Kal Tire

Used this shop’s services numerous times. But what shows the level of the personnel’s commitment is their actions when things go south. There was a hiccup with the way my tires were installed on rims. It wasn’t front desk personnel’s fault, but Ray and Rob ordered the right tire, made sure the work was redone properly, and, after a bit of waiting, I left satisfied and feeling myself a valued customer. It’s a rare feat this days.
I would like to personally thank Ray as he, while always sticking to the point, still keeps a personal touch when interacting with customers; and always follows through.
It’s easy to sell goods. It’s way harder to create a positive customer experience. Team at Shawnessy does just that. And has been doing it for me every time. Thanks team at Shawnessy!

I got an appointment the next business day for a brake package and the work was done in only a couple of hours at a great price. They do a good job, but when it comes to getting air pressure check, it's usually a 30min wait. Today I had to leave without getting one because I had an appointment and waited a bit longer than half an hour.

This place is a joke. Went there once for a repair and all they tried to do was sell me new tires. My son went there today with 6-month old tires for a repair and it took them 2-hours to tell us that they think the tread depth is too low for them to repair it and the tires are practically brand new. I would never send anyone to Kal Tire.

(i know absolutely nothing about cars) I got a flat and needed a tire similar to my other 3 tires (they are an uncommon brand) I called kal tire and they said they didn’t have my tire but they probably had pretty similar ones and recommended I come in and talk to someone. I got there at about 12: 30 and they took a look at my wheels and explained a lot to me because of my lack of knowledge. They checked if they had a similar tire in stock but they did not. However, Ray said he could order one and have it there by 4pm the same day and it was less expensive then the other. He booked me in at 4 for a balancing and installation.i got there at 4 and was served right away and was told it would be 60-90 minutes. I waited in their comfy chairs and was given updates about my car. It was finished in 45 minutes and Ray helped me save almost $50 where as I thought they were going to take advantage of someone who knew nothing about vehicles. Phenomenal service from all staff. Fast. Affordable. Knowledgeable.

Do not take your vehicle here. They practice unethical, shoddy business practices. They will cost you money, and their "mechanics" are amateurs with less education than a high school MVR student.

Quoted me $1100 for a $400 job, misdiagnosed my issue (stated that I needed a control arm when all I had was a bent inner tire rod), and held my vehicle for an unnecessary amount of time, costing me two days of valuable wages as I am unable to work without my vehicle. The control arm was absolutely fine, in the end. Must have been a slow day in the shop for them.

Never again will I support this business, and my experience at multiple Kal Tires leads me to believe this is a franchise-wide issue.

I took my vehicle to Precision Alignment in the NE, and am grateful that I finally have a mechanic I can trust. I got premium parts, a perfect alignment, expert service, and peace of mind for a fraction of this scam centre.

Huge rave to the crew at Kal Tire! Not only were they able to get me in earlier than my scheduled appointment, one of the techs noticed some recent brake work was done incorrectly and I was able to address it right away! Appreciate the good work! Thank you

Being a teenage girl who is helpless with anything vehicle related, when I realized my tire was loosing air at an immense rate, I drove to the nearest tire place that was open. Ray had no hesitation to help me, coming outside, listening to my tire, and getting me in as soon as possible. Once they found the screw that was making my tire leak, Ray came and showed me, explaining what they needed to do, constantly asking if I had any questions. He showed me exactly what they were doing to my tire (with visual explanations) and really made me feel cared for. I have been treated extremely unfairly due to my age and gender at mechanic shops before, but this is one place I feel that I can trust. Thank you guys! I will definitely be back!

Came to this location 2 times and overall terrible wait times. With an appointment booked both days it took 2-3 hrs per appointment. 3 sensors were working perfectly before bringing the car in and no warnings were showing on the dashboard as far as tire pressure. 1 sensor was damaged due to driving on a flat for about 500m and only 1 that had to be replaced. Techs started replacing tires and then I was advised that “2 more sensors were faulty” and not because of any cause of Kal Tire, as I was rudely told. I am without a doubt certain the sensors were working fine as there was no prior issue prior to the flat on 1 tire. This location is terrible and will go as far as to state dishonest (the manager Dan at this location not at all as friendly nor trustworthy in my opinion) and do not recommend their workmanship to anyone. In the end Dan offered to try and rectify the situation after I reiterated multiple times as things had escalated and he realized that my original Kal Tire location that I called offered to repair what was surely damaged (or did whatever they did to create this problem) by Kal Tire Shawnessy. He discounted the original sensor however I refused to have anymore work done there even for free as integrity and customer service mean everything, due to his initial defensive stance of “we did nothing, we never broke anything” then shifting to I can help fix it; this was by far 0 customer service and night and day difference with the Kal Tire I normally deal with (were fully booked and why I went elsewhere). Kal Tire Shawnessy will not be recommended to any friends or colleagues; even with 2 separate appointments that were not walk-ins are on average 2-3 hours.

Update from Dec. 7 2022

Went to my regular Kal Tire location on MacLeod and Southland:

They replaced a faulty core that leads to a slow leak that Shawnessy never did even when told to inspect this.

The sensors that Shawnessy claimed were broken and needed replacement were not but in fact only had to be reprogrammed (as they removed them on tire change).

Summary

The Shawnessy location is not a reliable or trustworthy location or perhaps related to who is the onsite manager on that day.

Good experience and Kal's tire. The first day my tire wasn't delivered, but they apologized and promised to make it up. Next day I got the call and came in for my tire replacements, they price-matched what I had got from Costco, and also gave my AMA discount. They also had better delivery for the tires which was why I went with them in the first place. Overall, very good service.

Went for the first time today after a minor accident which needed changing the tires. One tire got damaged. Needed replacement of all four (my vehicle is a AWD), realignment etc. Very good support & service.

I don’t know much things about tires but Matthew was so informative and told me everything I needed to know and things I would need to change before the winter. He noticed that needed new wheels installed since mine was bald. He informed me that that was unsafe because it would be difficult for the car stop because the wheels don’t have the spikes. Overall amazing amazing service from everywhere but mostly Matthew! I’ll definitely be coming back! Love the positive vibes that I got from this place!

I do not recommend coming to this shop for service. First they refused to fix a tire by lieing to me. Their make work program does not work with everyone. I recommend choosing another place.

I had a slow tire leak, and I went to Kal tire for the first time.   Assistant Manager, Ray greeted me, and he was extremely nice. This is one of the best services received and he provided optimum customer service and provided updates on service job. I will go there again for future maintenance.

Service advisor (Ray) did a great job in reviewing the inspection results and answering the questions that I had. The shop technicians worked efficiently in performing the re-balancing of the wheels.

Very happy over the years with the tires, free tire rotations, free air, and more recently the wheel alignment and brake job all done with friendly, professional service. Ray has gone above and beyond. I recommend Kal Tire Shawnessy.

Brought car in for wheel alignment (about 30 - 60 minute job), was told it would be 90 minutes which sounds fair. Would also point out they got my name wrong on appointment. 40 minutes later they called to say I needed new tire rod and sway bar link. ALL of my tire rods were replaced new 10 days ago, which is why I need the wheel alignment - other place couldn't do it. AND sway bars aren't critical and have been removed entirely from my car as opposed to "bad condition" they described them as. I typically hate garages for trying to gauge and lie and these guys are tops in that department, thinking they can scam me into paying them to replace a 10 day old part. Guess I know why they had cheapest rate, they thought they'd screw me on back end. Their 90 minute estimate, also a lie. At 50 minutes after drop off my car was back in their parking lot. At 90 minutes no work started or phone call to say so, they took over 10 minutes to even FIND my car or keys or know anything about it being there. Assistant Mg Ray did come to speak with me and had understanding of customer service, he gets good review, overall experience has been abysmal. If anything better happens I will change this review.

My boyfriend brought my tire in for a nail in it. They refused to fix it and even went as far to remove the tire partially off the rim so it couldn’t be put back on, told us my tires had been discontinued and I would have to buy all new tires…
I took it to another shop, where they were confused as to why they “couldn’t” repair it, fixed it for me, and saved me hundreds of dollars. I’ve had not great experiences with Kal Tire in the past, but this one solidified that I will not be returning to any of their shops for future business.

I wanted to thank all the staff, front line and back for helping me with my flat tire. I came in last friday with an urgency, and the Manager, Ray did all that he could to have my spare tire in even with such a busy schedule. Thank you very much for considering my situation!

There is something to be said about Ray B.and this establishment. When against all odds, this gentleman went above and beyond to make sure that I was well looked after. I have been servicing both of my vehicles at this location for several years and will continue to do so because the service is always wonderful. Even when things are going sideways, Ray pulls his team together and gets things done. I am so impressed with his professionalism, leadership and commitment to the customer experience.

I bought new tires for my Wrangler, a suggested brand by Kal and am extremely pleased. I had a TPMS light on and couldn't get it reset. A young lady, Bethany pumped up all of the tires, reset each tire sensor and the on board computer and success. Very cordial, polite, and friendly service plus getting the job done. I noticed interaction between the manager and several customers while waiting and this guy is a man any company would die to have work for them. I don't know if it is the owner but extremely knowledgeable, friendly and informative to everyone. It rubs off on the rest of the staff as Bethany was excellent. Highly recommend.

I went to Costco to buy tires, but Costco doesn’t do alignments. I went to Kal Tire in Shawnessy, and Ray (Bayari) not only matched Costco’s price, but showed the advantages of buying from Kal Tire. (free lifetime balancing, free flat repairs, free tire rotation, etc.) Also, when we picked up the vehicle, he showed us a report on brake wear, front end wear inspection (and found both front wheel bearings should be rechecked at 10,000 km tire rotation as they are showing a little play), and that our old tires were showing even wear, so we did not even need an alignment. Rays professionalism showed right from the start, and all this while he was multitasking several other things. Highly recommend!

Ray the manager goes above and beyond to make his customers happy. I needed new tires and everywhere else was quoting a week out. Ray got me the tires the same day and booked me in the next day. He is awesome!

Ray is an excellent manager at this location. He is extremely understanding and accommodating. As a student impacted by the pandemic on a very tight budget, Ray worked with me to get the necessary work on my vehicle completed. Ray was conscience of my financial situation and honest about the health of my vehicle. I appreciate his help and the help of his team to keep me in safe in my vehicle.

Took my silverado in for 2 new tires, they broke a bunch of the plastic lugs that hold the hub covers on. They also forgot to give me back my locking lug nut key. Unfriendly service as well.

Not what they used to be. Tires had bead sealer all over them and the rim, at least one valve is different, three different types of caps including a mix between green and black (they don't do notrogen at this location). Lastly and most importantly on perfect condition OEM rims they used clamp weights on the inside and thus ruined/damaged the rim instead of using glue on weights throughout. For a place that claims to be professional and knowing what they are doing they certainly are proving otherwise. Used to love kaltire but this is truly just the same as going to Canadian Tire and having some kids do it.

Update. Kaltire did reach out after my initial one star review. I have to give credit that they asked me to come back in and addressed the issues, thus upgrading the rating. Appreciated the follow up from Ray the manager personally working with me to help. Hoping that there is no marking from the clamp weights, they were at least alluminum so hopefully not. I won't find that out until summer is over when I swap back to winters. Appreciated the gesture from Ray/Kaltire

I was having a bad day after leaving home at -25C in the morning. The las straw was my tire pressure light popped up on the dash. It was near closing time when I arrived at Shawnessey Kal Tire. My angel in the form of (assistant?) manager Ray instructed me to drive to a bay and immediately came out to check and fix the tire pressure for me. It may be a small thing for most people. But for a senior with arthritis on a cold day, its a big deal. Thanks Ray, much appreciated.

Good service but definitely don't make plans to wait inside while your work is done, only four seats for customers to wait, two of which aren't socially distanced.

The Shawnessy location is great. I was greeted quickly, had my car checked in within minutes for a season tire swap, and they were done in under an hour! I would always recommend booking an appointment to save you time and hassle. Come prepared with your lug nut lock if you have one as well. I’ll be back there again soon!

Honestly, the best car maintenance experience I've ever had. This is the first time I've left after getting my car serviced not feeling totally patronized and screwed over!
Not only were the people extremely nice, the service was quick, they didn't over charge me, and they told me of the work that didn't need to be done and didn't charge me for it, even after looking into it! I don't know about you but this has NEVER happened to me before! I generally always leave paying 2x more than quoted because of "things" they "find". So I was completely shocked to see the bill was actually lower than I was anticipating. In fact, they fixed an issue that the dealership had not dealt with (for over 10 years) for no extra charge.
The manager Ray is extremely nice, and their customer service is amazing! This was the first time I brought my car somewhere other than the dealership, and I will be bringing both my cars there for all their services in the future. I cannot recommend them enough!

I visited the Kal Tire shop at the Shawnessy location twice in the last month.
The first time I received excellent and fast costumer service from Dacota. Next day I called the shop manager Dan to give a positive feedback about my experience.
The second time I needed new tires. For days Ray went out of his way to find the best deal for us and to answer all of our questions with great patience. Today our tires were installed promptly. I am very impressed with my experiences at this Kal Tire shop and the exceptional costumer service by Ray.

Came in this morning to have my winter tires balanced. Everyone was so kind and helpful. Wonderful customer service. Highly recommend this location.

Had an appointment booked at 3pm at the Shawnessy SW location for them to redo a front end alignment that wasn't done properly as my vehicle was severely pulling to the left and to also have a rear brake job. After sitting in the waiting area for 1.5 hrs and my car not even in the shop I asked what was going on as they were closing within 30 minutes. I was told they only had one mechanic on and they could still get it all done today while I waited another 3 hours after closing. I said no thank you. Very disappointed in the service as my appointment was booked over 3 weeks ago. I'm going to have to seriously consider going back to them even though I've purchased tires from them.

I cant find enough good words to explain my complete gratitude towards some very exceptional staff at this location! I had unpredicted family emergency situation and was late for my appointment for seasonal tire swap, but had to get it done same day. I apologized profusely and asked for forgiveness and understanding. Kat at the front desk was so helpful, sweet and compassionate to help me out and she made it happen for me, I'm so appreciative beyond words! Chad was very quick and professional to get my vehicle in and got it rolling for the service. What a difference great people at this location make - highly recommend this place!

I generally have a pretty good experience here. I've ordered my tires from this location for several years now.

This last order though, boy oh boy did they mess up. First it was ordered to the wrong location, then it had "arrived" when in reality the tires were still back ordered. Then they didn't call me when the tires did arrive. Then, icing on the cake, I make an appointment in the early afternoon to have the tires mounted, show up late in the evening and they haven't even begun the install. What's the point of an appointment if that's not when you're working on the car.

End of the day they were apologetic and they were honest mistakes, but actions speak louder than words. This transaction was a mess every step of the way and an "we're sorry" doesn't always cut it.

I booked my appointment online, I was seen almost right away, the appointment itself was in decent time & the service was excellent! I would definitely recommend this place to others.

I wish I could give them zero stars. Had an appointment for 10am to get an alignment done.they said it would be 90 minutes untilit was done.at 1130am I was told it would be another two hours before they could get it in and finished. Please tell me the point of making an appointment is? What a waste of time. This place is a joke!

Very happy with my new tires. When I called for a price I spoke with DMackinnon who was able to offer me a variety of options to suit my needs, offer his own personal advice as to which tires to choose and why, and took the time to answer my questions patiently.
Upon picking up my car they let me know of an existing issue but let me know it didn't need to be fixed "right away" and the number he quoted me on the phone was exactly the cost at the end, to the cent.
They weren't the cheapest price I had been quoted but I felt very confident leaving my car with them, the tires that he suggested were actually the highest quality of all the other places, and only a couple hundred dollars more. All of these things made the extra cost more than worth it. Great job!

Don and his team were great in dealing with my tire repair today. Friendly, smiling faces that went above and beyond to ensure I was happy. They still went above and beyond even after a difficult situation with a customer when I dropped my vehicle off and the customer was being quite rude and clearly not knowing what they were talking about as I heard a good chunk of the situation. The team didn't let that encounter affect how they treated the rest of us.job well done!

Booked an appointment for tire change. 90 minutes it said when booking. At drop off staff said 2 hrs due to short staff. 2 hours passed no phone call and car still sitting in the parking lot with tire bags ripped open. I called and the guy said o yea we can't put them on 2 tires are worn on the outer. When were they going to call and tell me? Why did they not offer me tire options to purchase? I'm still without tires now. The tires are from Kal tire in BC and previously and could possibly have warranty or discount options for new tires.this was honored for discounts and such previously but now they do not without the original purchase receipt. I started using Kal tire because of great customer service and got money towards new tires when returning old ones with a previous vehicle. I don't know why I continue to use this company because they have already broke my convertible top last year (which cannot be fixed to pre break condition), they told me I needed lug nuts and that it was going to be ridiculously expensive and I got them no problem from the dealership for half of the quote Kal tire gave me. Last 3 visits short staffing blamed for way longer visits. This company used to be great for customers but not anymore. It's definitely changed and for the worse: (

Edit - I spoke to Don about my experience at Kal Tire and I had a good conversation with him about my situation and time spent there. I cannot remove my review because the situation happened, but after speaking with Don I would consider giving them another chance.

1 star - sure my tires got installed but that isn't the hard part, like Canadian Tire can do that. I had to wait at the shop to get my new tires, was told my tires would be changed in 60 minutes, 90 tops.it was about 90 mins before my car made it into the shop. The tire change took about 40ish minutes, I know because I could watch my car on the lift from the nice window and I timed it. The took my car out, then I proceeded to wait again. 30 more mins go by, I check in on my car, its been sitting in the parking lot for quite some time. It was waiting for alignment, I look over at the alignment bay - its empty. Proceed to wait again. After about 3.5 hours I finally got my car back. If you couldn't get it done in 1.5 hours "tops" like you said, don't say it. Customer service is everything since I can get tires pretty much anywhere. If you cannot make that time, Tell me while I am sitting there waiting. I asked if you could get it done while I waited, the Agent said 90 mins top. I had a scheduled appointment. What use are your appointments if you cant actually look at my car around that time?

Continually going down hill. I make appointments and they allow 90 min.however I usually wait a good hour before they tell me they cannot help me. A simple tire patch and waited for 45 min to find out they do not want to fix it. Seriously why not look at it it within the first few minutes.assess it and deal with it. Don't tell me an expert tire guy can't look at a nail in a tire and determine if it is fixable or not.with out the truck being on a hoist. Since James left years ago, service has never been the same.

My sons truck needed a tire fix and they fixed very fast and the manager and the tech took it in close to closing and did it and my son ian and me will be back in the future to buy new tires and use them for all tire sevice.this is the place to go for all your tire needs.

They don't care about you. I had to drop off the car with a half empty tire. They did not bother to fix it, may be it was Friday, or I was first timer and they won't fix it for free! They called me saying that I need to replace all 4 tires just because all tires should be the same, quoting me for +1200. I decided not to go for it. When I had to pick up the car, the tire was still half empty. Do you really care about your potential customers? I took the car to another shop who gladly fixed the tire at a reasonable cost.

Really disappointed. Had a slow leak and took my Jeep in to have them look at it. They filled it up and sent me on my way, no charge because they found no problem. The slow leak persisted so I had the dealership look at it when I brought it in for service. They found a nail in the shoulder of the tire that was unrepairable. Thanks for letting me drive around with that hazard guys.

Very bad service, I arrived at 4 pm, they closed at 5 pm, the guy he refused me was very rude, I just needed to glue the tire there was a nail, the guy who was on the desk was very rude BAD PLACE! 13.01.21

I stopped in for the second time at Kal Tire today and was shocked to hear that Ray’s last day is this Saturday. My goodness Kal Tire what have you done letting such an dedicated and customer service driven employee slip through your fingers. Mark my words you are going to lose a lot of customers. I was recommending people to Kal Tire because I knew Ray would provide them with great customer service. Look at your other reviews Kal Tire, the bad reviews are some of your other employees, ones that are there for the 9-5 pay cheque! Do you think myself and others in these hard times want to deal with a place that doesn’t appreciate their customers and there hard working employees. The two times I was there, people were lined up just to deal with Ray! One elderly lady even wanted to tip him but Ray declined and said he was just glad to be able to help her get the tire fixed! Are you kidding me, when is the last time you heard that at a tire shop! Because of the hours I work, Ray accommodated me past the regular shop hours, what shop does that in Calgary! As a women I am often treated like I don’t know anything about cars and talked to in that manner. I stopped at 2 other Kal Tire that treated me that way before I stopped at the Shawnessy location. Ray was courteous and respectful from the beginning and that got him my business. I hope this review goes higher than the store level because Kal Tire you really need to keep people like Ray that not only offer the best customer service but actually work hard for the business to succeed. You need to promote employees like this not let them walk out the door because you are only damaging your business by not seeing employees like Ray are rare!

Poor and expensive service. Fixed 3 tires and they didnt even bother to up the tire pressure after fixing same. I asked to get some air and was kept waiting for 15 mins without service. Had to leave without the air.

This Kal Tire has very professional staff and I have always been impressed with the service provided. I recently found a nail in one of my brand new tires and Kal Tire's warranty program replaced the tire and installed it for almost no cost to myself. Although there was some hiccups resulting in a damaged spare tire cover on the bumper of my truck on this last visit, the staff quickly handled the situation and reimbursed me for the replacement part from the dealership. I would like to personally thank Raed for his help dealing with everything and will continue using this location in the future.

I strongly recommend Kal Tire and specifically this location to my friends and family.

Service here is up and down. 5 years ago it was excellent.then it went downhill and it more recently is a bit better. The biggest issue that I have is that they fail to realize that not all their costumers live in south Calgary, I have had to book elsewhere because they informed me that they may need to keep my vehicle overnight.for tire changes. At a recent tire swap they also failed to call me, as we discussed, if my vehicle needed a wheel alignment and proceeded to do without consent, it makes you not trust the service and wonder if the alignment is just a cash grab.
Edit: received abusive customer service from a young lady working there on my last tire swap. Will never go back.

Everytime I phone this location Megan always seems to be the person answering. I called 3 times and she answered and was obviously busy as she had to put me on hold each time but never for long.
She was polite and courteous at all times and helped me out with my quote.

I called in the middle of October to book my summer sport tires changed over. (My fault) The earliest they could do was November 13th. I was alittle upset when I called back to see if I could be squeezed in before that date, since I was traveling to Fort Mac. Ron fit me in the day before I was to leave. Amazing. Thanks so much guys!

I drove through a good snow storm on the way to Fort Mac the next day. I wouldn't have made it there with my summer tires.

I had previously decided never to use Kal Tire again after another location refused to honor their fundraiser coupons for an oil change.i will now only be going to this location as the level of customer service we received it beyond exceptional. My wife was about to head to her chemo appointment in the nw, when she noticed a low tire, (screw in the sidewall). She took the car to shawnessy Kal Tire and explained her situation.within minutes they had her car in the bay and informed her of the damaged side wall.within the hour our service rep, named Ray, had found us an amazing deal on tires, and had even set aside time the next day for our install just so my wife would have peace of mind when travelling for her many appointments at the tom baker center. Ray then went above and beyond several more times, not only did he give my wife exceptional customer service, and a great deal, but he also contacted me several times to keep me updated and then again when the job was complete.i cannot say enough about how great our experience was, i will be only guying tires from this location for both personal and work vehicles. GREAT job guys, very much appreciated.

I came out of Lee Valley and noticed my driver side tire had a big screw embedded in the tire. I knew if I drove around I may end up with a flat tire. I immediately drove to Shawnessy Kal Tire without an appointment and explained my situation. They were very busy, but fitted me in and fixed the tire. I would like to thank all the staff for their help at a difficult time. They also installed my new winter tires and have the best customer service of any company I have used. Great company!

Close to home makes it convenient. Always helpful staff. Quick winter tire replacement. Had an issue with one wheel that hadnt been tightened all the way but they quickly solved the issue. Great service for sure.

Kal tire was awesome for me and my fam, we bought tires a year ago at the Medicine Hat Kal Tire, then recently I noticed something small, and went to the shawville location. I chatted with Ray (Raed), he was incredibly professional, and explained everything to me in detail.he then ordered a new tire to replace the one I had (warranty) and had it installed right away (a location near by had the part and their driver went and grabbed it). I always come back to Kal in Shawnessy because i consistently have great service here. I highly recommend.

Went into the Shawnessy location to fix a nail in my tire. I have to say that Ray went above and beyond with his customer service.
Every customer he was dealing with that came in he fully explained everything that had been done and also given his direct number to ensure every customer was satisfied with their service.

He made sure that my vehicle was taken care of in the quickest manner possible and also was giving me updates along the way.

By far the best customer service in a Kal-tire. 5 star service for sure
