Great early season skiing even if only two runs where open. Snow was in good shape till around 2pm and only got a little icy on the couple steep bits. We will be back!
Naskiska Ski school is fantastic! The manager Leo took all the time we needed to reassure us about what would work best for our children and give us the best value for money. He gave us fantastic independent advise and when the time came for the kids’ first lesson, he made sure he was there to introduce us to their instructor. Theo was their instructor and he took such great care of our two girls, so much so we have requested him for their future lessons. Thank you so much Leo and Theo, we feel so content knowing that our kids are in your care.
It’s a great place for family skiing, the bush trails are so much fun. And the best time to buy a season pass is in June and July. The food is good and can relax in the chalet
Great place to hone your skills when you are new to the sport. Ice can be terrible sometimes as well as hill can get jammed with learners so be careful when you get to the lower sections. But hit it on a snow day and you won't be disappointed, lots of fun.
Bustling resort with friendly teachers and slightly dated facilities and restaurant. But a great day out nonetheless and would definitely recommend it to beginners like us, and clearly a draw for those more experienced we looks at enviously.
Spring riding so amazing. The staff are allways friendly and so helpful on updated on the mountain. Good covid protocol. Cant wait to be normal next riding season
Nakiska is very good if you know what you expect, a hill with nice wide open runs for cruising. It's a great place to get laps in on the groomers, but it's not a big resort hill with a lot of varied terrain. A decent amount of chairs move people uphill and keep lineups to a minimum.
I have been going to nakiska for a few years this is a very good ski area. The li es move fairly quickly and the equipment is always good. The lifts operate well and rarely has issues. Overall great place to ski and enjoy the winter days.
For having such a warm winter without as much snow, we we're glad they make so much of their own! Plus the check-in was super quick with scanning the QR code receipt, completely no contact.
Great for new skiers like my kids. It has a decent sized bunny slope with magic carpet lifts, and the easiest chairlift serves multiple easy runs. Higher up, the snow quality hasn't been as good as other ski resorts the handful of times I've been here.
Just came out to use the magic carpet beginners area to learn some basics. Beautiful day with light flurries. Everyone we spoke to was super friendly and upbeat. Great time.
Definitely more of a beginners hill but still great. The staff were friendly and the hill was good. They even had a few black runs open. They have snow machines and groom their runs allowing them to have runs open longer than other hills. Close to town so it doesn't feel like your traveling more than hitting the slopes.
Covid is definitely having an impact. Be ready for longer lift lines with no social distancing. Masks are required in left lines and ski patrol is doing a good job of reminding people to cover both their mouth and nose. It's outside, so that's probably better, but you stand in line for 20-30 minute.
There are lines for cohorts and those riding together. However, they don't group anyone, so the lines for those willing to ride with others are much faster and you still don't ride with others. They really need better line management, especially for the Gold chair.
The hill is as good as ever and the staff are friendly. Indoor services were good too, but don't expect people to be masked indoors because they are "eating".
Overall, probably avoid the ski hill this year and go extra next year.
One of the closest ski hills to Calgary. Easy to get to and a short drive away from the city. Runs are great when there’s fresh snow! Plenty of parking pretty close to the main lodge and chairlift means a short walk of only a few minutes from your car until you’re on the hill.
The base of the hill gets busy later in the morning (after 10ish through till about 1-130pm) and then opens up again after that. As long as you stay on the higher chairs and runs you won’t have to deal with huge lines every time you want a ride back up the hill.
Leaving at the end of the day when lifts are closing can be a bit slow. There’s a stop sign before you can turn back onto the highway and traffic backs up sometimes from the highway to the parking lot. If you’re only going to ski for one day you can afford the extra 20-30 min it will take to leave since the hill is so close to the city. But if you’re looking to buy a pass or multiple lift tickets for this hill over a season I’d leave earlier in the afternoon and save yourself the traffic on the way out.
Did not feel safe. Very poor COVID measures in place. There was no distancing in lift lineups (lake louise has markers indicating two meters), riders are permitted to ride with those not in their household, and lift staff did not all wear real masks - sometimes just a neck warmer over their face. Very disappointing from a resort that had an outbreak among their staff in December. One positive is that you can reserve online and scan at the resort to print tour ticket. Also wasn't too busy, at least for the Olympic chair.
Ski hill is what it is. Very expensive lift tickets for what you get but what ski hill isnt. Food is ok but very expensive. After ski Beer for 12 bucks is outrageously expensive.
This is a small ski hill compared to the hills inside the national park. The lifts are not that busy and is slower so it's easier for begginers. I recommend this hill when you want to go for a quick ski session not too far from the city.
This is a hill about 1 and a half hours from Calgary. The hill is decent, the day we were out, there was lots of powder, and the runs were well groomed. If you are planning on going, I suggest you buy a discounted pass from Costco to save you significant money on the lift pass. There is snow tubing and snow shoes available. The snow shoes has two starts time of 8 and 2 according to the signage. Also there is half day tickets available starting at 1230. The bronze runs are good for beginners, while the silver runs appear to be the most popular. If you are planning on attending, bring your own lunch. The burgers we had were quite dry and bland. The fries were good with a proper amount of crunch and saltiness though. You will pay approximately 425 for most bottled drinks from the cafeteria. The hill is quite popular with families so expect a lot of kids on the runs. The silver runs are quite wide, although if you are a boarder there are quite a few flat spots which can be annoying. Not my favorite hill, but driving time and cost make this hill worth considering.
Great place near to Calgary so ideal if you fancy a day out, three ski area's four chairlifts enough runs, blue runs being good distance. Possibly not the best for advance skiers, but their is a ski lodge up the mountain doing beer and burgers unfortunately didn't have the time to check it out but worth noting for the future, friendly vibe so glad to have experienced
The major advantage is to be close to Calgary. The jump point at the end of the bronze lift is very stepped. 2 out of 5 people were falling after leaving the chairs. Including me.
We loved visiting the Nakiska ski area, having only ever skied in Europe it was incredible to have such wonderful piestes all to ourselves. Great day, looking forward to some fresh powder overnight and some more time on the slopes tomorrow
When we lived in Calgary we liked this place. We were there each weekend during the ski season. It gets crowded after 12PM. If you are an advanced skier go early mornings!
Too many people, but probably just because it's close to the city. Too much ice, there are big 15 by 15 meter patches of straight up ice and rock covered by no more than half cm of snow.
There are bowls and flat spots that require a lot of cross country skiing.
Could do with more seating /kitting up space and facilities. Snow this year was excellent. Chairlift management was good and efficient. Staff friendly and helpful.
Great offering for families but improve mid mountain lodge with additional facilities (needs reno) and more restaurant lunch space. Would drive more traffic and could command 150 more for each annual family pass.
Nice helpful people, well groomed hills, lots of space for sitting to eat or rest, well run lift lines and accurate information given regarding level of runs.
Nakiska is an overall good ski resort, it is low on your wallet, has all difficulties of runs, and always has snow. I reccomend to anyone looking into a new ski resort or anyone who is stating out.
I've come here so many times when I lived in Calgary and took my son a few years ago (it was one of the coldest days). The runs are perfect for beginners like my son. Short enough that he doesn't get tired.
Great little ski hill only 45 minutes from Calgary! Lots of snow from December onwards, if you head up on a weekday you'll have whole runs to yourself. Not as large as Sunshine or Louise but enough to fill a day. Check out the Glades area if you're into tree runs.
It’s quite fun to go with the family here but during an accident with my school I retained permanent damage to my teeth. They were very uncoropitive with the invesigation into the accident due to me being fought on a run above my skill level. The people in charge of accidents are quite rude toward my mother and did not give a full report about the incident even though the legally were supposed to.
Very early season with just the Olympic and gold chairs open. The limited runs were in good condition and not too icy. The mid-mountain lodge was open which was nice so you didn't need to ski to the bottom for the bathroom. The gold chair didn't open until 10: 30 as the main run was used by the ski racers.
