Friendly staff and professional vet, and their price is unbeatable, would definitely recommend

They were so lovely to my sweet Daisy! They explained aftercare and what to watch out for. Highly recommend them!

Friendly reception. I had my dog spayed and feel the process was smooth. The prices are comparable to other clinics in the city.
15 August 2023 1:40
I was not impressed with this clinic. They seemed more interested in charging for extras than they did for my requests which was a spay, dental work and microchip. The requests were made before the appointment, then at the appointment, no one had a clue or recorded what I had requested. Just very unorganzied.

This review is purely for information for future owners and dental work, I cannot speak to this clinic as a whole as we had come from Beddington (their sister clinic) to get dental work here as they had an earlier appointment. I am merely advocating for my dog and putting necessary information out there for other owners to make the most informed decision that I did not get the liberty to do.

My dog had to get his upper canine dealt with as we had chipped it at the river while playing with rocks. The Beddington vet had given us our option of either a root canal for him or a extraction. I mentioned that I did some research on both and due to him being in pain (not wanting to play with our other dog or with toys) we agreed it was best something was done. We opted to do an extraction - we had discussed items such as an infection possibly happening in his mouth and how long the wait was to even see the dental specialist. Because I relied on the vets expertise and being nervous of the possibility that his tooth could get infected, we opted for the extraction. Note that I had called the dental specialist office known in Calgary, and they informed me at the time that to come in for a consult alone would be roughly a month out. (in hindsight an extraction is NOT the route I would recommend any pet parent as you have much better options). Our appointment was booked for Tuesday and the extraction was completed. In my untrained eye I noticed when we got home that the suture site looked a little odd (not as clean as I was hoping it would look) but as I’m not a vet I didn’t question it further. Note that during this visit no mention of any complications after the procedure was mentioned to us.

Come Friday morning I had a feeling to check his mouth and sure enough where they had done the extraction there was a HUGE hole left behind. We brought him back to the vet and they informed us that this was beyond their skill set and was then referred to go to the VCA care clinic off Deerfoot and Glenmore.

I’d like to stress that the vet who performed his surgery also did not notify us while we were signing the papers nor did the waivers note that there is still a chance that the extraction site might fail and a hole could appear. (Another note is that, when they called me for a follow up on Saturday, I was told by this clinic that they knew it was a risk, a small risk and thus did not say anything. I have stressed to them that you don’t go into surgery for yourself without knowing all the risks before you agree to them. They have agreed to this, and as far as I have been told they noted that the vet team had a meeting about this and best practices moving forward. However, due to the fact that I was not present and cannot entirely rely on that they will. I have posted this review).

The VCA specialist dental vet had noted to me on our phone call prior to his surgery (which ended up being booked for that Saturday) noted that our dog was the 3rd one that week he had seen for this very problem. He stressed that if a chip or break happens within the first 24 hours you could go and see a dental specialist (at emergency) and have what I believe is called pulp therapy (please speak to a specialist about this as this is just what I have heard and understood but my understanding is limited). This procedure from what I gathered is basically a filling on the tooth in question, he noted there is a high success rate with this, the other option is a root canal as it’ll still “save” the tooth and there are no further complications.

Clearly this is a risk for this type of surgery and this risk was never once brought up to us. Had I known that to repair such a hole in his mouth would have costed us the same amount of money to get a root canal done, in a heart beat I would go back to get a root canal done instead of an extraction. I only wished that someone had posted such a review so I knew what all my options are when this occurred.

Wonderful veterinarian clinic! The receptionists are very kind and respectful, and make sure your pet is comfortable upon arrival. Dr. Patel is very knowledgeable and has offered great care. We have been coming here for the past 10 years and will continue do so. I highly recommend this vet to anyone!
28 May 2023 18:17
Normally I don't write reviews, but I really appreciate their services and their pricing. Staff were very nice, especially the ladies at the front desk, as well as some of the vets. It's very refreshing and re-assuring to have a vet clinic in Calgary that offers such high quality services for such cheap prices for those who are struggling to pay for their pet's basic cares and needs.
12 May 2023 8:39
I got the sense they really care about helping animals and they did a great job on my dog's dental work. I'm thankful I found them.
20 March 2023 8:45
Our vet clinic, affordable and very caring place. Love the vet techs! Prices make owning a pet not as stressful! Thanks for being our go to vet clinic!
26 February 2023 20:53
Good experience, I would definitely recommend this place. The receptionist is very sweet and welcoming. Also really good prices!
10 December 2022 19:21
Great experience had my dog spayed here. Receptionists are amazing and friendly doctor was great. My dog is normally nervous when they take her away from me but she wasn’t here. Shopped around and could not believe what other clinics were charging compared to Prairie Winds. Thank you for pricing that means you don’t have to be a millionaire to own a pet in Calgary!
30 November 2022 13:18
My dog had a yeast ear infection, the doctor just swabbed dogs ear with a Q tip and sent me out with ear drops. I got home and read instructions on the leaflet in medicine box and it clearly stated, "ear needs to be properly drained of infected fluid and an effort to be made to dry it out before drops should be administered". The doctor/helper didn't mention or did syringe drainage or made EVEN LEAST AMOUNT OF EFFORT towards it. Extremely DISAPPOINTED. It wasn't Dr. Patel, it was the new helper also of East Indian background.

Prices at this clinic are same as any other Vet if not more. I would recommend you STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE IF YOU LOVE YOUR FUR BABY!
25 November 2022 12:53
I had shared and rated place at 3 stars because in my time of grief the reception staff was compassionate and caring. The Vet was ok but raised his voice on a couple of occations and spoke to me in a very condescending manner. I was going to go in for a follow up however due to the Veterinarian personally questioning my 3 star review and telling me to change it to a 5 star review as they did everything i asked. It was not about the service it is about how I was spoken to and treated.

These guys are true professionals they will take care of your pet like their own no hidden fees or high rates very reasonable rates and great service I have been taking my pet here for many years I have never been disappointed Dr. Singla and Dr. Patel are the best in the business 10/10 recommend this place
13 September 2022 21:20
Recently took my cat for a tooth extraction. The staff were very professional. Dr. Singla carefully explained what needed to happen and any possible complications. He quoted me a price and guaranteed that it would not exceed that price. My cat ended up have two teeth extracted and the price did not change. It was also 1/3 of what the other vets I contacted had quoted. Highly recommend Prairie Winds!
09 August 2022 17:00
I took my mishka to this clinic as it was an emergency, we were leaving for a long trip and she seemed like she had ear infection. Dr singhla was so patient and so loving with her. He gave her so many treats and the staff was just lovely … I hate that I didn’t find this clinic sooner … really recommend this doctor … I see there are some bad reviews here but our experience was excellent … they were so friendly and nice!
08 August 2022 1:08
Dr. Singla was so kind and helpful! We prayed that we would find an affordable vet to help our 6yr old pup get some much needed dental extractions done, and Dr. Singla and the clinic were the answer. Thank you so much to all of you there at the clinic! We are so grateful.
27 October 2021 18:05
Dr Patel is very caring about the animals, and not overcharging like other vets. I am not sure why there are negative comments about the service. I find the staff friendly and responsive.
12 September 2021 6:01
My husky, Cooper, was ready to cross that rainbow bridge. I took him here and the staff were amazing! So compassionate.
Thank you fir helping Mr through that time.
19 April 2021 7:36
Say you’re not a client when you are so they can deny the mistreatment of you and your pets:) they shake, yell, and get mad at your pets for being scared (and for good reason apparently). Just not the way a vet should conduct their work.very unprofessional and who knows how they would have treated my pet had i not been there.
16 April 2021 14:31
Ever since I adopted Lulu; my Weimaraner dog, I used Dr. Patel as our family vet. We had all the necessary vaccinations required and attended all the referred specialists as indicated by Dr. Patel. Around January 6,2021 we noticed that our dog was having complications breathing and lower energy than usual. I was concerned with the symptoms and proceeded to make an appointment at Prairie Winds Animal Clinic  on January 8th but I was told that there were no available appointments  until the following morning (January 9th).   When I took my dog into the clinic I had to carry her in since she was barely able to walk and had complications breathing. After an examination/auscultation performed by Dr. Patel, he reassured me that my dog was fine with no lung issues and that she was not having respiratory problems. According to him she just had a fever and proceeded to give her an injection which would treat this symptom. I asked him 2 times if my dog needed any further treatment or antibiotics and I was told that she would be fine a few hours after the treatment performed by Dr. Patel. He told me that if the symptoms proceeded into the following morning,   I should take her into Mcknight Animal Clinic. During Saturday night (january 9th) my dog had a very rough night as she could barely breath and was laying on our couch without moving and looking very sick, on the morning of Sunday (January 10th)   I proceeded to take her to Fish Creek Animal Hospital since her condition had worsened severely over night. After 1 hr of examination at the hospital, I was told that her condition was severe, following further examinations it was concluded that my dog had a bacterial infection and that her lungs were completely compromised hence the breathing difficulties my dog had experienced since January 6th. I was told that there was nothing to do and that my dog had to be put down the same day. They also told me that if they had brought her in earlier they could have done more for her. She was put down that same afternoon. This event brought great sadness to myself and my loved ones as she had been another member of our family  for about 3 years. Looking for more answers the following week, I proceed to request a formal report, history and diagnosis from Prairie Winds Animal Clinic. However to my surprise, the document included recommendations, examinations and specialist reports  suggesting to take her into a neurologist which he claims that I decline. I had taken her to the neurologist 2 separate times which I have documentation for, and so did he. The documents were altered by the clinic to make it seem like I was suggested further treatment for my dog which they claim that I had declined. I feel that this is extremely unethical on their part since I would have gone above and beyond to have my dog the proper treatment and care. Altering the documents after my dog had to be put down to make it seem that we did not care for her is wrong! The lack of efficiency and ethics at this clinic has left us without one of our most valuable family members.
15 April 2021 19:14
Great experience! Super clean, Very friendly, Great value but of utmost importance they were thorough and do proper follow up calls and reminder calls. They definitely care about the animal. I recommend them to anyone looking for a vet.
25 March 2021 9:28
I will never visit this clinic again.
Dr. Patel offers a good price i'll give him that.
However, when it came time to spay my dog, I was told that at that time they didnt have an "assistant" that they needed to perform surgeries. So i was put on a waiting list. It has been a year now of waiting. I was under the assumption that they were overwhelmed with the Pandemic & they would get to me when they could. Well, i got tired of waiting, my dog is nearly 5 now. I called yesterday inquiring and the receptionist said she would speak with someone and call me back. Never called back. So I called again today, only for the receptionist to tell me that because my dog is so "old" i should go to a different clinic. LIKE WHAT? ! Now i can understand that MAYBE they had the right intentions of referring me to someone else with more knowledge on older dogs. But HELLO, you had me on a list for over a year and never called me ONCE.okay okay, maybe iI should have done my due diligence and called the clinic, but isn't that the WHOLE reason i provided my name and phone number so that you could call me? Well thanks for nothing guys, you've officially lost my business and i will no longer refer my friends or family to you. Because i have waited so long, i now have to pay a "mature fee" else where, not to mention you put my dogs life at risk/ So all in all, i would not recommend this vet to your worst enemy.
01 March 2021 15:52
I have been taking Luna and Roxy to this clinic for many years. Dr. Patel is always excellent with both of them. The prices are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone who loves their pets and want excellent care.
28 February 2021 19:32
Do not bother replying to me with a “We cannot verify that you were a client” statement like the many other below. I was a client. I am filing a complaint to ABVMA. Avoid Prairie Winds Animal Clinic. This guy received us at the desk and did not even look me in the eye. He does not know how to handle my dog who initially got scared of him, he went on and dragged her towards the back of the clinic and I could hear them struggle/shove her to the crate without trying to soothe her with words. Later I realized that that man was Dr. Patel the vet in clinic. I don’t trust him how could you be a vet and not show interest around dogs. After the procedure, I just wanted to drive away from the as fast as I can. Then on my way home, they called to demand that I come back because I have a $70 outstanding balance from my previous visit. That was my first and only visit which I paid in full, how do I owe them money, I have not been there before with my pup prior to that day. This vet is unprofessional, does not speak respectful English and is a money-grab. Got his credentials from another country where he unfortunately was not taught basic client and patient service etiquette.
06 February 2021 19:17
I’ll keep this short, even though I’d like to say a lot more. Sarah the receptionist is very nice, friendly and informative, although the doctor is not! He is very dismissive, unprofessional, unhelpful and just there to take your money. Just so my comment isn’t dismissed with a “you are not even a client”, I have posted my past record with them. As a new pet owner, little to no information was given by the doctor as to what was recommended for my pet. I had to ask for the dewormer once the doctor finished his 2 minute initial exam and looked at me and asked, “what else do you want? ”. As an added bonus, you will probably have to wait an hour past your appointment time. I went here once more to give them another chance, but never again. If you love your pet, ANY other vet in town is better than this guy.
28 January 2021 1:22
I don't really get why people are leaving negative reviews just because ths clinic is calling them out.

I got both my pups neutered and spayed here and they both came back with really neat and clean stitches. They also recovered fairly quickly and are not hesitant when they're are there and being checked.

Yes, it's a small clinic but it's not a bad one. The receptionist is really nice and you can tell that the doctor loves animals.
12 December 2020 0:13
Absolutely appalling how they treat their patients and customers. Will never go anywhere near this place. Disgusting.
09 December 2020 7:01
All my animals Love this place, the only vet they actually like. They definitely treat us like family been going here for two years now!
03 December 2020 20:04
Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional treatment of animals. Even by the owner’s rude and dismissive responses to the negative reviews, it’s quite easy to tell their character.
26 November 2020 21:39
Very professional and a very kind staff! They were willing to do all to help my cat, and they were very caring.
25 November 2020 17:26
One of the best places I have taken my puppy too. He was feeling a little off, and I could see it and Dr. Patel diagnosed him right there. I was thoroughly impressed with how he treated my puppy, like it was his own, and since that day, whenever I ever need my puppy checked, that will be my go to. The front desk is also just amazing. They treat everyone with care and respect, and I was reading some of the reviews, and I just want to say, don't let someone's experience dictates yours, try it out yourself and then make the decision through the experience you had:). And remember, it's also very immature to write a review just to back up your friend when you did not go to the clinic and experience it for yourself!
23 November 2020 14:46
Amazing service! I recommend this clinic to anyone who cares about their pets! My dog was so comfortable with Dr. Patel and you can clearly tell that he cares about your furry friends!
20 November 2020 23:41
There’s definitely a lack of professionalism here, I mean all you have to do is read some of the responses to the reviews by the owner. I’d much rather go somewhere my animal will truly be taken care of, where the care givers are knowledgeable and respectful. Hopefully the business is able to improve and the owner can maintain dignity instead of take their time to make rude comments towards people who call them out.
14 November 2020 3:18
Edit: shocking how owner responds the same thing of you're not our client without knowing the first and last name. Canned response for any negative review. Sad.
10 November 2020 1:15
This place is willing to disclose whether you are a client or not regarding online reviews. The lack of client confidentiality is unprofessional just like their attitude. This place can’t handle criticism either.
09 November 2020 16:55
These reviews are horrendous. I was notified by a friend of her awful experience here recently, and people need to know that this place doesnt care about animals - there are many better vets who actually care and love their pet patients and treat them with kindness. Spend an extra few bucks and take fido elsewhere.
04 November 2020 2:49
The reviews are bad enough.the responses to the reviews? !? ! Unprofessional, arrogant, and callous. The disregard for human decency is repulsive. The owner should be ashamed.
05 June 2020 5:31
Great vet that doesn't price gouge like most vets out there. I took my cat here for his annual shots and once to get an abscess treated and he charged less for treating the abscess than he does for kitty's vaccinations.
30 May 2020 12:41
We discovered Dr. Patel by word of mouth. We took chance and took our precious pet Tinkerbel to see him. We found him to be loving, caring and very professional. Our dog really likes him and his amazing receptionist, Sarah. Our dog is very smart and she can tell good people from bad ones. It is very rare to see our dog relax with both of them. We are very happy that we got a great doctor. Recently our dog had a tooth surgery. It was flawless and uneventful. Dr. Patel is so skillful and competent. He has done an awesome job. Our Tinkerbel recovered amazingly fast without any complications. As a matter of fact. Tinkerbel was sent home with 3 pain killers. We only needed one as she recovered so quickly. We are grateful to both Dr. Patel and Sarah for taking such good care of our dog. We highly recommend this clinic to anyone who loves their pets.
06 April 2020 9:55
I want to thank this Vet clinic for taking all my friends in with their pets, be it to get immunizations, surgery of any sort such as spaying/neutering. They are the cheapest in town and outside town and the service is IMPECCABLE. Please DO NOT change a thing or prices! Falconridge is the price gougers. They over charge in examination fees, to any surgery. My neighbors were quoted 1.8K higher in surgery price and another vet was only 800.00. That is how Falconridge Vet works and when confronted, they banned the client/patient due to embarrassment & them not just having class to admit they were in the price gouging business. I was recently a victim of this with my cat at Falconridge and Westwinds saved my cat! Westwinds care for animals and they're not money hungry. Thank you for everything and keep being amazing! We love you!
17 March 2020 2:17
Need a vet? Dont come here. If there is no vet tech, the vet cant help your pet. My cat got into it with one of the others. My regular vet was booked but said we needed to bring him to a vet, so went here cause it was close, called ahead. Arrived, he took one glance at my cat and said he needs sutures and I cant help, no vet tech. Apparently vets get the title of Dr. But the techs do the real work. The girl at the desk felt bad, which was nice but he didnt care about the welfare of my cat.
14 March 2020 13:35
Very Good pricing! Dr. Patel is straightforward, simple, and quick in diagnosing as well as treatment. He doesnt recommended anything unnecessary - I.e, doesnt do it for the money, which is amazing! I have had great experiences with both my puppies!
06 March 2020 14:12
I previously rated this vet as a great vet until today. My diabetic dog is out of insulin and there was no vet on site to dispense it. I asked for my blood tests to go to another vet and was told they don't have access to that info, only the vet does. So here I am off to spend a small fortune to get my dog rechecked by a new vet at an additional cost. I highly recommend seeking another vet.
02 March 2020 1:42
Dr. Patel is amazing, first vet to discover he has a heart murmur (13 years old). Only vet my dog had actually liked. He gets down on the dogs level and pets them. A vet that actually cares, he calls personally to follow up. Non-rushed service (he spends time with you and explains everything in detail) Great, polite, prompt receptionist Sarah there also. Great prices. Super affordable. Worth the drive from Chestermere.
28 September 2019 18:22
This vet has the lowest prices in the city hes only $28 a visit i get both my dogs vaccination here and its under $100 now i wouldnt get major surgery there but everything else i highly recommend im on a tight budget so i never used vets until i had no choice but with his costs i can afford regular checkups
08 July 2019 0:01
The vet is good with my cat. His prices on vaccines are very good. However, I wouldn't go to him for anything important.
01 July 2019 22:28
Dr. Patel is an amazing vet! His prices are unbeatable and his service is outstanding. You can tell he really cares for his patients.
31 March 2019 21:17
One of the best priced vets I've ever been to. And very caring vet. I can not say enough about this vet h3s always guy time to see us on short notice and his prices are better than anywhere else we've looked at.
25 February 2019 21:01
Had my Rottweiler and my cat looked after here. The vet and his assistant run a lovely clinic and the animals are always in tender, safe hands. You'll never have to stress leaving your fur babies with these guys!
