If you've never been to Merchants. GO! The atmosphere is simply amazing! That's all year round. The patio is open in the summer and opens right into the restaurant. They've done things right at Merchants! Food. AMAZING! Staff. AMAZING! Sam makes sure everyone feels right at home!
Maybe it is what I ordered, but the chicken was super bland with a blob of tasteless herbed butter on top coupled with the worst mashed potatoes i have ever had. It was suppose to come with asparagus but instead came with a few carrots and peppers which the waitress did not say anything about. My friend had the linguine Carbonara which she said was tasteless and to top it off the music was so loud on the lounge side we could barely hear eachother. I should have sent my meal back but it took so long to come i couldnt be bothered. I won't be back anytime soon!
Service is excellent however food quality is very average. Saw people talking loudly and smoking inside kitchen. I really hoped that I was wrong with what I saw.
The sofa table was comfy. Even though it was so busy with some private event going on, the server was still checking on us well and nice. But the drinks and food little bit pricey compared to other pubs. Also pizza taste was okay.
Service was terrific, they hire great people, however they need to review how they combine ingredients. Horseradish aioli on carpaccio overtakes all the other ingredients, keep it simple and just use a regular garlic aioli, it would be been delicious. Mac and cheese was dry with little flavour and the dip needed some kind of kick to it. A friend had the prime rib and loved it, huge portion but said it was cooked perfectly and the tempura prawns were heaven and the accompanying sauce was perfect. Oh and my friends also had some cocktails which they loved.
Great food great service. Super cool room! The most comfortable chairs in the city. They said they got them from merchant seating solutions located in calgary!
Thanks Sam for the great service for our group lunch! The food and drink was timely and delicious and your recommendation of the burger was awesome! The service was excellent! Also, thanks for taking the picture of the group!
I went on St. Patty’s day. You’d think it would affect the service being so busy but our server was amazing, and the food and drinks were incredible. But I have to say, the two hostesses working the front were some of the worst I’ve ever encountered. They looked as if they’d rather be anywhere but there. They didn’t really acknowledge me, make eye contact or even smile. They turned their backs on me while they whispered to each other about the seating chart. They seemed very confused and it honestly gave a horrible start to my experience (thankfully the rest of the evening was amazing). The rest of my party who joined after me had the same experience with the hostesses. Very unfortunate.
Staple in my community. 5 stars is based on the consistent exceptional service. The staff reflects good management as they genuinely appreciate your business. Good specials, good food. Atmosphere and decor is esthetic and comfortable. Music is always good.lounge, house, or hip hop. Mixed crowd, unpretentious, and a good place to socialize. Very few Bars in Calgary live up to such a high standard. Thank you!
I had a poor experience related to racism. I went to have a few drinks with my friends and I was kicked out for being NON WHITE. I will stick to my night life at my favourite night club which I go for 8 years! No wonder why Calgary is so segregated.
This place certainly attracts an interesting group of people, especially on Wednesday night. It's usually quite loud and gets humming in the evening hours, which isn't a bad thing. The food here is okay, though the servers at times can be quite rude. Definitely more of an older crowd, and don't expect to sit down in the evenings. Overall certainly a buzzing neighborhood spot with a good menu, though the service could be improved.
Fun place especially on a Wednesday night half price wine. Very nice decor, Food was good! The only thing I did not like about the place was it was just too noisy, not for me.
Went here for the first time July 18th for dinner, they did not disappoint. Wow! Their calamari is amazing! Crispy, tender and buttery mmm. We also had the brisket penne which was really really good, tender brisket, delicious sauce. Fantastic server! Really enjoyed the patio too with an iced cold Sangria ahhhh! We’ll be back!
Outdoor patios are awesome. Dined inside previously too. Great spot. Awesome atmosphere and service! Always packed so you know you are gonna have a good time.
Great food and service in this well designed and run, family friendly gastro pub. Also not a bad spot for a couple of pints with the lads after work, or whatsoever.
Rating this purely on their beer selection. Please get some local craft beers. Also Shock Top isn't a craft beer which is listed your menu.
Edit: Lowering the review by 1 star from 3 to 2. Every time I come here the service is consistently bad. Servers often ignore you, they forget what you ordered. They have 2 bartenders on their busy Wednesday nights, which often takes 20min to even get acknowledged, meanwhile the owners walk around and flirt with the women.
Finally, when it's 35C outside the owners are too cheap to invest in AC.
I made a bad choice to meet a supplier here for a meeting. Noisy, but outside work stuff, service and wine were good. Have eaten here before, but not this time.
Watched as tables that were obviously not family mill about visiting other tables of people. Bartender not wearing mask properly while making drinks. Waitresses removing masks to talk while holding food to serve. Table of 8 people behind us clearly not family. About the only COVID rule being obeyed in the place were the plastic partitions. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. Likely will never return.
Ordered the meatball and tomato sauce pasta to go. Called the front desk to confirm whether or not pasta specials were for dine-in only or for takeaway as well. I was informed that it was for both. Upon arriving at the restaurant I find out that I would be paying a full price, minus the pickup discount despite being told that the pasta special applied to takeout orders as well. The quality of the pasta sauce was worse than a lunch cafeteria. The sauce was very tart and lacked any sort of flavour, and my dish came with ONE meatball that was extremely dry and flavourless, I ended up throwing it out. We have come to this restaurant many times in the past, however this last order left much to be desired. We will not be returning as the food is overpriced for the quality you get. We don't mind paying higher prices for quality food, however the quality of yesterday's dishes left us feeling ripped off. The only reason I'm giving a 2 star and not a 1 star is because the ladies at the host desk were pleasant.
Food was very delicious. Had lunch trio. Philly steak.with pea soup. And yummy salad. Staff was very friendly. Atmosphere is very Pleasant. A surprise on our afternoon outing. Definitely will drop in again.
The short rib penne is out of this world. Literally the most delicious meal I've ordered from a restaurant period, and I take good food seriously. The portions are huge, great for the price and I'm left wanting to try everything else on the menu. First impressions of the menu, I already knew the food would be good because I had a hard time choosing which dish to go with. I ultimately had to let our server decide for me. Exceptional food. Well done, Merchants.
Great, friendly servers, excellent food and $5 HH premium beer specials. Its a little higher priced than some other bar/restaurants, but there is quality here and feel well served. Parking can sometimes be a problem when its busy.
Unless you want to wait 20 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge you’re there and another 20 to get the wrong drink i wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. VERY unimpressed
Came here for an early lunch and was not disappointed. While it wasn't very busy (it was like 1130am) the service was excellent and the food quite delicious. Our group ordered all different things from the menu and no one was disappointed. I would like to come back in the evening as I understand the place usually is pretty packed and would have a different atmosphere than early lunch. Looking forward to coming back!
Wine night is my favorite but they have other amazing deals and delicious food. The margarita pizza is beyond good. A quick cab ride if you live in mardaloop or Altidore area.
My daughter and I shared the artichoke hot dip and avacado toast appetizers. Both were excellent, good sharing size and made for a wonderful lunch. We had great, friendly, helpful service on the very lovely outdoor patio. We both agreed that we would go back (our first time there). I love Merchants. The food is great. The service is friendly. For those of us that live in the Marda Loop area, this is a great place to hang out and to get together with friends and family.
Great food, drinks, decor & friendly prompt service. Cool club-like ambience in trendy Marda Loop. Try the white sangria! It’s a little dark to read the menu, so bring your flashlight;)
All the servers are amazing! Great wine selection and beers on tap. I have not ordered food off the menu just had drinks. Great atmosphere. Romantic night out, or night out with the girls great place to go!
This resto-bar has great menu at reasonable prices. A relaxing atmosphère. That can be reserved for special private events or parties. Also there was a hired DJ last Saturday evening for the dancers.
Good food, service and beer menu. Went for lunch. It got quite busy so go a little early for the best table options. The food was fresh and nice and hot. I had the Montreal meat sandwich with fries and it was delicious. Especially the mustard that came with it! Parking is impossible here but worth the effort.
$22 for two small pieces of fish. Want an extra tablespoon of tarter - $2. Coleslaw - love coleslaw but this was awful - couldn't eat it. One piece of fish was $16. Other restaurants have two much larger fish pieces for $16. Two out of ten for service. Someone said 'but your in Mardaloop'. Some con artist threw up some pipe work a few years back - called the dumpy area MardaLoop and all the little dummies just had to come. Their next stop should be that ring the tax payers put up in the north end.
