Medicine Hat Regional Hospital

I went emergency due to some severe pain in my lower leg. They processed me quickly and after a brief wait I got to see a doctor. He recommended an ultrasound to rule out blood clots. The ultrasound technician was informative and explained the procedure clearly. After I saw the doctor again and he explained I had a ruptured Baker’s cyst. And explained the exercises I needed to do.
Four days later I am almost pain free.
I felt the need to write this after reading some reviews. As far as I'm concerned they were excellent. They went out their way to help me. The entire crew is five star.

I have nothing but admiration for the operations of the MH Regiinal Hospital. I have had several cancer treatments and different procedures since moving here from BC in May 2022. The staff has always been friendly, compassionate and professional. The facility is clean, spacious and bright.

This place sucks.
My complaint was swept under the carpet and made to watch everyone who came before and after me got through and leave me sitting for over 6 hours.
I was told by the triage nurse that my matter was not serious and the nurses prioritizing based on the nature of patients complaints.
I have been sitting for over 6 hours waiting. I was given the option leave or wait.
Not even animals are treated like that.

Is there a way to have our own private Hospitals" such as private Schools and so forth?
Where people can fully support themselves?
My health, my responsibility.

Came to the emergency room July 3rd at 12: 30am and left at 1: 15am. Overheard the doctor, the 2 nurses who worked in triage/check in laughing and gossiping at one of the patients who was clearly there for help and heard them say “I pray this girl is not pregnant but if she is than we won’t need to medicate her because she’s plenty medicated right now” and I heard them all laugh. They didn’t say nice things either about my situation. I’m very disappointed with the staff talking this way about normal people coming in for help. The old check in lady was very very very rude.

Got here at 4: 30a.m so I wouldn’t have to wait forever to see a doctor. Not a soul in the waiting room but yet I’m still here 6 hours and counting. The night nurse doing check in’s is extremely rude. Maybe time to let that one retire.

I went in to emergency at 1: 00 am in the morning and didn't leave until noon (they let me sleep in a room).

Being a nurse is probably one of the toughest jobs, so I really appreciate how caring and attentive they were while I was in extreme pain for gallbladder stones. The initial morphine they gave me was worthless, but they gave me something else and I could finally get some rest and brought me a blanket. <3

Went back to get my gallbladder surgically removed and it was timely and I was treated great! Thank you MHRH for diagnosing my pain; drastically improved my quality-of-life.

Incompetent. To ensure you get adequate diagnosis & treatments go anywhere but the MH hospital.

Gave birth here last January and this hospital has the best nurses and student nurses (LDR and NICU) in the whole country! They treated me and my little one like family. Thank you NICU nurses - Amy, Jen, Crystal, Dakota, Lisa, Wendy, Alison and LDR nurses- Laurie, Karen & Brittany ️

They, have helped me many times. But over all it really depends, some days you get great staff, some days the opposite.

I will always give the benifit of the doubt on long days and stressfull shifts. But after some long surgery stays here, some behavour isn't exceptable.

But over all, since the updates and renovations, wait times have been fairly quick and the care qaulity has increased!

I would definitely reccomend going there if you are in need, as its your health and no matter what its the best choice for you!

If you are really struggling with suicidal thoughts and need help. Don't get admitted to the psychiatric unit. You will not find help. The nurses/aids are very kind and do a wonderful job so this posted review does not reflect them in the matter.
There is no reliable or beneficial support system in place to obtain help.

The psychiatrist's that work on the ward care only for their own agenda. Dont bother expressing your concerns because they don't listen to you and disregard your thoughts on any matter. For the 10 minutes you speak with them (a week) they assume they know whats best for you without giving attention and hearken and sadly at the worst possible time in patients life's. Please do better for thr people in need, before the immediate push to an anti psychotic. Be respectful, we are all human.

Long wait for nothing. Took my pressure twice for absolute no reason. Guy nurse was giving emotional responces and attitude. I suggest Lay off the soy and estrogen.

My wait time was 9 days! That's right, 9 days! Was there for stomach pains in Monday, didn't have time to look at me after waiting for 7 hours in the ER, next day I went to the walk-in, which they gave me a note telling the ER staff to see me as they believed my gallbladder needed to be removed. Waiting another 6 hours for them to give me a pain pill and send me home. Had an ultrasound the next day at BGSA radiology, they tell me to go back to the ER because something's wrong. So back I go, wait another 7 hours only to have the staff tell me to leave because the doctor doesn't have time to see me! Make an appointment with a surgeon the next day, which she calls the ER and books me in for emergency gallbladder surgery, so I go back to the ER wait another 7 hours only to have the ER doctor tell me he didn't want to do the surgery. Do another ultrasound the next day finally get admitted and have another surgeon review it and finally book me in for surgery. Once they discharged me that's when they finally told me I also had an umbilical hernia and they repaired it without telling me. I was in and out of the hospital for 7 out of 9 days, multiple blood tests 2 MRI's, 2 x-rays and 3 ultrasounds later. It took them to cut me open to finally find out I had a hernia as well and that every other doctor was right my gallbladder needed to be removed. Terrible terrible place. You are better off with a rusty knife doing the work yourself in your own kitchen using WebMD!

Wait time is just ridiculous, the wait time online and staff will say 35 minutes but you will wait 4.5 hours just in the waiting room alone before you get put into another room to wait for even LONGER. Probably the worst hospital for wait times.

Let me preface this by saying that the kind, compassionate and professional nurses/doctors are truly appreciated. Unfortunately, they are now the minority in their workplace and because of that they are judged unfairly.

Brought my mom in by ambulance at 10 pm.with a heart attack. Waited two hours in the “bay” before we even got into the ER. The ER doctor was arrogant and dismissive and negligent. This wasn’t mom’s first heart attack so we somewhat knew the drill. Long story short…17 (no that is not a typo) hrs later she is finally admitted to the so called cardiac ward. There was absolutely no reason for the wait other than a Dr.who chose to spend time on his phone and chit chat about golf with co-workers. I had not one but two requests by staff to report this and for their sakes I am going to take up this crusade.

My mom is 88 unvaxxed and had refused the PCR test (she had one last stay and has had complications ever since). She beat Covid a couple of months ago so is no threat to anyone but, to be verbally referred to as “that natural one” in a snide tone by a nurse as she was brought onto the floor was more judgement than she deserved and yes, reports are being submitted.

Several bad experiences in the past few months- all with Hospital administration making up their own rules as they go. Both during my birth and with my grandma being in the hospital. The nurses and doctors are great and that is this hospital’s only saving grace. If you can go elsewhere to avoid the administration here, I would. Also when the lady called to apologize for kicking my mom out while I was giving birth (which should have been allowed as per AHS rules) she really couldn’t get it through her head why it was upsetting to me. She is apparently the director of women’s health so that’s scary.

Arrived in pain, left in pain. 3 hours to wait for a Tylenol after I specifically mentioned Tylenol does not work for me. I was floored when the doctor said: “you don’t look like your in pain” as if to classify how everyone may experience pain or show it. I guess when I said it was the worse pain in my life (and I’ve delivered a baby) it meant nothing unless I had to cry? ! The best thing about this visit was the nursing student who turned down the lights for my migraine. Super embarrassed that this is my hometowns hospital as a current nursing student. Should’ve just stayed home and went to another town next opportunity.

The experience I had at the Medicine Hat Hospital was amazing!

The Nurses, Doctors, Neurologists, Housekeeping and the MRI Tech were so helpful and friendly. I appreciate every single one of them this Holiday season! ️️

Was in Emergency yesterday here and had the best experience ever. All the staff was exceptional and a huge shout out to Dr. Henry Faul. I have never met such a kind or caring physician.

Waited in the hospital for 7 hours because my girlfriend had severe pain in her overies and her family doctor recommended going to the ER. Nurses are rude as hell, no help at all. I’m sitting here worried we might not be able to have kids and I’m watching 3 nurses sit and chit chat. Worst place in Alberta

Terrible place, I waited with a broken toe in the waiting room for 4 hours then waited another hour and a half in a room, x-ray only took 5 mins, then back to the room to wait another hour, finally doctor came, I cannot complain about the pain I was in however the time it took was rediculus, the only reason it took so long was because I wasn't screaming in pain. We pay these people with our taxes, but they take there sweet time in helping you. One of the only hospitals I've been to and its always a terrible time because of the wait and the nurses love to ask eachother about there weekends instead of helping you.

No urgancy, its like that longer they keep you here the more they get paid. Emergency doctors are awful.

Showed up at the ER at 10: 30, my wife had shortness of breath, and extremely uncomfortable chest for a couple days, they checked her in, after sitting for two hours, numerous people have been let in with us still sitting. This place is a joke, I am from Saskatchewan and I hope I never get sick in Medicine Hat. Not my only bad experience, my mother in law was admitted for a week and the nurses were more worried about gossiping at the nurse station then checking in on her, when I asked they scoffed at me. Our tax dollars hard at work people.

Dr. Faul was extremely comforting, compassionate and understanding. Seen that I had a full work up regarding my health concerns. Also the new nurse from Brooks, wow. You both were very understanding and helpful. Words can’t express how grateful I was for my experience.

I was there and they refused to treat a woman because she had drug issues. She could have died on the way as they carted her off to an ambulance to go 3 hours away to Calgary. Whatever happened to do no harm?

I'm very very thankful my Son survived child birth, I need to ask though; why did you allow his mom to go through labor for 30 hrs after her water broke?

Seems like a very very dangerous situation, especially when we approved a c section the minute we walked in.

Could someone please explain this to me?

Here I am making review and point. I been emergency numerous time. I had severe pain in my stomach. Never ever received right treatment or got treated nice in hospital. Doctor told me there is nothing wrong with you. Requested them to do my test but they didn’t do it. Doctor told me you don’t have colitis. Now I m being a diagnosed colitis and going through terrible pain. I m super mad at this staff. Shame on theses people

Hostile environment. Not professional at all. (Nurse dropped a box of masks and put it back on counter). Emegency nursing staff aggressive, on edge, and rude. Do not go to emergency for mental health.they will take away all your rights and treat you like a prisoner when all you want is help. Worst hospital in this province! Hands down and agreed by many of our Medicine Hat citizens. Go to calgary or bow island because this hospital is a complete joke and they all need to realize they are a huge reason why the suicide rate in Medicine Hat is do high.

I've had my fair share of trips to the hospital in the last 25 years. I've never once felt that this place was inadequate in any way, shape, or form.

I would suggest going to any other hospitals, Bow Island, Brooks even Calgary. Doctors will be in no rush to help you! I would even suggest that old guy behind the Tim Hortons with a rusty knife! Be more helpful!

Unbelievable good care from Dr and nurses in the maternity ward extremely awesome thank you so kindly for your KINDNESS and HELP. IM SO HAPPY WITH YOUR BEDSIDE MANOR. MY BABY AND I WERE IN EXCELLENT HANDS.

My mother had to spend 10 days on floor 5. She received great care. Just spending time there I appreciate the pressures that the nurses have to look after sick people. The food was very good for a hospital. Thanks for your care.

My mother in law passed away this past Saturday. The nursing staff on 4 west were absolutely amazing. I cannot say enough about them. Tammy. Wanda. Courtney. Chelsey. I know I have missed some but they were wonderful. It was a very difficult time during COVID but they were very gracious to allow us to be with her when she passed. Cannot say enough about these angels.thank you.thank you for making this time so much more peaceful for the family.

Great hospital and the raddest staff ever. Extremely sad to see their funding slashed as they are the largest employer in the city

The doctor and nurses that took care of me with my hip replacement, were awesome! I don't have a bad word at all. The hospital is clean, could use brighter colors in the halls and floors, but overall, I'm very impressed with the team I had.

Id give a rating in the negative never seen or heard such vulgur immature adults in my life i felt like i walked into a middle school.

The older woman working admitting today September 26,2019 at about 1pm was one of the rudest people I have ever met.

Hospital is a joke, outside of a few good nurses and people who seemed to care, no one listened to anything we had to say. Anytime ask a question would be taken as hostility and completely avoid answering. Complete disregard for the people who they are paid to help. Complete shit show, get no answers no care, get treated like a nuisance.

The staff at the hospital helped me through alot when I had 3 surgeries in 2017 and oh yeah in 2016.

Had a very good experience. Staff are great with kids, fast and friendly. Wait time was very minimal.

Pam the lpn on 3 north was amazing. I had a hysterectomy and she was nothing but wonderful to me. So caring and compassionate. It made my stay and experience so much more easy. I don’t think I could have done as well as I did and felt as comfortable if it wasn’t for her. Thank you Pam, you are wonderful!

I was very sick my head was bursting and i was having shocks at the side of my head. I went at 2: am in the night and i went in the room after half an hour then next 10 minutes they gave that room to someone else and asked me to wait and i am still waiting and its so painful
