Super cozy, great food and drink, service was top notch, and did I mention COZY. The booths and gigantic couches are so nice. Highly recommended spot!

Such a great spot! Came here last night with my dad, food was awesome and the SERVICE? Incredible! We had a waitress with pinkish hair and glasses (forgot her name I'm sorry: () and she was the best! So speedy, totally on top of everything and yet also super friendly and welcoming!

10/10 would recommend (also the bbq bacon jam burger was fantastic, so were the nachos)

Although Penny Black is not "our local, " we visit each week for fabulous service and good food. The atmosphere is perfectly suited to carrying on conversations and swapping tales.

I had wings and beer, which were both very good. My wife had fish and chips. Fish was decent, but the fries were very salty, and the coleslaw was flavorless. Our server Stacey was very good. They did a really great job fixing up the interior with a major refresh

Went in late last night after hockey for a drink and food and after 20 minutes was not acknowledged by either server despite attempts to make eye contact
We ended up leaving and finding a place that wanted our money

First time here on a Sunday for trivia. We were greeted by the bartender immediately upon entering and he gave us the info on where to sit for trivia. Had football on multiple TVs and a good crowd with jerseys watching. Service was friendly and fast and the food was great. Trivia was lots of fun and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Will definitely be back.

Pretty good wings, got potato skins too, a bit pricey for the serving size but still tasty

Meh. Just another noisy bar masquerading as a pub. Food was the best part. Small glasses of beer they pretend are pints. Lots of better options nearby.

I was at Penny Black last Saturday. Loved the food and beer. Carly was my server she was very nice.

The food is delicious and they have good portion sizes. Also the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I recommend either the fish and chips or the chicken strips and fries.

I've been going here for years. The staff are awesome and the environment is great. Usually the food is excellent. One small complaint, lately the food quality is inconsistent. A few weeks ago the wings I ordered were large and tasty, last week a bit overcooked and small. The same with the burgers. Some of the tastiest burgers I've ever had, then some disappointment. I'm not sure if the inconsistency is due to different chefs or different suppliers. If consistency of the food were the same I would give a 5 star rating. If you're a beer drinker the house lager is excellent.

Was craving a late-night steak and potato and this place just blew me away! Soooooo good everything was perfectly cooked and delicious (rare from a skip delivery) I just had to come on and give you guys a 5-star review because I am blown away on how good this is. Wasn't expecting something this delicious at 1 in the morning LOL thank you guys so much you rock! Compliments to the chefs!

Staff is friendly, prices hit that sweet spot of saying it's not high but it's not a best kept secret. Wing nights are good, but all this place is missing is some amazing deal that makes me want to overlook the other 5 pubs around me.

I am in town from Winnipeg this week. I had the pleasure of going in that when I just arrived with a great bartender, also, from England name Stacy. She recommended the burger with fries and said it’s the best gravy that there is. Well, Stacy wasn’t lying. And then decided to stop in after work today as I’ve had a busy week I needed a Guinness to help me relax. I sat at the bar top and, even though they were extremely busy, the service was still second to none. I ordered the clubhouse pizza, which was absolutely amazing. If anyone is ever looking for a local establishment, that is well run, great food, great service, and just a great experience that you have to stop in here, no matter watt. I can’t wait to travel back to Calgary and come and experience the great hospitality that this place provides. Bravo to everybody.

Great experience here on our last visit. Plenty of GF options for my celiac wife. Great variety of food. Awesome private area for our Christmas party.

The King Jack burger was excellent. Thick n juicy, ample side of mash and topped with a fried pickle. Great selection of local craft cervezas.

Wing nights are always great. On occasion the wings can be a little over sauced, however as a whole an excellent place to meet friends. Additionally, they have a great selection of craft.

The frontdesk Guy is a nice and cool Guy and their staff are professional with great customer service.

Went into Penny black for first time last night and was greeted by the most pleasant Mechele. Food was great and service was even better, always greeted with a smile. 10/10 recommend, make sure to ask for the great Mechele.

Penny Black is currently one of my favorite places to Eat. It checks all the boxes. Great food, specials, events, staff, and management. Clearly this is a great place, not just to dine, but to work at.

There's 4 main sections of this pub, whether it was planned this way or not, it's genius. There's the staple "bar" area right at the entrance, there's a pink, lush neon area of booths off to the right, which is opposite to a smaller, more unique area full of cool artwork and clever decor, complete with a fireplace. To top it all off, there's an Outdoor Patio, which is perfect, when the weather decides to co-operate.

I love Penny Black, and I hope to visit as often as I can. In the meantime, go check out their sister locations, The Station & The Park restaurants in Riverbend & Quarry Park!

Loved it! First time there. Service was great, food was really good, steaks cooked perfect. Drinks were great.

New to Calgary, my wife and I will be regulars.

Literally my favourite spot to sit back and enjoy some quality food and drinks. I’d highly recommend the steak bites, king jack burger and the butter chicken poutine. They also have a great selection of top shelf drinks excluding Johnny walker blue. I’d really like to see that added. Overall a 10/10 chill spot and grub grab.

Great burger and plentiful of fries and nice bonus of the kettle chips. Only went in during happy hour so the service was great during the quiet afternoon hours. Would come back again!

Great food and fantastic service! We were a large, silly Christmas party group of 17 people with one server and she was amazing! Highly recommend.

The food was very good, the feature dessert for December was an egg nog bread pudding which was very delicious and the pub had great ambiance!

Found out about this local hidden gem recently with my Girlfriend and I am glad we did because this place is AMAZING in every aspect. Went twice so far and both times the food and the drinks were very tasty. They have great deals for every day, great portions, and the staff is super friendly. They have great ambiance with good music, But on top of all, service is A-1, We got served by Kayla and Sidney so far and they are both providing top notch service! I raise my hat to both of them and will be back soon for sure!

Brighter and a more inviting since they renovated the restaurant. Typical pub menu. All burgers are nearly half price on Mondays. Portions are large and filling. The staff are all friendly and enthusiastic. I had the spicy chicken burger. It was good, but I found the breading a little dry as well as the inside of the chicken breast, but the flavour was quite good.

My girlfriend and I went for a wing night Wednesday at Penny Black. The wings were small, dry with too much sauce added trying to make up for it. We both don't drink alcohol, so we were shocked to find that we had to PAY FOR WATER. Yes, I think this is the only place in the world that charge for water at a restaurant. Shame on you! Won't be back.

So I am a regular at this pub and the other day I went there to meet a couple of friends for beers and I got asked for my proof of vaccination and showed it then I was asked for proof of ID so I showed her my driver’s license and then she said she couldn’t serve me because it had only been a week since I got the shot!?
This is totally unacceptable to me and I told the manager I will never come back to this establishment…. EVER!

Nice enough atmosphere, but service is really slow and it takes forever to get a drink. I’m thirsty.

Love this place. Their wings are tasty and their stuffed yorkies are the bomb. Service is hit or miss at times but good for the most part.

A generally nice experience if you like a bit of fun and humor. Food is good and the staff is friendly. All the servers are pleasant to talk to. Shianne (server) in particular, was very professional and followed up regularly.

Absolutely fantastic! We worried that the food was the same as the old pub but we were shocked when the plates came out! Amazing food! Worth every penny!

Friendly neighborhood pub. Cool cocktails, cute patio area, and great food. Perfect spot for date night. Yes your eyes do not deceive you that is a heart shaped fried cheese curd.

Absolutely one of the best places in the south to order from. They have gone above and beyond our expectations for excellent service. They immediately fixed a skip the dishes error. Best fish and chips!

I go here for lunch sometimes when I'm at work in the south of Calgary. Always good food and good service.

Went here last night and even tho they missed our order and we had to wait a while for our food, the waitress was soo nice and we got our meals taken off and free drinks. The food is AMAZING and the atmosphere is perfect. Not too loud and good music! We will definitely be back after this covid stuff is over!

*Edit Sept 2020* Just went back for the first time since the reno's, place is nice, food is still great, they've changed to all smaller brewing companies on tap, great servers.

Now here is the problem, the portions are literally half what they used to be, and the prices are almost double. I guess they decided they wanna be like 17thave or Stevens Avenue; instead of a local neighborhood pub.

Its really to bad, but a sign of the times I guess.

So I went back for lunch with a business client, ordered the same Philly/Poutine dish and was pleasantly surprised that it was MUCH improved, delicious and LARGE PORTION. Liam did extend and offer, to have dinner on the house, but I decided to go incognito to see if they had really resolved the issue or not.

Overall, great place, still a tad pricy IMHO compared to the old days (Accounting for inflation) but that’s more of a ME problem I suppose.

Service was great and the food was even better! They have a good beer selection and the Caesar they made me was fantastic! Will definitely be going back. I would have posted a picture but I ate it too quick lol

The food is good but the price is a little steep. I've been here three times and had good service each time. The server did forget our meal order though. We ended up waiting 45 mins for food. So I'd say not horrible bit not a favorite place to go.

Very good food and beverage selection. Happy hour goes to 7PM on Fridays. Service is very prompt and friendly.

It's a good place to watch sports. They have TV's everywhere.

Food and service was good. Came for the flames heritage classic game all the waitresses in matching flames shirt. But when I ask for game sound instead of top 40 I'm told by bartender the owner said no sound for hockey games.

This cozy local pub has been supportive and generous with their donations to our local cheerleading clubs parent association silent auction pub night for the past 3 years! Thank you Toni for allowing us to hold our annual event at the Bull and Finch and for everything you and your staff do!

Mackenzie put up with my awful friend.so she is deff good at her job cause I barely can and that’s why I drink here.

We have been coming to this bar for 15 years. As of the last year the service have gone downhill hill substantially. My wife and I knew everyone’s name and the server knew ours. Last night we waited 15 minutes for service and today they have only one server on trying to run the whole bar. The brothers who own the place need to take a step back from all there other businesses and go back to see what made them money. As like very many regulars after 15 years we are done coming to the bar. Sorry boys but I know you really don’t care if you miss any longtime customer.

After talking with Jason, the other night, I would like to retract what I said in my review about the brothers not caring about the Bull & Finch and their long-time customers. In fact, they do care, and Jason is going to step into the bar to see what needs to be fixed. Jason once you sort out the problems give me a call.

I have been working in Calgary since early June 2019 till sept when I will leaving and from the first visit till now I have been treated like royalty in this fine establishment.
Mikayla, Stephanie and the other staff have been incredible everyday I have come in for dinner and happy hour.
Their attention to detail and awesome food will make me miss this place.

Great atmosphere and food but the service was sub-par and the price of drinks are through the roof, stay clear unless you have a huge wallet.

Well. Nice menu and great service but the poutine gravy was very flour like and the wings had plenty of feathers in them. Yuck
On the flip side the management handled the issue very well and took care of the bill for us.

Food and drink specials daily, pool tables and what looked like slot machines from a distance. Pretty good stuff

What can I say disappointed with the Bull and Finch. This used to be a great neighbourhood bar, great food, great staff and good service. The owners need to get off the side lines and start showing some interest. I’ve been going in for over 5 years, in the past year or 2 the turn over of staff is showing that the Bull Owners have lost interest. The manager doesn’t seem to be interested in the customers requests or concerns. Her attitude needs to change or move on she’s driving customers away.

Hey guys undercover boss would be a great way to see what’s going on, that your losing great staff and they are the ones who keep your customers coming back. Bring the team back Chelle was a great manager, Saturday’s were fun. The guy who used to breathe fire when lining up a round of shooters. The server Stacy? Just heard she’s left your loss guys, time for my buddy’s and I to move on.

Food and Drink Specials are good, typical bar atmosphere. Somewhere quick to have a drink or socialize.

I normally go to the Toad & Turtle and this place reinforces my choice. I went with my wife due to her being invited by some work friends for a outing. The service was poor, as I tried to make use of their daily deal on wings but they only gave me 1 order and when I tried to order more I was actually ignored. Never got my pop I ordered after I finished my barely passable coffee. The place was pretty small and yet hosted so many people so that I could barely talk without having to shout at people which while normal for an actual pub, this is sort of a Restaurant/Pub and I feel the atmosphere is generally lacking for those who dont enjoy having to shout so much.
The wings themselves were ok but not great, I ordered a Medium ranch and I felt they were passable not the greatest but you won't find the greatest wings in Canada as they belong to a Louisiana restaurant. I would have liked to try more types of wings but I have no inclination on potentially wasting more money on an unenjoyable experience.

Great pub ambience, great staff. Fish and chips was cooked to perfection. Party tray from the appetizer list (dried ribs, wings, potato skins, soft pretzels, gyozas and veggie sticks) make a perfect share platter but make sure you bring your appetite - it's substantial. Recommended pub in southeast.

This pub has really stepped up with the new owners. Their happy hours are amazing and their new food menu is delicious and has many healthier options! We were very impressed and will most certainly return! Also there’s an abundance of TV’s for you to watch your favourite sporting event.

We have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. We consider their burgers among the best we have ever had. Do yourself a favor and try them out, I am confident that you will be glad that you did!

Service is not great. Took almost 15 minutes to get served with approximately 25 people in the bar. Bartender was more interested in her cell phone than service. She kept changing the channel from the hockey games and could not remember the channel. Finished our drinks and left after about 45min.

Didn't get to eat as the food was made wrong and I sent it back. Atmosphere is very nice. A nice little place to go after work.
