Nice Safeway but I often find the staff pretty unpleasant, especially at self checkout. On multiple occasions their machines have errored out for whatever reason, and the staff have come over and treated me like I’m stealing. I watched one woman count my items when I asked for help because my blueberries weren’t scanning. Either that or they just ignore you and continue chatting with other staff while your machine freaks out about the weight of one of your items.
I dislike Safeway. This one is close to my house and I needed bread. Only reason I'd ever stop. I never do full shopping at Safeway. Overpriced like all safeway/sobeys. Go pretty much anywhere else unless you like to overspend.
It's in the middle of renovations right now so it's kind of a mess, but I do enjoy this store and the location. Has decent product options but it's a little on the pricey side compared to superstore. Also they have switched to the scene loyalty points and got rid of Airmiles.
Sale tags should be taken down the night before the sale ends or first thing in the morning, you’d think right? They’ve been open 3 hours (it’s 10am) and the old sales tags are still up (ending June 14), which ended up making my budget over. Thanks guys super helpful! Regardless, half the staff are super friendly and the other half seem somewhat miserable. It’s a clean store.
As my local grocery, I expect a lot. The team at this Safeway is consistently amazing. I have made friends with some of the front end staff. I love Alan I miss the announcements made by the very cheerful Butcher. During Covid the staff went above and beyond. I am glad to see their smiling faces again.
Typical Safeway with a Starbucks, a Florist and a Deli. Very handy location for Elbow Park & Marda Loop residents. Good store. Clean & well organized. DMack.
Sadly this seems to be the state of almost every loaf of bread I buy at this Safeway over the last few years and it continues to get worse. We try to support local bakeries but sometimes you just need a loaf of bread while getting the rest of your shopping done. I guess the brightside is that with butter prices where they are we are saving on that (no space to put it).
Conveniently located and a great go-to for quick in and out shopping. I find even I busy hours, there is a way to quickly get in (avoid 33rd Street at all costs) and several ways to get out.
Stood at customer service for over fifteen minutes asked someone fro help twice during that and still never ended up getting help lol. The store was not busy at the time.
Lovely Safeway in one of the loveliest neighborhoods in the city. I came here to receive a Western Union transfer and Keith was super friendly and helpful, amazing customer service! Gale was also excellent as well. Thank you!
Bought yogurt today (Nov 1st) got home and realized it expired Oct 27th. Called store they said bring back tonight. I said it was late that is not possible.they replied ok good night. I will not return.
Huge thanks to Colleen at the bakery for making a couple cupcakes with green icing my toddler! We promised him a treat after he gets his hair cut, and we weren’t sure if we would find any since we’re six months from Saint Patrick’s Day!
Again if it was possible to give ZERO stars I would. Some of the women working in this store are beyond rude. Literally huffin and rolling their eyes at me because i wanted to use the western union. I do not understand why they offer this service if their staff hate to deal with customers wishing to use it. Then I was told they didn’t have $500 in store to give me. I find it incredibly hard to believe Safeway in Garrison Woods does not have $500 cash in store. Terrible customer care / service. It’s very clear some of these women hate their jobs and are taking that hate out on customers. I phoned the stored to chat with customer service as to why I was made feel like such an inconvenience to them and the woman on the other end of the phone was just as rude and said “Yeah, oh well”. WOW SAFEWAY is this really ok customer care behaviour?
Bring your own bags now, which is good except you have to buy a paper bag now (if you dont bring your own) for. 10$. Why this cost goes to the consumer, ill never understand, but I digress. This is a nice enough store as far as Safeway's go i guess.lol
Prices are pretty high and beware you will see at least one maskless person everytime you go, also no one seems to be able to follow the arrows on the floor and the produce section is always a free for all. Would be nice to see Covid rules enforced.
The Cashier told me I HAD TO $ BUY $ a BAG (shopping bag). I already have too many if these plastic bags at home! Later, I saw several people walking out of the store with PAPER BAGS, that Safeway supplied! But, she NEVER OFFERED these to me!
Good Safeway store right by the neighbourhood. Store is clean and well stock. The only negative thing I have to say is they don’t have much variety of produce just the basics. Everything is well stock so not a bad Safeway.
This is just an OK grocery store. Produce usually old. Even premium cut meat is normally tough and sinewy. Male staff are not helpful and always seem mad at the world. I'm going to have to stop being lazy and drive further to the coop.
Well stocked shelves - it's rare that you'll go here and not find the essentials you need. You are paying a premium for the quality on offer and probably the location of Garrison Woods too, but for convenience, this has never really bothered me. It feels much more of a 'small town', 'local' grocery shop than say, Walmart or Canadian Superstore which I also think is a positive. In terms of when to go, after school/work is usually busy and there are often short lines to the checkout which take a good few minutes to clear - therefore, despite the relatively small size of this supermarket, it's not necessarily somewhere you can get in and out of quickly if you arrive during the rush.
Stock/available merchandise is quite inconsistent, even pre-covid. Customer service and friendliness of staff is equally hit & miss.
I visited yesterday evening and interacted with 4 different employees - most were not very courteous. The employee stocking the produce section was downright off-putting. I apologized for wanting to access the pre-packaged salads next to her: in response she kind of grunted without smiling. She did not let me have at the salads so I waited (not wanting to interrupt her job of stocking product.for customers to purchase.). Then while walking down the power aisle near the back of the store another employee comes barreling past me with a trolley of product so fast I had to jump to get out of his way. Whoops. Zero acknowledgement of my presence. After going through self-checkout I gave the staff member a friendly greeting to which she replied with an unsmiling, vacant expression. The 4th staff member was great - a gentleman near the doors who gave me a hello-nod. Way better than a vacant stare or a sneer.
Anyway! None of these interactions are that bad, for sure. But as someone who's worked in retail & customer service for at least a decade this is not how one should behave towards a customer.
*And no, I wasn't in the store seconds before closing.which I know can be frustrating for staff who may (unfortunately) respond with rudeness towards customers. *
Rudest group of women work in this store! If they hate their jobs so much they should work somewhere else. I watched one of the women speak to an elderly lady so rude today. I’ve been spoken to rude before by a few of these women and I’ve seen them rude to many customers but what I seen today has made me so angry! Shame on you all
It's a Safeway, and I would say it is about the exact same as every other Safeway I've ever walked in to. Not sure why anyone would read reviews about a Safeway but if you've made it this far into mine, I apologize
I have had to return fruit and produce here multiple times that had some rotten pieces inside, as well as some condiments, milk and drinks that had the seal opened inside. I didnt want to take any chances as I've seen some youtubes of people tampering with products in stores. I had a Mustard that the seal under the lid was already peeled open, as well as a milk that appeared to have been opened, and several fruits & veggies that had peices rotting inside the packaging, or on the bottom side where you cant see it until you open it. On my last 6 or 7 outings to this location, I've returned something 5 of those times. SORRY, I THINK SOMETHING IS UP WITH THIS LOCATION! I like Safeway, but have pretty much discontinued shopping at this location and now I go farther away to stock up.
Nice store and staff. Well run, especially relative to some other locations in the area with a good variety of produce and international themed food options.
Nice grocery store and staff. Good produce and meats. It has lots of other amenities near by, also has bakery, liquorstore and Starbucks in the lot. As it is Safeway it is slightly more expensive then a Superstore or Walmart but the quality is higher.
Very convenient for me and have a decent meat section. Until recently they carried an amazing bone in rib eye that was massive. Staff are always helpful and always have tons of stock.
It's a Safeway. Cashiers at this location love to complain to us about their lives and jobs, but otherwise not a lot differentiates this from any other Safeway. Not many sketchy folks hang around this one, I guess?
I really like the staff here in general, very friendly. Except for most of the managers. Kind of crusty to deal with in comparison to the rest of the staff.
This is the store where I buy all my groceries. Love it, it’s close to my house and has everything I’m looking for. Some of the deals can be great and staff is always helpful.
Always clean with helpful staff. Fairly well-stocked vegetables and large floral section compared to other Safeway’s. Their donuts are pretty good for $. 89 each. Did I mention they make cronuts?
10 year plus customer of this Safeway location. Yesterday out of Diet Pepsi and my favourite tea. Lots of gaps on the shelves. Whole missing sections. Ordering out of sync? Aisles crowded way too many extra vendor cardboard setups. Store looks messy & unorganized. Not enough cashiers or grocery packers. In the process of making my major grocery store switch.nothing worse than not getting most of your list completed in one go around. Can't imagine how difficult it is for young families.
Little older but so very nice safeway. Pretty standard - complete with its own produce section, bakery, deli, pharmacy and Starbucks. They have amazing deals throughout the week on various items. Cashiers are generally quick and friendly as well, which is always a plus. Best and most affordable grocery store near Marda Loop in my opinion.
