It’s an average shawarma spot, nothing really special about it. The shawarma is alright, not bad not great. Average is the entire vibe of this restaurant. Staff is friendly, place is relatively clean. It might get a little noisy later in the day but at night it’s not too bad
This place used to be so good. They put the Sharma wrap on the grill for so long it makes the lettuce soggy, cheap for sauce, and it's not friendly the way it was years ago. Lost my business when the girl cooking was touching her hair and then handing the food.
Ordered delivery. Our donair wraps were soggy, the lettuce was brown and old. The donair meat looked more like ground beef than sliced donair. These had to have been the worst donair wraps we've ever eaten. Rest assured, I will never order from here again. Terrible is the kindest word I can impart on what we attempted to eat.
Ignorant staff member refused service as I requested not to have salad with my platter. Then, when I asked my for my money back was refused the method I paid with. Perhaps train your staff a little better are going to be representing you.
Food was normally okay when i do take out I Ordered a platter should be heaping because i had two meats, lo and behold i get less what i was expecting and if i did get a single meat on my platter i could have gotten more, disappointing for the amount i paid for a platter, i dont think people would care about this review but might as well let people know what to expect
Been going here for 5 years alot has changed. The portion size has been cut in half & the overall quality has declined. I do not recommend nor will I ever return. There are a lot of better options out there.
With an abundance of shawarma options in the city, there’s no reason to come here, even if you live across the street. The meat is reheated. You pay for extra meat and the portion is embarrassing. The beef and lamb platter is 95% ground beef. The salad and pickles are… interesting. You can tell that there is no passion in this business. Every corner cut.
Probably the worst shawarma we ever had. The meat is dry, doesn't feel fresh. The vegetables and sauces are so liquidy are less than the bare minimum. The potatoes felt like they just got reheated in a microwave. The service is slow as well. Do not recommend.
I discovered this place after moving to the city 7 years ago. I would walk 15 minutes, bus 20 minutes, spend 20 minutes on the train, then walk another 15 minutes just to come here for Shawarma. For their wraps they do two layers of thin pita and throw it on the grill, so it’s pastry-like crispy on the outside (SO. FREAKIN. DELICIOUS.) Their mild green hot sauce is amazing AND they’re one of the very few places that has pickled cabbage! 7 years later, any time I am visiting the city this place is my go to. 10/10 recommend.
First and last time I go. I ordered beef and lamb platter.the employee asked me what I wanted as sides and then left in the back. She came out with a small bowl with rice and meat. Few minutes later she put it into the box, I assume she was warming it up! Not even from the skewer and it was only 5pm! Surprise when I opened the container at home, only beef (ground beef). Very small portions
Employee nice but I ordered a lamb platter last night it was so old she just dumped it on the rice from a bowl that was sitting in the corner, wasn't on the turning thing. Salad was fresh but lamb was so gross. My husband ordered a butter chicken that tasted fresh so we threw out the lamb. What a waste. The hummus on the side was one spoon. The owner should make the necessary changes.
I used to go here all the time, they had great food. Went here for the first time after years and the food is terrible. They get all the meat from a heating tray the portions are smaller and tasted so bad. It was bland no flavor at all the meat and the sauces had no taste
If you like overwhelming cinnamon and curry flavor in your shawarma platters, along with those weird disgusting pickle coins that come in the jar with cauliflower and other trash this is the place for you. I ordered the lamb + beef platter, they literally went into the back and came out with a bowl of cold meat, an hour before closing time. Talk about cutting corners, keep the meat on the spit. Lastly, I hope you enjoy scraping the sauce off the plastic takeout bag to throw on top before you eat.
Trust me, it's worth the gas even at 1.91/L to drive over to a Shawarma Palace, they literally never disappoint.
The one star is for the pleasant and kind employee, so thanks to her for being the only positive part of this experience.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE! First of all, I got the mixed platter and woman server with glasses was on a call with her airpods plugged onto her ear. Everytime I go, she gives you SMALLEST amount of meats whether if it’s on a wrap or a platter. I kindly asked if she could give one more scoop and she said it “COSTS EXTRA”. LIKE? You charge $16.80 for this and you basically get tiny amounts.
She then gave me extra scoop but the way she behaved towards me was ridiculous. She was giggling with the person who she was on a call with and kept laughing based on what I’ve asked her for. ALSO she forgot to add pita bread and I asked if it comes with one pita bread. How can you forget? The restaurant wasn’t busy at all, when I entered, I had to ring the bell. OVERALL, absolutely disgusting attitude towards customers and she looked like she just wanted to go home.
Staff is slow inconsistent and the swarms itself is the price of a large for the size of a small in most establishments. Not to mention that the actual shwatma was ill prepared
My favorite shawarma place in Calgary. Great fresh ingredients and love the crispy outer wrap. Staff has always been friendly and great. Love you King ️
I’m on the hunt for the best Schwarma with homemade hot sauce. This is a top contender! Good price @ 12.50 for Large mix. The lady serving me was very friendly. Chicken and lamb is very juicy/tender, with excellent portions. Rumour has it they make their own hot sauce so I asked for extra. They put some green chilly sauce in there that I’ve never seen before and am happy to have experienced. I’m a big fan of the double wrap (though avoid bread in general) with thin outside layer. It looked too big to fold over but somehow she did it! Grilled to perfection and no leakage at all. (drive for 15 min before eating) Very tightly wrapped and no mess consumption. As I write this I can still taste gentle hints of the green chilli sauce fading away. It’s the kind of hot that turns people who don’t like hot sauce onto hot sauce lovers.
Best shawarma in Calgary, hands down. Very affordable for the amount of food (especially protein) you get. Amazing crunchy outer wrapper, so it doesn't get soggy on the way home. And they're open super late most nights, which is a huge bonus.
Delicious food at a decent price. Many things to choose from. Sometimes very busy with a very small store but overall definitely worth it. Would definitely recommend this place.
One of the Best Shawarma places in Calgary. The staff is quite friendly and nice to customers. The food is top notch, with good quality and great quantity. Must try their Chicken Shawarma and Chicken Platter!
While the food could be rated a 3.5 or 4 depending on what you get, the service and staff are abysmal. Would need a UV light to be able to see the sauces on your plate and staff hesitate to add any more Hummus or Garlic sauce especially when at every Shawarma place, those are the two you get in abundance.
thank very much Suk for making the best/ the most delicious meal #2 Combo + 3 baklavas and Crush! I ate it in a bite and I could not keep for myself how delighted I felt so I called the store because the Queen" must absolutely hear that you made my day.it was stuffed, wrapped and toasted to perfection!
Super grateful they are open late at night, I used to live across the street and would stop by to grab some shawarma on my walk home after closing the store. Food is really good especially when I’m too tired after a work day to make dinner.
This is one of my favorite donair places. It might not seem alot, but what sets them apart is that they double wrap. You order a donair, you get a donair. But between ordering and recieving said donair, they wrap it a second time in pita. I cannot stress enough how great this is. It adds structure against the normal donair droop (helpful if delivered), soaks up extra sauce (helpful if you like all the sauces like me), and gives a great mouth feal (just.helpful.) Make a point to try this place sometime. Unless you hate donairs.
Absolutely one of the best Shawarma I have tried in my life, and that is a heavy statement. I will cross the Oceans like never before to return to King of Shawarma.
DELICIOUS SHAWARMA BUT POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. CAME HERE TWO NIGHTS AGO AND THE GIRL WORKING THERE WAS UNKIND AND IMPATIENT WITH US. ADDITIONALLY SHE FORGOT TO PACK THE SAMOSAS I HAD PAID FOR. OTHERWISE GREAT PORTIONS AND TASTE.
Order took forever! No pita with the platter, no gralic sauce with the potatoes.had to wait for all the delivery ppl to get their order first. Girl in line got a chicken platter and the microwaved her chicken. I should've just asked for my money back at that point. Jerusalem Shawarma is 1000000x better
There's a few things I look for when buying a donair and King of Shawarma absolutely delivered.
The lamb and beef donair was packed to the brim with meat making it a incredibly satieting experience. The pungent smell of spices filled my living room and if it wasn't for the sheer size of the thing it would of been gone in seconds.
Its safe to say, I will be returning to the King for my late night donair fix.
Not a bad place for Lebanese food. Especially considering the fact that Calgary doesn't have as many options as other major Canadian cities like Montreal and Ottawa. The food's pretty good. However, if you decide to try it, make sure that you remember to ask for pita bread. They won't give it to you otherwise. Isn't that RIDICULOUS? !? THEY ASK U if you want any one of a thousand sauces or vegetables included with your order but expect you to ask for pita bread despite the fact that it's always been included in every order at every middle Eastern restaurant in the world - including theirs! THEY DON'T EXPECT YOU TO ASK FOR HUMMUS! THEY JUST EXPECT YOU TO EAT IT WITH YOUR FINGERS I GUESS? At the very least if they're going to expect patrons to ask for something that they rightfully should expect to be AUTOMATICALLY included they should PUT UP A SIGN that advises them. Anyways, to their credit at least they give it to you for free if you ask for it. It's just stupid.
Came here to get a donair but decided to get combo 1 which is a small donair, potato's and water or pop which is pretty good for 12.99 or whatever it is. I've been here many times before and love there donair. Today was pretty bad though I got microwaved potato's, some were beyond hot where others were still cold, and from the taste and texture of them I'm thinking they were among the portions that were ready to be tossed. Did not finish.
Donair is usually pretty solid, this time the bread was tasting off like it was about to go bad or start molding, (if you've ever eaten older questionable bread then you know what I mean). That pretty much ended it for me! Wont be coming back.
Most everything is gluten free and seasoned really well. Still one of the few places that serve potatoes instead of fries. Great portions and prices. Only disappointment was they warmed my meat up in the microwave, instead of reheating it on the grill, made the meat chewy and hard.
This is one of my favorite shawarma places in Calgary. The food taste sooo good, and the value is great. Only draw back is the parking, but hey sometimes good things need a little sacrifice. Keep up the great work guys.
King of late night munchies in Calgary! Friday and Saturday open till 4am Any other day 2 am. Great shawarma and. Falafel combos and plates. $ 15 sh.even some baklava. A late night classic
Definitely the best shawarma in all of Calgary. Everytime I try their wraps it exceeds my expectations. Much better than the rest of the competition. It also seems like they recently renovated part of the restaurant. Looks good.
Was very disappointing. Had the mix and it was not what I expected. Now reading all the posts about being sick and hope we won’t be also. Their falafel was not even close to what we usually have for taste.
Open until 4: 30am most days so great for late night dining, the large shawarma wrap is big enough to be a good sized snack for two to share. Unlike many Shawarma places, wraps here are double wrapped and grilled so that they don't just fall apart when trying to eat them.
Good flavor, quick service, good prices, a solid quick service restaurant.
I got the Chicken+Beef Donair Mixed Wrap Large for $10.99. It’s really big that I had to share the half with my wife. Tasty meat, plenty of veggies and lots of sauces to choose from. It’s the best shawarma if you’re looking for a good one around the area.
I have been loving this gem of a restaurant for all the years I've lived in Calgary! Best Shawarma I've had in my life, consistently, every single time. Price is amazing and they are always open late as well as in the morning too! If family owner Mediterranean sounds like what's for dinner this is the first place on my mind. Worth crossing the city to eat here!
Disgusting! This is a joke for a shawarma place. They serve you frozen beef and the rice is old nothing was good $14 dollars and I think I had 3 bites of the platter because I was starving and I just walked out. So bad its unbelievable
