I ordered vanilla bean and for me it was extremely sweet. I only finished half. Maybe it's supposed to be sweet here but other coffee places wasn't overly sweet for comparison.
Lovely experience. The staff is always so friendly and attentive and you can tell its being crewed by people who care, a rare thing to find anywhere. It should be the first stop for any foray into the mall.
The Phil and Sébastien is my go to coffee place in the mall. The coffee is really tasty, the atmosphere has a great vibe but most importantly the staff are phenomenal! This goes especially for Charlie who went the extra mile to make me welcomed and is a big reason I keep going back!
Tried the drip coffee with a fruitier note which was good but not too "acidic" as monogram's. I will probably try the one with a more earthy tone next time. I prefer my cup of coffee to have a sweeter note. The shop is located at a quieter spot in the mall which is a good place to get away from the crowd to recharge with a cup of coffee.
Subpar service, and they asked for a tip before I got my order.
When I arrived there was no smile or hello. The man flatly asked what I wanted. I made my order and he turned the payment device over to me. Before I had an opportunity to pay they asked me to tip. Why would I tip before receiving my order? This was right at the beginning of my interaction with the company, I had no idea if the service would improve or if my coffee and food would be any good.
It is exceptionally rude of the management team to ask for extra money before any service is done or the product is delivered, and it puts their staff in the unfair position of having to answer for their rudeness. If they need more money just raise the prices.
Great coffee! I came across Phil & Sebastian when I visited Calgary last year, and now that I’m back in town for stampede I popped in for a visit. There’s a few locations around Calgary, I believe; I visited both the location by the river and the location at Chinook Mall - the latter had donuts and they all looked amazing, but I opted for the ube and coconut which ended up being a good choice! Highly recommend if you’re in Calgary.
Remember the customer pays your wages i asked the girl at the counter to cut the donut in half to share with a freind and you thought i asked too much the attitude and service could do without never going back
A solid and dependable Phil & Sebastian location, which manages to create a fun & modern coffee house atmosphere in Chinook Mall. I like to take family members here for a great cappuccino at the start of a shopping outing. Has become pricey though.
I always buy the leche flan donut its so good and I wanted the cremebrulee one as well however, the staff Mateo stopped me from buying the creme brulee BECAUSE of the Gelatin. I was so happy he mentioned due to the fact I dont eat pork as a muslim. I just wanted to thank Mateo, I was so glad he mentioned it, very welcoming too. I think hes the best I've encountered for customer service! Will never stop buying the lecheflan donut hehe. Thank Mateo!
Ordered an iced americano and a hot vanilla bean latte. Ice ran out, got a lukewarm coffee. Latte was not hot, just warm. The coffee taste was really bad when compared with other locations (downtown, bridgeland, etc). Bitter and feeling the grains of coffee. I will never come back here again.
It used to be one of my favorite coffee shops, but they have lower the quality of their service, resulting in a lower quality product. In the last few times I've been there, my cappuccinos and mochas have been cold.
Normally I really like going to P&S, and being in Calgary for the day, I wanted to grab a coffee. Unfortunately I couldn't because the batista had so much attitude and snark for such a simple order. I had to walk away. I called him on it, and he said they're short staffed - which is sort of the way of life now a days. No reason to treat someone with that much attitude. I can understand if I was rude, but being in the coffee industry, ordering coffee as a decent human is something I do regularly. If the team can't be civil in the least bit, maybe it's time to close.
Great coffee. If the pendant lights were higher and the tables didn’t wobble when you put your foot on the base, you may end up with more coffee to drink
A local coffee chain. This location was small, tucked away in the corner of the mall. Coffee was decent and staff were friendly but the seating area lacked cleanliness.
Why wait in line at Startbucks when you can walk a little bit and get a much better coffee cup with beautiful latte art. I swear they have the best Latte in town, or at least best at Chinook Mall
For a fancy schmancy cafe that carries unique donuts and fairly good lattes, I find it bizarre that P&S doesn't offer heavy cream or cinnamon. If they did, they might have an edge over coffee chains like Starbucks.
Their coffee isn't my favorite but I'm not going to disparage them for that. The space is clean and stylish though possibly gets a bit bottlenecked in areas while waiting for a drink. Staff is friendly and efficient while also creating high quality drinks. Definitely worth visiting if you're already in Chinook Centre and need a coffee.
It's tucked away behind a corner so Make sure you know where you're going if you want to visit. You likely won't just stumble upon it while shopping.
Excellent! A hidden gem in the Chinook Mall, a whole seating area and patio around back is much bigger than it first appears, and set up for work or study or just chatting. I couldn’t resist the cheese scone. Of course the coffee was rich and full flavoured!
The service was spectacular. Kristen was super lovely and chatty. I had to have a special coffee due to diet restrictions and she took the time to make sure it was made correctly and taste amazing. I will be returning.
Terrible customer service. I’ve been going here for well over 10 years (Marda Loop) in hopes that something would change, but unfortunately I think it’s just the culture at this place as it’s not just one person. Good coffee, but not worth the attitude. I can find good coffee in other places too. Will be cashing out loyalty rewards and taking my business somewhere else.
Umm, the donuts are amazing. Enough said. The GF Vegan doughnuts? Yaaasss queen. I really enjoyed the coffee, it was rich and flavourful. Thank goodness I don't live in Calgary because I'd be here everyday.
Love it. One of the big four coffee roasters (in my opinion) of Calgary. The decor and ambiance of their locations are always nice. Just got the app and collecting their points. Gonna get that roasters tour. I love that their recent mugs are designed and made by Kinto. Oh yeah, the coffee is fantastic.
I like their coffee but this location is so incredibly slow and the employees are pretentious and rude when you ask about the menu. Not worth the price for the wait not to mention they are always sold out of their 3$ donuts. It just needs to be better.
Phil & Sebastian is my favorite place to go for coffee while in Calgary. They have great baked items and very good coffee. This location is positioned within the mall.
Their chai tea latte with oat milk is ADDICTING! But it’s expensive though so watch out ($7+ regular size w/tax). Nice cozy place to read book, chat with friends or run some laptop work. This is my go-to cafe in Chinook mall
Excellent coffee! Very good Gluten Free baking! Quiet place to connect with others. Customers washroom. Staff were prompt and friendly. Great experiences every time I have been there. I would strongly recommend over any other coffee place at Chinook Mall. Going early on a Saturday morning to get a table would be advised.
I visited on 10/28. Usually love this location because the service is great. After asking the coffees to stay, I asked the barista if I could have it to go and she replied yes. Then I said the same thing to the guy who took my order because obviously he didn’t hear me and he was looking for me with the croissant on a plate near the seats. I told him I wanted it to go and suddenly the female barista (she had glasses, brown hair, with a red patterned floral dress) aggressively yells at me that she heard me. I wasn’t even talking to her this time. Lol she clearly saw afterwards that I was talking to the other guy but didn’t even apologize. My latte was not even full, no latte art, it was extra hot like I ordered, but clearly didn’t meet the expectation of the usual quality they provide.
That woman was so rude, clearly incompetent and somewhat weird.really to be so aggressive over a minor issue that she misunderstood. What do you get after yelling at a customer and ruining their day?
Great coffee. Great service. Everything was upto the mark, except it was too slow. The wait time was too much, because of lack of staff. They definitely need more staff atleast during rush hour. Other than that, everything was great.
Very slow in here. I waited 15 minutes for a latte, after I waited 5+ minutes to place my order. I had heard good things, but the hype didn't live up to the experience. My latte was warm, not hot, after the wait, but I really didn't have time to start the whole process all over.
I was amazed at the size of those donuts, even if they were ARE baked. They were like half the size of a regular donut. I guess that's why the store clerk said they're like "mini Hoopla, " lol.
I liked the one with rainbow sprinkles. But the raspberry one was a mistake: it was dry and crusty. It was bad enough it was basically mummified when I got it, but I had a bite and had to spit it out. It was inedible. Needless to say, it obviously went into the compost.
I think the Snickerdoodle cookie was a little on the bland side. Good for the dinosaurs in this family, but for my sweet tooth: it did not suffice. So I only had half of it.
The mascarphone brownie was bitter sweet, I don't have an opinion on it.
The chamomile tea was soooooooo soothing and calming.
Yeah. I had 4 desserts in one night, then washed it all down with this floral tea.
The strawberry crumble muffin was good, I had it for breakfast the next day.
The scone I had was also good, I saved it for lunch the next day. I could have eaten it all. But I know it's full of butter and carbs, so I was nice enough to share.
I had the other tea for lunch and I found it tasted like Red Rose or some basic black tea.
This location has excellent service, beans and other supplies, and served an amazing cortado. The texture of the steamed milk was heavenly - silky and consistent throughout
Espresso & Tonic with chia pudding is a favorite of mine, especially after a hot day at work. Baristas are friendly, and this place is one of the few reasons I ever go to Chinook.
