For the most part this Safeway is fine, sometimes I found the customer service to be lacking but then I have also interacted with very friendly staff here. It’s definitely on the more expensive end but I find the produce is fresher and in better shape than Walmart on the other side of the mall. It is always clean in my opinion even though the bathroom could use an update lol.
I've been shopping here since it opened, many, many years ago. It's smaller than some other Safeways but it has all I need. The butchers are very knowledgeable and helpful.
I recommend that you think twice about shopping here with kids. My six year old needed the bathroom while we were grocery shopping and the only public bathroom in the store was out of order. And the staff had no interest in finding an alternative for me so we had to leave so I could find my child a bathroom.
Safeway has always been my preferred grocery store choice. My loyalty began with my Mom being a Safeway employee for 30 years. I am also a very loyal Air Miles collector, and this definitely helps in keeping me coming back.
I have bought chicken breasts and drumsticks from there on 2 separate dates and when I opened it to cook them they both had a very bad smell. They were obviously rotten. Were not expired or close to expired nor close to expire date. I tried calling for hours just to get no answer. My boyfriend emailed them to get no reply. I was q regular weekly shopper but not anymore. The oranges and cucumbers on the stands are rotten. I bought a 5lb bag of potatoes that were full of maggots from a couple of rotten potatoes. Again, no answer when I call to complain. Avoid this establishment!
This was a store I was not liking but went again because it’s close. Vegans are winning and this store has a lot I was happy with all the choices I got. Watch on sale items as they are old produce and cooked aren’t good. Till people are not good they forget customers are right be quiet smile you have a job to do. If someone don’t like something and it’s his groceries your opinion isn’t needed. I don’t like liver around my food it’s for the dog and I didn’t only get rude I also got a look. Go here to much and most or all tellers her need a different career. Mean old Opinionated people complaining to the people paying. This is not right. Why go here. 3 is for the food getting better in the vegan ways 1 for checkout for years. No ones happy on staff here. Merry Christmas and have a good year.
When I need to go to the Northgate Mall for foodstuffs it's Walmart first and then Safeway. I don't compromise when it's fruits and vegetables I try to find ways to squeeze out a few more dollars so I can buy these foodstuffs at Safeway. I also go to Safeway because there is still someone that'll bag for you. If one has any issues when they've bought something from Safeway at this particular location the Manager will give a heads up to the others so they can take care of you.
It's not what Safeway used to be. It's even more expensive than Safeway was in years past.but after shopping at the RCSS, Safeway, under Sobey's is everything that was bad with Safeway and added the trailer park trash feel of Sobey's
Other then my child being a Lil brat, it's usually a very nice calm grocery shop. I don't get followed around being targeted as a shop lifter like I do in WM an other neighboring stores.
Safeway has never made me feel any different then any other shopper there. Unfortunately it's the norm to target first nations sadly enough, but for not doing this every time I shop, I cannot Thank you enough.
As for the cashiers, they are so friendly and accommodating. It's a bonus to that they always interact with my little one.
Very nice ladies behind the deli counter. Advised me against my choice and I went with their pick and was very happy. Thank you oh, and the store is quite clean and has a very wide selection of ethnic foods for a fairly decent price.
Cashier said they have a new policy of only on coupon per person. Which is not that same at any other Safeway. As well decided they did not want to take the coupon I had be cause it was a printed coupon from an email. Will not be shopping here anymore.
I raced there to get just a water jug that they sell right at the front and they were closed doors locked at 950. Very unprofessional will never come here again I'll drive the extra distance to another grocery store
Every employee I spoke to was rude or said nothing to me. I asked a simple question and got snapped at, I am packing my bags and the bag girl was leaning over the conveyer belt into my space and doing nothing, I asked for more bags three times while she leaned there not listening, then the cashier yelled at ME saying to tell her what I wanted, even though I did? Then the girl says nothing still, just holds up a purchasable reusable bag, and I had to ask if there was another option to which, again, no response just points to the paper. This was after several other unsavoury interactions with their other employees that same evening.
Good product's. I think the cashiers need cleaning up the hand when touch cash. Because I sow today some costume paying by cash the cashier no cleaning she hands.
I was disappointed due to vegetables being rotten on the shelf. I thought I picked a good onion. When I got home the middle was rotten. Not sure if anyone else has had this experience.
Was formerly a 2, last 3 visits to store manager was visible and very helpful. I think he is new. Making a big difference in my shopping experience. Went up to 5 stars as manager is making a difference
It is clean and organized. It is well stocked, even during the COVID-19, I have always found what I need. They usually have decent deals. The staff is friendly and helpful. I like to use the self-checkout and it is always available quickly.
Clean store, good sale prices, regular priced items not the greatest. Like other stores, a lot of your fellow shoppers can't read directional arrows and distance *requirements. We still have a pandemic going on. Staff is helpful and friendly, s well as courteous.
Went there today, went to customer service to ask a question and they just gave me a really odd attitude.there's one nice employee that works during the evening shift as cashier
Poor customer service and rude customer service. Price signs on items incorrect “ a lot “ without customer getting it for that price on said signs, I’m not the stocker and don’t set out signs or make the prices. I messengered them and still no resolution! Bye Safeway! North Gate.
Ordered a Birthday cake and was servery disappointed! It was FROZEN! Saturday morning (10 AM) Put in an order for a cake from one of the binders a blue birthday celebration cake with lots of icing. Went to pick it up on Sunday (2: 30 PM) the cake looked nothing like what i was expecting, white icing and plastic balloons stuck in it. Fine what ever I take it, We get to the party and when the birthday girls goes to cut it the custard in the middle is frozen solid! So gross!
Safeway is the Cadillac of grocery stores. The ambiance is wonderful, a perfect place to enjoy your grocery shopping. Safeway has it all. There is Starbucks in the store along with a deli bar. There is a pharmacy. Everything is done well in this store. The staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable but with the quality of service and store ambiance there is a bit of a premium to pay.
There have been some exceptions, but largely I've found that the staff often look and act like they'd rather be anywhere else. Almost no one is lucky enough to love their job, but if you work customer service you need to at least fake like you're happy. At least in my opinion
Very bad service and rude, bought a flower and box of chocolates and asked them to be wrapped so I could take them to a patients at the Hospital. They said we could wrap the flower but we don't wrap the box of chocolate!
A well-stocked, large grocery store with Pharmacy, Deli, Bakery, and Floral department. Fresh produce of generally good quality, even in winter. And I've spent many hours browsing through their greeting card aisles. It's one of the more costly grocery stores but keeps long hours, has lots to offer (such as a Western Union and free wifi) as well as a free taxi phone to CoOp. It can get very busy and you sometimes have to stand in line for several minutes. But they pack your grocery bags and sometimes I will grab a Starbucks hot chocolate and/or get something fresh to eat from the deli (they'll make you a sub sandwich from scratch). Then sit at their indoor tables for the checkouts to clear up, while I surf the net for free. The Sheffield and Sons tobacco store and M&M Meat shops are right outside the doors leading into the mall. It's a handy, one-stop store. Which is very good for busy schedules and cold winter days. Lots of parking and a Safeway gas station too, with a mailbox outside.
Safeway uses more till workers that make the buying experience much better. A cashier is proven to be much faster than a self check out. A machine algorithm with limited responses and required extra security to replace a person can be a frustrating experience. Competitive quality and prices with rewards and sales to rival competitors.
My favourite store of all fresh quality food everytime. Great service from all staff. And its easy to find everything you need. Including foid personal products and pet supplies
Service was okay, prices are comparable with Sobeys, which owns Safeway. I find Sobeys usually has better selection and stock, though sometimes Safeway has better baking and occasionally has some good deals.
The store it's self is usually well stocked. Starbucks is amazing. However they have stopped supplying a lot of products ocer the last year and it seems like everything is priced quiet high.
Very nice shopping experience with low level lighting, dark wood tones and quiet music throughout the store, like you might find at a place of fine dining. Unexpected for this day and age.
I enjoyed shopping at Safeway Northgate because I know the store well; they always have good sales. I particularly like the deli; I enjoy the fresh ingredients and the fact that they are made daily.
I used to be a loyal customer however since sobys took over many of the products I Love are no longer available.also the pricing is much higher and choice's much less
Food quality is terrible, bought a sandwich not only looking so gross but moldy too. Customer service just shrugged it off saying usually they just give a refund. In my case, already ate half of it, don’t think a refund is good enough.
The cashier was very slow moving and swearing about opening a roll of change and a couple of other various duties. The store itself feels very unorganized and dingy.
Associates are a mixed bag here. I had a very nice man show me around the store to help me pick my groceries. Another woman at the customer service was very salty for the simplest question. But overall very nice store and I'll recommend for all your daily groceries. Great location too right in the Northgate center. You pretty much do all your shopping here.
Big fat guy in deli section is absolutely useless.he stands around and whispers about how crazy customers are and how "crazy" it was, like it's your job to serve people hot food etc.how hard could it be. Then he gives dirty demeaning looks like he's more important than anyone there. Lazy fat deli counter guy who gossips in front of customers.disgusting Safeway.
