Wonderful experience as usual. Busy location but great to see. Had lunch: cup of artichoke spinach feta soup, bacon and gouda melt plus gingerbread latte. All prepared fresh, served hot and tasted great.
Staff friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Seating area bright, open and plenty of seating.

Mmmmmm… the Italian wedding soup was amazing! The egg salad was piled thick. I Love that we have a place like this close by for soup and sandwich, we would go all the way to lazy loaf but now we don’t need to. Sooo good.
Oh and the carrot cake and the pretzel chocolate caramel square were also sooo freaking good!

I have purchased Primal's soup at the market and finally made it to their café. What a cozy place to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and try the delicious soup of the day. Everyone behind the counter is so friendly and welcoming.
We always take home a few frozen soups (how convenient and easy to travel with and no risk of leaks)!
All of their soups are gluten free and the ideal remedy for a chill or an ache or the need for a hug.

Hands down, the BEST Date Squares ever! Wonderful soups and sandwiches, too. Always try to get here when we're in back in town.

It is a cafe with good food. The stews and sandwiches are tasty. The espresso cake is fantastic.

The mushroom soup and tomato soup are out of this world. Their frozen section is great to enjoy at home.

Had a really lovely day at Primal Grounds! I say day because I had a vehicle appointment nearby and decided to work for a bit at the cafe while waiting for my vehicle.and unfortunately that "a bit" timeline needlessly turned into "all day".

When I arrived the ladies working the morning shift were all friendly and when they realized I had a laptop, they made sure I was in a comfy corner so I could get some work done.

It definitely got busy during the day, especially around lunch - lots of customers, lots of regulars, lots of delicious smells.

I ended up having many lattes, a grilled cheese and took home some carrot cake. All lovely! And I agree with all the other comments about cake slice size - it's a big one, definitely shareable!

I won't be back to the location that worked on my vehicle, so I won't need to annoy Primal Grounds by plopping my body there all day working again, but can say I'll absolutely be back to Primal Grounds for coffee and to try more of the food!

I had a Chai latte with soy milk and a vegan pot pie. Both were phenomenal, but the pot pie was such a pleasant surprise. It was a dinner size pie. I both and will definitely be back.

Beautiful discovery ️ Staff are polite & pleasant, eating area and bathroom are very clean and the food is beyond my expectations. Generous portions, delicious and aesthetically pleasing. Highly recommend.

The best place in Calgary for healthy, yummy homemade soups and sandwiches. The staff are all so friendly. Family owned and operated business. Lots of vegetarian options for soup and sandwiches. Love this spot

So so so good. Had a chicken pesto sandwich and daughter had the grilled cheese and we shared tomato cream soup.just delicious

A soup place with only three hot soup…. And everything else was cold. I clearly was very disappointed and she didn’t even offer to warm up any of the to-go cold soups or offer any alternatives. We got the chicken pot pie instead and they definitely microwaved it because the crust got soft.chicken pot pie is suppose to have a nice flakey crusty. Seemed like a nice place with an aesthetic dining area and decor aside from the food.

Unfriendly and arrogant staff. Average coffee. I love going to local coffee shops, but this was a let down for sure. 1 star for nice décor.

Been here twice now for lunch, and each time I felt that I paid too much for what I got: in short: overpriced coffee, soup and sandwich place; quality is good, barristas are slow and need trading. Not coming back; Good Earth at Glenmore Landing is way better

Really lovely place to get a bite to eat. Went there for lunch and it wasn't too busy. Great large washroom with change table for babies. The food was fresh and delicious, the soups were great! There was lots of variety of things to choose from and delicious baked goods. All very reasonably priced - soup and sandwich for 13$. Their homemade lemonade was also great! Would recommend checking this place out if you are in the west hills area.

When you walk in, the ambiance is great, people are friendly, food looks awesome…. But, it just doesn’t deliver. I really wanted to love it, but just couldn’t. The bread was dry, the muffins don’t have a lot of flavour, and the coffee leaves a lot to be desired.

Omg sooooo good! Loved the cream cheese, tomato.lettuce sandwich. Grill cheese Panni with sprouts yum! Highly recommend this place.

I'm a regular lately. Coffe is good, baking is good (you can split the carrot cake 4 ways, it's huge and delicious). It's specialty is soup, but I haven't tried it yet. Must be 50 kinds.

Even more delicious than I remembered. The owner is a genius with soup flavors. The Date Square is the best I’ve ever had. Bring a friend and share it. It’s huge!

This is really great soup! And it would have to be if they have soup in their name:) I couldn’t decide what soup I wanted so the staff offered a taster of each which was really nice! The sandwich was amazing too. Such soft and fresh bread. This will be a lunchtime staple from now on. Customer for life.

The soup and the staff were beyond expectations and I will absolutely be going back to enjoy both again soon.

Recently tried this kiosk at the Avenida Food Hall. Their carrot cake was DELICIOUS and so was their Tomato Basil soup. Plus, the icing on the cake (figuratively speaking), was a super friendly operator!

A great cafe on Richmond Road. They serve a variety of homemade soups and entrees along with baked goods. All items made in-house. I’ve enjoyed soups, sandwiches and desserts here, always good. They also have their soups available in frozen take-out format. Also good coffee. The staff is friendly and service is great.

This place is ridiculously expensive. Egg salad and veggie sandwich is $12, that is insanely high.

For the price getting a pre-made soggy sandwich from the cooler was not great. The cream of tomato soup I had with it was delicious though. The sandwich may have even been great if it was fresh.

This place is epic. Best soup in the whole city and the staff has always been most excellent. They make a turkey sandwich that's worth driving across the city for, and treats second to none. I always grab a couple frozen soups to go, and enjoy them at home.

I just stopped in quick for a bowl of soup to go. I got the Manhattan clam chowder which isn't really my favourite soup, but I know this place has a great reputation for delicious soup from my memory years ago and oh man, it sure lived up to its reputation. Probably the best soup I've ever had. Service was great and the cheese scone was perfect. I cannot wait to go back and try ALL their soups.

I love this place! All of the staff are so lovely and friendly and they put up with my never-ending demands for the BEST cheese scones EVER. Love the borscht, and the big fat bread slices used on the sandwiches!

This company goes above and beyond.
To send a care package after hearing l was unable to eat til the day l tried there soup just filled my heart.l had caught covid by my roomate who had a simple cough and l ended up sick 1 week later with shortness of breath, body pains like someone punching your bones over and over, weakness, fatigue, tough to comprehension at times, and loss of appetite.to me there soup was literally a life saver.l wanted to eat when normally l just couldn't come to terms trying before.thank you for being the light when all else seem so dim. GOD BLESS YOU

Soup is literally worse than Campbell's chunky soup. It's so stingy that when I got the clam chowder it had no clams. Like no protein at all. Same deal with their other soups. I have tried a few and its all overpriced mediocrity. I really tried to like this place but flavored water should not ask these expensive prices.

Just when I think I've had their best soup, I try another flavor! I LOVE the soup at Primal Grounds and always find the staff helpful and friendly. Today they recommended the Spinach, Artichoke and Feta soup to me and it was delicious!

Amazing soups, especially nice that they are all gluten free and many dairy free options as well! The broccoli cheddar and potato, bacon and leek soups are a favourite by far. It's homestyle soup and so hearty

So good! The new location is awesome. I can't believe it took me this long to check it out. Terrific soup and sandwich combos, with really goos coffee and amazing deserts. Definitely check it out.

BEST soup in Calgary! 2 days in a row we came here and both days the soup was STUPENDOUS! YUM! We need a place like this in Vancouver!

The food quality is good, but a bit expensive for soup and salad place. We spent $40 for a soup sandwich combo + chicken pie + large soup. The large soup doesn’t even come with a side of bread or cracker. The sandwiches included in the combo are only half of a the veggi and egg sandwich so we had to upgrade to full size sandwich. I had to do the math in my head since I thought I was overpaying, but the girl in the front was nice enough to break it down for me. Honestly spend a little more and go to a proper restaurant in the area. Famosas is close by and much better value for the money. Would have recommended if prices were lower by 10%-20% or if the soup and sandwich combo wasn’t a robbery. Last but not least, nothing has a price tag so you are guessing how much the items costs.

So the real skinny on Primal Grounds, in it's new location on Richmond Road, is this: They took over the old Good Earth spot and the difference between the two is night and day. (Good Earth you should take note here) The new operator, Margaret, is as smart a restauranteur as a person could be. She's friendly, she's a wicked good cook, she's willing to listen to ideas and suggestions, she hires good people and treats them with respect (something the Good Earth people NEVER did here), her food is TO DIE FOR, her soup is legendary, and the entire W side of Calgary knows about her famous mouth watering Carrot cake. Primal Grounds extols everything a neighborhood coffee shop should; warmth, comfort food, atmosphere and a constant desire to return. It's the complete polar opposite of what the Good Earth joint was. Thank God Good Earth and its miserable, rude owner was there for a while, as it showed all of us what we never want to experience for the sake of a coffee again. Primal Grounds on the other hand, is a safe haven to have good food, hot coffee, a smile and a laugh, and enjoy a rejuvenating break in a busy day. 10/10! #PrimalGroundsCalgary #CalgarysBestCoffeeShop

Went in for the first time around New Years, there wasn’t much fresh soup left and only a couple of sandwiches, but we were met with a warm welcome by the owner.
Since then I have been back numerous times with friends and bought the delicious soup to take home and enjoy later.
Every soup has been amazing, made with fresh ingredients.
Today I stopped by and as well as buying some soup I bought a chicken pot pie to taken home to have later, and it was truly the best pie I have eaten!
I’ve made many chicken pot pies myself, but this was truly outstanding full of chicken and vegetables.
The desserts are also wonderful homemade creations, certainly large portions good for sharing

Cozy local spot with delicious sandwiches and soup, decent coffee and massive portions of cake. Take home soup options as well which has brought me much joy when you catch a cold and need to step up your soup game.

None of this would bother me except the front lady was extremely rude and condescending. I got the feeling she didnt like having to wait a whole 2 extra mins for us to figure out what everyone wanted to eat. Sorry we have 3 kids with us, (maybe it's not meant to be a kid-friendly environment) but she should find employment somewhere else that doesnt require customer service.

I always try and support local so it's sad I will never be going back.

This cafe is quite nice for the atmosphere, and the sandwiches are pretty good too. But for the coffee I am not a huge fan, as the espresso is not dialed in correctly and the coffee tastes old. All in all the experience is quite good for inexpensive coffee and a place to study.

True home cooked food, done with a touch unrealized by modern cuisine. Soup is inescribably flavourful. Full on gluten free options, and also has great artisan bread. Ingredients available upon request. The frozen soups they sell are just as good at home.

Margaret (owner) will treat you like family.

The soup is wonderful. You can buy it frozen to take home. They do gluten free and vegan. There is an excellent selection of coffees and toothsome desserts. They have a selection of nice sandwiches, pot pie and mac and cheese. I'm a regular having frequented Margaret' s earlier spot on 37 th street SW. I have their coffee and their soup cards. The current location is a nice place to spend time in and the staff are friendly.

Love this place! It has delicious homemade soups with gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian options. Warning: if you sample all of them, you may have a hard time deciding. They make an excellent egg salad sandwich. I’m looking forward to trying their mac n’ cheese. The tea, coffee, and homemade cakes are all great.

The service is lovely. It’s nice to see this place full of regulars. This is a great small business I’m happy to support.

Margaret has always had top of the line product made in her kitchens. She serves it up with that winning smile and always personal care. Pam and the staff continue that love and care with everything prepared for their customers enjoyment.
