They carry a lot of products that are amazing and hard to find. Sometimes I play a little game here and buy something I have no knowledge about (as long as it’s $5 or under). Like Greek cherry shampoo, which I must say is heavenly.

This is my go to store for anything Mediterranean, the prices are better than any grocery store and the selection of foods is amazing. Wonderful people!

Absolutely Amazing! I got 2 loux and 2 chocolate and they gave me a third chocolate for free. I love coming here and the staff are really nice.

Where can I start with little golden secret for authentic European foods?
Well, Kalamata Grocery is a tiny corner store with a HUGE selection!
They offer spices that are ground, whole, natural, organic and any are from Greece.
If you like olives then look no further as Kalamata Grocery have more then you can possibly name including small to jumbo jars or olives by the gram.
Follow this up with amazing dried meats, sausages, cheeses and other charcuterie and you have an amazing antipasto spread.
They also feature handmade Ethiopian ‘pancake’ flatbread, pitas and tortillas.
There are other breads that I have not seen before so check these out too.
Kalamata Grocery also offers a small variety of chilled food, fruits and veggies.
For vegans, there is a large variety of European pastas, beans, canned and jarred foods that are often labelled organic, no preservatives and non-gmo.
If you like fish, then check out there freezer selection and ask about fresh-something I forgot to do.
For FETA FANS, you can get a literal bucketful of Greek Feta here!
If you have a sweet tooth them check out Kalamata Grocery Turkish Delight, Greek & German Chocolates as well as many other countries treats.
The owner told me that if I didn’t like anything I bought to bring it back.
THAT IS A+ CUSTOMER SERVICE!

UPDATE: They also have fresh nuts, dried fruit and a humungous baking/pastry section.
I guess they have about 2x the variety of large specialty European grocery stores at 1/2 ‘HALF’ the price!

My last review was 2 years ago and time for an update. Things have gotten better at Kalamata during COVID. Their continued service to the community is stellar. You have GOT to try their fresh FETA come in weekly from Greece! Still 5 stars. Thanks Gus and K-Crew:)

I've been going to this store when in the area for the past few years. The service has always been great and the selection is varied.can't beat them for olives or feta! Today I experienced some of the best customer service I've had in a long time. I had to return an item and asked to exchange it for a similar value in olives. Even though it was a manufacturer issue, they quickly had it sorted with apologies and the olives, then they proceeded to also give me my $$ back! I was happy enough with just how well the exchange was handled but I really felt they went well above what would be expected. With customer service like this, can only continue to highly recommend people shop here, you won't regret it.

I was looking for the frozen Krinos Twisters apple cinnamon fillo, I looked all over the city. I called Kalamata’s and they had them! The owner also had other flavours and told me to call back in 5 minutes he was going downstairs to his freezer to see if he had any. I called back and he did. I drove down there to pick the pies up and although his store isn't super big it is jam packed with tons of unique foods, spices, Lebanese bread, fresh olives. This store is a gem! Great service, they even carried my purchases out to my car for me! I will be shopping there all the time now. Its so nice to see a small business owner thriving and offering exceptional customer service

I thought I would stop in to see what they had and WOW. What an amazing selection of foods, spices and candy from around the world (esp. Greece, Turkey, Spain, etc.). Picked up some Greek bay leaves, Turkish honey and some feta and ricotta cheese triangles. So good!

This is the best Balkan market in the city. I love this place. If you miss your product from back home, you will find it here.

I like the prices and the variety. A faithful customer and fan of 40 years! Love their connection to our community.

The lady there was rude and she was ignoring customers while scanning the items with the bar code. Seemed she hated her job. BTW Giving orders loudly to other employees in the store In front of your customers doesn’t make customers respect you. The store lanes are very narrow so that only one person fits in. I saw some customers were not applying social distancing. It smells like deli and dairy products when you enter it. Some stains on the floor and thrown away products by the sides in the lanes. It’s very confusing were to stand at the fridges area where people line up for requesting olives and cheese and you have to excuse them to open the fridge’s door. The store only accepts either cash or debit cards and there are no ATM machines within the area, Although she mentioned there was one at the back without explanation or even giving directions. Yes the store have variety of products but no roomy, Ricotta or Areesh or double cream cheese.
I totally wasted my time and effort to shop there and finally got disappointed without getting my items at the end. There was another grocery store that was 2 mins walking from Kalamata and had the same items I wanted without any complications with payment and the staff was very friendly and offered me some Egyptian shewing gum.

This shop has heart and soul unlike any other, I ll be frank - no wonder it has been around for years! Recently I went shopping there for my Nana and the pasta dish I cooked for here was all assembled using the best ingredients and Mediterranean delights, all for under $10. They also have fresh cheeses, cold meats, and pitted olives. Furthermore the store is cramped but stocked to the ceiling with the finest spices, Greek mountain tea, nuts, juices, coffee, bread and jams +. Friendly and prompt service is their standard, I very much appreciate their knowledge on food stuffs and brands they carry. Truly an Old World treasure: best combination of quality, service and price. Thank you

Damn I miss this place. Lived around the corner and just loved the block it’s on and the store itself. Delicious European and Turkish treats, the staff are always friendly. Having this place nearby really made the area feel more like a warm community. I hope they’re still there when I go back! Keep up the great work!

Gus' store is an incredible eclectic store of many different Eastern European foods from overseas! From an exciting colourful array of olives Ethiopian breads, pate, jams stuffed grape leaves, sauces and salsas and pestos, drinks, cheeses, dips, frozen Greek foods, chocolates and oils and of course candy, including cigarettes at a very good price. This quaint original store has been in the family for over 50 years and is definitely worth a visit! If anything just to meet the ever charismatic, kind owner Gus. Thanks Gus, we always enjoy visiting your store and chatting with you and your friendly knowledgeable staff.

This is a great place to buy special food kinds. We always buy "Mate", which is a kind of herbs you drink with a hot water. We usually also buy oriental kinds of food, which we won't find in another place. This place is different from any other food store. This place is unique.

This place is a gold mine! We'd been all over the city looking for ingredients for various European dishes and we found it all here! So much selection and amazing prices. Plus, the owner is so nice and friendly. Highly recommended a visit.

Fantastic selection of delicious and unique foods and beverages. Really friendly and helpful staff. Very reasonable prices for what you get. Very convenient opening hours. Stores like this bring life to neighbourhoods!

Awesome.like a hidden diamond in the rough, unexpected visit was the best part of the evening as it has a great deli counter but more importantly it has a vast array of candy and sweets you would not find anywhere else with a variety coming from all corners of the globe.and that's just the candy. The small but very busy store is comfortable, friendly and welcoming where the owners (I'm guessing it was the owner) was very helpful. I did feel a bit uncomfortable with the feeling I was being watched more closely than others as I made my way up and down all the aisles, taking in and thinking of all the upcoming recipes I can explore because of the large selection of imported goods - from Italy's pasta sauces to Turkish cake mixes and fresh Italian Cheeses with amazing prices not found anywhere else. As for the uncomfortable watchful feeling, like I said, a diamond in the rough located just off 17th Avenue SW with a lot of outside foot traffic, some of which would require a watchful eye if they came in any store.

Overall, I welcomed the fact it was an accidental stop and have been back three times since just to try different snacks from other counties, I highly recommend visiting this gem of a local community market. I'd even add a if I had three arms.

Best turkish delights, olives, greek feta, and many more! Products from the Middle East and the Europe. It s a very small shop but you can find anything you want! The owners and staff are always very nice! This is a very successful corner store that has been in business for long years. Keep up with the good work dear Kalamata team!:)

Very nice small grocery shop were you can get a big varieties of Greek / middle eastern / Arabic breads, pickles, reserves, teas, olives, spices and much more.

Such a fun place to explore and tempt your taste buds with items you will not find in most stores. We meandered through the isles imagining all of the delicious dishes that we could put together will all of the delightful ingredients. Ended up with a few basics on last trip but will certainly be back to expand my culinary horizons.

I love going into Kalamata. It gives me a chance to explore different recipes with all of the cool goodies that I find in the store. A gem of a store! I plan trips to Kalamata just to see what I can find.

This hole in a wall May look crowded and old and untidy but if you want an authentic old school grocery, this is it. Best feta and olives in calgary. Full stop. Then add in the European foods and it is a weekend must stop at place. If you have not been here, go out of your way to change that.

They sell the best olive oil (Cretan), feta (in the big yellow tubs), and honey. Their vinegar selection is also good.
