LOCAL Public Eatery 8th Avenue

Came for some drinks after dinner. Service was great even for as busy as it was. Good selection of cocktails, draught local beer, and shooter recommendations. Didn't try any food as our group had just ate dinner.

We ate at earls the night before same group but spent less time and drank and the bill was a lot more with similar food items, this place was excellent we went for football night and was perfect venue, our server (chargers jersey) was excellent and what i think may have been a supervisor came around a couple of times and invited us back, was a great experience, at earls we ate we paid and goodbye.check them out.

Had an amazing experience here and service was wonderful even though they were busy during pride weekend. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed the service and food.

Visited Local with some friends earlier tonight. Had some drinks and appies. The table lighting was very poor, it was half lit, and we could barely see the food or menus.
We ordered nachos to share, and there was little to no cheese on them, and the meat was over cooked.
The music selection was great however the acoustics and speakers were awful, which didn’t allow us to enjoy the music. We couldn’t handle it so we asked for our bill to leave.

Disappointing meal to end my Saturday visit to Calgary. I had Fish and Chips, and maybe it's because I have a higher standard for fish being being from the maritimes, but the fish tasted like nothing. I've had good fish in Calgary, so I know the region can do it!

The worst offender on the plate though were the fries. If you told me this place "made" their fries by going down the street, ordering fries from McDonalds and dumping them on the plate I wouldn't be surprised. They were thin barely crisp fries that tasted of nothing but salt - basically tasted like a McDonalds fry, which is not what I expect when I sit down at a restaurant and order Fish and Chips.

I also couldn't eat the coleslaw because it was completely overpowered by the taste of dill, although I will concede that it's probably more a preference of mine rather than it being bad. I don't like dill so I can't fairly judge that part of the meal.

The redeeming qualities of the place were that the staff were great, and the location/atmosphere were very nice. Too bad that food wasn't there to go with it.

My wife and I went out for dinner and had a wonderful experience, in large part due to our fantastic server! Kelsey was prompt with our drinks and meal and knew the menu inside and out. She was kind and funny and by the end of the evening we truly felt that we had made a friend. We’d go back just to visit her! Local outdid themselves in hiring her. As someone who has owned and operated restaurants in the past, she’s a prime hire! Thanks Kelsey, you made our night!
