This is a great place especially in for skating in the winter. The rink is refrigerated and Zambonied so it's consistent in most weather. Just remember you are in the center of downtown so parking will be tough and you'll have to keep an eye on your things if you leave any off to the side.
It's my 1st visit to Calgary, Canada. The city is beautiful. This square is really very beautiful. I visited now in winter and with the central lake frozen, where young people skated. At night it is even more beautiful with lights on, illuminating statues and providing a beautiful contrast. The entire surroundings are beautiful. I will definitely visit in the summer too.
I went out to this area for my first time, beautiful scenary with the lights and people skating in it. Hoping that there would be more bonfires to gather arround on my next visit because there was only one
Olympic Square is a magnificent venue! Its stunning architecture and vibrant atmosphere make it a hub of excitement. Hosting diverse events and celebrations, it truly represents the spirit of unity and athleticism. Olympic Square is a place of inspiration and joy for all who visit.
Never been to Calgary was blown away at how clean and beautiful the city is. Not to mention awe inspiring. The skyline and high rises are very impressive. A gem in a treasure that is Alberta.
I was having a get-together meeting of seniors organized by Calgary Catholic Immigrant society. It was a fascinating meeting and weather was also Fabolous. We enjoyed a lot. We also witness ice-skating by youths.it was wonderful sunnyday. I spent about two hours in the Olympic Plaza surrounding, It was a good outting trip for us before real winter starts.
This was a nice place to stop by. There is some construction underway and there was also a loud speaker set up with some fellow speaking and all the noise from that did impact my enjoyment of the park. Lots of adorable squirrels about the park though. Plenty to read and see with different sculptures and plaques spread about the area. Would recommend, but judging by the high level of transient people's there, I would not recommend visiting here at night.
I have been here for skating in the winter, as well as stampede related activities in the summer. It is a wonderful place, and it is well kept. It is downtown, so be careful, but it is overall a great place to go.
It's a nice plaza especially when they have the water fountain on. Its bright, open and located at the east end of Stephen Ave, so there's lots of restaurants fairly close.
Never can sit a d enjoy on city hall side always to many people you don't want to bring your family around.drinking and drugs and fighting.very disappointing cause it's a place my kids and I really want to go.no matter winter or summer.security does not do there job and the police they try but it should be a team effort.security is always just sitting on there butts and sadly struggle to speak English eve. When we tried to ask questions about the park.we've stopped trying to go.which is very disappointing
Adequate security. Inspite of the area being close to a homeless shelter a few blocks away, there is adequate security round the clock. It is in close proximity to City Hall.
Clean and quiet, it's just that the once lively plaza, full of people from all walks of life I, is now seems so deserted, and thanks to the police visibility, , everything is peaceful!
A very busy skating rink with a lot of security and a long line up. Definitely a beautiful area to check out for a (somewhat) socially distant activity!
Attended the Chinook Blast tonight- lots of people, some attractions, but mostly nice to feel.a sense.of community with so many people taking the opportunity to be outside thsi evening. Although, admittedly, a bit anxiety-inducing as well: yet more evidence that things are just different now. I was a bit.dissapointed that Olympic Plaza was closed to ice skaters - they had actually thrown snow and ice over the surface to prevent the more ardent fed of the sport. A bit difficult to have an event focused on Olympic Plaza when the core of the Plaza itself is inaccessible.still - a very enjoyable walk outdoors this evening: will definitely attend next year
Drainage was an issue after some rains. Latinfest was OK, didn't seem to be as hoping as I thought. Standing water probably had something to do with it.
Beautiful place, open space and very nice.in summer the center is filled with water making a small pool for festivals and small concerts. In two terms it becomes an ice skating square and the park looks bright and beautiful.
It's a beautiful place to sit back in the city and enjoy a beautiful water feature. During the winter the water feature becomes an ice wrink. The only issue is all the drugs being sold around there.
It's pretty cool, I live across the street so it provides some interesting things to watch from the comforts of my home lol. And some others I'm just really glad I'm not down there for. At night, it's a different place for sure.
Great destination for your kids! Plenty of space to run around and for the adults to just relax and enjoy the greenery. The Plaza is easily accessible from the street and it is the venue for the popular Lantern Festival. In winter, the pond freezes and becomes a skating rink! The Plaza is also close to many popular restaurants and pubs, besides the iconic Calgary Tower. The Plaza is a must-visit if you are in downtown Calgary.
Lots of homeless people around that make it kinda smelly. Great first thing in the morning but most of the time from Tim Hortons across the street to the park you find lot of homeless and drug opioids when being asked for change mostly likely going to opioids what I have noticed while I walk around the city hope this helps you
I went with my sisters from out of province and we always have fun touring. We did notice however that being a hot, dry weather day there was no water for the birds. So a little disappointed to not see a water fountain of some kind for the birds who really looked parched. My sister first noticed it. At home I have a little bird bath for the birds and they absolutely love it. There should be downtown in the parks.
A nice little plaza where many events are held throughout the year. Ice skating is available in the winter (skate rentals are available as well for a charge). In the summer it's turned into a waterpark of sorts. Other times it's used as a plaza for mini concerts or food markets.
Although it's old, it's quite a beautiful plaza and amphitheatre. Can see the '88 Olympic torch while skating on ice, and lounging in the sun with some delicious nearby eats! All around, great place. It's ashame its not connected to city hall plaza. Would make for a very beautiful entrance.
Iconic place in Calgary. During the winter it is a great place to go skating. The rest of the year is used for concerts, festivals, etc. Beautiful place overall.
