Mai Mai - Viet Street Kitchen

The best vermicelli I have ever had! Seriously amazing & I will be going back often.
My mom can’t eat gluten or dairy & she found a few dishes she could eat which is awesome.
10/10 if you’re thinking of trying Mai Mai, do it!

I was quite excited when I knew they have banh mi serve there. So went there and got myself a cold cut banh mi and a bowl of grilled pork vermicelli. For some reason they took quite a long time to prepared the dishes, and I actually looked at the staff who made my banh mi was done very slowly. I wasn't sure whether because she was new to it or whatever, but luckily it tastes not bad, but not gonna lie the size of the banh mi is much smaller than other places but with higher price. For the vermicelli, grilled pork was ok but too oily, the vermicelli and the veggie that goes with was somehow tasteless and watery. So I was disappointed with that and it was overpriced. Give them a 3 stars for their politeness.

This was such a lovely dinner experience! It definitely wasn’t a typical Vietnamese restaurant with only Pho and Vermicelli bowls. The two things that caught my interest were the mini crepes with shrimp, and the green papaya salad. We also ordered the grilled beef banh mi, Saigon rolls, and green onion cake.

The flavours were so fresh and interesting in the green papaya salad! The crepes were different than a French crepe, it was hot straight from the kitchen. All the toppings on the crepes added flavour and weren’t just for decoration. I didn’t try the sandwhich but my boyfriend really liked it! It’s a pretty big sandwich and will keep you full. The variety and choices of menu items felt like there was something for everyone.

We ordered the deep fried icecream for dessert but accidentally received the banana spring roll. The owner immediately apologized and gave us a refund for the dessert. The banana spring roll was crispy on the outside and not too sweet. It wasn’t my favourite thing ever but regardless I was curious to try it anyway.

The restaurant owner and servers were very kind and brought out our food fairly quickly. The owner was so sweet! He was excited about having us at his new restaurant and asked us for feedback. I felt so welcomed and honestly had a really memorable dinner. I will definitely be bringing many friends here!

Good food and location. Just one complain is that the spring roll wrap they use is rice paper wrap.

Absolutely the best beef stew in Edmonton, fresh bread that comes with the order as well. Amazing coffee. This is my go-to spot from now on. I absolutely love the interior and as well as the staff. Super friendly. Will definitely be back. Definitely recommend this place.

Tried out MaiMai on a friends recommendation and must say it’s pretty good! The Viet stew is spot on and full of flavor (lots of tendon if you like that), and the vermicelli is decent too. Staff are very friendly will be back to try the rest of the menu some time. Glad to find a good Viet restaurant closer to home

Customer service is horrible. There was no acknowledge when we were waiting at the door. We are invisible standing there for quite some time.

Amazing salad rolls for very reasonable price. Drinks are bit expensive but food is amazing!

Finally a good Vietnamese sub south of the river! Great food and friendly service! We had the banh mi classic and the deep-fried bananas. Delicious!

I visited this place on a sunny weekend in March. The place was busy with a light atmosphere.

I was provided service immediately by competent staff. I ordered the pork spring roll, veggie roll, and an iced coffee.

While I waited a small amount of time it gave me time to soak in the atmosphere created by traditional ornaments and thoughtfully selected photographs.

The food was prepared quickly, thoughtfully packaged, and was delicious. I am a coffee lover, my favourite item was the coffee. Delicious.

Check this place out when you’re in the area it’s worth it.

Revised: Was told salad rolls had mint or basil. 11$ for three. They loaded the spring rolls up with cilantro. Mai Mai needs to understand and respect that most customers can tell the difference between Mint and Cilantro. So I am editing this review to give it 2 stars for the salad rolls, but 4 stars for the veggie spring rolls. So upgraded to a 3 star.

Consumers pay a lot for food these days so we should receive what was stated were the ingredients.

As for the owners response to them ruining our dinner. Both my wife and daughter tossed theirs into the bin after a bite.

Delicious pre-dripped ice coffee, but rather expensive considering you only get a few sips.

My family and I had the best meal here. Ordered the beef stew, chicken lemongrass vermicelli bowl, pork vermicelli bowl. All were delicious! Love not having to drive downtown anymore for great Vietnamese food! Service was fantastic! Will definitely be back! Not a big space and decor is very nice. Thanks for opening on the south side!

I was so excited to hear that a Viet street food restaurant had opened up on the Southside that against my better judgement, I hauled my family out and drove 45 mins across the city just to try Mai Mai. Disappointed is an understatement. We got there just before 2 pm and it wasn't busy at all (only 2 other tables). We quickly placed our order and patiently waited for our food. After 20 mins of waiting my kids started getting antsy but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since it just opened. By this time 2-3 other parties came in and ordered. About 40 mins after ordering, I noticed that the table next to us was getting all their food (3-4 dishes) even though they came in way later than us. At this point the only thing we got was the egg coffee we ordered. I went to speak to the server about where our food was and while she was apologetic, had no explanation other than she asked the kitchen to make our order first. Then a lady from the kitchen came out (who was also the one bringing out food to other tables) said she thought we already got our food. I found it odd she would say that considering our table was clear of dishes and she never once brought anything over to us. Neither one was taking responsibility for why our order somehow got forgotten. After an hour of waiting, we finally got fed up and asked for a refund. The server seemed embarrassed but the lady from the kitchen didn't seem too apologetic. I wish I could comment on how the food was but unfortunately, I can't considering we never got any part of our food order. Save your time and money and go somewhere if you are craving Viet food.

This place was delicious. I loved everything I tried and we tried quite a bit. I recommend the mini savory crepes! I can’t wait to go back.

Vietnamese food is one of my faves! This place is amazing! I’ve tried every Vietnamese restaurant and this one is spectacular, you can definitely taste how fresh it is! Not so bland and generic like the other places! When I went in everyone greeted me so welcoming! I could smell the fresh bread being baked! Yummy! I ordered five items to try and all were mouth watering! Presentation was perfect, my drink was and I also grabbed a order to go for lunch the next day This is my go to!

Four of us came in just before closing, waitress was very good about it. We ordered four items. 1 satè beef banh minh, 1 bánh tiêu with substituted with satè beef, instead of Bo kho because of the time, they had already ran out, a banh khóc and curry chicken with rice.everything came out quickly. Banh mi was very good, crunchy with soft inside, filling was nicely proportioned. Banh tieu was also very good.crispy without being dense, not too sweet or oily, filling was perfect. Banh khoc was delicious with the dipping sauce. Crunchy outside, just enough filling. It’s a must try.curry chicken was a lighter style curry, not too overpowering. Work really well over rice.over all everything was very good. Nice something different than all the regular Vietnamese restaurants. We will be coming back, highly recommend!

Loved this place! Different from your typical Vietnamese restaurant, but they have amazing authentic Viet food.

I tried to their Banh Mi Beef satay and Banh Tieu. Everything was delicious and fresh! Their bread is made from scratch, it is super fluffy and not too flaky.

Also tried their cocktails and had a great time. Service was amazing. Would definitely recommend and I’m definitely coming back!

Very comfortable place, with high quality food! The coconut chicken curry was cooked perfectly, as well as the vegetables in it.

Amazing little spot! Best green onion cakes I’ve ever had. Loved the lemongrass chicken on rice noodles with a spring roll and the Satay beef on rice. Try the Vietnamese coffee 1/2 sweet, so yummy.
