We went there after reading all the reviews and making a reservation. We weren’t let down. The food, the ambience and the service were all great. Their menu is very simple and that makes it easy to order. They also have a vegetarian section which was my fav! We ended up ordering the tuna, beets salad, Brussel sprouts, mushroom Risotto, pork belly, the tagliatelle and the soft serve ice cream. It was all Polished off by the fam. We were lucky to see a bear serenading the building and that was amazing!
Food was delicious! As my sister described it “finally normal food again”. Everything tasted great and the proportions were perfect. Staff very nice and service was also very fast. Thoroughly enjoyed it, definitely recommended!
De-li-cious. I haven't had such an elevated fine dining experience in quite some time and for it to be in Jasper!? If only this could be available in Edmonton. Must try the elk tartar and kale salad. I was so happy with my meal I wanted to meet the chef and personally thank her but unfortunately she had gone home. I will be sure to tell all my friends and family to come when they go to Jasper. I cannot wait to visit again.
10/10 stars! We ate here for dinner once and breakfast 2x. Coming from NYC, we’re super impressed with this restaurant. Every dish was high quality, well prepared & delicious. They’ve done a really great job with this place. Much better than any places we ate in downtown.
Went to Jasper for a weekend, went to Kumama twice. Had the whole menu, food was awesome, service was awesome. Shoutout to Jeremy for the service as he looked after us both days!
One of the best food we had during our road trip in Banff and Jasper national park. Inspired by Asian food and great balance of each ingredients and tasty sauce. Nice presentation as well. Staff are super friendly! Definitely will come back for food.
Great little spot for breakfast. Coffee is always fresh and hot. As well as the baristas being very knowledgeable and welcoming. Marie ecpecially! This place always has me coming back. The music sets the tone for a nice bungalow.
The menu is unique with interesting options. The Ochazuke Ahi Tuna and Octopus is so flavourful and our favourite. And the Green Pea papardelle too. Try the passion fruit bomb for dessert. The servers are welcoming, friendly and make helpful recommendations.with good music the atmosphere is simple and relaxed. Such a great addition to Pine Bungalows which is also a good place to stay in Jasper (on Athabaskan R just adjacent to Jasper town)
Small but well executed menu. Hands down the best meal/dinner we had in Jasper between the food and service. We came back for coffee and pastries the next morning!
Motto of restaurant is "no". Despite Kumama's web site not functional for weeks, I made a reservation. Showed up, seeing no salad, asked if restaurant can make a salad? "no". Do you have green side vegetables we can order such as broccoli or leafy greens? "no". If we order main course A, can we have the vegetables of Main course B? "NO", the chef does NOT do substitutions, none. "if you don't like your policy, you don't have to stay". It was 6: 15 pm, and there were ZERO customers at the restaurant besides us. Zero. We left.
The staff was super super nice and welcoming, but the food was a disappointment. Very small dishes (30+ dollars won’t be nearly enough to fill your stomach). The fish is overwhelmed with ingredients but lacking on taste and has a funny texture. The inside of the restaurant is romantic with dim lighting, but light from outside takes over and makes it hard to see (plenty of light yet too dark?). The place is clean, comfortable and has good vibes.
Dined here twice during our trip to jasper. Fabulous food and service. The chickpeas fritters were so good that we had to visit one more time. We also had the raviolo, the mushroom tart, sea bass, the house made soft serve and chocolate tart. Everything was amazing. Wouldn’t be surprised if this place is recommended by Michelin soon.
We recently made a visit to this lovely lovely restaurant in Jasper. My my my GOODNESS were we just taken away by the lovely sights. A serene and beautiful drive up a small dirt road to a little village in the pines.
Inside it brings back memories of cocoa in cabins, staring out at the bright blue mountains with the gentlest of hot chocolate. Their food though truly is what had me singing joyously aaaall through the day.
Perfectly prepared and all locally sourced ingredients made an Eggs Benedict that melts in your mouth. And no extra salt! The typical English muffin base is replaced by a pastry of some sort that crumbles in a divine way; altogether making a perfect meal; And then we tried the French Toast, and discovered true perfection. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMy GOODness does this lovely German chef give the French a run for their money when it comes to French Toast.
Not a spare tea spoon of sugar nor a single salt fleck too many. It was delicately sweet clouds of cinnamon-maple goodness topped by a crispy bacon garnish with just the right crunch. We fought hard not to buy a second order after the first bite! (It was a genuine debate for 10+ minutes. Not even kidding).
All in all, we haven't even tried the Inn that houses the restaurant yet but our hearts are Im-Bedded into the cozy cottage seats that we shared our first taste of heaven in.
Check this place out yourself and if you don't try the French toast, you'll never forgive yourself. I promise! And while you're there give a big hello to Marie! The cherry on top to our brunch adventure; our bright-eyed cheruby sweet mademoiselle that knew just what to recommend, and with perfect timing and poise to boot.
Kumama Bistro is amazing! My husband and I enjoyed breakfast, dinner, homemade soft serve ice cream, and pastries during our recent weeklong stay at Pine Bungalows. The food is delicious and everyone on staff is friendly, warm, and efficient. Kumama Bistro was highly recommended to us by a quirky, entertaining bartender we met at the only pub at the Saskatchewan River Crossing along the Icefields Parkway. We are so glad we took his advice! This place is a gem and a wonderful place to beat the crowds. Thank you from Michigan!
The first gourmet restaurant I have seen in this week-long trip in Canada. From Calgary, Canmore to Banff, Lake Louise and Emerald Lake, We tried high review restaurants along the way. Some were good, some were nah. But Kumama is a different level! Totally out of our expectation. I can feel the chef loves the food and want to deliver such love to the guest. Were so full on the 1st day that we had to come back the 2nd day to try the other half of Kumama's menu. We love the bison pasta and risotto best but basically everything is GOOD.
Lovely place just outside of Jasper. We had a really fantastic breakfast: French toast, Eggs Benedict, breakfast sandwich. All of it handmade, fresh and delicious! Strong recommendation.
Well - this is currently the place to eat in Jasper. A little bit off the beaten path just outside of Jasper, we decided to give this a try. The bistro held up to its reviews and we had a very enjoyable meal. The wine list is short but very good. We had a bottle of the Black Sage Vineyards Cab which was excellent. We shared the wild mushroom flatbread also excellent. I ordered the Bison Tagliatelle - braised shredded bison on fresh pasta - yummy. My wife had the Porcetta which was also very good. It was served with Rosti potatoes, parsnips and chimichuri sauce. The less is more adage may have applied to the sauce but overall everything was very good.
The key thing to note when choosing a restaurant in Jasper is always check recent reviews. It is hard to attract and keep good chefs so what is great this month may not be so great next.
A gem off the beaten path. Inventive and excellently executed dishes. Short but curated wine list. Greg’s service was top notch. You can’t go wrong. Will definitely return.
My girlfriend and I were in need of a good late night dinner, as we were driving in from Banff (originally from San Francisco), and found this gem. I had the Bison pasta and my girlfriend had the Soba noodles, which I can confirm, was by far the best meal we’ve had in AB.
The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating, especially Greggory, who told us to enjoy our dinner, even though we ate right before closing, and offered amazing food suggestions with the most professional and knowledgeable insight into each dish. Amazing food. Amazing staff. Amazing restaurant. Thank you!
The nicest staff of anywhere I've been in Alberta. Kind, polite and accommodating. Thank you for your great service. The ambience is also amazing, it is nestled in the middle of the cabins and trees.
Off the beaten path as a small restaurant at the Pines bungalows.but worth the trip 3 mins on the other side of the train tracks. Small menu but they do it all SO well. Very delicious home made bison pasta and trout was well presented and equally delicious. Excellent 5 star food without the 5 star pricing.
So far I've had the great pleasure of having most of the menu. I can't say that I have a favorite as I have enjoyed everything to date. Matched with the great service! Fantastic! Thank you again!
Want to try something unique? Want to take a break from the busy travel? Want to enjoy a cozy afternoon? You must come here! Love the dishes and dessert, the environment and the music, the table flower and the waiter. Everything is just perfect.
We had breakfast here because we were staying at the pine bungalows. The breakfast sandwich was amazing and we will be going back tomorrow to have more of it. The French toast was also delicious.
For dinner, we tried the vegetable carpaccio which was quite bland. The trout was pretty good and the bison pasta was delicious. The Caesar drink was not what I was expecting. It came from a bottle, tasted a lot different than standard caesars (thicker, and more like tomato than Clamato), also doesn’t come with a salted rim or any garnishes so that was a bit disappointing.
Definitely recommend the breakfast, although probably wouldn’t come back for dinner.
Outstanding breakfast and service! The staff was super friendly and helpful and their mushroom omelette and croissant just made our day Would definitely go back again and again and again!
Hidden gem away from theain drag of Jasper. Small meticulously clean and pretty space with amazing food and friendly staff. Even suggested a great trail for me to take my evening run.
One of the most amazing spots in Western Canada. Hidden in the beautiful Pine Bungalows, Kumama Bistro offers a haven away from the hustle and bustle of real life. The food is outstanding, staff are some of the kindest and attentive I have experienced, and the ambiance is by far a 5 out of 5. I 100% recommend everyone either visiting, living, or driving through Jasper to visit.
A small cute spot with a small menu. Everything we ate was amazing. The trout was so good and the charcuterie board was great. The rest of my party all has the fresh pasta with sage and boar and loved it. Also a great wine selection and a few local beer opinions as well. Quiet and wasn't very busy. Quick service.
Just finished dinner at Kumama and though I rarely leave reviews (though I should because I rely on them so heavily) this place just made me feel like I needed to tell people how good it was. Location is a bit secluded but worth the detour! Service was friendly and welcoming (thank you Gregory and JM!) Atmosphere is laid back yet trendy. Food is amazing - you can taste the high quality of ingredients and care taken to make each dish. Favourite was the braised bison. If you are in Jasper - do yourself a favour and visit Kumama.
Highly recommend Kumama for anyone stopping by Jasper. Expect delicious food and subpar service. I enjoyed the seared trout as well as the braised bison pasta and would highly recommend each. Thanks Gregory and JM for the awesome service and looking forward to coming back!
Hands down the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. After a disappointing brunch in Jasper town yesterday (Harvest), wish we came here each morning on our trip! Small menu but everything looks mouthwatering. Excellent service. Thanks, we’ll be back!
Regardless if you stay at Pine Bungalows or somewhere else in Jasper (but especially if you stay at Pine Bungalows), check out Kumama. The food is spectacular and so is the service. We stayed at Pine Bungalows for 4 days and had Dinner 3 times and breakfast once from Kumama. They deliver to your cabin to keep you safe in times of COVID-19. No trip to town needed to pick up food. The braised bison pasta, the trout, the charcuterie board, the beet root carpacio, the risotto,, and French toast and omelette for breakfast. We sincerely loved every bite!
We stayed at the Pine Bungalows for two nights and honestly we never expect much from most hotel or tourist location restaurants. We were very wrong. The service was impeccable, thank you JM and Marco for making our time here so special. The food was unreal. We enjoyed two breakfasts and the breakfast sandwich is life changing, as advertised lol. We also had an amazing dinner on the patio and absolutely loved the trout and the bison pasta. Finding fresh ingredients put together in an elevated way is often difficult in overly touristy places, so this place is a gem. The Canteen also blew us away with local products that we stocked up on for our roadtrip home and were so amazing.
For any foodies out there, this place is for you. After many years of traveling to jasper this might just be my absolute favorite kitchen. The newly owned pines bungalow has a lovely new patio with outdoor fire pit. You can sit gazing at the peak of pyramid mountain in perfect quiet (aside from the odd highway traffic but honestly who cares). It’s so secluded you do feel that old school jasper camping feel. The staff is fantastic. The food is not over done, or to fussy. Very high quality, great ingredients, fantastic flavors. Easily beats our JPL, giving the raven a run for it’s money.
