A wonderful mexican restaurant. The restaurant is quite large, so lots of seating. Food was fanstatic and large portions. Service was fast and friendly.
All of the staff are lovely, the food and drinks are reasonably priced and there are often deals going on. The decoration and music really add to the fun, playful ambiance of this restaurant.
Great food, had the chips and salsa sampler, excellent regular salsa, son loved the chipotle salsa, had the beef enchiladas - very good - and the Deep fried ice cream was amazing - the only reason I marked it at 4star is that it can be very loud as it’s a restaurant / bar - so if you go with a family it can be loud, we went twice to this restaurant - the first time we left as it was really busy and loud - the second time we went and it was less busy and pretty chill which was great - so if you go and want quiet try and choose a less busy time - it’s very good food
Our server Sydney was not very good at her job…we were brought our food and had to seek her for like 5 mins because she forgot to bring us utensils, it was also very hard to slow her down to ask for water and she seemed very annoyed doing so and only filled them up halfway. Other stuff that would just make this review too long. Overall, food is great but Sydney is not a very good server
Young, 18 and with out any boundaries I would’ve thought that this was good. Unfortunately it doesn’t hold a torch to a Tex Mex or anything else Southeast of Houston, the menu is augmented within its self, in the manner that it will all taste like old frying oil and sad line cooks. If ya wannabe hip go for drinks if wannabe fed avoid with all precautions!
Had the Baja Fish Tacos. Tacos were great and ambiance was lively— definitely have to speak louder if you want your company to hear you. Service was not the best. Had to wave down the server to order and for the bill.
Of course the iconic place of Edmonton Famous for the surprise visit of Brad Pitt (Which I hope he comes again to this spot) and the al line famous bulldog drink. If you haven't come here yet and you live in the area, ya either need to wake up from your boring life or pretend to have a midlife crisis and just come here.
Would highly recommend the nachos along with the other million of people in Edmonton who have come here and definitely try the Bulldog drink of course or my personal favorite "The Bloodhound"
Servers are very professional and have a little pep in their step. Awesome ground. The best restaurant in Edmonton. Period.
Also a great spot for people watching. And I know you people know exactly what I mean.
Great food, excellent ambience, awesome margaritas and a decent choice for vegetarians. The service could have been better! Else would have been 5 stars for sure!
My wife has lived here for almost 15 years and she's never been here before. We decided to go on an impromptu dinner date night and decided on Julios. We ate at the bar, sampled some shots and enjoyed the deep fried ice cream. The bartender, whom we should have gotten his name, was awesome! Excellent service and great to chat with. Will definitely be back.
Even on Sundays, you need to wait about 40 minutes to sit! It has nice and warming staff and the decoration is awesome. I don't like spicy food, but still it was possible to handle it here! Try Taco Salad with chicken, much better than beef here!
Love the salsa here, the nachos are great too. The tacos are just ok. The music is hella loud though and just gets louder. The chairs are super awkward.
Always one of my favorite places to go, I love the drinks and food. Get me a bulldog! Also love the fact that musician Lights loves this place haha! I always look forward to coming here!
Patio weather, no masks.life is good! Mango marguerita might be one of my new favorites! Homemade chips & guacamole are exceptional, friendly service. Love this place.
Needed a quick and family friendly place to eat, this is a nice and clean little restraunt. Food was very tasty and nice size portions, staff are friendly a little slow on service but not horrible. Prices where fair. Would eat here again.
Come on Edmonton, we’re allowed to ask for better. I ordered a burrito and I genuinely couldn’t get past 2 bites. Even the chips and salsa were awful! THE CHIPS! I can see the allure of hitting the patio with your friends but there’s options people.
Came here for my birthday and had a great time! Bulldog margaritas are good, and the deep fried ice cream is literally to die for! Especially love the nachos and fajitas:)
Amazing food, and the most amazing caring staff. They corrected my allergy order immediately and provided the most amazing service around this. I have never in my entire life witnessed staff care so much about their job and customers. I usually don't feel safe eating at many places with my allergy, but I can guarantee with how professional, and caring this establishment is.that this will be one of my new go to spots. I wish I got the names of the two people I had the privilege of dealing with today, because this spot is the luckiest place in Edmonton to have them employeed here.
Wife found her food bland. They now charge for chips and salsa. They used to bring as included starter and use covid as an excuse. If it was a covid issue I would not be able to order them at all. My wife ordered some Penn pasta. I ordered the fajitas and got what tasted like boiled onions and Peppers. The shrimp was shelled. 1 bite and left. Who the hell uses shelled shrimp fajitas. Won't be back
Amazing food! Staff could be a bit friendlier. Extremely sad they now charge for the chips and salsa they usually give out, using Covid as an excuse is shady.
The host Lauren was so friendly and got us in so promptly. We were immediately impressed with the service. It was a Saturday and busy and she prioritized guests so well. Our server Lauren was so kind, got us our first round before last call so we could have a second round, and managed to be so personable with us. She made it us feel so welcome. The drinks were also colourful and fantastic. After being away for almost a year, this experience reminded why Julios Barrio is such a staple on Whyte ave and why I always recommend it to friends!
Some of the Best Tacos around.and a Great atmosphere also I tried a Ice cream desert and it was Huge! Very good service, Staff are very friendly! Highly recommend trying out.
The food was good and the server we had was very nice but this lady at the front was very rude, I tried explaining that I left my salsa I had paid for, the big take home portion and when I explained that she was very judgemental. She looked at me like I was waisting everyones time and I wouldn't have cared if it I hadn't paid for it. When she finally got the salsa it was the tiny little plastic container, so I spent how ever much it was for about less then 50 ml:/ I'm a little disappointed.
I have always loved the food and service here until the other day when they opened for indoor dining again. I have a medical mask exemption, was seated and served by the staff nicely until I got up to use the washroom. I was stopped by a server to which I simply replied I have a mask exemptions and kept walking. On my return from the washroom the manager came up to me and got right up in my face (breaking social distancing rules) to tell me that masks are mandatory even if I have an exemption and that if I choose to come again I will need a mask or won't be allowed in. He also did this loud enough that the majority of the restaurant could hear. I will not be returning here ever again! Very disappointed as I've always loved going here. But I refuse to support a business that would treat a customer in this way.
I like Julio's Barrio! It's fun, the drinks are great, awesome atmosphere
Unfortunately, we received some pretty abysmal service when we went. I wanted to give less stars but I'll be fair and say that that was hopefully not characteristic of this establishment.
Amazing place with super tasty food (big portions), great drinks, friendly stuff, unbelievable atmosphere with current Latino music in the background. I'll be back!
The nacho platter is a delight, coming with more toppings than chips so you need to crack open your fork and knife set or get your scooping fingers into the last remnants. I only wish it always came with guacamole as a standard not an add on. Coming here on the weekend for drinks is definitely a little more on the pricey side but we thought it was going to be a full place and difficult to find seating but for a rather large group of us, 6 and a baby, there were still plenty of seating options. It is a bit dark but it just adds a to the vibe of the space.
Chips and salsa are out of this world! Chips are nice and salty so good to wash down with one of their excellent adult beverages. Tried the queso which was very good as well. Had the shrimp taquitos and found them very greasy however. Will probably stay away from them next time, may have been an off day, but will try something different! Staff very friendly and patio is very nice!
The real OG's of patio season. Transport yourself to the heart of Mexico with this beauty of a restaurant and lounge. Bulldogs are the way to go. I don't care if 'they're not your favorite', its summer, relax, have a sip. BOOM, you are well on your way to a mucho beuno experience.
No one makes a Bulldog like Julio's. Sit at the bar and chat with the friendliest bartenders in Edmonton. Fun food and a very friendly atmosphere, Whyte Avenue at its best.
I would normally have given 5 stars but this past Saturday the hostess ruined that. I came into town fr SK and we went to go to your establishment as per usual. There was no line up, there were empty tables inside and out but yet we were told we would have to wait an hour. There were 2 ladies that walked in right before us that asked for a table outside and they were lead right in. The hostess did not offer another table inside to wait, she did not apologize etc. Very very disappointed
A little over priced for what you get in terms of drink. Regardless, having a bulldog on the patio and watching the pedestrians pass by made for an amazing afternoon. If you get one of the daily drink specials, the price point is more reasonable. The food looks good if you're a meat eater/fan of nachos, but I'm a fan of bulldogs so I had a few of those. My seat on the patio was a bit wobbly, the music was at times too loud even on the patio, but all things considered, I really enjoyed Julio's and look forward to going back.
Taco Salad gross. Soaked down salad and spicy to the point of burning my lips, yet not tasty. Just hot. The other meals at the table were tasteless and chicken was dry. When asked to talk to the Manager (blonde lady) she acted like she was offended and basically told me that the salad has no spice on it. She was not good at customer relations. She must not like dealing with food complaints because the server had to ask her twice to come to the table. A nice attitude from the Manager would have avoided this review. But she deserves a 2 because I don’t think she will use the constructive criticism to make this restaurant better.
I don’t usually complain about things or write reviews because I understand customer service is rough, but being a server myself, it was a bit much to wait half an hour for anyone to come talk to me while waiting for friends when every other restaurant I’ve been to will offer drinks while waiting. The server was extremely nice, but I feel like he was new and that’s why the service was slower. My friends and I went for taco tuesday tonight, were told by the server it was taco tuesday, and all proceeded to order tacos. At the end when we asked for the bills, we were all charged full price and told by the server that we didn’t specify we wanted the taco deal.it’s taco tuesday, so we assumed we would automatically be getting the deal. I didn’t say anything in the moment because I felt bad because the server seemed so stressed, but I went expecting to spend around $15 and ended up with a bill that was $27. This was my first time ever going to Julio’s so I don’t know if this is a normal experience, but I feel pretty let down.
Decent moderately priced, non-chain mexican food/bar. Has sombreros as well. Julio's or El Cortez should be your top choices for mexican near whyte ave.
The food was delicious. Mexican style with a large variety of Mexican dishes and Mexican beverages like Margaritas and others. Apparently Brad Pitt ate at the location on Whyte Ave so I can now say I ate where the stars ate.
I have yet to be disappointed by Julio's. The menu is pretty diverse and the drink menu is the same. Servers and staff are really personable for the most part and the overall ambiance is fun and upbeat. We regularly do functions here such as staff get togethers or birthday parties. In the warmer months it has one of the better patios although it's size is restricted a bit but that's ok.
