Amazing selection of games for all retro games. Such a cool place, very friendly staff, it's a great setup overall. The value isn't great, but still I would highly recommend checking this place out.

Super helpful staff, and the store has a substantial selection in retro games. Wren is really friendly and extremely knowledgeable. She helped us get the right console for the game my son wanted. We bought a Japanese version online and learned that the American version is what we needed. The staff tested it out first and everything worked great. So we switched to the American version. My son is happy and so am I!

Sold a bunch of my collector's video games here, and I've got to say, this place pays the fairest prices! The owner is absolutely amazing!

Truly a hidden gem, they have all sorts of amazing finds here, you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend them.

Honestly, probably the best used video game store in Edmonton. Very friendly staff and they clearly care about the quality of the products they sell. My games looked brand new and I couldn't be happier.

Huge selection of rare retro games. I was surprised to see some of the titles they have. Great spot for collectors and the prices are fair, averages around the same prices on Ebay, some a little less, others a little more.

Probably the best prices for retro games. I got a lot of original xbox games from here a bit cheaper than other places.

Prices are maybe a tad on the high end, but the convenience of not having to pay shipping and wait for the mail almost makes up for it. Fantastic selection. Was honestly surprised by how many uncommon titles they have on hand.

Great prices. Great service and we've never had any issues with anything we've bought here. Been a patron for years.

Would rate no stars if i could.everything in the store is priced more than what its worth.better off buying online or from somebody on kijiji or fb marketplace.even if you are looking for something specific Ebay is better than nexwave.most likely all positive reviews are paid actors as i have been there 3 times throughout the year and have had terrible experiences whether it be rude and unknowledgeable staff or everything having a higher price tag than you'll find anywhere else or just all around trying to rip you off.absolutely terrible store 0/10 would never recommend to ANYBODY.

I always have a great time shopping here, the Merchant in fact gave me a tip on a game called Legend of Dragoon, and why the disc would always go black after a boss fight. After some reddit posts, turns out the merchant was right, even got praise on there. For that I'm super thankful, here's to a great business!

I’m from out of province and thought I’d check out a few local game stores since I’m a collector and found this place by pure luck. Staff are really cool and friendly. The store is clean and they have a ton of stock, which is also priced quite fairly! I found some games that, where I live, would cost double to triple the price these guys were selling for. If I’m ever back in town I plan to come back here, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and conversation with the staff and the prices they’re selling some games for are completely reasonable.

Honestly probably the best video game store overall in Edmonton, most definitely.

A lot of the others, Game City especially, can be hit or miss. That's no fault against them, they just have a lot of locations and so need to spread out stock over a wider area. Nexwave though routinely has weird and uncommon games with much greater frequency. Recently came up from Calgary to check this place out with some friends, and yes, we will commute that far just to check this place out. I look forward to my next visit.

My son came here to buy some retro games, and picked up an NES game, which unfortunately wasn't working. The owner went above & beyond delivered him a replacement cartridge to our house. Now that's amazing customer service. Thank you, he's very happy!

Okay, I've not had many good experiences at any retro game stores in Canada, and Edmonton is no exception.

But before we get into that, lets start with the pros:

- A VERY large selection of games from all the core PlayStation, Xbox, Sega, and Nintendo Consoles

- Almost all "In demand" games where in stock

- Loads of console and handhelds available, most at good prices (150$ for a NES or SNES)

Now, for the cons:

- Prices are at least 10-20$ (or more) over market *average*, not just eBay's cheapest

- The selection may be large, but most is either bargain bin stuff for 5$, or some of the rarest and most expensive games I've ever seen. Not too much in-between.

- Some consoles share the high prices, like the Wii-U.

I mainly implement the "Tetris Test", where I check if they have any copies of Tetris in stock for the Gameboy, and if they do (which if they don't would be quite surprising) I compare the price to what the market average and most recent sales on eBay are. Which at the moment, is around 15$ CAD.they wanted 30$.

Okay, so maybe you're paying the premium for clean, wiped save, and guaranteed working games.

Well, I had picked up a loose copy of "Zelda: Link Between Worlds" for the 3ds and I paid 30$. Not great, not bad, one of the better prices I saw there; but, it came dirty and the saves weren't even wiped. Two things that would, in my opinion, greatly increase the quality and premium feeling of the service especially at the higher prices. Although they didn't, which was disappointing.

Now back to the main point of the "Tetris Test". The most common place you'd go is "Game City" for used and retro games. Its a large chain with a pretty good trade in value and rewards program. There prices aren't the best on everything but pretty good overall. By no means am a fan, but they wanted *12$* for Tetris.

If "Game City" is beating you in the fair price area, you're doing something wrong.

I did quite enjoy the atmosphere of the store, a very cool "Pokémon Snap" Demo unit, and loadddss of special editions and very good condition boxed consoles.

TLDR;

If you want a quick, easy way to get retro or newer games but pay premium (Mostly on the generation before current and prior), then its one of the better places. Not great in my opinion, but as I've said I haven't found a 'great' retro game store since the one in my hometown closed.

This is the place you want to go if you want to go back in time and enjoy the good ole'days of Nintendo, Mario and all those awesome games we grew up on.
