J's Wok N Grill

When most truck stops offer chain restaurants or fast food options for meals, we enjoy dining at J's Work and Grill. On this trip we ate lunch twice. Our first meal we went with the double burger with cheese, ham, mushrooms and a thousand island dressing. Excellent burger. For the price, I think it was a good value. Just sad that the Vietnamese food options aren't available on the weekend. But that just means that we'll have to be back during the week. Keep up the great work.

As a truck driver the road king is my home j's wok and grill has Always been kind and efficient when I eat there

Since the owners have a hard time understanding their customer complaints while constantly requesting clarification and following up with condescending remarks as well as insults, I will be perfectly clear with my review.

This restaurant is Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmare level bad!
This is the worst review I have ever left in over 6 years.

Parking was confusing and the entrance to the restaurant was not clearly marked with too many signs and no clarity for the actual restaurant.

Our server, the Co-owner (Ken?) said that the portions were 'trucker-sized' and that was utterly false.
The Shrimp Chop Suey was actually Shrimp and Broccoli which arrived with - let me be absolutely clear - rotten broccoli!
It was not wilted, yellow or some other excuse - it was ROTTEN!
One could actually smell how bad it was on the plate.
The shrimp was cooked properly, which is poor consolation on the way to Emerg with potential food poisoning or even death.
The meal was replaced at no charge for the Classic Breakfast which was prepared well except, for the plate-sized pancake.
All that could be tasted was a mouthful of oil.
The flapjack crumpled and separated like a pita bread.
It broke apart in the middle as it was improperly cooked (and being in the food service industry for over a 2 decades), it appeared to be prepared on a grill that was not up to temp.
My so-called Special Fried Rice was barely lukewarm and Ken agreed after I asked him to feel the plate and have a taste.
He returned with a story about putting in back on the wok, however, the same spoonful I had taken my first bite before sending it back was in the exact same spot along with the pepper I had used.
Being lied to is insulting as this dish was merely put into the microwave and unprofessionally reheated.
The rice tasted like it was made with instant rice totally broken and crumbly.
The chicken, beef and pork were all dried out and I would suggest it was sitting in a giant pot or chafing dish waiting to be scooped out for the next customer as nothing was fresh at all.
Hardly the quality of a dish charging $18.85!
Ken asked if everything was okay and I accepted the rice as they were closing soon and I was too hungry to go elsewhere or argue anymore.
No amount of soy sauce revive this ultrabland dish resulting in 3 out of 3 food dish failures.

We had to move to another booth to actually see as a light above our table was burned out.
The atmosphere was dark and dingy rather than the bright and exciting atmosphere I had come to expect from 5-10 years ago when we lived in Dover and would come at least once a week as a family. We would constantly be inviting friends and extended family to dine here. Now I won't even bother stopping as rotten, uncooked, ill-prepared food is the norm.
Though Ken was cheerful, he was embarrassingly slow to look after us with only 2 other tables arriving after us.
I used to defend the restaurant when people called it 'The Road Kill', unfortunately, J's Wok N Grill is an embodiment of this name. This is extremely disappointing and I would not be surprised at all if the health inspector visited them shortly.

To clarify, slow service, dingly dark atmosphere, ill-prepared food - both uncooked and rotten - overpriced food and inadequate portions are all the reasons that I will not be returning to J's Wok N Grill inside the Road King Truck Stop nor recommending it to anyone. I made it clear upon paying the bill that I would not be leaving a tip.

The best thing that could happen to the Wok N Grill would be to be shut down by the health department, all the kitchen staff fired and retrained. Once they pass the provincial safety standards certifications, hire professional qualified staff and servers, then maybe they could reopen with the help of a restaurant designer.

I would highly recommend not going to J's Wok N Grill inside the Road King Truck Stop at all costs.

First ordered the shrimp chop suey and the broccoli was yellow and mushy. They offered me a second order so I ordered the pancakes eggs bacon and ham
The got eggs done how I like with out asking ham and bacon were ok yet the pancakes tasted like oil came apart. I appreciate they didn’t charge me for my meals being I ate at home in the end. Save yourself the trouble

Yuck. The Chinese food was awful chicken balls so full of oil weird texture ginger beef mostly stale breading and the worst of all fried rice i’ve had better that was sitting in my fridge for seven days.every component literally worst I’ve ever had. I’ve had Chinese food from hundreds of places usually I go for the cheapest $10-$15 but this place was $20 and portion was so small and I couldn’t even finish half of it yuk yuk yuk. I literally wouldn’t be surprised if this was days old leftover buffet food found in dumpsters.

Wow, surprise.l'une des meilleure soupe Pho que j'ai mangé! Vraiment très agréable d'avoir un resto comme ça dans un truck stop.

The wor wonton soup was the best I ever had.
The value for my money was worth the visit.

Nothing special going on here, food is what you expect from a 3rd rate truckstop.
If you held up the bacon or toast to the light you could see right through it and service and staff friendliness are lacking.

So the first time I came here it was pretty decent and the staff was wonderful! The second time on the other hand I was beyond disappointed. My food was cold. The first waitress we had was okay but laughed at me for something I ordered. I have a major problem with this.personally I have an eating disorder and just eating is hard for me but then to have someone laugh at me made it even worse.not exactly good for buisness. The second waiter I have no words for. I was at this restaurant with 3 other people. Once we were finished with our meal we had asked for a box. Once she came back with the box, NOT ONLY did she give us major attitude for asking for a box but she then SHOOK THE BOX IN OUR FACES for us to take it when there was a open space for her to place it. This I found very disrespectful especially after we were very kind to her and didn't cause any issues. Honestly I will probably never ever come here again and there is much better options for places to eat.

Arrived one hour before closing couldn’t order anything on the menu except Chinese food took almost half an hour noodles were just warm deep fried was so fried was crunchy would not recommend

Absolutely all around pleasant people & food where I had the pleasure of meeting Margaret & Ann. I Ordered off of the very large selection menu an order of Salt & Pepper Shrimp & some Chicken ball's which were amazing!

Tracy was awesome waitress. Always asking if everything was OK. The combo plate I ordered was perfect. Came out piping hot

My man Rob has been eating here at least 4 times per week for 5 years. Rob is very easy going, he NEVER complains- not once in 5 years. He's kind, gentle and very easy to please.
Tonight they served us a meal that was inedible and withheld the included desert. We complained. They discounted the meal $4.

That was it. They let Rob pay $40.40 for an inedible meal, no desert and 2 drinks. After Rob left I pointed out to the owner how poorly they had treated their loyal customer and gave them a chance to correct. They didn't.

I know times during covid are tough but I was extremely disappointed to see how they treated Rob who has been loyal for years. Rob has agreed we will not eat here anymore.

First time here. I do not come to Calgary much and found this truck stop on trucker path app. Had wanton soup and spring rolls. Thought the food was great and server was polite and made sure i had everything i needed. Thank you Mary, next time i am in Calgary i will stop in for a meal!

I had the best supper I ever had here in 19 years, very hot and delicious, the cook was Elma did a awesome job and the service by Mary was great as always

In Calgary Alberta for a good breakfast and a friendly face and for a trucker a good place for a reset with everything at the Road King including a great bar with entertainment and VLTs

Will never visit here again, uncooked rice and not even single piece of chicken in chicken rice, and the way they treat me like was disturbing!

Bought a burger and fries and the burger had some long strongly thing in it that shouldn't be in a burger you couldn't even bite through it I will never buy anything frikn that restaurant again disgusting food

Excellent quality of food. Staff was polite and friendly. The Bar is separated from the restaurant. The tables where clean and up to covid standards. Open concept pool room is great for a small party.

Totally disregarded public safety by staying open during a pandemic despite public health orders. Definitely a place to be avoided.

On point every time! Mary is the server there, she is absolutely amazing! My new everyday spot.

815 PM and it’s closed. I’ll be sure to let my trucker friends to go elsewhere.drive all day and park looking forward to a hot meal and nothing. I’ll make sure to avoid the roadking brand any time I’m in calgary.

Stale /old oil and butter in bread tasted funny
The oil on the potatoes tasted old and stale. We did not eat them.

First time I came it was good hard to give a comment because the pub and resteraunt are like together so the wings are probably the best I've ever had so crispy and moist on the inside and the lady was awsome in the resteraunt however the lady bartender did not really acknowledge us and there was 5 people in the pub side and still had to wait forever for another drink and to order anything I will be back because the food rocks and they have alot of vlts just hoping the service improves greatly

Excellent food, reasonable prices, and prompt service. This is what a truck-stop restaurant should be.

Hands down the food is so good. I enjoy the Black bean hot plate. The best chicken fried rice I've had in years. Diane is my absolute favorite bartender, we always come back to visit her.

Low grade food served by inadequate staff managed by hillbillies. In your retort you left out the blatant ignoring of labor laws. Punish the offenders, not the messenger. They make their waitstaff pay when the customer is dissatisfied. Cowardly but not unexpected from greedy people.

There was 3 people in the restaurant and it took 15 minutes to get drinks.

The new management is really great and the quality of food has really improved. I enjoy the daily specials and pool area that the new managers have put into the place.

Usually good but why say open till 10 but half the menu stops at 8 and then get a shit look when I decise to go elsewhere because I can't order what they have on the menu. It to mention sitting in the restaurant side for 15 minutes without even being offered something to drink.
So go there during the day but don't count on anything later in the evening. Will be going to Blackfoot since they are 24 hrs and for normal food a lot better.

As per picture you see sign, but sit in the restaurant for 9: 15 to 9: 30 seeing no one and when you have to hunt them down they think its only chinese food from the menu that's being served as all other stuff stopped at 8.

The food is ok, soup could be hotter no just kinda hot flavor was good taught.

Came in today and the food is much better, I really enjoyed!
