Working just down the street from the Oil Lamp has made this our favorite go-to for the fantastic lunch specials. The staff treat us like family and are on top of everything from the moment we (or anyone for that matter) walk in the door. I can't say enough good things about the food, service and atmosphere here. Last night I finally brought my spouse, after a late show downtown, for a snack and some warm baklava. She too was impressed and now knows what I get excited when I tell her it is going to be an Oil Lamp lunch day. LOL. Great place for lunch, dinner or a late dessert after a show, museum or art gallery tour when downtown.
The Oil Lamp is a lesser Greek restaurant that borders between the downtown core and the inner city. It's not the most ideal location but it is worth the visit.
The family run establishment has a cozy feel to it. Though some of the space is getting old, it still has some charm. But when you have your location near the inner city, you also often get some visitors. On this day, a homeless man was at the front talking to himself and wandering about.
The service is good. The lady is not the friendliest of wait staff. But she was helpful and we were eventually able to make her smile.
The food is wonderful. You can tell it is all more freshly homemade rather than pre-packaged or prepared.
I can’t say anything bad about this place! They have excellent food and I really like their Caesar salad, the dressing is homemade and has a great taste. The pricing is also reasonable and the service is always very good.
Have been here twice and we had enjoyed it very much. We have had chicken, gyro and calamari. Service was good, the relationship between price and quality of food is accurate. For us, it felt like a homemade food. The atmosphere is really nice as well. Beautiful place for a quiet night.
I was a bit concerned about food safety here. Calamari looked sickly and my Gyro meat seemed as though it was pulled out of a tub of mystery translucent liquid, microwaved and thrown on a stale Pita.
Eaten here a few times, love the Spanakopita and the prawns. Had the “roast lamb” and am very disappointed. Idk if I got the wrong dish but the “lamb” is very fatty and lacks flavor completely. I expected an actual roast lamb this feels like lunch meat covered in thin gravy /: might just not be the dish for me, will still be trying something else but minus a star for the lamb
Honestly just a really bad meal. This us one of the first times I’ve actually worried about food safety in a restaurant. The potato’s and lemon looks like they were 2+ weeks old. The food was lukewarm and almost sour (not in a good way). I would recommend not eating here. I think things have gone downhill.
Wonderful greek food with a great atmosphere! The lunch specials are worth it, especially the roasted lamb because it comes with rice, so you can get two other sides. I would recommend the greek salad (of course) and the lemon roasted potatoes. Fantastic.
The appetizer platter is definitely recommended. We ordered the platter, escargot, roast lamb, gyro, and chicken souvlaki. Overall the food was reasonably priced and flavourful. Our only critique is that the lamb was a little bit bland and needed salt and pepper.
Had seen this place before and finally decided to stop and try it. Was great. Food was fresh and healthy and delicious. Will definitely come back to try other items. Had the souvlaki meal. Very tasty and filling.
We had lunch special with lamb. Everything was so delicious and love their coffee too! Also they are really nice and friendly! Definitely will come back again!
Wonderful, authentic feeling Greek experience! Great lamb and amazing coffee. Service was so kind and warm, would definitely recommend this place. A little treasure buried deep in edmontons downtown. Will be coming back very soon.
Had dinner before seeing a show across the street. Friendly, efficient service. Tasty food and good portions. I've visited a few times, never had a bad meal.
Very nicely appointed Greek restaurant on 97th st. The menu covers the standard Mediterranean items - I had the fried cheese appetizer called Saganaki, a must have for me at any Greek restaurant- it could have been hotter - in fact should have been hotter, but was so delicious I will have to let that slide! As a main I had the lunch special calamari with Greek salad and roasted potatoes. The fish and salad were very good but the potatoes had too much lemon for my taste. My fellow diner thought the potatoes were great so there you go. The room was empty when I sat down at 11: 45, and completely full when I left at 1. Prices are reasonable but portions seemed small, which actually suits me.
Excellent food with stunning presentation. I had great experience here Because i often visited the place. The atmosphere is Cool. Reasonable price with good quality food highly recommended.
Went to Oil Lamp for a business lunch. It is laid out nicely for business meetings. Service was excellent - friendly, quick and unobtrusive. Food was great with good selection of Greek and non-Greek items at reasonable prices. Definitely worth trying.
