I had a very challenging and demoralizing experience at Richmond Dental. Particularly with Dr. Gough. I had actually written the practice privately, but the dentist showed no remorse or accountability, and there was no effort whatsoever to make this situation right, so I'm hoping to offer a warning here, particularly to women and to those of you who are experiencing sensitive circumstances in your life, challenges with your mental health, or any other circumstances that would make a dental visit difficult or challenging.

I have taken care of my teeth diligently for my entire life. I missed one cleaning due to the sudden death of my husband a year ago and so I was overdue for one. I am a professional person, with my own small business, I do not smoke, or drink and I take reasonably good care of myself, save for the year of grief I've endured this past year.

Dr. Gough's examination and communication about the condition of my teeth was insensitive and consisted of alarming statements and implications, including telling me they were "covered in bacteria" and that I would need dentures if I didn't take care of it. He finished our exam by turning to the dental hygienist and stating, in front of me "you've got your work cut out for you". The exam was less than ten minutes long. I have never been told this, warned of this in any appointment in my dental history. I spoke with a friend out of town who is also a dentist, and he confirmed that this can occur with a missed cleaning, but that the way this was communicated was unprofessional and unnecessary.

I was almost in shock through the duration of the cleaning, and when I got home I felt so ashamed. The experience bordered on abusive, and so at the urging of a friend I wrote the dental office. Dr Gough did not apologize, did not make an attempt to contact me. Instead his head receptionist, who responded from a different clinic (I guess patient confidentiality doesn't matter). She responded with "We welcome you to return at anytime, however I do understand if you would like to have a fresh start elsewhere. ".

My experience overall with Richmond Dental has been wonderful, the hygienists are great. Unfortunately this particular dentist should perhaps consider some kind of effective communication training to improves the way he practices as I would never interact with him again.

Krystal the hygienist cleaned my teeth for my initial visit and I was so happy on how gentle and compassionate she is! I would highly recommend her and would see her again.

It's worth to say that I have visited 3 different clinics before Richmond Dental and very time there was something, that I don't like. Sometimes the doctor, sometimes attitude. But at Richmond Dental everything is great. Girls at reception always friendly and of course Dr. Gough and Shannon are amazing! Now my wife and I have all our teeth healthy and finally no pain. If you looking for a great service and want to have healty teeth - Richmond Dental will be a right choice. Thank you!

Simply the best clinic in Calgary (and I visited quite a few)! The job young lady did today cleaning my teeth is 10 levels above the others. Highly recommended!

Didnt expect that I would meet very nice people working in here. Accomodating and approachable. They really focus on giving the best for their patient like me. They explain everything I need to know and listen to my questions. I am so happy to their service at Richmond Dental Clinic.

The most wonderful staff all the way from reception to hygienists, dentists and everyone in between. My favourite hygenist ever, normally I get so stressed before cleanings and she made the whole experience calming and memorable.

Great clinic! …Everyone is pleasant and professional. Dr. Gough is especially personable and gentle. I experienced no pain or discomfort during the filling of two cavities and they have always been ready at my appointment time. Zero complaints.

I alway feel comfortable entering Richmond Dental Clinic doors as I know they will treat me for what I need and want, no pressure. The front office staff are first class fro initial arrival till departure.the dental staff are mindful of my request and concerns, they never pressure me into anything always providing a full diagnosis and recommendation of dental procedures before proceeding. Highly recommended dental clinic for you family.

I've been seeing Dr. Gough for many years, and I just wish he had been my dentist when I was a child. I would have been less afraid to go to the dentist, and would have taken better care of my teeth. Technology and techniques are so much better now, and experiences at the dentist are so much easier. Highly recommended clinic.

The office was also very clean and modern, which added to the overall positive experience.
