I love the Craft Brew/Soda & Burger collaboration. Having it so close to my workplace is a blessing I opt for the Empire with Cheese every time. My only petty gripe is cheese overload. Amount of American cheese overpowers the patty. The ratio is just slightly off. I would bet that thin slices would make the difference or using a single slice between patties. I will actually ask for the single slice next time. Minor observance from an OCD perfectionist, and up for debate based on personal tastes
Always a quality and delicious meal. Their burgers are a memorable experience. Tender juicy beef, fresh crisp veggies and perfectly melted cheese. Fries are also always a home run. Pair this meal with a refreshing Annex beer and you are all set!
Dropped in today. Burger and dirty Fries were great. Very poor customer service. Not sure how to describe it but rarely do I feel like I was treated like a child but today was the case. Absolutely disgraceful.
Annex makes the best root veer in the city, and their boozy vanilla root beer cocktail is just as fantastic. Lil' empire burgers got good bar food, I recommend getting a side of the dirty fries with the empire with cheese. A great spot to hang out and delicious food.
So it is cool that Annex Ale has a collab for grub in their space, it's just a shame it's Lil' Empire.
I came to try them because I saw they had a ranking for best burger in Calgary. To be honest they provide an average smash burger you can get at a dozen other places. There's no interesting ingredient combinations or unique in house sauce or flavour profile. Just a boring average burger. The fries were fantastic though. But I didn't go for fries.
The number 2 place on that list is WAAAAYYUY better than Lil' Empire.
This is a lovely little hidden gem, the burgers are amazing, and their in-house made soda pop is also great. If you like a good burger, 100% go give them a try
The kids wanted to try their chili dog and they were not disappointed! Great spot to try some beers from Annex while enjoying great food. We went in November, but will have to try their huge patio on a summer day.
Great burgers and reasonable prices. I saw other reviews comparing the style of burger to In and Out and I’d agree. Very tasty and juicy without being greasy. The fries were crispy and fresh. We also got a spicy dipping sauce which was excellent!
Best burgers in Calgary, simple yet so perfectly executed, perfectly seasoned. I always order just the regular cheese burger with bacon which is extra, but worth it. I have tried the chicken ones but the classic is superior IMO.
Everything in that burger is perfect: the super soft potato bun, the smashed patty, the burger sauce, the cheese, the bacon. I'm salivating just describing it. Pair it with your favorite beer, or Annex ginger beer which is always my go to.
If you have enough room in your stomach, the chili fries are incredible!
The down side is that once you try these burgers, all other burgers fall short
Good food for myself but for anyone who is celiac beware. My friend got really sick from a lettuce wrapped burger. Celiac isn’t just an allergy, it’s a disease and it makes some people incredibly ill. Fix your cross contamination issues.
Hands down one of my new faves places! Already a fan of Empire Provisions, so had to check this place out when I was in town! Had a yum spread of food and got to enjoy a beer! Absolutely love the Annex ale combo location, great idea!
One of the worst hamburgers I've ever eaten. Two thin patties stuck together no flavor, cheap bun. Fries were good. Dirty fries are not worth the cost.
Anyone saying this place is sooo good must’ve never tried literally all the other burger joints in the immediate surrounding area. The burger was just alright, the only thing that stood out from it was the high price. The chicken had a dirty deepfryer taste (this was the only food that wasn’t finished) and dirty fries we’re alright, again not great though. The do get three stars though as they do serve great beers, the staff we’re awesome and they share a building with the Made by Marcus ice cream.
What a great spot, honestly a great burger! If you like big Mac's but want them right here is the spot! That burger to bun ratio for me is perfect, I've always liked smaller smashed burgers. Never been a fan of the huge patties so this place just is so good. The chili cheese fries are legit, fries are cooked right 5 outta 5
One of the best burger joints in the city. Simple menu, great staff, fast service and the food was excellent. The hardest decision was either the Korea Burger or the Empire Burger. Just bring your best friend and share! The order of fries was big but i couldn't stop smashing them into my face. A great place in an old school revitalized neighborhood.
Staff were friendly, fries were good, burger was good up untill I found some plastic (or paper) in it? It was pretty burnt. I would have brought it up with the waitress but it didn't seem to be worth the hassle.
Best burgers around! Seriously, don’t sleep on this place, Lil ‘Empire makes the best burgers I’ve ever had. Even on a gluten free bun (I’m celiac) they are amazing. The would have them everyday if I could.
Highly recommend the Spicy Korean Chicken, or try stacking your Empire with Cheese with basically as many patties as you can fit in your mouth. These guys grind their own beef, and use all local ingredients (even the bun). Be prepared to spend about $4/person more than you mentally think a burger and fries cost, but hey at least you’re being an active participant in your community and supporting a small business.
Simply the best cheeseburger I've had in Calgary, it's simple and not overstuffed with toppings and the meat is perfectly done Unfortunately they put so much resources into making a good burger that the fries are completely lacking of any flavor, although they are perfectly cooked.
I had to get on here and leave my first review in about a year. The Lil' Empire Cheeseburger was the best I have had in years and years. Maybe forever. Just like I like it! Thin patties, gooey cheese, perfect bakery bun.so good.
Fantastic cheese burger. With America cheese overflowing The all natural, all beef burger, soft bun. This is what a cheese burger should taste like. WELL DONE.see you next time.
Well, they’ve done it. Best burger in town. For $12.great new facility, great atmosphere, friendly service, and killer burgers. Fries are excellent as well! Grab a beer as well and you’re all set. Open for lunches too! (Except Thursday).
The people who said it was a great burger clearly have never been to. Nash, Buchanan's, Clive, Five Guys, Briggs, Naina’s, Boogie’s, the Ship and Anchor or Gorilla Whale. Beers and Sodas are definitely 5 star. Root Beer cookies are good. Burger and fries, were a big MEH for me. Looks good in the pics. Good thing I also ordered a dog which was a little better than the underwhelming burger.
I love this place! Run by some fantastic people. The food is delicious! I had the chicken burger, with extra sauce for dipping (thank you Karen), dirty fries and a Vanilla rootbeer! I can't wait to come back with the whole family for rootbeer floats and cookies (oh my god the cookies)! Sadly all I got a picture of was the popcorn! Which is ridiculously addicting! Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a quality burger and great selection of adult pop and beer
Unbelievable cheeseburgers and chicken sandwiches. Seriously, I can't say enough about them. They are straightforward and the taste speaks for itself. Went for dinner and beers one night, and it was so good we went back the next day for lunch. The dirty fries are also delicious, with some hot dog croutons on top! Absolutely stop here for food. So so so good. The space and the vibe there is excellent, and the employees and owners are friendly and helpful.
