The tonkotsu ramen was overly pickly, and it contained sesame when we asked for no sesame. The kid had an allergic reaction to the sesame and it was not pleasant.

My wife and I enjoyed this restaurant. The layout of this restaurant was clean and cute. It had a real authentic feel when entering the restaurant with the staff greeting you.

We both ordered the katsu curry in which we enjoyed. The curry was delicious and in combination of the breaded pork tenderloin with rice; it was delicious!

We thought the katsu curry was rather cheap compared to some of the other Japanese restaurants we have been to in the past when we initially ordered. However, I felt the portion size was porpriationate to what you were paying for. I was little hungry shortly after our meal. That was the only drawback but all in all, I will be dining here again. The staff provided excellent customer service which was another plus.

The food was amazing! Was recommended by our friends and we definitely loved it. The staff was so nice!

It's an okay place to get katsu curry, but it's not the best nor the worst it's just an okay place if you want a katsu curry. I think they could make the curry better and the katsu less dry, but my friend says their Karaage is really good so hope I will try that next time.

Great weekend brunch buffet with unique offerings such as Japa rice burgers, kimpira sliders and homemade doughnuts and ice cream (the black sesame flavour is outstanding)! Walk-ins are accepted, but I suggest that you make reservations at least a couple of days in advance, as often they get booked up!

We're from LA visiting Calgary + Canadian Rockies and were craving Japanese curry, so we decided to check this place out due to the raving reviews. We ordered the chicken karaage curry and pork cutlet curry, and even though both proteins were cooked perfectly, we thought the curry was just OK. The consistency was great - thick enough/not too runny - but it could have used a tad more spice. Also, the rice wasn't very soft or sticky as Japanese rice usually is.

If you ever come to LA or Irvine, check out Coco Ichibanya, an authentic Japanese curry brand with several restaurants that started in Japan. The curry there is the BEST you'll ever have. They also have spice levels you can choose to your liking.

We also ordered four onigiris (rice balls) and were surprised they were just the premade onigiris that you can easily pick up at a Japanese market. Nothing special here. We were hoping for FRESH handmade onigiris. Oh well.

Service here was prompt and efficient. The staff are all Japanese and speak Japanese, and we felt like we were back in Japan.

Ambiance is casual - a few booths, tables, and some bar seating facing the windows.

We returned there a few weekends ago for our second time.and have never felt so unwelcome, courtesy of your male serving staff.

We left your establishment feeling embarrassed, confused and unfairly targeted. We were looking forward to our second visit and future visits after an enjoyable first visit, but we feel like your male wait staff won't make us feel welcomed should we return. Other tables even made a comment on how we were so uniquely and poorly treated, yikes!

At least your kitchen staff waved us goodbye so warmly and with giant smiles!

Overall incredible experience! The katsu curry dish I tried tasted absolutely delicious and authentic with a great blend of flavour. The place felt extremely cozy and welcoming upon first visit, making it a homey spot to enjoy a meal. The service was stellar as the staff offered to make beverage samples from scratch before purchasing, which was a very considerate gesture. Looking forward to possibly trying more of their dishes/drinks down the line!

The gold standard for Japanese food in Calgary. This place has amazing food in both price and quality and is a gem in this city. You really can’t go wrong here with the selection of food they offer.

This is our favorite restaurant. Most times that we try a new restaurant, we always compare it to the food quality and service at RedHeads Cafe. It is the gold standard for consistency and value in Calgary. We are regular customers for 7 years.

Very good value and some of the best curry in Calgary, the buffett on the weekend is a must go!

Authentic Japanese place. We went there during happy hour which was nice. However I felt like curry had too much meat (pork and beef)

We just discovered this restaurant a few days ago, and everything about this restaurant is stunning. We came in for the brunch buffet (available on weekends from 11: 30-3), and they offer a relatively large variety of items. My personal favourites include the curry rice, japaghetti, and French toast. Their homemade ice cream is different from your normal ice cream, but in my opinion some of the best that I have had, not too sweet. All of the other items are high quality as well.

Service is also excellent. The waitress constantly takes away used plates and refills water. Dishes also come out very quickly. The entire restaurant is very clean and tidy.

You order by writing the quantity of the dishes that you want on a sheet of paper and handing it to the waitress.

The cafe itself is quite small, so make sure you reserve in advance for a guaranteed spot.

Pricing is very reasonable, only $22/person. Everything is extremely well made and delicious. A hidden gem in downtown.

Stopped in here on a whim today for lunch. Ordered the Turkey Bacon Japa sandwich; it was stacked thick and very tasty! Great value!

Will definitely be back to try more things on the menu.

I had the Japa katsu sandwich special yesterday and I can honestly its one of the most delicious sandwiches Ive had in my entire life! I will be back!

Wow! I was blown by the food that's served here. Got me thinking why isn't this place popular. They have some really great flavors. It would remind youboff the time you travel to Japan or teleport you there.

We went over the weekend and had the Sunday buffet. I know ideally given its 2021 and buffet is not a thing but then they have a very smart was to order buffet.

We had the onigiri they are inverted rice burger. I proved the flavours of the onigiri.

We had Miso soup and skewers. Everything is just great there is so much to try and do less tummy can fill.

Would love to go back again.

Love, love, love this place! Originally I discovered them while on the hunt for onigiri, which by the way is delicious and they have a lot of variety for a good price, but I then went through their menu and was surprised at how unique it is! I ended up going with a katsu japa rice burger which isn't really a burger at all but a delightful little rice and seaweed pouch with your selected filling. It is weeks later and I am still thinking about this thing, and the best part? It was $5.50!

Honestly these women are so hard working and nice. The food is never disappointing. We really love walking over and getting the tuna mayo rice balls. Also this sandwich thing was bangin.

Love Redheads! I order from here fairly frequently and everything I've had is delicious but my faves are the pork Katsu burger or the katsu curry plus the food is always ready very quick and the staff are super nice!

Came here a couple days ago with my girlfriend. She got the bento and I ordered the curry ramen, food was standard. Chicken was super crispy though, and the texture of the noodles were quite nice.

Ramen was decent. The staff was super nice.

I do not recommend the onigiri. Bland and tasteless. Barely any filling, mostly just rice. Rice could have had more flavour as well.

Food was good but service was terrible, I think the server may have been having a bad day but don't take it out on your customers

I adore Redheads. Their Japanese street food is delightful, I've tried quite a few items on the menu now, from onigiri to sushi burgers - and have enjoyed everything. The prices are so reasonable.
Fast and attentive service, make sure you book in because it's a popular spot!

This is truly one of a kind cafe. The owners are soooo friendly and the food is delicious. My girlfriend and I eat here all the time! Best french toast I've ever had, and the Japanese inspired dishes are also amazing.

This was my first experience with Japanese Curry and WOW! It was delicious. I popped in on my lunch hour for take out. I was served promptly and my food was ready very fast. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes.

This is probably my favourite restaurant in Calgary for casual and laid back dining. The staff are so sweet, and I have found their food quality to consistently be excellent. The weekend buffet is great value for money, and their take out trays are perfect for a relaxing night home with no cooking and amazing food.

If you are new to this style of food, I recommend trying the curry. Very different then traditional Indian curry, but just as delicious. Really, no matter what you get, you can’t go wrong.
