If you're new to skating or wabt to avoid frostbite, the Oval is the place to go! The ice is smooth and there are plenty of spots to sit. People of all skill levels can be seen on the ice, so it's also a safe space to learn. They have skates and helmets (mandatory) for rent, and I highly recommend having your skates sharpened here as well.

There were lots of family with kids. Even if you don’t know how to skate, there are many skate train guide (idk what it’s called, but looks like walk assistance for seniors) that will help you balance and learn how to skate.

Ice skating training site, there have been several disputes around here. The fastest ice in the world.

You can rent speed skates and hockey skates for $7 and have a great time on this legacy oval. Great experience.

Manque un peu de toilette pour les femmes. Les fils d’attente pour les toilettes des femmes étaient très longues

Could use more washroom facilities on the bottom level for competitors for a large even like Volleyball Canada Club Nationals.

I have enjoyed being apart of the speed skating community and the ice and service has always been wonderful, I do not have any experience with the public skate as I have not skated as a public skater.

Fastest ice in the world, not just a gimmick. I play hockey here year round and have a lot of fun. The whole complex is quite warm so if you are skating casually you don't need to worry about getting too cold. The oval is quite large and is fun for casual skating. They have skate or helmet rentals and skate sharpening for $8 that takes about 15 mins. It is not often overcrowded so go skate freely. Inside the oval there is a hockey rink and a small speed skating rink. Both are usually used by their respective sport but are sometimes open for unique events to the public. Overall this is a fun place to do some skating or learn to do a few skating sports.

Played hockey here the other night. Ice was in terrible shape, gouges everywhere.plus you have to walk down stairs in a tunnel that brings you to the middle of the oval in your full gear, plus the showers have zero privacy if you're on a coed team, plus you have to pay for parking. All in all, I would be happy to never have to play a game here again.

One of University of Calgary sport facility. It was the skating facility for 1988 Winter Olympic.

Toonie Monday is extremely busy and although it is nice, it would be good to see 2 days a week because there are so many skate grooves at the end of the first hour on the ice. Second hour is a rough ride.

One of the fastest ice skating arenas I have ever been. The rental facility is awesome and rink is maintained nicely.

Great place for a family skate, lots of room on the ice, and plenty of seating. They have skate training aids available for use, this is great for beginners of all ages since they have more than one size available. The ice is always in great shape and they flood if they couple of hours. The only real drawback is having to pay for parking at $5/hr.
If you're playing hockey on the rink, having to walk up and down stairs, and through the tunnel in your equipment is a bit of a hassle.

Hockey and ice skating were activities the family loved on their visit. As Brazilians we love ice sports.

Great place to skate, lots of room for new skaters to fall down (a lot). Competitions going on at all different times are fun to see while you are there.

We have been learning skating at university organized by outdoor center. After classes we get to practice on the public skating rink. It's really fun and helpful. Definitely a nice workout for the day, not super crowded also. Ice and rink are maintained frequently every few hours and it's smooth as new. They are open till 9 in the night I believe and easy access for whole family!

Great place! Amazing to see how well it is maintained over the years and still actively in use. People working there love skating and do the best they can.
It's also a great value that the oval is connected to rest of the sports facilities and the food hall.

While I have been training at the oval for years running track and field. I am really disappointed in how the Olympic Oval has been treating club track and field athletes. For over a month the oval has been closed to club athletes, while it has remained open to the varsity athletes of U of C. While I appreciate that the varsity athletes get the ability to train. Locking out everyone else is not the way to build the growing track and field community of Calgary. The oval and the university of Calgary should always be aiming to grow community spirit not exclude others who have just as much reason to be training there and have had to pay for the chance to run somewhere half decent during the winter months

Was a very dissapointing experience for me because my friend was not fully vaccinated for a full 2 weeks. That requirement can only be found on the COVID-19 Updates page. Both the public recreational page and Monday toonie night page only stated that proof of full vaccination with QR code and ID is needed. The vending machine is card or digital only. There's cheap rentals and skate sharpening that can be done quickly before I get on the ice. The ice is very nice and smooth, however admission is expensive and there are cheaper rinks to go to.
