While the city has many Japanese restaurants that serve sushi, this place is consistently one of the best. The adage that 'you get what you pay' for is very true especially with Japanese cuisine given the raw fish component and much can be said about technique and presentation. Chef Alan here is one the best and worked hard to hone his skills. Highly recommend trying out the nigiri sushi and sashimi dishes.
Beautiful restaurant and probably the best sushi I have ever had! The size of the sushi was huge and each roll order came with 8 pieces! Good price for quality ingredients, the veggies were so fresh. Service was so fast and our server was so lovely and kind
We enjoyed our last visit but this visit was average.
The sushi was not fresh. Also our waitress was friendly but seemed like she wanted to get us out the door asap even though there was 45 mins before closing.
We enjoy the atmosphere of this place so will return hopefully for some fresh sushi next time!
The guy that seated us was super nice and funny. Me and my bf really liked him and wish he was our server (he was dressed up as Georgie from IT). Our actual server though was nice as well but I felt like she kept rushing us the moment we sat down to when we were ordering to when we were leaving. She just kept coming and asking us every 5 minutes “are you guys ready to order? ”, “are you guys finish with that? ”, “are you guys done with the food you ordered? ”. It was so consistent and I felt like she was rushing us out. I paid about $130? Not including tip. The least she could do was not rush us out… I didn’t even get to finish my food or even my tea. For someone who hyped this restaurant up to my significant other and drove from Calgary to have this, it’s a 2/10 for me……
Our visit to Mikado was delightful! We ordered the A-4 and A-5 bentos, and the food was consistently great in taste. The only minor drawback is that the menu gives the impression of numerous options, but many are just slight variations of the same dishes.
Perfect spot for a date night, limited parking space but the restaurant itself has alot of seating. There are private rooms also and the washroom is clean. The food was exceptional for the price they are offering.
We had a birthday lunch for our daughter here today. We ordered a few bentos and sushi combos. Overall the food was fabulous, personally liked the tempura best. Server was really nice and helpful. We didn’t bring a cake but the server brought my daughter icecream on a plate with happy birthday written on it. Was really nice and good for pictures. Thank you for a wonderful time Mikado!
The food was not great, it was alright. The atmosphere was alright as well. It was too dim, and the curtains were closed, which gave off a stuffy feel to the place. The service was friendly and fast.
I was so excited to come here and try the food, but the food was absolutely horrible. We ordered 5 things and only 1 plus the rice was OK. All of our meat was so cold, like it had just been sitting in a fridge. It is very cool inside with the booths and the sushi line, but it is not worth it for the food. Save your time, skip Mikado, and go to Zen. I would NOT recommend it here unfortunately
Update Aug 2023: great service and food, as always. Pricing is a bit high for what we got but it is always a reliable place for a decent meal.
Update: most recent visit the food was excellent and service was fabulous!
Visited on Oct 16. Got Bento Boxes and extra rolls. Service is great. Most of the things we ordered tasted decent. But we found the Tempura very greasy and somehow also under cooked. The left over taste of cooking oil did ruin the dining experience a bit.
