Booked reservations for the New Year’s Eve Buffet. Two adults, one child. Service was friendly on arrival. On examination, the buffet had little to no presentation. Food looked as though it had been sitting for quite some time. The buns were stale and dry, and none of the food seemed to be made in house. (think packaged potato salad, powder mix mashed potato’s, and previously frozen rubber chicken.) The desserts were an embarrassment of fruit slices and boxed brownie squares from the grocery store. Nothing authentic in the full meal. It felt like a really bad wedding reception spread. Worst of all it was over $50 per person - even my child! And to top it off they added a gratuity of almost $30 on the bill (we only had water, so I’m not sure what the tip was for?). Total bill was over $200 for one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. One of those moments in life where you felt truly ripped off as a tourist. Really dampened our New Year’s Eve.
All these apparently good reviews must be friends of the business, coz this place is way out of touch. Ordered chicken cordon blue and I got well over done chicken with one tiny piece of ham in side, the most dry mash potatoes you'd ever taste & no salt, and vegetables that were about 10min over boiled. A very dry dish to say the least. Extremely poor considering the price. When a local pub up the road can both make better and cheaper leaves alot to be desired.
The service was great but the food was blan and over cooked. A ceaser salad should have dressing on it as well. Called to question about the food and the manager was just rude and ignorant. I don't recommend this place. Over priced for what you get. P.s wipe your salt and pepper shakers they were disgusting.
My girlfriend flew in from Newfoundland. It is here first time in Alberta. I took her to Banff for an epic experience on her birthday. Not here.food was good. Service was terrible and the worst I've ever had. It was not even busy; there were 3 tables one which was us. The Spanish waitress was nowhere to be found the entire time we were there.she made us feel like we were a burden and it was a chore for her to serve us. She was more concerned with the boys at the bar than serving. Not once did she come to us during our meal. I ran out of napkins didn't get anymore than the one that came with the silverware. She never asked how our food was once. She never lit the candle at our table to set the atmosphere, would have been nice and romantic when the sun set but we were left in the dark during our meal. She never informed us about the meal specials before we ordered. I have been going to Banff my entire 53 years of my Life and i can truly say It IS the worst experience I have ever had in Banff hands down and I will be telling everyone I know to avoid Melissa's from now on.
Service was friendly and the place has a nice décor to it. Great menu items and we went with the steak n eggs / hot roast beef. Both absolutely fantastic and highly recommended. I love their selection of hot sauces they have as well.
We stopped in on our way out of Banff. This location is different from the original - they have moved. I have not been to the old one but understood from the staff that they were at there original location for 40+ years.
The new location is quite nice, located on the second floor, and provides views of the town from seats around the windows. There is a stage where they have different activities throughout the week - karaoke, live bands and comedy. The service was spot on from the moment we sat down and we had our meals in record time. The food was hot & delicious - Joe burger and beer dip both with salad.
The waitress was knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant and even provided us a suggestion for our trip further on to Jasper.
We would definitely go back, next time we are in the area. Highly recommend.
First time coming here. Not local in town. Had the tomato soup, that was fantastic. Then I had the prime rib eggs Benny, the eggs weren’t very runny (I did not get the choice how I wanted my eggs poached). However, I must come back for the dinner menu with the steak selection. The prime rib also sounds delicious! (It is a steakhouse after all)
My food was very good. Server was very friendly and competent. My wife was not as impressed with the place. She found the music annoying. She went for their sticky toffee pudding and there was none to be had or knowledge of any more in the future
Its a different atmosphere now. With it being in the old billy buds i think it was.
My breakfast was mediocre. I thought it could maybe be better in my own opinion. Coffee was always full though. Make your own judgment via the photo is all.
Food was underwhelming specially for the price we paid. Not much on the plate (very basic sides, small portions, their carrots were dry and seemed to have been sitting in the fridge for a while and not tons of creativity on the presentation side). The quality of the 12 oz rib eye steak leaves much to be desired, same with their pork chop. Wish I could say something different about the food. The waitress and the service were excellent I have to state. I hate giving 1 star but their management team need to know this.
You’ve been out of business too long to not comply. Fair enough. But not long enough to have a box of cheap masks for when a customer forgets theirs in the car. I’m not sure how many times businesses can watch $60 walk out the door but one things for certain, you can’t comply your way to freedom.
I have not been so disappointed in a meal. We were seated & apparently forgotten. It took approx 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink order. During this time, my hubby & I considered leaving. We should've done this! I ordered surf & turf (steak & lobster). I asked for a medium cooked steak but when it came, it was very overcooked & dry. The sides on the plate were terrible. I could only eat the lobster tail & asked for the steak to be removed from the bill. My hubby ordered 3 appetizers for his meal & the only one that was good was the stuffed Yorkie. The nachos were gross with the beef.
I am very honest with my experiences at restaurants knowing how much I value others' experiences. I really don't like to tell people to avoid a restaurant but this time, I really feel it needs to be considered for dinner. I've heard their breakfast is good but I will not be trying it myself.
I arrived at 6PM on a Saturday and was seated at the bar. The atmosphere is fairly loud, with no barriers between guests, and pumped in music. It has an ambiant dB of around 75 while half full, measured from the bar.
I ordered the Chicken Cordon Blu from the menu with roasted potatoes and a glass of water. When my food arrived I’d still yet to receive silverware, which someone was able to grab for me. The mushroom sauce was excellent, if a little scare, and the chicken was cooked well.
The roasted potatoes were badly over cooked, to the point of actually being tough. Something I’d never experienced outside of food that’s been under a heat lamp for hours. The veggies were also barely seasoned, and the whole dish needed a fair bit of salt.
I returned the roasted potatoes as they were inedible, and received mashed potatoes. These were an improvement and were at least properly cooked, with a flavour that was not quite butter, I suspect they used margarine. The gravy tasted like it used packaged mix, and it was disappointing. They have slow cooked meats on the menu but don’t make it into quality gravy.
I sent back most of my food and was given a 25% discount. But even with that I drastically overpaid for food a chain diner could have made better. I think I now know what Melissa’s Mistake was, below average food for premium prices.
It was the only place that had available seat for dinner. And were glad it did. We were in seated beside a cute window which allowed us to enjoy the view outside. The burger was juicy and loaded with fresh ingredients. We loved the yam fries. Pizza was biiiig, definitely for sharing, it was soo meaty and cheesy. Service was great too.
Well cooked steak and a live band experience. Really loved the sauce with my steak. Seasonal vegetables were well cooked albeit boring.took 2 starts off because they provided a coupon for running the mellissa race that didn't kick in until the day AFTER the race, but wasnt obvious about it. Seemed like s slimy move seeing as most runners would want to celebrate that night and would leave the next day.
The food very good but the waitress very rude.she had no patience with the questions we had about the letter. We have asked him for a cane for the drink for the children and he told us that they do not have them and then we saw that they did.very bad experience we have had (the girl with blonde hair and pink highlights)
Came here for breakfast two days in a row and it was awesome both times! Definitely recommend checking it out. The staff is super friendly and attentive (our server Craig took great care of us).
WARNING! Do not eat at this place just got ripped off. Celebrated my 10 year anniversary here with my wife and it was completely ruined. We both ordered the rib eye steak for $50 and it was garbage half off my steak was blue when I asked for medium rare, the mash potatoes were dry as hell and served with frozen carrots. I've had a better steak from Kelsey's that I paid $20 for! On the bright side the cauliflower bites were good but I mean very hard to screw that up with bottle buffalo sauce. Our server was really good and helpful with her recommendations on the beer even offered a sample. Do yourself a favor and don't even walk up the stairs!
A good restaurant. We had an amazing server who navigated through a difficult situation when "Melissa" love up to the "mistake" name: both our steaks were badly over-cooked. The plates were replaced and had been cooked quickly. The final result was alright, we've certainly had better. The server was on the ball and worked hard to make it right.
My partner and I shared the big breakfast and we each had a mimosa. Man! Everything was fantastic. The food was delicious and it was a perfect size to share. The mimosa was a bit strong but was absolutely amazing. Our server was just wonderful. Definitely coming back and worth a try. You won't be sorry.
Don't bother going anywhere else in town! Whether you're looking for a delicious meal, late night drinks or a hangover cure for brunch, the here food is delicious. And much better than all the other spots in town.
Meh.ordered the steak sandwich and sweet potato fries. I've never had a steak sandwich come as just the meat on a piece of garlic toast. No peppers, asparagus or mushroom or bloody parsley leaves. Zip. Some au jus, or bbq sauce even. The coleslaw was dry and bland. Server was great.
First time at the new location. It was "okay". Service was a bit slow and hash browns were undercooked. Had to remind the server on a couple of items and I'm sure the menu that I had on hand (the one I ordered off) wasn't the same as I checked on the website after as there was a small discrepancy ($4) not worth sticking around waiting to get it sorted.
Went to this place for lunch, the hostess was very rude and had an attitude, the waiters however were very nice. Food was very mediocre, would much rather go to a McDonald's.
Wow what an excellent restaurant. Service was excellent, patio was nice to sit on and food was very good. A bit pricey but you are in a resort town so it makes sense.
We came to Melissa’s for breakfast as our first choice had a 45 minute wait. It was basically empty so we got sat right away. Multiple servers walked by us including the manager or owner and no one offered to even bring us some waters for about 15 minutes. Finally we got to order and we waited 40 minutes for 2 orders of eggs Benedict. The food was overpriced ($20 per order) and subpar. Of course when we were finished and ready to leave, we had to find the server to get our bill. Next time we’ll wait for a table at Tooloulou’s.
I do dislike giving 1 star reviews but we did not have a good experience here. My wife and I came this morning around 11am ish for breakfast. I ordered the steak and eggs and my wife ordered the big breakfast. The eggs were a little burned but still we could eat them, I had to leave my steak because the couple if pieces I did have, tasted very bad; almost like the meat was bad. I'm certainly not saying the meat was bad, just that it tasted a little bit like that. I have never left meat on my plate before.
My wife had ordered white toast as part of her breakfast, it didn't come with our order. It took 10 minutes for the waitress to bring it to us, by then her eggs were cold.
She seemed a little busy and overwhelmed so we didn't say anything about our experience and instead just paid the bill and left.
We cannot go back, which is unfortunate as we are in banff quite a bit and would love a good local breakfast place.
Overpriced food for dishes that don't have quality. They don't even have at least more quantity for the prices they have. Dishes looked very old as if they were unwashed. Also felt super uncomfortable with the waiter not wearing a mask and breathing down on us. Definitely a no no. Take your money somewhere else
Awesome place to eat! Katie our waitress was above and beyond good service! Thank you Katie. Also the owner is awesome he sells Keystone Lite for all my Keystone Fans
Came here for breakfast. Nice big breakfast options to fill you up before heading into the mountains for the day. Great service, typical pricing for menu items. Bonus points for the view and our waiter who saved a bumble bee that was stuck inside and released it outside.
Mel’s is not a 5/5 it’s a 10/10. Jon and the team are awesome, best bar in Banff, (also shout out to Josh, for putting up with us) I’ll miss Banff more than anything
Super disappointed with the host. My wife and I were refused entry because I am allergic to alcohol and can't use the mystery hand sanitizer they have available. I offered to wear gloves to the washroom so I could wash my hands with soap and water but was denied.
It's too bad, Mel's has always been tasty and as locals, we like to support local businesses.
We were a little disheartened when we pulled up to the old location and saw the closed sign. Once we found the new location we found the old charm and same great food. My daughter got pancakes (3) for five bucks and they were delicious. My eggs Benedict were good. Hashbrowns were always the best. My wife, who always gets the corned beef hash, was very pleased that nothing has changed.
Great breakfast and brunch! The mimosa flight is great, I ended up getting two so I could all the flavour combinations. The food was good and the staff was so friendly! Can’t really ask for more. We will be back!
Katie Atkinson is the best server in the world! She makes the experience enjoyable and is super friendly and easy to talk to. If you go in the evening then ask for Katie! You won't regret it
Very nice ambiance but the burgers weren't the greatest. Also we found the portions werent very large. 4 of us finished our meals and had to order something else after.
Amazing service. We never felt rushed, nor ignored. Server was knowledgeable in regards to the menu and made incredible suggestions. Best onion rings I've ever eaten! I would absolutely recommend Melissa's to anyone who asked!
What a missteak. $33 for a deep fried frozen from a box cordon bleu- bleu my mind with dissapointment. Overall bland, very overpriced food.the menu is all over the map and missing so many staples a 'family restaurant' would have. Denny's does it better.
Our family of 4 went for dinner last night and it was our first time at the new location. To start they couldn’t confirm our reservation even though my wife had showed them the confirmation on her phone. The hostess did end up finding us a very small (maybe 2’x2’) table near the bar. The experience wasn’t very enjoyable as our family of 4 tried to enjoy a full steak dinner at this tiny little table as the server kept piling stuff on the table. The steak itself was just ok.we had eaten at the Keg just a couple of nights prior and you cannot even begin to compare the quality of two. We’ve enjoyed many breakfasts at the old Melissa’s location but sorry to say I’ll be choosing the Keg or Chucks for my future steak dinners in Banff.
The staff are exceptional and the steak was amazing! The menu is extensive with something for everyone. By far the best kids menu we have ever come across. A must try if you are in Banff. P. S. Breakfast was also exceptional!
Came in for wing deals, was told they were full but to come back after 7: 30 and there would still be deals on wings. Came back around 8: 30 told the deals ended at 7? ¿ not a huge deal so got seated, which was promptly as someone just left. Then was told it was only cash and carry and had to pay for every order in cash on the spot and was rushed to put our order in by someone who was just a little too unnaturally aggressive in taking an order. During a pandemic you want extra handling of cash in a tourist area and can only take it out at your premium machine? I’m good. Headed out without getting anything.
Can you honestly say anything bad about Melissa's Missteak? !? !? Unreal food, unreal staff, in the heart of one of Canada's most unreal National Parks! You are doing yourself a disservice if you do not eat here while visiting Banff!
I love this place. Amazing atmosphere, food, and staff! Delicious breakfast that is worth the price. In terms of pricing, this place is very reasonable. Can't wait to enjoy another breakfast at Melissa's.
Overpriced small portions for multiple menu items. I can get a larger and better tasting salmon at Boston pizza for 15 dollars cheaper where there are no bones inside of it.pizza is disgusting/doughy/raw. Can get better Lobster at better prices at Red Lobster for example. $40 for a lobster tail. Never go to this place unless you want to waste your money and be dissatisfied.
Not bad for the price. Definitely felt rushed out of the place. They were busy, which is to be expected, however I don't need to feel like I'm being rushed out. I also found it weird that you can get 1,2 or 3 eggs Benny, but when I ordered 3, it still only came with two bottoms. The third Benny was just a poached egg. Nice place though, and will most likely head back for supper.
This is typically a busy place when I have been there. The server was very kind and the food was ok. I did however interact with the owner who was not a pleasant person. She seemed to want to rush me along even though there was no one behind me. She also seemed irritated that I was asking questions in general. I’m sure it could have simply been that she was having a bad day but I did not feel welcome or appreciated for coming in to her establishment. I will most likely look to eat somewhere else the next time I find myself in Banff.
We were a party of 7, the waitress was always aware of our needs. The food was prepared as we ordered and within acceptable wait time. We would recommend this restaurant to our friends.
Our group came here for a family dinner late December of 2018. We had 8 adults and one child with us. The restaurant did not seem very busy so perhaps they were understaffed. We waited an hour and 15 minutes to from when we sat down to get our starters. The whole meal took us two and a half hours and the food was nothing to write home about. My steak was luke warm, same with my baked potato. I do like to support local restaurants but I would be tempted to try something like Tony Roma's over here again. My wife and I decided to return on New Year's Eve to give them a second chance as a review mentioned their pizza being really good. We ordered a deep dish pizza that definitely did not live up to expectations. It was very greasy and also not very hot. For the price they want for one pizza I expected more than I received. Won't be back.
Very poor service, was seated as a table of 4 and left for roughly 20 minutes before we were even offered water at the least. Was not that busy for the amount of Wait staff that were catering, so no reason for very poor service. Food was nice, not for the price we paid though. Unfortunately we would not eat there again, we were very interested in this Restaurant due to its raving reviews and visiting from half way around the world. The reviews did not match the service/value we were looking forward to.
Very authentic Canadian interior design, great food, amazing brunch, huge portions. Top-notch quality, a little bit pricey, but it's totally worth it. They are known for their steak, but I had brunch there and their pancake and eggs benedict are very delicious!
Was very excited to order the Gorgeous George burger. The menu stated it had back bacon and pineapple on the burger. When it arrived, I was completely let down to see a slice of ham on top of the burger instead. When I asked the waitress, she informed me it was back bacon. As a Canadian, I can assure you it was not. It was ham. The service here is fine and atmosphere was nice, just don't expect what you read on the menu to appear on your plate.
Came in as a group of 8 on a Sunday morning we were seated within 10 mins. The breakfast/brunch was very delicious and they had so many options for any picky eater
We just visited for a midweek winter brunch. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, coffee and juice. Excellent service, food was perfect and fast ($50 for two). Went to the hot pool, did a bit of shopping. All in all a perfectly peaceful mid week break from the crazy angry world.
When ordering 3 eggs benny, they only come with 2 muffins, which is neither stated anywhere, nor the staff finds it necessary to share that information. On top of that, we were not asked how we would like the eggs done, and they arrived well done.
Fully disappointed I went alone they put me in corner. I order escargot, 6 oz steaks and toffee pudding. Wait more than 20minutes between each meals. Most of the time they forget me they forget my salad, bread. Steaks was perfect with peppercorns sauce.
No. I don’t know if we just ordered the wrong things but I don’t understand the hype of this place. We had the steak sandwich and the chicken burger (mel’s own). We went for lunch and got seated on the balcony. The waitress must’ve forgot about us because we ended up having to flag down another waitress to order our food. My partner got the steak sandwich which was literally a piece of steak on top of a 1 inch thick garlic bread, plus a soup on the side. Not sure how this is a sandwich but okay. The steak wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great. Quite chewy. I had the chicken burger which wasn’t bad. Bun was very soggy. Chicken was okay, nothing worth raving about. I’d give this place another chance (after trying other places in Banff!) only because everyone else seems to enjoy it but really have no idea why this place is rated so highly.
Came here to get out of the rain and for a bite to eat one morning because it was my first time in Banff and this was the first place with the word "Breakfast" visible. VERY glad I ended up stopping in here. Our server was super friendly and the atmosphere was very interesting. Rustic log cabin interior with some neat art on the walls. The food itself was great, ended up getting the salmon eggs benny, it restored my faith in egg's benedict after some desperate morning airport meal from Darcy McGee's. Would absolutely come here again for breakfast in Banff and would recommend it to anyone driving through in the morning.
Breakfast is good but a bit overpriced. Don't fall for the "thick cut bacon". It is paper thin.also if you order pancakes, know they will charge you for "real" maple syrup.
Very fancy, clean place. The server was polite and personable, despite the restaurant being so full. The food was served fast and tasted wonderful. The only downsides to this place is the business (waited 2 hours to get a seat without a reservation- so do that!) and the price (expensive).
Went here on a Sunday night, no waiting to be seated and meals came really fast. Would recommended the Salmon with maple syrup glaze Yum. Good size meals, friendly staff, beer on tap great. Winner for us!
The food did not match the hype. I ordered the eggs Benedict and the yolks were hard and there was very little of the flavourless hollandaise. The hash browns were dry and unseasoned. The waiter brought us the food and never came back to ask how it was and give the restaurant a chance to redeem itself. We had to flag him down to ask for the bill. I will never come back. Coming here was a “missteak. ” . End of the day and it’s still bothering me how much they messed up. I read through other reviews and I agree that this place is a tourist trap.
I’ve only been to the bar upstairs and I can recommend it to everyone. Super friendly staff. Free popcorn and there is a deal a few days a week where you can get a delicious steak sandwich with fries for 10$.
Ask for a ‚PBR‘ if you are on a budget but want a good beer.
We ordered a full rack of baby back ribs, a pri me rib steak, a lobster tail and wings. Everything met our expectations except the wings. They were a bit dry.
