Very caring and kind staff and Dr. Munro is really amazing. It was very comforting environment as we came in a paniced situation. My mother almost lost her 1 eye vision but it was handled really well by the team. Thank you!

Their service sucks:
1) I completed pre-surgery procedures on Dec and dr. Prescribed drops to take, with anticipation of surgery date in the same month, now after more than a month I give them a call and they say i’m not even in the waiting list
2) They couldn’t bill my expenses through the insurance and never gave me a call to inform may. After several weeks I received invoices by mail and when I called them to talk about the problem their billing agent wasn’t in the office and I had to wait a week while my health insurance was expiring as i’m not a citizen.

Every-time I call them they give different info/details. Don’t trust them pls!

Dr. Patrick Mitchell was amazing. He was the first specialist I had seen that didn’t make me feel like a number. I felt heard for the first time after seeing numerous doctors before him. Yes there were wait times but that’s any clinic you go to. As far as my surgery and how I was treated by all the staff I can not say enough good things.

I have visited the Mitchell eye centre calgary. Several times in the last five years. Several years back my son was admitted there in a emergency when he cut his eye in half in an industrial accident. The specialists. Saved his eye and he has still got perfect sight. He is 28 years young. And very lucky. Thankyou to the specialists at Mitchell eye centre. They are caring people and we are all lucky to have them. Highly professional and attentive. Thankyou. I have been going to the Mitchell Eye Centre for almost a year. I also bring my mother there for her eye care. My mother cannot speak for herself, so it is very important that l understand exactly what her eye care entails. All of my questions are answered each time we visit, and l never feel rushed out of the office. It is easy for me to say that we both have been treated with kindness, patience and respect during our visits.
I would also like to note that $5.00 is not a lot to ask for when it comes to parking.

Th visit was fantastic! All procedures were carried out professionally and there was a pretty quick turnover with reasonable wait time. The optimologist was very courteous and thorough with his diagnosis. All the staff were very warm and friendly.

I told Dr Robert about my melanoma in my right eye and after surgery in 2020 I was having double vision in my good eye at night. I came to get an second appintion why im having blurry and double vision all the time now.in my good eye. I looked at this doctor sign on the wall.and said I see your writing in blurry and double vision. Then the Doctor said go back to work.what your going to sit and rot at home.go back to work.i said but im having blurry and double vision in my good eye.the Dr replied.im possible. This Doctor should Retire. As when he checked me over.buy this co workers they must not be putting the info in right.as my vision after my surgery seeing double vision for the last year and a half.now its blurry and double vision all the time.when you tell the Doctor this is happening to me. Doctor says go back to work.whats wrong with this Doctor.

Terrible experience from receptionists. For the first time in 4 years my wife and mom in law showed up to an appointment just to tell them it was a mistake. An appointment that was reminded 2 days prior a said appointment. My wife confirmed the appointment the day before (Jan 4th) to confirm and clarify confusion which was “clarified and confirmed” by a receptionist. My wife had to bring our 1 year old son early in the morning as my wife is my mom in law’s ride (no child care). Very poor communication and lack of looking into things. HUGE inconvenience on our end. Note to those making schedules- please take the time clarify and look into these appointments more carefully!

Very uncaring, inattentive, and money grubbing eye doctors.

They call themselves the most knowledgeable yet they weren't able to pay attention and find out that my serious chronic eye dryness was derived simply from nocturnal lagophthalmos. Instead, they made me spend $1,100 for a procedure I never needed! And they treat you unprofessionally. It's grotesque. I felt scammed!

I went to another doctor, Dr Ahmed at Mission Eye Care, and he was able to diagnose my problem in 5 MINUTES by investigating my eyes. My eyes don't shut completely at night and he suggested I buy hydration goggles to wear at night, which helped me tremendously! The issue had nothing to do with eye lipid production.

With all your knowledge and wisdom, you couldn't figure this out and made me spend $1,100 instead? ! You fail to investigate appropriately and give the wrong procedure. Or you're happy to be complacent as it generates Mitchell Eye Centre money.

Your organization is an absolute joke and you're simply unskilled doctors who brag about your names while not doing your jobs properly. Ridiculous.

I usually have an amazing experience with this place and the staff. But today I called to get some information about an appointment and the “receptionist” was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Very short with her answers, had no time to listen to what I was asking or saying. I have never been treated like this by anyone working here. I am quite shocked, unfortunately. Everyone is amazing. I hope she has a better day.

I don’t normally post reviews, but I am really upset with this. I have been looking to get treatment for my eye and my first appointment was fine, but I was supposed to be booked in for a surgery for my eye over a month ago. I show up the day I was told I was having my surgery and I was told I was just booked in for a follow up appointment, which I never asked to be scheduled in for, it was supposed to be for the surgery, nor was I told that the appointment I was supposed to have today was supposed to be just a follow up. This is not cool. Now I have to wait over a month again for an appointment I was already supposed to have and suffer with eye discomfort in the meantime.

Long wait times, pleasant staff, but just to give a heads up, my booking text ahead of time indicated to wear a mask (Alberta mask mandates have eased) - personally I was relieved as I have a serious lung disease and have pretty much had to hibernate for the past two years. When I arrived I was a bit taken aback that reception staff were not masked, a bit odd, but no biggie, half of the people in the packed waiting room were unmasked, ok weird, some obviously must not have received the same text. As an aside, a patient sitting across from me was glaring (not staring) at me - Dude, chill - you’ll be ok, I’m not glaring at you for not wearing one. Sigh. When I finally saw the Dr, after waiting over 2 hours, much to my surprise the Dr was not masked as well. Really strange, I’ve not encountered that in any other medical appointments since easing of restrictions. Not comforting when one considers how closely an ophthalmologist gets to your face. So, unfortunately I will not be able to return- I did ask if it would be possible to have staff wear a mask around me (not reception- just in my appointment for a follow up appointment and was informed that it was not possible).

Over the past four years I have appreciated Dr. Robert Mitchell’s knowledge, experience, understanding and the hope that he has given me. The technologist has been kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and has made me feel comfortable during my treatments.

I understand that doctors may be running late at times but this is a regular occurrence (a wait of 1 hour or longer). I very much appreciated that I was “allowed” to leave the building during the wait time on my last appointment but the wait time is not respectful of my time.

The four star rating is mainly because some improvements are needed with the techs and reception. I would appreciate the techs introducing themselves. I would also like less “robotic” treatment. Showing empathy, concern and flexibility, as well as some eye contact and communicating “with” a patient rather than “talking down”, is important for patients' healing. All staff play a role in that.

Dr. Rob Mitchell has been our family choice of ophthalmologist for more than 20 years. His quiet competence has manifested itself in the performance of two radial keratotomy to begin the elimination of significant astigmatism. Laser surgery was also needed to give me optimal vision. As I aged he repaired my cataracts with new lenses. I highly recommend him and his son Dr. Patrick Mitchell who repaired a tear in my cornea with equal competence.

I had a great experience with Dr Mitchell and the staff for my cataract surgery. In less than 3 months of my initial appointment I had my surgery completed. All pre-op and post-op check-up appointments occurred on time. The staff is very friendly. It has almost been a year since the surgery and my vision is great. I definitely recommend.

Doctor was very professional. The team were doing great. Some confusion on the booking system which does not clarify which floor is the appointment location. Since they have offices in the first and the third floor, it would be beneficial to have the office number in the appointment card.
The contact email address in the papers was doctor's email which based on their explanation, the receptionists are those who file additional information.

Other than the initial check-in at the front door being quite slow and under staffed, once I was directed to the 3rd floor to where my appointment was located, that entire procedure was like a well oiled clock! Very friendly and competent staff working for Dr. Robert Mitchell. What can I say about him, he probably has the most experience in western Canada, and I trust him implicitly with my eyes. Thank-you for your service to Calgary. You are the best and most experienced I have encountered.

I came in with my father as a translator. This clinic seems to me a bit overrated. It's not bad, but not spectacular. Front desk receptionist (s) are average, doesn't really give the welcoming vibe- just the regular check-in kind of thing. The ladies who do the initial examine are great though, very friendly and ensures to document concerns. Dr. Yau is fine.but he seems a bit rushed and hesitant to answer questions. Lacks a bit of the "ensuring/ empathetic" quality in my opinion. My only other complaint is that, although it's expected, the wait time is rather long. Our visit was almost 2 hours. All in all, just minor critiques that can make an average visit, a good one.

I want to start by saying that the technologists and Dr. Adatia are absolutely lovely.

One member of the reception staff is very unkind. I work in a high volume, patient care setting - I am more understanding than most that the reception staff absolutely deals with a lot of emotions, sometimes explosive, from patients. However, this receptionist literally takes any opportunity she can find to be unkind to patients, it’s totally unacceptable and would not be tolerated where I work. She was quite rude to an elderly lady about how she needed to “get back outside” because her appointment was at 09: 00 am, and “we follow the clinic clock which says 08: 50” - just to add some insight, satellite time was 09: 00. The next time I was at an appointment, an elderly gentleman checked in, and after he had left the desk, she pretty loudly told her coworker that “he stank. ”

Last week I called to explain that I’ve been having heart arrhythmias, I was told not to drive. I explained my situation, and I asked if it was at all possible to set up a telephone appointment with the tech or Dr. Adatia to get the results of my angio. She cut me off and said “Mam, a receptionist would never give you results over the phone. ” I very clearly asked if it was possible for the tech or Dr. Adatia to conduct a phone appointment with me - in no way, shape or form, did I ask for the receptionist to give me confidential results over the phone. It felt like she didn’t listen to me and just took it as an opportunity to be rude. I have never been anything but overly kind and professional while speaking with the reception staff, but this one employee is unable to reciprocate that. I asked to be forwarded to the manager so I could provide some feedback, this was last Friday and it is currently Thursday, I have yet to get a phone call.

I’m in the process of finding another specialist because I can’t be present while this woman belittles seniors anymore. As someone who provides direct patient care in a high stress environment, there is absolutely zero excuse for a clinic receptionist to be so unkind to patients.

This is one of the worst medical experiences I have had. They told my husband to bring a driver, so I came with him. He has been waiting for almost 2 hours and there are still 2 patients ahead of him.
His driver is not allowed to wait with him. There is no seating in the lobby and it is 37 degrees outside with no shade. It's worse in the car of course.
Why in heavens name would they not provide seating inside for the drivers on a day like this? What's going to happen when it's 40 below?

My visit was pleasant and efficient, especially considering the Covid issue we all must live with now a days. My YAG Laser procedure was a surprise. I had no warning about what was to take place. The procedure was very non-abusive for my left eye. I left your office with no after effect. However, I thought I was scheduled for a procedure to correct my double vision which is strongest in the left eye. I still have double vision but much better vision. Is it possible to get an appointment with another Doctor who specializes in double vision repair? Hoping to hear from M. E. C.with my next appointment. Regards. Jeffrey Bernard

Covid protocols strict. Flexible with family assisting a client if required. Staff friendly and accommodated clients low hearing. Dr A open to questions and kind to the client. Not rushed, condescending or impatient.
The bldg itself is difficult for the elderly with covid. Parking is a far walk, no chairs or benches to sit in lobby or outside when waiting. No sanitizer by the parking machines which are touched by everyone. Parking is $3.

Over all my experience at the Mitchell Eye Centre was very good. I was greeted by a very professional and pleasant reception staff. My appointment started on time after a very brief wait in their sitting room which was set up with social distancing and Covid 19 awareness and protocols. The examination rooms are well designed and the medical staff that over saw my treatment were very proficient, prompt, and considerate. I am actually looking forward to my next eye examination. Today's appointment at the Mitchell Eye Center was a very positive experience.

A 5 star rating to the technicians and practitioners. Main floor reception is not very welcoming or pleasant to communicate with in person or on the phone. 3rd floor reception is welcoming and the entire opposite of the main lobby.

Poor first impression drops my perfect rating for this organization by one point.

The area they had control over (their offices) they had good covid control and protocols. There are hand sanitizers but no wipes to clean chairs after someone sits and rotates from being called in to office.

Areas outside their controls (hallways) were full of people and was hard to distance from each other.

Dr. Yau performed all check ups and went thru all relevant tests that was wrong with my eye. His staff was kind and efficient at handling check-ins, and booking appointments

Honestly the BEST place for vision correction surgery. As someone who used to wear eye glasses, I decided to take the plunge in 2013 and go for vision correction surgery. The entire process was safe and painless. Now, I can see 20/15 in both eyes! Unbelievable! Not only that, I was suffering from severe dry eyes due to a mishap a few years ago and was able to seek effective treatment from here. Now, my eyes have been completely restored and I hardly feel any dryness. I can't recommend this place enough for anyone who is looking to get rid of eyeglasses, contacts, or dry eye issues. Thank you Dr. Robert Mitchell and his staff!

My father underwent a cataract surgery through Mitchell Eye Centre and was provided a 24/7 emergency phone line to contact if any issues arose after. He started experiencing some concerning issues and so we called this line (multiple times), leaving voicemails, but no one got back to us. We even contacted reception at Mitchell Eye and left a message, but even then, we were not contacted by anyone. This could have resulted in a VERY unsafe outcome for my father.this is highly unprofessional, and concerning. They should monitor this service better.

I also echo the other reviews left by some patients/family members as I felt that the front staff is quite rude at times, especially in dealing with seniors who may have a harder time understanding the process.

The Receptionist is very rude, unprofessional and very unpleasant to talk to.

I called last Friday, Jan. 8th, 6 days prior to my appointment to have it rebooked. The lady confirmed my new appt.date and time will be on Mar. 11th at 3pm.

Then 2 days prior to my orig.appt.date (Jan. 12th, Tues.), I received a reminder call. I told the lady that it was rebooked already on Mar. 11th at 3pm. She said, there was no other appt.under my name except for the original one.

I checked my phone to check the time and date when I called them in to rebook it. When I confirmed to her that it was last Friday at 11: 02 am, she said in a very sarcastic way that they don't have any way to track it.

Given that my appointment has been messed-up already, I just asked her to rebook it. After she gave me my new appointment, I asked nicely what her name is for my reference. I just don't want the previous incident to happen again! She firmly responded with a "NO" and hung up on me.

I was very disappointed with how they are handling phone calls. The first lady who rebooked me last Friday was very inefficient. Then this lady whom I spoke with, upon telling her what has transpired lacks empathy.
She is very unprofessional, very rude and does not have telephone manners!

Update: The reply from the doctor below is totally false. I don't know if he's looking at the wrong patient or if he's just lying but it does not in any way refer to my experience. He spent no more than 20 minutes with me and my daughter combined, not the 45 minutes that he's claimed. And I only went to my optometrist once every 2-3 years not the 8 times that he is bizarrely claiming. Also, my complaint was that 12 years after my laser eye surgery my vision is now a +4.5. This is not a reading glasses situation but a bad reversion to my pre-surgery eyesight. I am wearing contact lenses that are every bit as strong as what I wore pre-surgery. Again, the doctor was dismissive and actually called my surgical result and regression a 'good outcome'. If this is a good outcome what does a bad outcome look like for these guys? Blindness? Also, why book 30 patients after my appointment that afternoon? Talk about an assembly line for eyecare!

Original reveiw: Dr. Mitchell performed laser eye surgery on me in 2005. I needed 2 touch ups on my right eye but aside from that everything went very well.

I recently returned to Mitchell eye clinic as my vision has deteriorated with age. I also brought my daughter with me this time as she has a severe dry eye problem. I was interested in lens replacement surgery for me and lipiflow for her.

The atmosphere at Mitchell eye has completely changed. No one there seems happy or friendly and it feels like you're on an eye care assembly line. Our first visit took 4 hours - about 20 minutes total of vision care and over 3 hours of waiting. They take you to one room, do a test for a few minutes, then get you to wait in a waiting room for another hour. Then you do another short test and wait another hour. You get the picture. Our second visit today wasn't much better - 2.5 hours waiting for about 15 minutes of testing, etc.

We both saw Dr. Yau. He was condescending and didn't seem to listen to either my daughter or I about either of our problems. He was critical, judgemental, and minimized the issues that we are experiencing.

At today's appointment, they brought my 14 year old daughter in to see Dr. Yau while I was in another room doing an eye test. It didn't occur to them that maybe the mother should be present when the doctor was talking to a minor. When I asked for a recap of the discussion from Dr. Yau he seemed put out to have to explain it to me.

In regards to our vision problems, I've gotten more help, support and advice from my optometrist. Dr. Yau has no bedside manner and should not be working with patients. We will not be going back. I'm going to book an appointment with Gimbel today.

Have never had the worst service ever for my dad elsewhere, but at The Mitchell Eye Centre. My dad had his right eye cataract removal leaving my dad with vision loss. As Dr. Partick Mitchell ; a physician and surgeon refers it to as " His surgery went well, however his nerve is damaged, so he will have to live with his condition".

It breaks my heart, when calling The Mitchell Eye Centre to speak with a doctor about my dad's vision loss after surgery that receptionist seemed arrogant and ignorant and wouldn't put me through the line to speak with his doctor nor could the receptionist tell me what to do but wait for his follow up. She seemed to have no interest or concern about what I had to say.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO DR. PATRICK MITCHELL; as he is definitely uncaring and not worth seeing.

I did a "Refractive Lens Exchange" eye surgery & their staff, surgical coordinators, & Doctor made the whole process so easy & efficient. All of their attitude was top class & they were all very caring & patient throughout the process. Now that I have finished the surgery & about 80% healed, I can say the results turned out in the best way it could ever be. I would definitely recommend vising "Mitchell Eye Centre" for anybody who needs his/her eye checked with [anything] that they have concerns with. Thank you very much!

Dr.ryan yau if I wanted to be talked down to i wouldn't have taken the day off work. This doctor was rude impatient obviously hates his job. Told me there was nothing wrong and all I needed was some eye drops. I am in pain and definitely have something wrong with my eye that is beyond eye drops! You don't think I've tried eye drops! Avoid this guy unless you get off on being put down and belittled. He would be great at selling eye drops at the mall.

Good Morning to all at Mitchell Eye Centre,
Thank you for taking such good care of me well I got my eyes done. It was just yesterday so I’m still adjusting to my new eyes. Hehe. But so far it is amazing how well I can see especially close up. I don’t think I have ever seen like this before. Everything up close is so vibrant in there colors. I will keep you posted on my recovery.
Just a note when I was getting my eyes done everyone was so friendly and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable, starting with the young girl that put my drops in at the beginning. She was a real gem and made me feel like there was no worries and started the whole procedure out on a wonderful note. Thank you.

Love the doctor but every time I'm here I wait well over an hour from my scheduled appt.time. Then my actual appointment only takes 5 min. So frustrating. Not sure how other appointments finish by 5pm. Despite all that the care of your eyes is of the upmost.

This clinic is top notch.well run, schedules followed, complete with reminders, competitively priced, and highly professional. Staff is polite courteous and knowledge able to compensate for changes. In my opinion the best choice of clinic with flagship Dr Robert Mitchell, probably the best in town. My results were amazing and my recovery quick and painless. The operation itself is absolutely nothing to fear. My sight has been restored! I definitely do my research and this is my recommendation.

Dr. Ryan Yau saw my husband today, if I could give zero stars I would.

When someone is referred to your clinic its HIGHLY inappropriate to question why they are there. Obviously our regular eye dr felt the need for my husband to be seen due to a concern that they had.

On top of that to say that you don't understand when a patient is CLEARLY explaining the symptoms, loss of vision, weakened eye muscles, and pain etc. Hmmm nothing wrong with him Okay, sure maybe his Eye is fine, but there is something wrong and to dismiss him and talk down to him is extremely unprofessional.

Wouldn't ever come back here if we needed to.

Just because your a specialist doesn't mean you're above others. Your job is to help your patients and you were the exact opposite.

Staff is very courteous and would have been a pleasant experience if they were not so overbooked. Very difficult to social distance and not enough seats for everyone waiting. Sanitizing of chairs would have been appreciated as we were rotated constantly and had to take someone else’s spot so never in the same seat and people having to stand in a 3 foot walkway. Impossible to social distance

The clinic gives good service, however, the front end needs to be a bit more courteous. Due to COVID-19 concerns they insist that you check in at exactly your appointment time, no earlier. No problem. As there is always a lineup to check in you must time it right, or else you will be early and then you will be asked to go to the end of the line.

When I was there today, as I waited in line I saw many, many people return to the lineup from the check in counter, frustrated, muttering things, etc. When I got to the counter at my precise appointment time I found out why. I was told that as I was 10 minutes early I must leave and start over. Confused, I said that I was at my exact time, to which I was told that the clinic's clock runs ten minutes slow. I asked why they did not reset the clock to avoid all of this confusion, but I was told they were not able to do this.

Imagine that, a clinic specializing in precise eye surgery, and no one there can set a clock! Could they not just remember that everyone is 10 minutes early by their clock, which is bang on time by any other clock, and let people check in on time, rather than creating all of the confusion and bad feelings by making everyone work to the time of a faulty clock? Incredible!

Great service, albeit always 10 minutes late!

Had a wonderful experience today having cataract surgery for first eye. Staff were great and caring. Was in and out before I knew it.
