Despite this hospital not being as well funded as the health facilities in Calgary and edmonton, most of the staff here go out of their way to take care of the patients, and are more compassionate than their healtcare counterparts in big cities.
12 November 2023 0:55
Don't bother. Unless you're a drug addict you won't be seen anytime the same day. Glad I could donate to your parking scam.

I recently had an emergency gall bladder removal at Red Deer Hospital. Thanks for the staff of Surgery Unit Nurses and especially to Filipina Nurse Lota morning shift and Phanji working Night shift During my 4 days stay I had care from the All of nurses in Surgery ward.

We’re here for an annual treatment and as per usual it’s overflowing. Kudos to the nurses etc but something really stood out today. I’m sitting in a horseshoe style hallway and from my vantage there are 7 known washrooms in this immediate area. 5 are staff and 2 are public. In one hallway alone there are 4 washrooms for staff in about a 50ft distance with 1 for public. Seems a bit slanted that that patients and caregivers have 4: 1 difference in washroom access?
21 September 2023 21:08
The nurses and doctors on the maternity floor were all very helpful and caring when I had my son in September, I was in the hospital with him for 4 days but the nurses all made it an easier experience, I appreciated that everyone was soo great! Thank you for helping me bring Kai into the world and for taking such good care of us during our stay.

Where should I start? There’s so many stories.

I went into the emergency as I was at a pharmacy they suggested I go to the hospital immediately. I was stung by a bee on my leg and I am highly allergic to bee stings. I am given 20 minutes before I pass.

I went to the triage and the nurse at the desk, took some of my information and told me to go sit down, and somebody would be with me in the next 2 to 3 hours. I told her no in 2 to 3 hours I will be dead, so I walked out and it was a good thing. I have a ex who works in emergency and a doctor as well. I got into emergency grabbed the doctor he went into panic mode. Got me in a room and got me fixed up. Between him and my ex and I managed to live.

***Public Safety Warning***
My uncle was sent home with sepsis of the blood and an artery in his leg ruptured shortly thereafter. He could have gone into septic shock and suffered total kidney failure, which invariably leads to death. He was sent to Calgary for emergency surgery and will undergo several surgeries to repair the damage. The "doctors" are incompetent and indifferent to the point of malpractice. No real diversity in hiring, unless you are taking out the trash or changing out catheters. Sort of tribal mentality works well in the sticks, but not in a major metropolitan area.

Lack of meaningful performance reviews and evaluation means that the Red Deer Regional is toxic from the top down. Finance, pharmacy, to security. No more excuses. This place needs to be audited and management sent home.

Born and raised in Red Deer. 37 years and I still remember the assessors at RDR abruptly sending me home when my appendix burst, erroneously explaining that it was just "stomach discomfort. "

The same old gripes: "COVID-19"; "staff shortages. " Guess what? My mechanic shop went through COVID-19 and staff shortages, but they still greet me with a smile and still know how to properly diagnose a mechanical issue with my car when the engine light comes on. Why are we so lenient on health care in this city?

From the Hippocratic oath text:

"I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgment, and I will do no harm or injustice to them. "

They feed patients like my uncle Jello and starches, even though he is diabetic. Recovery is compromised when the nutritional value of food is next to nill.

Something is very, VERY wrong.and unlike the "doctors" at RDR, I actually know what I am talking about. The time has come to speak up. I'm not talking about the people who work hard and actually do care, because we know some of those people exist at RDR. It is simply too far gone and only a structural sea change can save it now.

Why the impassioned speech? Because my uncle almost died due to sheer incompetence. I feel compelled to warn others.
05 August 2023 10:00
Because I am not dark skinned or fresh off the boat. I had problems breathing I was discriminated against and denied help. And making people pay for parking while in the ER is a joke.
17 June 2023 7:14
Red Deer emerge reminded me of what third world medical looks like. The Ripped and torn chairs in the very confusing and unclear "where do i go" waiting area looked straight out of a creepy greasy spoon dinner. Security only concerned that i wear a covid mask not that i actually get help. The self important triage staff openly laughed at my self diagnosis (staph infection) like i was an idiot and called it a rash instead. With my foot swelling like a balloon, i sat there waiting almost 4 hours without even seeing one doctor. My nurse appeared high on pot was totally unskilled and had no idea what was going on. These people dont move fast at all. Out of frustration i left without treatment and went home. It was during an oiler playoff game, they were openly cheering as my condition was worsening. I would have happily paid out of pocket for my visit if only i could see a good doctor in a reasonable time frame. The staff were openly more concerned about the outcome of the hockey game. What a serious lack of professionalism. This place is a joke I will never go back there, not ever. Zero stars.
31 May 2023 17:39
This hospital is an absolute joke, aswell as the staff working in it. Personally, I think everyone needs to be fired and they need to rehire new staff.they definitely don’t put the CARE in health care. As a Canadian, I am absolutely disappointed in our healthcare system. Do better.
19 May 2023 15:04
I recently had double hip replacement at the hospital and to all of the staff and I do mean all of the staff THANKYOU. From admitting to discharge and was treated with nothing but caring staff. You could see that all staff were busy multi multi tasking but as a patient I was never not cared for. To Dr. Bryce Henderson and his team THANKYOU. You all have changed my life.
19 May 2023 10:06
The children's psychiatric unit is a joke. Intake treats you like you are less than living. The people who go here already feeling mentally fogged and fleeting are then treated like animals. If you show any type of resistance or concern over what you're told to do they wave the threat of security in your face like it's nothing. My boyfriend was threatened to be forcefully stripped from his clothing during intake after he showed that he was uncomfortable. How do you treat someone who is already in mental distress like that? There's no humanity in this hospital that I've seen. He left "treatment" more mentally unstable than ever and still has flashbacks and trauma from what he went through at this hospital. A place where you should be taken care of.
13 May 2023 14:28
In regards to the triage area, the ladies who cared for my four-year-old son were exceptionally kind and especially helpful. We're very appreciative of the care provided.
13 May 2023 4:54
I had an MRI on my knee in 2019. The staff were friendly but the booking process was ridiculous. The MRI interpretation was pretty basic and didn't answer the clinical question if my knee was surgical. I was chatting about my experience with an Edmonton MRI Tech earlier this year who then asked if they could see my results. They were quite shocked to discover that the Red Deer MRI protocol sequence was missing 2 essential views. I shared my concern with my family physician who then referred me for a repeat MRI at the Royal Alex Hospital. It's quite unnerving to discover that the Red Deer MRI doesn't follow Edmonton protocol. It's not an accident that Edmonton is rated the number 1 city in Canada for health care quality. It's time for Red Deer to embrace the high standard MRI protocols that is provided in Edmonton. I was naive to believe that an MRI is an MRI no matter where it's taken. Location does matter an Red Deer MRI provides less thorough MRI knee examinations.
12 May 2023 7:29
My advise is always to ask what is given to You and all side effects.

In case of brain / cognition impairments, family members could/should be involved in advocating with/for YOU.
30 March 2023 20:21
The nurses have not been able to answer a single question i have.oh also i’ve been here since wednesday (it’s saturday now) and saw a doctor once.anytime i ask what is happening, for example, when i can leave, the nurses say that the doctor is on call and held up in emergency.what is the point of being a hospital if you don’t even have doctors.i have also heard on the intercom that we are at full capacity so where the hell are the doctors.i am not getting the support i need and would rather drive across the country than come back here.
15 February 2023 18:05
If you are a Healthcare professional you should probably act a little more professional and not be telling your patients or their advocates to Shut up.if you are a professional act like it. I'm so sick of the attitude of nurses and doctors who think they are better than anyone else. ACT PROFESSIONAL.let's put the CARE back in Healthcare. This incident happened in Unit 25/ maternity where there should be a little more understanding.
05 February 2023 6:45
8 hours with kidney stones in waiting room
Finally get in and they don't even get me pain relief or check on me grrrrrr
31 January 2023 5:13
Unit 36. You actually get *less* rights than prisoners. You are allowed ZERO outside time, even supervised. ZERO access to a gym. ZERO outside food or drinks. Cant even have family bring you a snack. All windows have blinds locked to shut out the sun. The foreign nurses act like wardens, the canadian nurses try to be kind in a sneaky way. You get frozen bread as a snack in between child-sized meals, and are prohibited from using a toaster or microwave. Shampoo is rationed out in 1/4 medicine caps. It is a dehumanizing "mental health ward. "

It'll make you suicidal.
27 January 2023 7:17
My mom came in with acute pneumonia on a Tuesday and things looked dire. Today is Saturday, almost Sunday and she has improved greatly. The ER staff was wonderful and attentive, showing compassion and being really upfront about what we may expect. She is currently on the 3rd floor and the RNs, LPNs, HCAs RTs and her admitting doctor have been fantastic! I really appreciate how hard everyone is working here because I know the chaos they are surrounded by everyday, especially right now dealing with Covid-19, Influenza, RSV, pneumonia, plus all the other illnesses, aging, trauma etc, etc.
Anyhow, if anyone from the hospital reads this, just know how thankful I am for the care and compassion you have given. Shawna
23 January 2023 1:06
Garbage place. Uneducated staff don't know how to do anything waiting over 4 hours over a broken rib oh yeah but I can wait its fine. Everyone at this hospital needs to be fired. Called the same guy up 10 times, nobody else. Failed HealthCare.
04 January 2023 6:48
We brought someone in for day surgery. The hospital was easy to navigate. The staff and nurses were super friendly and helpful. The cafeteria food was very tasty and reasonably priced. I have only good experiences and things to say about Red Deer hospital. Thank you!
29 December 2022 7:41
Shout out to the guys and gals at Red Deer emergency! Got sent there the other day for less than an emergency, and after a rather frightening 6 hours sitting way too close to some actual sick people, finally met up with a couple of the kindest and smartest doctors around. The first one was Dr. Ray Ortleib, and his replacement in the morning was Dr. Mike Weldon. I wish I had the foresight to make notes of the nurses names, but they were so fast and efficient that I barely got to see their names, let alone introductions.
The 5' exam table was not the best bed I've ever slept on, but not the worst either. All in all a productive night, and you know how bored I am when I say not all that bad.
29 December 2022 0:14
This place is brutal. Wait times are unnecessarily long and the service has never improved since I was a kid. Long time citizen who is convinced the drive to Innisfail is better time spent.
10 November 2022 15:22
This is a poor excuse for a hospital, The wait times are beyond horrendous the staff is very friendly but the efficiency is lacking very badly Red Deer needs more than one hospital.
07 November 2022 4:45
I had an appointment at the Medical Specialties Clinic located in the hospital. The staff and the Doctor were great. They answered my questions and made me feel at ease when I was there. I am a very nervous person when it comes to Doctor stuff but settled very quickly because of the atmosphere. Thank you Dr Nomani and staff for taking such good care of me.
28 October 2022 6:54
Worst hospital I have ever been in. Most of the staff have absolutely no bedside manners they leave you in a chair in excruciating pain while they walk back and forth. Don't know why they triage cause they choose whichever one the want not the one that needs the help more. Disgraceful hospital would rather go to innisfail were they actually care about their patients. DON'T GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!
25 October 2022 9:04
I got here at 8 pm and explained that I have need heavily contemplating suicide, the time is now 1 am and I still lhavemt been able to see anyone. This hospital is completely understaffed and the staff present show no regard for the safety of the patients.
09 March 2022 1:46
What dedication! I can't believe these folks could ever deserve any criticism. I came into Emergency yesterday with a heart issue and they were on it in a flash with exceptional competence and (in spite of everything) cheer. They did an excellent job and got me going again. I later learned that they were very understaffed due to unvaccinated people infecting them. Thank you Sara and all in Emerg in the Red Deer Hospital! We all owe you so much!
04 March 2022 20:42
Joshua Merchant did an excellent job on our case. He is a consummate professional who is always willing to assist me.
10 February 2022 17:51
Been there with shortness of breath and very high pulse. But no one cared for about 2 hours

Second time wait there for 8 hours but they do not care about you at all.
The worst experience. Its not free, we do pay taxes.
10 February 2022 12:41
I don't think the doctors working here have actually taken the Hippocratic Oath.or they just aren't aware of the meaning of an oath.
23 January 2022 22:20
Very friendly Nurses and Doctors, Paramedics. Took care of me and all my freak outs in a quick and caring manner.
18 January 2022 5:28
Any time I've been at the Red Deer Hospital and the cancer center, I've always appreciated being met with kindness and friendly conversations from staff.
Thank you
"I believe that attitude is everything. "
05 January 2022 8:46
Thank you to all of our health workers in this difficult time. I had a CT scan done, from entering the building to leaving was under 30 min. Keep up the good work.
25 December 2021 15:50
I arrived at Red Deer Hospital Emergency Department a few days ago with a very serious issue. The Emergency room Doctors and Nursing staff worked very quickly to figure out what was going on. I was admitted to hospital but due to a shortage of beds remained in Emergency room, through no fault of the excellent staff. The area they service is huge and between what they normally see and now also Covid the pressure on our Doctors and Nurses is high. Having said that, I was never treated so well from the Doctors to the Nursing staff. I cannot say enough. You will always have my support. Thank you so much for taking such good care of me.

Note: Red Deer RCMP, Peace Officers, Police Services, Red Deer Hospital Security. While in hospital I was able to observe how our Law Enforcement really keeps us safe. Thank you, I do not know how you keep up with all the issues.
09 December 2021 11:04
I was looked after promptly and friendly. Staff acknowledged I was in lots of pain, and took me in right away. Very friendly triage and staff and dr was attentitive and caring. Listened well. Thank you red deer regional.
29 November 2021 22:34
I recently started have "stroke like" symptoms this week, one sided body weakness/ odd sensation, slurred speech, sudden loss of motor power in legs, headache, You know, how a stroke presents.

I had to go the ER twice in 1 week, twice on the weekend, all times AT THE ADVICE of a Dr/health care provider. First time at the ER was told it's likely migraine. I have NEVER had a migraine that made me develop sudden stroke symptoms: no diagnostic imaging was done at that time.

I detest going to the hospital, (especially now with resources so thin) So, second time it happened I called Healthlink, thinking migraine and I'll be told to stay home and rest. I was told hang up and call 911 it had reached the point of an emergency. But I got the "migraine cocktail" YAY it helped! I can feel my leg/face/ again! Until I started having severe side effects from those meds, ended up back at the ER for treatment to counteract meds they gave me) Was told if it came back or gets worse COME BACK IN. The symptoms came back worse and now with noticeable bells palsy.

Every time I went to the hospital it was following advice from a Dr/ health care provider. My last trip to the ER with worsening neuro symptoms was today. 5 hours of waiting to see the neurologist to determine if it was stroke. Finally get to see the neurologist, finally had my head scanned. He does an exam (5hours after onset of symptoms, symptoms much less noticeable, still have the droopy face, weak leg problems walking) only for the neurologist to declare verbatim: "this is all in your head". And "sounds like this is just a cry for help". " you've been here recently". Asking if I have "stress in my life", "The next time this happens try to ride it out at home".

. Please think about that.

A neurologist told me if I ever get new STROKE SYMPTOMS again to "TRY AND RIDE IT OUT AT HOME. " Could it be a stroke, could it be some weird new migraine, how am I supposed to know!? ! I'm not a Dr, I can't tell the difference they can present the same symptoms! That's why I was told to come back if it got worse!

I just wanted to know if I was having a stroke or not. Instead I left the ER with a droopy face, difficulty walking, one sided numbness, no attempt to treat my new symptoms and a list of people to talk to. You know, so I can talk away a possible stroke. That works right?

The nurses, dr's and other staff were wonderful, helpful, kind and compassionate, they made a terrifying health scare manageable.

Another (nice) dr did try to clarify for the neurologist, saying that he may have simply
been suggesting to try to remove stressors from life in an attempt to limit future hemiplegia migraines. I have been minimizing my migraine triggers for the past decade with limited success, but sure. Here's hoping I don't have anymore "stroke like symptoms" that I get to ride out at home.
24 November 2021 21:02
Absolutely the best experience I have ever encountered! I went to the Red Deer hospital as I needed a wound checked out, and had such an awesome experience! Nurses were so phenomenal and The Dr was very good as well! Thanks for all u do here ya'll
22 September 2021 15:25
I had the misfortune to spend some time.e in this hospital in 2010. It was the worst experience of my life. Nursing staff quarreling with each other. My own nurse treated me like dirt and refused to help in any way. Crying telling me to shut up that she wanted to go home. Not professional at all. She went out of her way to be nasty.
I was to ill to fight and I didn't hang around in Canada to make a complaint. I was left for weeks waiting on my treatment chopping and changing doctors. Doctors going on holiday and left me to rot. I can't find the worst words to explain my feelings for my treatment. Eventually had cardiac arrest and was transfered to Calgary. I had better treatment there.
24 August 2021 15:49
Went in for 2 stitches ended waiting 5 hours an 2 in the room waiting for the doc, taking up room that other people needed,
Ended up leaving after he left me for a another hour of no info, only go if you are in dire need of medical attention
24 August 2021 7:51
They have employees interacting with sick patients who are not vaccinated. If you are in direct contact with patients, make the vaccine for COVID 19 MANDATORY. IF they don't have the vaccine remove them from that role, keep the population safe!
08 March 2023 9:05
This is erroneous; we have been duped; the Covid Mrna shot doesn’t protect anyone who is vaccinated from getting Covid; Walenski and Fauci admit.
21 August 2021 8:58
Horrible hospital. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Barely did anything for me the one night I stayed there. Absolutely terrible. Calgary Children's Hospital is way better. I always dread having to go to Red Deer Hospital. Nurses and doctors are also horrible. Never go here
02 August 2021 6:43
The level of incompetence at this hospital is both staggering and frightening. If possible, go to Innisfail or Lacombe, in my opinion most of these doctors shouldn't be allowed go practice medicine. I've been lied to, had medications forgotten to be given to me, prescribed wrong medications, and the list goes on.
23 July 2021 16:44
I came to emergency at Red Deer Hospital on July 5th around 3: 30 a.m. They think I had food poisoning with the severe vomiting and diarrhea I had. I was dehydrated too. I had to wait a few hours.but the nurses took good care of me until the doctor could see me. The staff was awesome.patient, helpful and kind. I was out on IV after the doctor checked me and I soon felt better. Thanks to all of the staff there. God bless you for your compassionate hearts.
18 July 2021 2:40
10 people in ER and its a 3hr20min wait. Absurd. Hospital is horribly understaffed and unprepared. Worst hospital in AB for sure.
06 July 2021 3:27
This place is awful the people the place it's all disgusting go to Innisfail or Lacombe if you need to go to a hospital.
30 June 2021 17:28
In June 2017 I was on the road between Edmonton & Calgary when we stopped to use the washroom. I was not on my period but I started to gush blood & tissue. Eventually we called 811 where the nurse told me I may be experiencing a miscarriage (we didn't know I was pregnant). By the time we got to the hospital & was seen I had stopped bleeding.

At one point they told me it would take a minimum of 2 hours before I could receive a test result, so I asked permission to get some food. They said yes, as long as I was back within the 2 hours. I came back to my bed 40 minutes later and was given an earful about how I wasted their time in front of all of the other patients in the area because the test results came back quicker than expected.
Shortly after, I could hear the nurses making fun of me while I was behind a curtain.
When I left the doctor told me "Don't bother coming into the hospital next time you get your period"

I have never been so humiliated in my life. To have a miscarriage was traumatizing enough.
06 June 2021 18:41
Thank you to all the staff on Unit 21. Right from the cleaning staff to the doctors. My 1 day stay ended up as a 6 day stay. I received top professional care. The empathy and treatment they gave me was very appreciated. Chris and Elaine 2 of my nurses have to be named as I think they went above and be on
. Keep up the good work to all the staff at the hospital.
04 June 2021 16:55
Beside the fact that my daughter was born there, and we simply loved all the nurses who took care of her and my wife, we had an experience with the emergency that I really need to point out.
We had an issue with my daughter when she was 1y5m and we needed to go to the emergency. After 10 seconds we stepped into the hospital, I was in a room with my baby surrounded by at least 5 nurses. A doctor came to see my baby in 15 seconds, giving all the support she needed.
Thank you, Red Deer Hospital!
03 June 2021 8:07
My daughter was prepped and ready for emergy surgery this morning.when her covid test came back positive.they made her leave the hospitial and await deparrure on the lawn.oh my god.
20 April 2021 18:06
I was in for day surgery yesterday and I have nothing but praise for everyone, from the timeliness, to the caring and professional care I received.
04 April 2021 7:18
I went into the ER with a broken hand. They booked me an appointment for an operation and sent me home. They called a day later saying to come in. When I showed up they tried to get me to stay in a long term bed and fast for 3 days while I wait for surgery.
I start to realize the whole scenario is wrong. I felt like I was being told a bunch of stories about why my operation is being pushed back and why my appointment was no longer valid. Needless to say I signed the waiver and left. I went to Edmonton for a second opinion. It turns out I only needed a cast for a month and I recovered fully.

I have heard horror stories of how red deer hospitals do unneeded surgeries to make more money as well as keeping all their beds full.

I waited over a year to post this as I wanted to make sure my second opinion was correct. My hand feels amazing and I will never return to red deer hospital. I would rather bleed my way to Edmonton then go thru that living hell again.
21 February 2021 19:09
Took my little boy in November to hospital. Emergency intake staff were very nice. They were pretty quick in getting our son into see the doctor. The doctor and nurses in emerg were very good with our little boy. They were busy as expected but definitely were trying their best. We got sent straight up to the pediatric unit where we spent 3 nights. The hospital had students in which we didn't mind at all. Our son was a great candidate for learning as he has autism and type 1 diabetes. All the staff including the students did amazing. They gave him toys, were so gentle and did well at helping me through the process also
10 February 2021 16:12
Had to bring a friend to the emergency department early Sunday morning. He was admitted right away. Front desk nurse was nice who explained their Covid policy for visitors. They have reserved emergency parking right at the front door which is nice.
28 December 2020 15:07
In August my son was in the Red Deer Hosp ICU on life support for 3 weeks. The doctors and nurses that cared for him were so amazing and informative. I'll never forget it. Thank you.
17 December 2020 21:38
If I could give it a negative star review I would. What kind of shopping centre has 2 tills open at 5pm 24 days till Christmas? Left what I was going to buy because the lines were far too long at the cashiers they had were slower than molasses in January. No sense of urgency to get people through and no one bothered to call more people to the front. Never going back.
16 November 2020 0:09
So I was in the er back on Oct 13th at this time I gave a urine sample at this time they said they lost it so I gave them another. Well today is oct 22 and unfortunately I find my self back here and gave a urine sample as I opened the door to put my cup in I find the sample I gave them 9 days ago.

Now with covid-19 and being told that cleaning is being ramped up this is not right at all also the male nurse that I have tonight told me oh not to worry about it cause it happens all the time.

This does worry me this is a hospital the standards of cleaning should be higher.
15 November 2020 20:54
Unit 21 Maria awesome. Hubby ended up back in 2 weeks later. Rushed in nurse that was on the phone would give NO info and hung up on me. Yes i am upset being over an hour away.
19 October 2020 0:53
Absolute joke of a hospital. I took my mother to this circus and they told her that her hernias needed to be removed or something like that. They listed all these problems but didn't fix/help with ANY of them. She got inhalers and medicine and apparently that equals to $62,000. $62,000 for inhalers and medicine. This place is an absolute joke.
03 September 2020 8:59
I was treated in Red Deer Hospital this past weekend. I was cared for in ER, unit 21 and OR. We are blessed to be cared for so well in these times. Thank you so much.
31 August 2020 3:11
Horrible staff, they act above their patients and have a terrible sense of what helping someone actually means. I went to innisfail hospital and received much better service and treatment. The two women I spoke to last night were flat out sarcastic b*tches, I could barely make sense of what was happening in front of me and they lost it at me for taking a phone call from a concerned family member. Won’t be going back unless I’m dying and maybe not even then! (:
28 July 2020 21:46
Rude people. Staff was terrible when I didn’t bring in my health care card. I sat in the waiting room for an hour, I looked directly at the staff giving looks of ‘help’ I even said “excuse me? ” More then once only for them to awkwardly look away, as my presence didn’t exist. My feet and upper calf were turning purple and cold, I was losing circulation asking for help considering I couldn’t walk. I even asked people around me only for them to shrug or look away as they stared at me shaking. I physically had to get out of my wheelchair to sit somewhere I could properly relax. A female doctor came to me telling me she will be right back with help, then left me alone for an hour of me almost fully going into my seizure. Even after that she still didn’t return, I was brought to another room with still no help. You call this a hospital? Me sitting in there for MORE THEN AN HOUR in my chair permanently damaged my feet having a slight tint of purple markings across, and for my circulation is more messed now. Overall, poor care, very rude staff and extremely judgemental. I was hinted of me being ‘
dramatic’ when it was obvious I was scared/in pain. Pathetic for a healthcare system, just as worse as the one in lacombe. Exactly why I even went here to begin with, and I thought you guys would even do better then them. Smh. With all do respect, how would you handled the situation if I did go into my seizure in the waiting room? Just stood around? Waited for people to start freaking out? Because my god the brains of you people are smaller then pigeons. If it did happen, your career (of whoever was aware, which was the same majority of the staff walking around at the front, clearly aware I was in distress) would’ve been finished. I do have respect for those who save lives, but at least treat people how you would want to be treated. Only difference here compared to lacombe hospital, this place is slightly faster by literally an hour and thirty minutes. The girl with short dirty blonde hair working at the second counter, completely rude about cards and photo ID. Lecturing me how I need to carry it 24/7 and should never forget. I only didn’t bring it THE ONE TIME since it happened so sudden. Maybe if you guys had a positive environment that provides a feeling of safe, and closure, you wouldn’t have such salty people in the waiting room. What goes around comes around, just remember that.

The worst hospital I've been to. I was sitting behind a curtain waiting for hours with no other patients ahead of me. The doctor was too busy flirting with the nurses to help me. I have a low pain tolerance so I was pretty much screaming in pain with torn tendons in my foot, and they gave me some low-grade pain meds (pretty much Tylenol) and crutches and sent me home 4 hours later WITHOUT a cast. It's been about a month and I still can't walk without a limp or walk up stairs. Now I most likely have irreversible damage in my foot. Red Deer hospital is a complete joke. Don't waste your time here.

I was only visiting a patient but as hospitals go this one is 5 star! Very friendly staff. The patients rave about the food! Seriously! The patients (at least the ones I spoke to) also raved about the care they received. There are beautiful indoor gardens so patients can stay connected to nature or spend quality time with family & friends.

Pretty good hospital. I have been there a few times. Most of the time when i go there its to visit someone or to just mess around. I have seen every room in this hospital. Even the rooms that i shouldn't go in. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddddddddd that's all folks.

I’ve been here a few times and I feel like I’m in good hands. It’s a clean facility. Nurses took good care of me overnight.

Wait times are always an issue with emergency rooms.

What I have to say though is that in my experience the staff do an awful amount for what they have to work with.

Red deer has needed an upgrade in their hospital for some time and as a result much of the issues encountered are no fault of the staff but of the conditions.

Consider this a review of the staff more than the facilities available. That part cannot be helped it seems.

The managing nurse in the psych ward that admitted my friend was amazing! She had a great deal of patience and compassion and deserves 5 stars.

My friend has bipolar disorder and had a bad manic episode. She was taken to the hospital where I met her in the examining room. She was frantic so I calmed her down and got her to agree to stay overnight. When the security officer got her in a wheelchair, he walked too fast for me to keep up due to my back injury. When they got out of sight I heard my friend scream. When I caught up to them 10 seconds later, the officer had her arm twisted behind her back. I was livid! Not only was she a mental health patient with a support worker (me) but RDHA treated that shoulder a couple months ago after she suffered a serious car accident. He left several deep bruises on her arm and caused further damage to her shoulder. The reason he assaulted her was because she wanted to take the stairs. She's extremely claustrophobic due to a traumatic incident she suffered in the past and refused to go into the elevator. When I told him about her shoulder injury he immediately let go.

What upsets me most about this situation, besides the security officer not waiting 10 seconds for me to calm my friend down, is that staff who work in emerg don't seem to be trained to deal with patients suffering from mental trauma. My friend was treated more like a criminal than like a person suffering a medical emergency. It also boggles my mind that staff, who may be put in a position where they have to touch a patient who isn't able to communicate properly, aren't made aware of pertinent patient info. I was told it was a privacy issue, though I can't imagine a provider who works directly with a patient, wouldn't be allowed to know if that patient is dangerous to the staff or seriously hurt and requires special care. There's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I immediately requested an investigation and was given a different version of events. When I requested the security footage for the RCMP to prove our version was correct, I was told there wasn't any. I really wish I had thought to take footage with my camera.

I just left emergency room for chronic kidney issues. I was left alone in a room unattended for large periods of time. All I needed was a quick IV procedure as this is an ongoing issue for me.
Instead I was neglected and made to feel as I was a problem client for wanting any kind of service. I was asked to leave my bed to rewait and treated like I'm a drug addict looking for a high. I'm allergic to pain medication. All I wanted was a simple iv and I was basically told to buck up or leave.

Nurses are incredibly rude, not helpful and unprofessional.

The hospital is very inviting and kept very clean and tidy. The wait times are horrendous! The staff for the most part seem to be just moving along doing a job with no regard to human relations.

This hospital is very very dirty.as I watch the housekeeper work I am amused how she has a job? Whoever is managing the housekeeping is doing a terrible job.

My husband received excellent, compassionate care in Emergency last from the paramedics, nursing staff and the doctor. He had to wait a couple of hours but was monitored closely and received appropriate treatment. So thankful for our health care system in Canada.

I was pregnant when I started developing cramping and bleeding and had went to emerg to wait from 12-5 to see a doctor for them to do bloodwork to tell me I had lost my baby with no support the doctor had told me and left the room and didn’t console me or offer any support (I was by myself) as he left the room as I sobbed and cried just for a nurse to ask for my signature for discharge papers to deal with this alone. Not once did they console me which I understand professionals need to maintain a level to not involve themselves but at least offer a third party to talk to or bring in when you deliver this grieving news to send me home. As well as my family doctor calls me hours later to tell me I might be having an ectopic pregnancy and to go back? ! After they’ve let me leave in this state? ! Always a joke here

My boyfriend broke his femur had emergency surgery. That was fine its the aftercare that wasnt good. He was sent to unit 21 for care and he has to basically fight with nurses for pain medication. The doctor overseeing the ward seems like he could care less about patients trying to send him home quickly without proper pain meds or making sure he can get around. Very horrible to be treated this way. When a person is hurt badly last thing they need is to feel like doctor and nurses dont care about them.

I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff are friendly, the nurses are amazing and the doctors are efficient. Our healthcare system has issues but the people at this hospital do everything they can with the resources they have. Sure you might have to wait, but if its an actual critical emergency you will be taken care of right away.

Worst hospital ever. If it were possible to give negative stars I would. The emergency doctors don't seem to really give a f@ck and the nurses don't have enough power to do or say anything against them. The nurses are alright be the the doctors are useless.
