Amazing place to have a great hiking and see scenic water fall. The longest hike you could go is almost 2 hr looking around. The walk is so amazing and adventurous one will fall love with its surroundings. We went during day time and it was pretty busy, would recommend to go early morning when it is quite and u could take it beauty all alone lol.

Beautiful Canyon with many trail but the ice walk should be end of December to walk in the water
08 November 2023 14:51
Great place to visit! Walked almost to the 5th bridge and round trip took about an hour. It was icy, would recommend wearing crampons/ micro spikes.
04 November 2023 4:25
Very high pay off for the effort. You can make it a short hike and still see extraordinary sights, or make it much longer and see more!

The only thing to be aware of is it's quite popular so there will be lots of people
28 September 2023 1:26
Beautiful views of canyon, waterfall and river. Safe fenced trail and educational posters.
26 September 2023 11:52
We did this walk in June, after a day of unexpected snow fall. The path was slippery, but the snow gave extra appeal to the colors of the rocks/canyon and the river. The canyon is very narrow and deep in the beginning of the hike, so up to the third bridge you can hardly see the river. From the fourth bridge on the view and the canyon widens.

This is a must place to stop if you're anywhere near Jasper. I've been over a dozen times, and it never gets old. Summer or winter time, you'll still have a great experience. We'll be back soon, and I hope many more people check this place out as soon as possible.

Really nice canyon:) it is spectacular to see what nature can create:) nice walk, awesome view and for free:)
12 August 2023 11:06
Truly magnificent. Follow the signage for a beginner hike and keep following it for even more! If you go far enough, there is a shale wall with a waterfall going down the side of it that is really something to see. Sorry, I cannot recall how long the hike is to reach that point.

Maligne Canyons top offers a magnificent view, and the water flow is truly astonishing, making it a wonderful trail to explore on foot. Though, it's worth noting that the water levels were lower during my July visit compared to my previous experience in early spring in 2022. Nonetheless, the beauty of the place makes it a worthwhile destination to visit.
26 December 2021 20:17
I’m always in awe of Gods incredible creation! The views are stunning! And a great little walk, doable for most with various options to go shorter or longer. Watch your steps on the stairs in winter; would do one good to wear footwear with good grip when there’s ice and snow.
24 December 2021 17:54
Totally worth it. Very long trail and a tough one. Don't try to go with babies or stroller. 6 view points see as many as you like.
24 December 2021 8:07
28 November 2021 13:21
This is an awesome area to explore there is a ton to see it can be quite busy but we'll worth the wait to when viewpoints get busier
25 November 2021 22:27
Beautiful! Stunning! Remarkable! Great place for families. Walking trails aren't long. Highly recommended.
23 November 2021 22:24
This was a beautiful hike! It was great how the hike it broken up in sections based on the type of hiker you are, would definitely go again
22 November 2021 5:42
16 November 2021 11:28
Nice hike in the late fall with lots of colors. Creek just starting to freeze, which also meant the pathway was getting a little slick in areas from freezing mist. Would love to hike in the canyon when it is frozen.
14 November 2021 8:59
By chance I could not get up to Maligne lake due to snowfall and discovered on way back down the Canyon lookout. Excellent trails short and long to spend the morning away.
30 October 2021 0:33
Always wonderful to see! The canyon is a true Marvel of Nature and offers a wide variety of areas to explore. Very low water flows at the end of this dry year- interesting to see the changes.
26 October 2021 12:01
What a wonderful nature made mountain with deep water.very nice ambiance.

However, washrooms were terrible, some users seems doesn't know how to maintain the cleanliness of the site.

Need follow up all the time.
25 October 2021 18:58
Vue spectaculaire malgré la fine pluie et la grisaille. Il semblerait qu'on pourrait repérer des fossile mais malheureusement les emplacements ne sont pas signalé. Personne les a aperçu ce qui est dommage
16 October 2021 19:53
Amazing narrow canyon gouged out by the Athabasca river over the millennia. Useful descriptive narratives line the trail. Most of the trail from the 5th bridge is not overly challenging.
14 October 2021 20:02
You can easily do bridge 1 to 4 within an hour with time for pictures. The hike was easy as well. Really enjoyed our time here. Glad we didnt skip it.
08 October 2021 19:06
We were pleasantly surprised about how dramatic the canyon is. The views from the first few bridges are terrific. The walk is slightly steep on the way back but we’ll worth it.
04 October 2021 11:51
If you love a hearty hike with a view, you should visit the place. The hike is under a thick canopy of trees with atmosphere filled with rushing sound of water flowing through the Malign Canyon on the side. The canyon ranges from very deep to shallow at places and the hike provides plenty of viewpoints scattered across the course. More adventurous can take the not so lengthy but pretty steep hill hike on the way back from bridge 5
24 September 2021 4:54
20 September 2021 2:11
This is a must stop. Parking was a little hard to get when we went around 1 pm on a Saturday but circled a few times and got a spot. The hike down to the different bridges was nice and the stops were amazing views. Getting back up was more challenging but lots of places to stop on the way up. The flowing water was so cool to listen to as well. Great stop along the way to Spirit Island boat cruise.
10 September 2021 19:24
Great paths, great views, we only went past way with a large part of people, I will definately return to hike all of the paths.
27 August 2021 9:23
J'ai adoré ce site, la couleur de l'eau est splendide et le canyon très spectaculaire! Allez le visiter avec un guide pour en apprendre davantage!
26 August 2021 8:55
It's amazing what a few hundred years of water flow can do. If you have little ones, this is the perfect short hike for them. You can see bridges 1 and 2 in a short 20 minute hike that takes you around and back to the parking lot. For more adventurous hikers, you can visit all 6 bridges. Maligne Canyon is a short drive from Jasper and definitely a recommended destination for all. There is also a tea house by the parking lot for anyone needing a break.
15 August 2021 16:37
Really amazing place for hiking on the lap of nature! It is spectacular. There are six bridges and about 4 km complete trail loop for the walk and you never feel exhausted while hiking. The water is seen as if playing hide and seek in the canyon; somewhere it has hidden in a deep tunnel and other places it has opened up as a beautiful waterfall with soothing whistle. You forget everything as you walk there. We enjoyed hiking there in early August and felt the closeness with nature in true sense. After being in Jasper if you do not reach there you will miss a lot.
11 July 2021 13:40
Beautiful scenery. It would be a bit scary if you were afraid of heights. Path is in good shape and was not muddy. Was low traffic when we went so was able to walk comfortably with the dog without a lot of people crowding.
10 July 2021 5:23
Beautiful trail. We started from 1st bridge and from 5th bridge complete the loop 7H. As you cross the bridge it gets more and more beautiful.
09 July 2021 2:00
Even you are the least athletic person in the world, this hike is still very doable. Don't stress if you can't visit all 6 bridges, as the shirt loop between the first and second bridges is probably the most beautiful part of the walk.
23 June 2021 8:28
Awesome to do a walk with the family.not recommended to take stroller, it will be easy if you take a baby carrier, amazing natural place, very good to spend couple of hours or just a short time on the small routes. We did the small and medium route we have 2 little kids and they did the whole way with not problem.
21 June 2021 10:49
Start at bridge 6 and work your way to the top. Its not a difficult hike at all. Breaksnout into differnt routes. Take the left route it doesnt feel as touristy.
15 June 2021 23:14
Amazing experience and the highlight of our week trip in the rockies. Recommend taking the upper trail and then lowest trail back to visit bridges 1-5.

We took the scenic drive up to maligne Lake after our hike and it was impeccable.
08 June 2021 15:56
Beautiful canyon and great family hike. Not too challenging but lots of stairs and climbing on the way back. Nice to see in different seasons.
07 June 2021 15:06
Fantastic place. Slippery in winter so make sure you bring winter cleats as many of the steps are covered in ice, so be careful. Beautiful scenery with the frozen waterfalls.
06 June 2021 8:39
Was very nice peaceful place the food and service was 5 star delicious.
One of my favorite places.
The service is amazing.
28 May 2021 23:01
Maligne canyon is a great for a family hike. From the parking lot it's all downhill so on the way back it's all uphill which some would find difficult I'm sure. There a lot of different viewpoints to stop and see and the waterfall down the canyon is beautiful. It can be busy so during a pandemic it could be hard to socially distance going down the trails. It's great though so no complaints.
21 May 2021 11:36
This is another place with an amazing natural beauty. The most important thing in the trail to the bridges was the hand-rail to hold on. This was missing in most of the other trails where we went. We went to the first, second and a little bit of the third bridge and it was beautiful. Even though the water was frozen we had a good time overall. Me and wife enjoyed it this time and we will definitely come back in the Summer. I recommend people to were spikes and shoe chains during winter.
20 May 2021 0:15
Spectacular views. Area outside guard rails/fences extremely/fataly hazardous. Remain inside safety boundries/control children/pets.
12 May 2021 22:21
Amazing views and experience overall! Highly recommend checking this place out if you're staying in Jasper. We went during the winter and it was super cool to walk around in the canyon.
12 May 2021 2:44
A cold winter travel in March, the bottoms are still frozen, so we went down the canyon and got some magnificent shots. Beware of stomping into icy holes! Not too long of a trail, but better wear ice cleats, some tricky walking on the ice.
06 May 2021 11:19
Beautiful every single time.was wonderful to see it in the ice! Thanks for giving so many added trails to allow more experienced hikers the ability to stay away from the crowds.

Stunning always!
19 February 2019 6:42
Amazing place to visit, definitely worth your time. I went in the winter, absolutely serene. I would definitely want to access the trails in the summer.
24 January 2019 13:02
The falls is beautiful! This is also a place where black swifts nests (they're endangered). Although I wasn't able to see any, there was information about them and it was still neat to see their habitat.
19 January 2019 6:39
A must-see for anyone passing through or staying in Jasper. Can be a 5 minutes walk from the parking lot, a 30 minute loop (recommended), or a 2 hour hike that all start and end at the trailhead.
28 December 2018 9:50
I was a little underwhelmed with this attraction compared to some of the other mountain hikes and viewpoints in the park. That being said, it is still an impressive sight, nauseatingly deep. Definitely worth a stop if it is cloudy or rainy and the mountains are obstructed.
26 December 2018 19:28
Maligne Canyon is a spectacularly beautiful place to go for a hike and marvel at this incredible natural wonder. There are plenty of photo opportunities along this scenic trail. I hiked here in the summer of 2017.

The canyon is located only a ten minute drive from the town of Jasper and is easily accessible. It's a popular place for visitors to explore, but if you arrive early in the morning (7: 30 or 8 am), you will beat most of the crowds.

You can start the hike from various points along the canyon. I started from the parking lot at the Fifth Bridge and hiked uphill along the canyon to the First Bridge and then downhill on the way back, which I preferred.

The trail follows alongside the canyon the entire hike and the scenery gets more and more beautiful the closer you get to the First Bridge. Although there was some elevation gain, the inclines were fairly gentle and nothing too difficult or steep at all.

The narrow canyon was so deep and beautiful and the surrounding scenery was gorgeous! It was incredible to imagine how the power of water had eroded and carved this gorge over many years. I actually preferred Maligne to Johnston Canyon in Banff and found it to be more breathtaking and less crowded and touristy.

There were incredible viewpoints of the canyon from the Fourth, Third, Second and First Bridges and at various points along the way too.

There were bathrooms at the trailhead of the Fifth and First Bridges in the parking area and a restaurant near the First Bridge as well.

The hike from the Fifth Bridge to the First and back took me around 2.5 hours including my many stops for taking photos and admiring the awe-inspiring natural beauty.

If you are staying in Jasper, Maligne Canyon is definitely worth exploring. It was one of the highlights from my trip to the area.

Absolutely a stunning park with a natural wonder just out of view. The location has plenty of parking, it’s free, there’s a gift shop and restaurant with public washrooms.

The canyon itself is stunning with amazing rock formations, running water and many waterfalls. There’s an additional bonus if you get to see the canyon with snow and ice.

Be prepared by wearing good walking attire and footwear, and pay attention to the path you take as the further you descend, the more to have to climb on the way back out.
31 October 2018 3:32
The water was falling, but I'd hardly call it a waterfall. Waterfall implies a certain level of water that falls and then it goes down and you're like, "Wow, I never knew. " However, and then I was at the canyon and so many people on the trail and the trees were pretty nice. Overall I'd say that the place could use a little tidying up. I saw some trees and the dirt was dirty. Plus a few squirrels. Where there's smoke there's fire they say but you know when I was there it was pretty smokey. It was August and there were probably fires in British Columbia and you have to feel bad for them I mean real bad man. In other words, we were walking and the trail had stairs and the whole system was pretty good. The people there who made the stairs, and they were pretty good stairs, they make the best stairs in Canada. You have to admire how they make the stairs.

I miss it already, and we only left Jasper 3 days ago! I would suggest going directly to the overflow parking lot first- the primary one was chaos! Six bridges offer great views and informational signage. It's worth going to all bridges, although it results in a longer walk back to the car. Trails are all quite walkable for all ages and skills, although you do need to be mindful of roots, etc. Great opportunity to mountain bike as well- downhills and single track throughout. Lots of tourists (too many?) so you have to be patient for photo ops, since some people can take longer than necessary- the scenery is on the "other" side of the camera, people!
12 October 2018 10:56
While it is gorgeous, and sure to impress many, I wasn’t as wowed as other spots. I did get to see a beautiful white tail deer, but other than that, it wasn’t a spot I was overly impressed by. Don’t get me wrong, it’s the Canadian Rockies, so it’s naturally beautiful, but I didn’t get the magical feeling that I got at many other places and that’s okay. Not every spot is going to do that for everyone. If I had to do it again, I would not make the stop here and spend my time exploring something else.
12 October 2018 10:06
A moderate trail from the top of the canyon to the bottom for about 40 min 1 way to complete 5 bridges. A lot longer if you want to get to the 6th bridge. You may want to just drive to the 6th bridge by road.
07 October 2018 8:38
A great spot for taking in the canyon. There are seven Bridges to enjoy the view from at your own pace. There are plenty of spaces to take pictures and to rest and relax between the hike. Definitely wear good hiking shoes as there is slippery rock in some places due to the water. The first few bridges are closer together for a shorter hike. Do take water bottles with you and use the restroom before starting the journey.
12 September 2018 11:40
Loved it! Great walking trail along the canyon. Would recommend going later on in the day to avoid the crowds. We walked to the 5th bridge which took around 1 hour. I’d also recommend taking the alternative route back to the car park. There’s a fairly steep walk up to the top of the hillside but once you reach the top, the views across the valley to Mt. Robson are stunning.
06 September 2018 18:39
We had already been impressed with Maligne Lake, so upon leaving there we stopped at the canyon. Its just 12-miles outside of Jasper along Maligne Lake Road, and you might even see some wildlife along the shoulders. Maligne Canyon is the place where the Maligne River goes underground. Some bio-dye studies have shown that the underground passages are more extensive than first thought.
The canyon is deep at about 160 feet, but narrows down to just 6.5 feet, and the river pours through some very narrow places. The trail is easy and the sights make this trip very worthwhile. There is free parking, as well.
