One of my favourite stores in YEG!
I’ve been shopping at MEC for many years!
I still remember that fateful day my ex bf took me there and it’s been one solid relationship since.
It’s outfitted me thru my many outdoor adventures.singled, coupled & family.
Bikes, helmets, winter gear, summer gear, kayaking gear, biking gear, you name it they have supplied it!
Their in store bike services are great too.
Great customer service and their rock solid guarantee has always been their cornerstone.

Great selection of outdoor brands, employees are always friendly and helpful, working with what you actually need and not just trying to upsell you.
Also MEC always has the best sale prices for items!

I miss the old days of MEC. Sadly it was Mostly Expensive Clothing for the last few years of the Co-operative, and it looks like the new "Company" is just more of the same.

The anti-theft tag was not removed, which required a second visit the next day. There was no apology, and at the end of the transaction, there was not even a “Thank You” or “Have a nice day” or anything like that. How is staff trained - these are basic things that are consistently absent.

MEC has a reputation for unfriendly (but technically competent) service - while not having a very diverse workforce, which is representative of its clientele as well. As a person of colour, I still do not feel comfortable shopping with MEC after all of these years - and time and again it has been a negative experience, like this one.

Wicked selection of clothes and camping stuff. If you are a fan of darn tough socks, this is the store to check out.

I recently purchased a smart trainer for my road bike at MEC on the South side. This is an industry that is completely new to me thus my knowledge is minimal. Not knowing much about road biking and especially trainers I felt uneasy and out of my element walking into MEC. The reception I had received by the gentlemen in the bike department completely exceeded any expectations I had. I wish I had gotten his name but he went out of his way and took his time to explain to me everything I required. I really appreciated that he sold me exactly what would meet my needs and did not try to up sell me something that would not resonate with my experience level. I felt extremely appreciated as a customer and felt listened to. I have worked in retail sales in the past and hope I exuded half as much excitement and knowledge to the people I helped as I received that day. I had a great overall experience and I will be back.

Exceptional customer service from David.
Most shoe sections of various stores feature a lazy worker. This was not the case at MEC South.
David was extremely helpful, demonstrating a strong work ethic and respectful, professional demeanor.
He could have done the bare minimum, but chose to help us get the best service possible.
By just being attentive, responsive and swift with his service, he's made a lasting impression that will guarantee my future business with MEC.

Awesome service. Emma helped me get the perfect light but warm winter boots. All set for hiking and ice fishing!

Wonderful staff, very large selection. I went specifically for a headlamp and was pleasantly surprised by friendly staff and a bountiful amount of very decent gear at a good quality. Prices are decent if you know what you are looking for.

Today we went into Mec for some clothing gear & a hammok. We were in need of some help & proper guidance on gear. We not only had fabulous support, we also got it from a few staff members & the store manager. Thank you MEC for your help & support.

Great overall store with awesome variety of products, but they were a bit lacking in clothing for teenagers.

Called to ask for someone to confirm they physically have an item in stock and not just on their computer system and online. I live out of town and have to drive a couple hours to pick stuff up. I’ve had it happen before where they say it’s in stock and says so online only to show up and not have it and be out 4 hours of driving and the cost of gas. Trying to avoid this I called and the response to my inquiry was “we don’t do stock checks. ” So I have to drive all the way in to find out if your inventory is correct rather than you having someone walk 100’ across the store to confirm it. Not sure how checking inventory falls outside the purview of a retail job description but just another reason to go to a competitor who is willing to do their job.

Bought a Black Diamond backpack from MEC worth $300, after about 5 hikes the stitching holding the hip belt let go. Was told there was nothing that can be done

Great place if you are a normal size person. Tough finding tall and thin sizes on the floor. Update: with MEC you always paid a premium price but the warranty was second to none. Now that they are no longer a CO-OP they still have premium pricing but lost the fantastic warranty policy.
I was trying to return lightly used 2.5 yr old Merrill boots that let water in on one foot. In the past it would not have been an issue but I understand that though very lightly used they are older.
I have shifted my shopping to other avenues for this and staff attitude. They still have a great selection of products and ship their products most places.

I would recommend going to the other mec downtown. They are very picky with returns here considering the price they ask for most gear.

I’ve been a member of MEC for over 20 years. And will no longer support them. Per government regulations someone exempt from masking does not need to show proof yet MEC wants to support Tierney and provide a document of proof. Shame on you MEC for supporting this Tierney and not allowing Canadians to be free in their own country.

Mitch in footwear was very knowledgeable and helpful today and even did a search online to help me find something similar to what I was looking for (since it had been discontinued). Thanks Mitch!

We had a blast at this store - we moved in from SK and were having a tough time finding the bike parts we needed for our kids so this store was just super awesome and great!
We found everything we needed and the staff went above and beyond to help us out - the man at the bike parts section even gave me a couple of presta valve adapters (my daughter took the pump we had in the house with her to Saskatoon for her summer vacation - and I could not get air into my tires with the car compressor we had coz of the presta valve issue - thanks my friend for helping us out!)

Went to MEC yesterday to find an travel backpack for our upcoming trip! We were greeted numerous times with friendly helpful staff and asking if we needed any help with anything! Was a wonderful warm greeting! Kudo’s to staff for good service!

It’s great to see that a company is considering their staffs safety even when restrictions are listed. Way to go on that one MEC.

The girl (I think Sam) in footwear was nice and helpful and anyone else I saw along the way greeted with a smile. It’s also nice that first words out of someone’s mouths isn’t “can I help you find anything” or along those lines.

MEC has tremendous products and customer service. You know when you shoo there that you are seeing the best stuff.

I love the quality the of their products. Plus the unique products they sell will surprise you. The staff are very knowledgeable and more helpful than 99% of any other businesses. I highly recommend this business.

Government experts say masks are not required. However, MEC is enforcing masks with security guards at the door. I Felt very unwelcome.

My first impression of this store was that the prices were very high. Don't let that stop you from going hiking, there are gear stores in Edmonton with much more reasonable prices. However, I was able to find a pair of decent pants.

The next day, I ordered hiking boots with a pick-up from this store. I paid for them and received an email that it was ready. When I came to the store and opened the box though, there were completely different shoes inside! It was not even the same brand. I was lucky that I decided to check.

The associates started looking for the correct pair but didn't find it anywhere. They issued a refund. I'm going backpacking for a week this Sunday and was counting on getting those boots. Really disappointed! And when I contacted Customer Service by email they didn't even reply.

Just dropped off my bike. I know I dropped it at MEC so I have a peace mind that all will be well

The most helpful guy named Garry took time to show me all the options and seemed to know everything about anything! He really seems to love telling me about watches and his excitement was contagious. Best experience at MEC I’ve ever had! And I ended up with the coolest watch! The best people work at MEC!

No masks needed in Alberta but MEC needs them. Their stupidity to require masks does not supercede the provincial guidelines. I took my money elsewhere.

Very disappointed in this place now. It used to be a great source for unique things nobody else had and now they seem to be dropping those items and focusing on high end clothing, sunglasses, shoes, etc. They used to be synonymous with canoeing and today I couldn't find one canoeing accessory.they've all been replaced with kayak equipment. Prices are sky high and inventory is terrible.unless you want to spend a fortune on clothing. Disappointed.

I went there to pick up an online order, the staff was able to make me feel welcomed just from the short interaction. Fantastic service overall!

I took my 80 year old mother in to find suitable walking shoes for her. The associate was happy to show her multiple pairs of shoes until she found the right pair despite having three other customers at the same time. Thanks MEC!

Always had a great experience. Every staff member I've met were very knowledgeable and gave great advice on equipment.

This store is so inspiring to me when I walk around and see all of the gadgets and gear that I can buy to go on my next adventure! I’ve bought rock climbing shoes and have started wall climbing. I always ask the associates for their opinion as they are very knowledgeable and friendly) The gear that I have purchased is very durable and will last you a long time if you’re not too rough on them. I’m rough on runners, and I am absolutely in love with Solomon runners, they have an aggressive grip, which is great for trail running or doing a tough mudder course! Happy trails lead to MEC!

MEC has great products, I usually go to look at the bike tools and accessories. The camping selection is huge

I just had my bike fixed today. Very good customer service and went beyond my expectation. Patrick, the asian guy bike mechanic, and the other gentleman who's quite old, was very helpful. I had my bike bleed serviced today and Patrick noticed that my stem bolts were loose and so he tightened it, free of charge. If it wasn't for him it would be a disaster if I rode it downhill. Highly recommended this place! I hope those guys will stay as enthusiastic always! I can't express my gratitude to those two guys! I hope they can read this note since i wasn't really able to thank them properly.

I have never had a better shoe shopping experience. Glen is such an expert and taught me why I was having issues with my current shoes and what to look for. He explained my foot shape and its needs. He was so knowledgeable and I felt he truly cared that I left with what I needed. Here’s hoping these new trail running shoes do the trick to fix my issues! Thank you glen and mec would definitely recommend and will absolutely be back!

Went in to get some kayaking gears and the guy that helped me was very knowledgeable and advise me properly. Lots of good stuffs in there with great pricing!

Super helpful staff. Called about a bike tube I'd been Searching for and the man I spoke to knew right away that they carried it and put it at the bike shop for me. Great customer service.

Had a really bad experience with the service, Don was very rude and made me feel uneducated about what I was asking him. Will not be back at this location because of this awkward unnecessary engagement.

From what I could see “colin” and “ravi” were rather rude to the people who work under them? Which is a shame because they were friendly and helpful
