can be missing for weeks. I get we live a distance from the city but they've missed out on thousands of dollars worth of sales from us because of missing items. Also another reason why I shop online now for certain things.

The chicken here is cheaper than the chicken at Sobeys in Calgary for Boneless skinless chicken thighs. The wing deals here are also very good. Very clean store, everything well laid out. Is my go to grocer in Fort McMurray, have been to multiple save on foods, Safeway and sobeys, this is my go to out of all of them.

Great store since they took over from Extra foods. I'm teirably saddened to hear of the accident that took the owner "Michelle's" life as she was a strong community supporter. I strongly recommend shopping here.

This is one of the top 3 grocers in the city (other 2 being Safeway and Sobeys in thick wood), the produce is always fresh with a decent enough selection, they try to pack the store with as many bulk offers as possible so you don't always need to go to superstore, the sales are frequent and worthwhile. And the staff here are always looking to help you unlike other stores where they run away. The hours of operation are unrivalled and are perfect

Good store but the parking lots is overcrowded and half of it is taken up with the garden area, why not move that where less people would park?

I am a frequent shopper of Superstore but live close to The Independent store. They have everything a shopper would need to buy off their list so I go here frequently plus it is convenient; however, you will notice the difference in price as compared to Superstore. Other than that, customer service and produce are great!
