Best South Indian food in Calgary. I can honestly say this is my go to restaurant. Excellent prices and staff are very friendly. Try this place, you will not be disappointed.
I've not been there yet. This my pre emptive review. I'm a celiac, but unlike Michelle aka Basket Ball Moms, husband. I have a spine, and a tongue in my mouth so I'll pipe and tell them to not cross contaminate.
It's a shame your immuno compromised son has such a weakling of a father.
Embarked on a culinary journey at this charming Indian spot and tried the Chicken Changezii – mind-blown! It was a flavor fiesta that danced on my taste buds. The dining hall may be tiny, but it's like a cozy spice haven. The aroma alone transports you to the vibrant streets of India. If you want a passport to flavor town, this place is your one-way ticket!
A bit grubby and worn out at first glance but large delicious portions and many options. I got curries, coconut rice, average prices. This is probably one of the tastier Indian places I've visited and I've been to 2 Indian provinces.
Probably the worst experience I've ever had in any style of restaurant!
It all started off ok, we were seated and served in a timely manner (it wasn't busy though). The menu was quite basic, with not too many choices of things you would expect to see on an indian menu (obvious omissions included items such as mushroom rice, along with numerous popular curry dishes).
However, we made do with what was available and found something to order. The food didn't take too long to arrive, probably around 10-15 minutes. The waitress delivered our respective dishes and then left. We continued waiting, expecting her to return with the plates, cutlery and napkins, but she didn't. So I had to actually go up to the counter and ask for them as it was evident she was not returning.
Once we were able to actually start eating, I was disappointed with mine and my son felt his was "ok" at best. One of the side items ordered was a garlic naan bread, and it was flat and crispy, nothing like a naan bread should be. The curry, despite having asked for it be be spicy (I had ordered the chicken korma), was fairly tasteless and the quality of the chicken used was poor.
The staff seemed miserable as if they didn't want to be there, especially our waitress. Thankfully this is not a local restaurant for me as I was visiting my son who is at MRU, but I would definitely not go here again or recommend it to anyone. We relied on the star ratings as our guide for choosing and on this occasion it failed us.
The food is excellent. The mediocre atmosphere and the potentially long wait to get the food are not so great, but it's the best option that I know of for South Indian food in Calgary.
Nice ambiance, food is great here. Ample space parking lot. Customer service is also good. Never try their soup, though. It was not at all close to what we ordered, but all other food was great.
Tried their Chicken 65 Biriyani. To my surprise it was Biriyani rice and Chicken 65 on top of it. Disappointed, no chicken flavour at all. Their South Indian Butter Milk was amazing. Thick and flavourful.
Went for an Indian thali. We ordered 2 thalis, one vegetarian and the other non vegetarian. The entire experience was outstanding from the time we got sitted to completing our lunch. 2 curries, rice, Naan, pokoras, and to our surprise, a masala dosa. All items were well spiced and hot served. Yes, rice pudding is known as kher included. I won't mention how reasonable the lunch was. Highly recommend for this thali.
The food here was really good and they offered some interesting dishes that aren't found at your typical indian restaurant. The thali had a nice variety and everything in the thali was excellent. The dosai was also very good, super thin and crispy. All the food was nicely seasoned and spiced. And the servers were super nice. This is definitely getting added to our regular rotation.
Went here with a few colleagues from work for the first time. It's in a corner of the strip mall and easy to miss.
All but 1 of us had the daily lunch special which is served with 2 items of the day, naan, rice, uthappam, a starter and dessert. You can get it vegetarian or non (which I had).
Our server was really welcoming, helpful with suggestions and refilling beverages. The food took a pretty good wait until it came out but really enjoyed the variety of items that were served on a platter and at a reasonable price. My water glass had some dirt stuck to the outside.
The spicy chicken dish that was served was very flavorful but only had a few pieces of meat in the much larger curry. The naan was nice and buttery and the Gulab Jamun was much less crumbly and more flavorful than usual.
I absolutely loveeee the food here, the best garlic naan I’ve had in my life. The curries were all super rich and fresh definitely a 10/10 Indian food experience. Also a veryyyy hood chicken 65. The service was a tad slow but that’s b/c it was so busy so try to eat there when it’s a little slower if possible.
The food is good, we ordered dosas and the sambar was very tasty. One of the servers is very nice and helpful (the bold guy), such a kind soul. The reason I'm just given 3 stars is the time that takes to be served and that the bathroom needs a deep clean cuz is very dirty and dusty.
