Prince's Island Place Rental Apartments

Lived here for about almost a year while attending the University of Calgary. Can't say enough good things about this building. Great staff that are very nice, always helpful, and kept the building so clean. It's in a great location for students, as it's a 5 minute walk to the U of C downtown campus and a 5 minute walk to the train to get to the main campus. I will miss living here and would recommend it to anyone.

I lived in this building from July 2018 to March 2022. I really liked this building, the staff were friendly. It’s in a great spot, close to bus stops & trains. The laundry room was good. I would recommend this building to anyone.

Wonderful place for any newcomer to Calgary. Situated in Downtown, these apartments are close to all the C-train station, Bus stops required for daily commute.also staff is really friendly and all the basic amenities available.will surely recommend to any newcomer to Calgary

Moving in was very stress free.the property manager was also available to point me to the right direction and assisted when necessary

Great location. My family has lived here for six years. Unfortunately, the building seems to be having some issues. Fighting next door neighbours resulting in an ambulance being called in January, parcels being stolen from the mail room, cockroach and ant infestations in February. Plus the usual frequent fire alarms.

Vehicles broken into three times in the last 2 years. The last time my vehicle was broken into, the “cameras” weren’t working. Elevators don’t work. Ants in my suite. Roaches in the hall way. No security guard (we had one for a few months). Half the laundry machines don’t work… the staff seem nice tho…

Decided to live here due to the free gym facility and affordable rent. They decided to close down the gym until further notice. Wish they had manpower to keep it open

Building is very well maintained. Staff are fantastic and I really like how they go above and beyond with their seasonal decorations!

Great apartment to live in, next to Princess Island park and close to LRT. Best thing about it is the staff, starting from the manager Evelyn to the rest including Alexander and Sunny. Very thoughtful with covid precautions and cleanliness.

The building is clean and secure. Caretaker is kind and Welcoming, he helps with everything that we need.

Its a fine place to live but ANTS! If you are generally unclean please dont like here they have ANTS! I have to clean with vinegar water everyday to make sure they dont come.

Building is very well maintained, price and location are great. Staff are phenomenal. Highly recommend.

Yesterday my sink clogged up no water was passing through it. It was a morning time I goes to the reception and wrote a complaint and personally asked the lady to do something, she was unable to help due to long weekend none of the staff was working. Later Milis (the staff) was listing to my concern and came up to rescue and fixed the sink. It was not his job but he helped me out.
I find Milis very helpful and willing to help, need such persons in the building who is concerned about the tenants.
Genuine review!

Entire suites are infested with bugs and when asked for bug removal nothing changes. Very old building in bad condition overall.

Although we didn't move into this building due to the fact we needed to be closer to our workplace, I would highly recommend it. We saw several suites which were are clean and freshly painted. The building is well kept and the manager we dealt with was fantastic very kind and welcoming. If we ever decided to move dt this building would be highly considered, excellent location and again the staff were awesome.

I've been a tenant since September and have been glad to have chosen this building to live in. The building staff are wonderful and I've never had an issue with them. Evelyn and Sunnie in particular have always been helpful and patient with me with whatever issues I had and have done their best to resolve issues on a timely basis. I do get the sense that the staff genuinely care about their tenants.

As for the building itself, it is pretty clean and the staff work thoroughly to maintain sanitizing and cleanliness during Covid. Sometimes the elevator has random trash thrown by tenants, but it is usually taken care of ASAP. I had a slight ant problem when I first moved in, but since speaking to Evelyn and Sunnie it has been taken care of with diligence.

My only critique for the building/staff is enforcing a stronger mandatory mask policy. With Covid ongoing and getting worse, the property managers should enforce a mandatory mask policy in every part of the building that isn't a resident's suite and have signs around the building, including one at the main door, that tells visitors/tenants that they must be wearing a mask when they enter. There are a lot of elderly tenants and families here, so in the interest of our general safety the mask policy should be stricter as well as keeping an eye on the elevator with people ignoring the 2 people/1 household rule. I have, a few times, been forced to share an elevator with multiple people who ignored my saying that they are not following the policy.

It is a great choice and experience, in particular due to the staff. Managers, including Sunny and Evelyn and their husbands, are extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you, Sunny, for our little talks:) My suite is completely renovated and even features a new oven, and the building is well-maintained and thoroughly cleaned which is crucial amid Covid. The elevators are working at all times, and I never had to wait to use laundry facilities. The building was beautifully decorated during Stampede and Halloween. Since I don't drive, the proximity to the train station and bus stops is important, and I enjoyed 3-minute walk to the riverside. I've never had any issues and I strongly recommend this building if you consider living in downtown.

I have recently moved in this building and the staff is exceptionally welcoming and friendly. Sunny, Richard & Evelyn has done a lot of help in my initial days of moving here. I had so many questions and they have answered to each one of them very patiently. I am glad to be one of the tenants in this building! Keep up the good work guys!

I am enjoy living here. It is an extremely clean building with excellent waste management options including composting. Sunny one of the Managers is amazing. She has been a delight to deal with since first contact. Richard and the rest of the safe are great too. The laundry facilities are more than sufficient with the add comfort of a furnished waiting room. The elevator operate is a cool dude. And the attached convient store is full of everything including super friendly staff. Cheap rent. Highly recommend

My Review is not for the building. My review is mainly for two of building management staff, namely Sunny and Richard. They are outstanding, decent, helpful and very professional. Most of all, their level of integrity is something to aspire to. If you ever decide to live in the building and you need any help, please approach them. They will handle your request in a very professional way and they will provide you with great customer service. From maintance request to cleaning requests to even simple advice related to the building or your apartment. They really care about the tentants and strive to provide them with the best service. They really made my stay at the building very pleasant.

I would like to thank them and I hope that management appreciates their work like we do as tenants.

The five starts go to Sunny, Richard and David. They were always helpful, nice, and hard-workers. Wherever issue you might have, they will be there to help the tenants. The other building management people are nice too, and helpful, so the tenancy goes without any major issues.

I lived in this building for almost 4 years. The elevator issue was fixed, and now you have the regular maintenance that happens every now and then.

Hey guys, just an update regarding this rental property. In the agreement it says patio, party room and gym. However when we get there they told us all of them are closed due to Covid, that doesn't make any sense where eveyother rental companies have opened their gym and patios. I spoke with a renter who told us the gym was closed since April

If you are going to close what it's called part of the rental agreement you need to drop your rent $ to honor your agrement and your tenant trust. I didn't see it here. Going to find another place

My review is only about Sunny and Richard. They are really nice, hardworking, helpful and they’re not only great managers but good friends as well as they really care about about the tenants. I really love my stay at the apartment because of them.

Utter nonsense responses and delayed answers by resident managers. I have been in this building for a year now. Since last Winter, I am facing the heating issue which is pertinent into the drawing room (hall) but not very much in the bedroom. The logical explanation would be the pipe clogged in the hall which has not been checked since the whole summer. I have raised the 5 complaints so far and every repairman gave different suggestions. Now that winter is upon us, I asked us to move to a different suit at least, I have been told by the manager here that - it's against the rule that one can move from 1 hall kitchen to other 1 hall kitchen. I have not heard of any such rule. I was supposed to be provided with an resolution but it's been 20 days I am still awaiting. This is simply pathetic!

I was supposed to move in on September 1st to unit 706, but the unit was so dirty, disorganized, the oven and fridge were not in place, the appliances were old, the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom were old and busted, paint all over the floor and bedroom closets. I received an email from the manager saying to grab the keys as if the place was ready, or they were expecting me to clean up and put everything in place. The only reason I decided to rent this place was because of the warm and great customer service I received from sunny and Richard which I still appreciate them. But the other people who seemed so careless about my time and money were very disappointing, and made me regret the decision I made, and took my excitement away. The funny thing is I had family members move in to 1212 last month, and I seen they received an issue with cleanness and old appliances, but following the complaint they received I thought they would do better, but mine was 100times worse. I am so disappointed, because of the time and money I have wasted, and I might have to get an Airbnb because its not something that be done anytime soon plus I had to cancel my furniture delivery. I wish I could take my decision back, I feel the disrespect. Anyways I will just talk to property owner, so I could get my self out of this mess. But I would like to say Sunny and Richard have been a great help, and thank you for that. What a disappointment!

The response to COVID has been excellent! The building's common areas are always being thoroughly cleaned, even down to the individual apartment doors! The whole team is always super friendly and kind - special shout out to Sunny who is always a delight to run into:)

Excellent staff extremely professional yet at the same time there's an atmosphere of family in this building which is something that I really love. While I love all of the staff members at Prince's Island Place Apartment I've got to put a special shout-out to Sunny and her wonderful husband. Sunny brings an air of sunshine and positive Joy to the lobby and no matter what's going on she's always got a smile on her face and I'm telling you I don't think any of these staff members sleep because no matter where I looked there was always somebody wiping down the high-traffic touch spot and sterilizing in the stairwells and elevators.when it comes to family and safety hollyburn puts that first. I'm coming out of the lifestyle that was most shameful and rough and while I've done my best to make my transition smooth I have had a few little issues in and around the building and hollyburn has done an amazing job of working with me to get past these situations. So I want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of the staff at prince island place for all that you do.it has been and will continue to be an absolute pleasure to reside within your apartments.

Great place to live. Response to Covid 19 was 100% and ALL the staff and manager were relentless everyday! Many great restaurants and river walk all within a few blocks of this location. Friendly tenants too!

It is an excellent place to live. The building is clean, safe, the elevators work well, the laundry room is neat as well. The staff is very friendly, they are always smiling. Thanks especially to the manager Evelyn for making this place a fantastic place to live. The building is located to close to Princes Island Park, close to the train, all of these is a plus. Walking distance from the library, superstore. Thanks for the decorating the building according to the season or holidays, that was very nice!

I had been living in the building since 3 years. Over the period of time, I have seen multiple changes in the building and its in it best condition today. The building is well maintained, clean, renovated suites and comparatively far spacious then other buildings in the area. This all wouldnt have been possible without the staff they have today. The building staff is the best. They listen to the queries and act on it ASAP. Even during COVID, all the staff members are ensuring that they clean every corner of the building at multiple times, from lift to the patio, common areas, all the suite doors and lobby etc. For some time, the building had issues with the elevator however that is been resolved. Now the only problem that the building has is, they dont accept any payment using credit card but they are working on it to resolve asap. However other then that, the building is the best and the staff are awesome.

I lived in this building for a year. Very convenient location in downtown steps away from all amenities. The building gets cleaned on a daily basis and they do have a security agent patrolling the building every night to keep residents safe. I personnaly never had an issue in here.
The 3 elevators work great and I like that whenever there is an issue with them it is addressed right on the spot.
Can't say enough of the friendly staff, always there to help with a smile on their face. Thank you Evelyn, Wilson, Dave, Sunny and all resident managers. It's been awesome with you guys, keep up the good vibes.

Just wanted to share couple of things we love about Prince's Island Place:
1.on top of our list is the location of this property, it's just a short walk from my office and 2 blocks off the train station
2.the rental price is very reasonable considering it's in Downtown Calgary
3.cleanliness of amenities, well-maintained
4.yes there's more, and this one is a bonus: need something from the grocery store? They got you covered - literally because there's a door you can access in the main floor connected to the shop so no need to go out of the building to buy something esp.for cooking or perhaps any basic daily needs
5.finally, the friendly and very helpful building management staff, Sunny and Evelyn went the extra mile to assist us secure the unit and during the entire application process (keep up the good work!)

We're so excited to move in next month, and to call this place our very first home in Canada:)

I am living here for more than a year. I have no complaints here. Maintenance is really good and the staff is better in addressing the issues promptly and quickly.

Just had to pop on here to say that the staff there are quite friendly and every time I come in Sunny is always and I mean always friendly, kind and caring towards everyone. Even when some one is barking at hereshe keeps her cool. Just kind of found it amazing and would recommend people to live here.

The Managers and Assistant Managers at Princes Island Place - Hollyburn Properties are very caring, attentive, very passionate and the service is very welcoming. I am have nothing but good things to say about them and I am 110% satisfied with their service. Thank you and God bless them. Barry

Hollyburn cannot meet the bare minimum security standards with regards to this building.absolutely disgraceful.staff are good here but whoever makes the decisions higher up should be ashamed of themselves.do not rent here

Do NOT rent here! This building is EXTREMELY UNSAFE and does not have ANY security. Finally tenants are coming together to take legal action after lawyers have agreed to take the case on the premise of multiple dangerous circumstances arising from this. There is ZERO security and cars are broken into everyday. Do not listen to the property management company that will post here, it is complete lies. They just want more renters! If you live here, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING YOU FIND AND SEE! This is on Lawyers' advice!

They are fixing the elevator.but it is never finished. They renovated the gym.but the pads smell violently like so weird chemical, so U cannot exercise.if u do it.it make u terrible headache.

Please acknowledge bad reviews that this building has before moving here.
-Building is not Safe, when elevators don’t come and have to walk down the stairs to find out that there is homeless sleeping in the stairwells, literally some mornings would take up to 30 mins just to get out of the building as if there is homeless spread out sleeping you would need to walk via parkade.
-Washine machines expensive at $2.50 per wash and they don’t work all the time just takes your money but won’t wash clothes
- People that live in the building and have kids are so inconsiderate of neighbours kids are screaming and playing every evening in the lobby.
- Fire alarm testing every week!
- If you enjoy smelling cooked fish and all different sorts of food at mad hours of the morning and night then maybe this place is for you:)
- “Fitness Centre” oh my considering water is included in rent you would think people wash before coming to the gym but seems like they go a whole week without a shower can’t workout around that
- Actual units are well looked after and clean, staff does a good job at setting them up for new tentants which impressed us. All staff is also friendly
We moved out in November after 2.5 years in the building I was going not to say anything and leave all the notes to myself but it’s been 3 months and myself and my girlfriend asked once in person, 3 times over the phone and twice by email to send us a letter of reference as we wore good tentants and would of appreciated that but clearly was too hard for them to look after this.
Do not recommend.

One star is generous. I am so relieved to have finally moved out. Do not live here for the following reasons:
- Elevator wait times are ludacris. I feel for anyone with mobility issues because sometimes they never come. You can expect to wait 15 minutes and often times the one elevator that is actually working for the 19 floors is packed with frustrated people so you can’t even get on it. Be prepared to walk down flights and flights of stairs when you’re already running late. It’s unacceptable.
- The heat in my apartment couldn’t be controlled. It was like a sauna 24/7 and if you open your windows, you’ll hear sirens all night from the nearby fire department and the downtown traffic.
- Bugs. I am a very clean person so was surprised when I found beetles everywhere. In my bed, kitchen, you name it. This was a few months in and I certainly didn’t bring them with me. Once I thought I had gotten that irradicated, then came the ants. I bought countless traps which helped. I was on an upper floor so clearly they had infiltrated. Disgusting.
- Children everywhere. If you like to feel like you are waking up in a maternity ward, welcome to Prince’s island place. There are babies crying at all hours on my floor and multiple children who bike through the lobby and hallways with no regard for anyone else. There was a 2 bedroom apartment on my floor that I swear 8-10 people live in.
-I had to work from home a couple of days a week so that meant I got to enjoy the weekly fire alarm checks while I was on calls - are the alarms really that sketchy for you to be checking them that often? ! Also, the water was off once monthly at a minimum.
-No security. There are unsavoury characters around. From people shooting up beside the dumpster you need to use, to people who are not in their right mind inside the building (a lady threatened to throw a glass bottle at my head as I was entering the lobby)
-Good luck at getting anything fixed. Instead of sending professionals, they send their front desk staff to do a bandage job but the problem isn’t fixed properly.
-Some of the dryers don’t work which you discover after spending 2.50 a pop. It’s like playing the lottery but there’s no prize! The washing machines can sometimes give you surprises left from previous users too. Fun!
-The employees are nice enough (there’s one man who has raised the status quo because he and his wife are so sweet) but there are definitely some crotchety employees who could give zero cares about you. It’s all a business after all.
I wrote this review because I wish someone had told me this before I moved in. Avoid!
