"The doctor is nice". No he isn't. At all. He's rude, his staff is rude, I have anxiety every time I even walk past his office as I have other appointments in this professional center. I'm sure he's nice enough to some people but that was not my experience.

Dr. Fernandes and his staff are the best!
They are always so accommodating to our family and I. They go above and beyond to make sure we are always cared for. They get us in same day if it's an emergency, they even offer some after hour care. On top of all of this, I strongly believe Dr. John Fernandes is the best doctor in the city!
Highly recommend!

Yet another bad experience regarding the receptionist. I called a week ahead of my consultation appointment to let them know I would most likely not make it to the appointment due to work and needing to leave the city for said work. I asked politely to see if there might just happen to be any cancellations for the week prior. Super rare I do realize but I figured it would not hurt to ask. She was immediately rude to me, asking why I only called a week ahead of time to discuss the appointment.
Just in my particular situation, I had only learned of my work schedule the same exact day. I understand these offices are busy and the chances of getting an earlier appointment are extremely rare if not completely unheard of. Regardless, I still needed to let them know that I would not be able to make it to my consultation. And I was completely understanding of that situation, and in taking a much later appointment. (Which she never even scheduled me for.)

Now knowing I didn’t really need to apologize to this woman, I still did anyway. My apologies did not change the receptionist’s attitude in any way and the call ended with me feeling very anxious.

I recognize receptionists deal with plenty of snarky people in their work however returning the impoliteness to patrons who were not rude to begin with is just plain unprofessional.

I am sure the doctor is wonderful however unfortunately my chances of us meeting or me receiving care from this clinic is significantly lower do this experience.

I was referred to this clinic for a small medical procedure. The staff were very helpful and very experienced as I had no discomfort during the visit. Overall, I was very pleased with my visit and would return to this clinic in a heartbeat.

Tried this clinics after a unpleasant experience at a different medical clinic. I am so glad my friends recommended this place to me! Happy, clean, professional and caring atmosphere. New family doc secured!

Really terrific, professional service. I really liked the receptionist (don't know what he bad reviews are about) and the doctor is terrific! I had a lump removed on my shoulder and the Dr.explained that this lump was large enough that it could leave a bit of a divot in my shoulder which could look weird so he was going to do some extra work to make sure this didn't happen. For a few months after the surgery I actually has a bump in this area and I thought the Dr.had overcorrected for the lump removal. About 5 months after surgery the bump went away and the area is completely flat - no hollow and no bump - exactly perfect. Dr. Fernandes is incredibly skilled! Yes, I paid $400 for the supplies, etc, but I feel that this was a very low price for such precision cosmetic surgery.

Had to rebook an appointment due to a conflict with work. Receptionist was very polite and worked quickly to fit me in ASAP. Had Doctor Fernandes as my family doctor for over 15 years, he truly is the most knowledgable family doctor and surgeon in Calgary. 10/10.

Very condescending and rude receptionists. This is a common theme amongst reading the reviews. As a professional who works in healthcare and is around patients all day, I understand that it can be difficult but this patient care was a different level of horrible. My doctor was always unapologetically hours late and then rushed you through your appointment, which you needed to make months in advance due to lack of availability. Overall a very unpleasant experience and I would not recommend visiting this clinic (which you need to pay an extra service fee to be a client at).

10/10! I have been a patient here for the past 5 years and I haven't had a single problem with the doctor or any front end staff for that matter. It is always a pleasure visiting Northwest Surgical. The office is extremely clean compared to a lot of offices in the city, and it is very modern and up to date. It is very welcoming, and above all, the staff really do care about you. I must say, Dr. Fernandes is extremely caring and good at what he does.

I don't understand the negative reviews, I was in the office earlier this week for a consultation, and as any good doctor the office was busy, but clean, and very well kept. I did wait for a bit for my appointment but that is not unexpected. The staff is friendly and treated me with a caring and professional manner. I appreciate all the confirmations and the fact they want to actually talk to you to confirm you are coming. The doctor was very knowledgeable and thorough. He took his time to answer the questions I had even though I'm sure I ran past my time. I for one am glad that such caring professionals (everyone in the office) exist in this world. Please when you read a bad review know there are two sides to every story.

Great doctor and a very helpful receptionist but the management, very hard hearted people. I had to miss my appointment due to a suicide murder in the family. For them it was nothing. They just needed their $250. I was so distraught that I had to go to the doctor and I’m sure anyone in my condition would not have remembered the appointment I thought as humans they would understand but no, either you pay or it goes to collections.

Doctor seemed nice, but this reception is a nightmare to deal with. They are very unorganized, invasive, and extremely rude. I have never written a review about anywhere before and I've had some horrible customer service. But this bothered me too much not to pass along! Also should warn about the $400 fee they want you to pay.unreal. Don't waste those 3 weeks trying to see the doctor for 5 minutes. Find somewhere else.

This is a horrible clinic. Yes the doctor is nice, but there were a lot of red flags. For a minor surgical procedure they want you to pay $400 for cost of materials.as I was looking through the reviews I saw someone explaining that their doctor told them it is not for that reason at all. So thank you for sharing that! For majority of my consultation we were talking about how he doesn't get paid enough for what he does for people.so I see this is some money hungry clinic. I have happily cancelled my appointment and will not be returning. When I was told this amount the doctor went on to explain how much they would be paying in the US- $5000 apparently and they would be "so grateful" to pay that. I'm anybody wouldn't be happy paying that for a cyst removal.so okay? If you want to try to run your own private system maybe you should move out of Canada because what I have to get done is most definitely covered by healthcare. So advice to anybody- keep looking! The receptionist here is absolutely disgusting. Clearly not enough bad reviews to make them think twice about how they treat patients. I have never met such rude condescending people in my life. They even seemed annoyed when I cancelled my appointment. Doctor also mentioned the reception makes their own anesthesia to cut costs.well that is enough for me to turn this place down. Find somewhere else.

Dr. Ferndandes himself was great! However, just like all other reviews on here, his front end staff and "head nurse" need an attitude adjustment.

The lady at the front is really unprofessional and rude. I've never spoke to a doctors office and have had this issue where the staff working under the clinic/doctors have been so rude. This lady at the front desk was exasperated because I couldn't make an appointment due to university and presumed to tell me that I knew about the appointment a few month ago (not true). The receptionist needs to be taught work and phone etiquette and I am not impressed with this office and I will never step foot in this office.

Poor customer service / receptionist at this clinic. (EDIT: Upon reading more reviews, this seems to be a consistent problem)

I had called previously to confirm my appointment. They continued to call me to confirm my appointment and even bothered my emergency contact though it had been confirmed prior.

When I spoke again to the receptionist, she gave me attitude when I said I spoke to them previously.

Very poor first impression and will definitely be taking my business elsewhere.

White Coat Syndrome for reasons cannot be disclosed. Dr. Fernandes has been an excellent, considerate physician for my family. I have not, myself, been a regular patient, until recently. Have not been anywhere else.
He does not sugar coat; who wants that, anyway? Lays out some hard candy to chew, but does it to help.
He's considerably helped myself - just today, and recently, when he repaired my damaged leg.

The staff was very helpful in accommodating my hectic schedule & helped fit me in to see Dr. Fernandes.

Nice front desk staff & Dr. Fernandes was beyond professional, highly skilled & the conversation he could carry during the procedure was enjoyable.

I can see him being able to take anyones mind off of any procedure that they are enduring.

Wonderful Doctor and a Wonder full Staff. They take chronic pain patients, which is really getting rare these days. They made me feel welcome and they never judged. It took a long time, but Dr. Fernandes did surgery on my hand and I can use it again! My pain has disappeared and he and his staff helped me get off my narcotics that I had been taking for 3 years. Chronic pain patients are not always nice and I suspect that some of the ones that could not bully Dr. F.and his staff into writing narcotics prescriptions probably left negative reviews. The same thing happened to my last Doctor and he got depressed about it and quit! Shame on you people for doing that to these good Doctors! Dr. F.and Staff - please keep up your excellent work and know that the REAL people that need you out here are endlessly appreciative of you and we could not do without you! Barb.

Rudest receptionist I’ve ever had to deal with. If you have a senior parent do not let them go alone because of this woman. The doctor is too busy and does not have enough time for patients during their appointment. He is a good doctor but does not manage his day properly. I would give the doctor more stars and staff zero!
