Amazing exhibit. So much to see, experience and learn, very well laid out. My kids who are 8 and 11 are not huge Dino fans but they loved it. I recommend taking some of the classes they offer.

Great collection of fossils. They do a great job displaying fossils found around Alberta. My kids are glad we bought the membership to the Royal Tyrrell Museum.
27 July 2023 20:36
Lots of information and interaction for the kids. Great layout. The staff were very knowledgeable, and kind. They were very pleasant and would give you interesting facts as they were walking around.

Beautiful facility. Very educational. Lots of reading if you want to learn all about dinosaurs.

20$ admission for an adult is just nothing for this place, the greatest museum of paleontology in the world! Original skeletons and bones, clear explanation, wonderful exhibition!

Wonderful museum with quality exhibits and information. It's huge and has a lot to explore. I loved the portrayal of a bunch of epochs, from some of the earliest life through the most recent ice age.
My husband and I spent most of a day here and absolutely loved it.

This was super cool! There was so many great things to look at and I love that it also showed whether or not the fossils were a cast, the original, or a mix of both. That was super interesting and it shocked me how large some of the artifacts that really were! Another very interesting thing that we saw, that I wasn't expecting, was a viewing area. This is where you can see people working on the actual fossils and getting them prepared for different places in the museum. The TV also displayed instructions of what they were doing as well.

How to plan your visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum - By Me.

The first question you need to ask yourself is how much do you want to read and learn? Second question, is do ypi have little ones?

If you plan on reading, learning, taking in each experience deeply, then you should plan this stop for a full day. For myself this amounts to about 5 hours when I'm focus on moving forward.

If you want to just look, read a little, see all the amazing exhibits and displays, then plan for 1-2 hours trip here.

As far as little ones go, plan according to your child. The museum has a tonne of interactive toys and touch areas for kids (and the kid in you) to experience throughout the museum. There is a whole play area built with families in mind with comfortable seating, a phone charging station, and an area with tables and chairs for snacks and refreshments.

Keep in mind, this is just for the inside of the museum. Around the museum you will be able to find hiking trails, sitting areas, statues, and a lot of great photo opportunities for your family or your Instagram!

Covid-19 Protocols at the time of this review: This establishment is on the Vax program so make sure you have your proof and ID with you before going into the museum. Masks are mandatory. There is plexiglass between you and the cashier's in the gift shop. Lots of sanitation stations located throughout the museum, and from what I could tell, generally located near high touch objects/activities.

As far as an actual review. I love the RTM. So much to see and do. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They keep things in there new and fresh constantly so even if you have been before it is always worth going again. What a wonderful way to experience history. The exhibits are built beautifully with your experience in mind. Definitely worth checking out

Enjoy your adventure everybody!

Very entertaining museum. Had a great time learning about the dinosaurs and seeing all of the eras. I wish there was an exhibit about the history of Drumheller or the museum itself as that's the only thing I felt like it was missing. Spent about 2.5 hours here and read most of the cards.
08 December 2021 23:48
Very well curated museum. There is alot to take in, could easily spend 3 hours here and even more trying to comprehend everything. Beautiful specimens and my favourites were the Ammonites.
08 December 2021 13:56
It is a world class museum and a research facility. One could spend many many hours studying the exhibit and reading all the materials. It is all so engaging, interactive, informative for visitors of all ages. We have to be really grateful for the the chance to experience all that and to learn something new.

Great museum, really amazing displays. We went on the 4 years and up dino bone hike and the guide was out of this world fantastic. Besides being knowledgeable and entertaining he also made the material easy to understand for younger kids while still being interesting. But the best part was during the bone hunt part. This man was excited every.single.time my sons brought him a rock to identify, which was maybe 200 times lol. Honestly amazing.

My 4 year old niece was captivated by the place. I have personally been to the museum many many times, but seeing it all over again through her eyes was great. Even during COVID, it was still such a wonderful experience. I have no idea how the curators and staff keep the exhibits updated and relevant when the subject matter is so very old. Such a wonderful day!
28 November 2021 11:39
Musée super intéressant, notre seul regret: ne pas avoir eu assez de temps pour en faire la visite. Nous avons fait le musée en 2h, mais prenez plus de temps. Les expositions et les activités interactives nous titillent la curiosité même en tant qu'adulte!
24 November 2021 22:44
Drumheller is a beautiful city and Museum is a must see. Location of Museum is the best thing. You can feel as if your are going back in the time.
24 November 2021 18:05
An absolute MUST if you are in Calgary. The skeletal exhibits of dinosaurs found in Alberta and other provinces is fantastic. The information given at each display gives you an in-depth understanding of the organisms presented and their roll in its' ecosystem. Many other displays from the big Bang until today are also presented.
22 November 2021 15:14
Such a great dinosaur experience. Lots of data for the detail oriented and enough big cool dinosaurs for a 3yr old to stay interested in. We will definitely be coming back.
17 November 2021 0:44
Awe-inspiring exhibits! Loved the museum and ended up spending about 3 hours there. A wonderful surprise was the 'Cretacious Gardens', it felt like a rainforest and you might get to see frogs or salamanders.
15 November 2021 3:21
While we planned to visit the museum, this weekend was fully booked. Instead we walked the trails, saw some of the dinosaurs and played in the family play park. There were food trucks for food, clean washroom facilities and adequate parking. We'll be back for the museum and a possible 5 star review
10 November 2021 21:35
Tops of the dino museum food chain. The fantastic exhibits and thorough explanations are excellent, and the attention to detail of the pieces takes time that is worth spending. The extinction events walk, the inclusion of Kurzgesagt videos, the kids learning center, helpful staff, giant Ichthyosaurus.too many to list. One of the best natural history museums anywhere. Enjoyable and well done.
08 November 2021 21:11
05 November 2021 23:27
Unbelievable! World class, compelling and captivating. There is something for everyone. Kids of course love this stuff, interactive stations for almost any age.
The information presented is easily digested and not too technical. Even non interested adults will find something awe inspiring. For an adult only 21 dollars. I am not impressed by much, having travelled the world, takes a bit to impress me, but set in amazing Alberta badlands landscape you cannot pass this up! Sorry for a lack of photos I was just that absorbed in the experience!
02 November 2021 19:16
A place to discover and learn about Alberta's rich fosil record. Plenty of exhibits to look and read. Lots of full sized dinasaur specimens to view and learn about.
01 November 2021 13:46
What an experience to which I highly recommend. The staff were, of course, all adhering to the Covid-19 protocols and ensuring capacity limits were enforced.

The detail, information and quality of exhibits are three things of many that warrant a visit. The tickets are very reasonably priced and the museum is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the province.

I will definitely be making a return visit. I LOVED it!

This is an amazing place to visit, it changes each time I go there is always something that I will not expect to see.
28 October 2021 0:17
This is something beyond my Imagination. You can't imagine the history of creatures in planet earth. Collection of this museum is world renowned. I would recommend this place for everyone's bucket list.
26 October 2021 15:18
First class dinosaur museum. Free parking available. Clean and well organized. Amazing educational displays for young children and adults. Walking trails through out the hoodoos. Millions of years old dinosaur foot prints can be found a long these trails. Highly recommended.
25 October 2021 18:26
Stopped in the museum on a cross Canada trip. Very easy access, the information is plentiful, and amazing displays of life from the beginning of time. The museum delivers all of its aspects at a moderate pace within 2/3 hours, depending on how much reading you want to do.
24 October 2021 17:33
Absolutely amazing time! I loved coming here when I was a child and had an fantastic time bringing my kiddo here too. So much to do and see. Make a day out of it!
24 October 2021 6:20
Great exhibits! I'm kind of surprised they don't have a giant sauropod of some manner or another. The camarasaurus is there but it's one of the smaller of the giants. But maybe that's just because complete fossils are just so rare.
23 October 2021 3:59
Exceeded all expectations. This is one of the best museums we've been to. We also loved the Badlands Interpretive Trail next to the museum. Plan to spend a few hours here.
18 October 2021 14:32
It's a gem! Have been there few times and yet to read and understand all the exhibits. They are well explained and organized. Will definitely visit again!
16 October 2021 21:43
You need to come prepared! I came here with my friends from Calgary thinking that it was going to be a small little Dino museum only to find out that this was one of the best museums in the world and that there was a lot of space dedicated to general science, going all the way from our knowledge of the earliest events, back to the Big Bang and the formation of matter and life! The explanations were very down to earth and clear, making it accessible for everyone. I was very impressed but I would definitely recommend pacing yourself and if it's your first time try to just enjoy the general museum and the flow of it. I tried to read everything and take it all in and my friends were waiting for me to finish, clocking in at about 4 hours worth of walking around in the museum.

There are clear mentions of fossils being original or a cast, which makes it even more special. And to top it all off, the museum boutique has a very high quality items at pretty affordable prices, I took a few souvenirs and their beautiful leather bag. I would definitely recommend for everyone young and old.

If I could make even one suggestion, it would be to add general terms and photos to the scientific names that they have associated to all the fossils. These are not present everywhere and sometimes it would be nice to simply state which animal it is as if I would have had to look them all up individually, I never would have left the museum. Also, the videos were a nice touch, having more interactive displays would be great as well for various parts of the museum.

I had the benefit of not knowing where I was going and came across many surprises, like a garden showing what the environment of the dinosaurs would have looked like with plants that are alive today, and large backdrops and noises that made the experience fully immersive.

Thank you Royal Tyrell Museum for offering this knowledge and beauty to people all around the world, especially one showcasing the wide variety of dinosaurs and findings local to Alberta. Your museum has helped me put Alberta on the map in more ways than one.

The museum is awesome. One of a kind in the world. We spent more than 2 hours and could have spent more. Very well organized. It's easy to reserve a spot and book in advance, upon entrance we were so excited and it was more and more exciting when we were moving forward. The last section, Gallery, was the best and most memorable section. I strongly recommend it.

Amazing museum on the area, finds from there and general timeline of earth. It was awesome to see the dinosaurs and learn about earth's evolution. They have some unique and well presented specimens that are worth seeing. It also has a window into the fossil workshop so you can see actual specimens being worked on and how much care is taken and the details they go into to set up an exhibit for viewing. That part was really neat as most museums don't have the ability to see that.
02 September 2021 14:39

Had a wonderful time Here. Wonderful set up, professionally exhibited with lovely interactive content and a whole lotta information.
21 March 2021 16:20
Went here as a child and was a awsome time to learn all about these dinosauars and now i go back and still a great time
20 March 2021 10:33
I visited in March of 2019. AMAZING COLLECTION AND DISPLAYS! 3.5h was not enough time to fully see inside.
19 March 2021 3:54
I ordered some dinosaur toys online from the giftshop. They were delivered by Canada Post to Ontario in a week. I had a question about one of the toys and received great customer service from a staff person I called at the shop. This was all during the closure for Covid 19. I would highly recommend this shop for your dinosaur loving friends and family.
22 February 2021 4:06
Very cool, interesting museum! Adults and children were engaged and entertained - some of the best dinosaur exhibits in the world (IMO).
13 February 2021 18:42
Visited twice, and loved so much both times. So many things to see, so much history to enjoy. The museum will take you back millions of years ago on the earth.
11 February 2021 9:26
Wonderful place to travel back to the dinosaur times? I'm looking forward to visiting it again with my two little paleontologists
03 February 2021 6:41
OMG it lives up to its hype even with Covid restrictions. Kids loved it! They are doing a great job keeping us safe.
31 January 2021 8:15
Got boned here

Edit: nvm museum staff was very rude when I went down on the tyranosaur
25 January 2021 13:41
Neat place to see dinosaur bones and read about dinosaurs etc.wow there was an "albertosauraus" from Alberta! Yikes! But the line up for the gift shop was ridiculously long (prob an extra 30 minutes to 1 hour wait) so I just left without picking up a gift for lil ones: (now I have to make another trip to drumheller some day.
18 January 2021 1:59
There was no one there, basically had the place to myself. Its always so amazing to look back in time.
17 January 2021 18:09
It was an amazing visit this year! With the reduced amount of patrons allowed in due to Covid-19 restrictions, we had time to enjoy each exhibit without the crowd.
04 January 2021 7:46
Absolutely love the Royal Tyrrell. It was a free entry day and they had staggered entry, which was dealt with fabulously. The museum is packed to the rafters (literally) with dinosaur bones. Separated into eras with information on the type of animals living in that era, it is breathtaking to look at and factual for those who want to know more.
I also really like the section where you can watch the staff at work removing new found bones from the rock.
Outside, you are slap bang in the middle of Hoodoo country. Go and explore, look for unique rocks - but remember, no taking samples home.
13 December 2020 7:37
What better place to understand the history of the world then exploring life of those that went before us - by like a gazillion years! We liked the larger than life dinosaur fossils and each exhibit identified the location and time in Alberta where the fossils were found - it really made it personal. A must see in Alberta!
