Safeway Southgate

Just stop there are very nice I go there on a regular basis most of them know me even by name. They're all very warm friendly and welcoming.

I'm happy that this Safeway is still here as most have closed!
The produce is good, same as the meat and I love the store made Flatbread and food.

The only issues for me is Safeway is expensive compared to Walmart and freshco, this one juice I get at freshco for 2.49 is 4.69 at Safeway. After noticing that I realized why my grandma went to multiple stores to grocery shop

The other issue for me is that the store entrance that is closest to the mall is closed now. So we have to walk allll the way around when coming from the mall and I just know it's going to suck in winter.

Besides that, I love this Safeway. The staff are friendly and it's easy to find everything you need.

Check the date on your meat. Bought ground chicken and got home and best before was 2 days prior

The workers are always grumpy and scowling at me when I’m going thru the aisles don’t get me started on the old lady geez

Loved it. Large store with a lot of options for meat, vegetables, fish, bakery and cooked hot dishes

Went to do self check out today. That lady in-charge is so rude! Can’t assist in a nice way when my machine calls for help she doesn’t have the energy to work at all. Needs to improve customer service!

I don't mind shopping there some stuff can be expensive but I like there food because it's fresh

Not a huge fan of this store. I went here to refill my waterwent to the only cashier available and she spent most of her time with the Caucasian customers she knew socializing and laughing out loud, while cashing out the few items they had. Myself and another customer waited for what seemed forever before I was finally served. The cashiers demeanor changed, she was nowhere near as friendly as she was with her white customers prior. She seemed abrupt, and quick to get me out of there, not even an apology for making myself and the other customer wait for just a few items. I'd sooner travel to Century Park Safeway. They are more attentive.and faster to get people checked out.

Always fresh baked goods. High quality brand products.

William at the cash register is extremely rude. It's pretty sad when a customer is the one who greets the employee and the employee returns it with silence. Maybe get off your phone and so your job.

We go there everyday because it is a well maintained store and close to our house. We bike there all the time and it is always a problen to find a place to lock our bikes. The staff at safeway have been really kind for watching our bikes while we pick up what we need. But it is really disappointing that a nice mall like this is not providing their customers a bike rack by such a busy grocery store. Steps should be taken to provide us, customers with a bike rack by the Safeway entrance. People will start shopping elsewhere if this continue to be an inconvenience.

VERY RUDE STAFF AT SELF CHECK OUT! I visit at around 7: 10 pm on 2021/4/9, I bought the vegan chocolate chip cookies and I can not scan the code, so I asked the staff for help. It marked $5.99 on the box, but there's a promotion this week, the price on the promotion card is $4.49+5 bonus airmiles. When I tried to talk to the staff, she interrupted me with a rude and loud voice: it is $5.99 and didn't show any respect to me! At this time, she ought to go to the shelf to have a double check rather than roar to the customer. Very unsatisfied with the staff!

The pharmacy staff are super helpful and knowledgeable. The manager understood my issue and was more than willing to help me. Thank you. I would definitely recommend giving them a try!

It just always not enough of cashier especially in the morning if your rushing to buy. Not all people knows how to use the self check out. And it takes long even u used it cauz of the items needs to weight.

I just called Pharmacy (12: 39 PM Mar 15-2021) to get the appointment for my COVID 19 vaccine, the Lady picked up the phone and talked very rude and hang up very quick without saying "sorry or thank you"

They open early and close late. 7 am to 11 pm. Good selection good prices. Best to shop first Tuesday of the month for the 15% off day.

It's fairly well-stovked, with emphasis on pre-made items. They know how many university students live nearby. These days, there's not many staff on, so there were only 2 open tills when I was there. There's always someone out front ready with hand sanitizer.

My fav safeway. This place never seems to be busy! Always friendly staff, selection is always top notch. A bonus is the Starbucks inside which is one of the best in my opinion.

Classic safeway layout. I really like that they have hand washing stations as well as offering sanitizer.

People stayed thier distance and it was a clean store. The cashier was a bit rude. She threw plastic bags at us but we had our own. No smile or Thank you. I don't live in Edmonton but I won't shop here again.

Got charged wrong price for a box of nespresso coffee pods. Didnt notice till I came home. Hopefully they will take them back at a different safeway closer to home

The best! I don't think so that there is any other word which is best than best. To describe how best they are. Ooo too many best haa, well that's what they are! The best.

I love it because it is close and the have a large container of Lard, which is almost as healthy as olive oil, look it up.

This Safeway is within walking distance for me so that's why I go there sometimes. Of course like every location my grocery bill is a little higher when I shop it seems but they always have what I need and are convenient.

Self checkout is usually your best bet unless you want to wait in line. They have great produce and seemingly always have Lysol spray even during covid. That said their prices are easily 15-30% higher than their competitor stores.

Good place, if you wanna build a fort in the toilet paper then this is the place to go. You can also pay double for stuff they have at other stores

Decent polite employee but the lineup can be large due to its convenience.somewhat good selection but the stocks are not too consistent

Their silent shoppers are extremely obvious and have no preference to whom they follow and for a short period of time I believe I witnessed everyone in store being followed at one point. They are ruthless and I'm unsure if I would ever shop there again due to their extremely high level of bias (in the sense that they trust nobody)

My cashier was good people though for his good moral compass towards returning the blonde lady's wallet I had come across.

They have sensory sensitive shopping nights where they dim the lights and music and turn off the machine beeping. It's very relieving to shop in peace especially if you have sensory issues or anxiety!

It is okay. I am not really used to it. I could not find the organic food section However the cashier who cheched me out was awesome

Normally groceries here are a bit more expensive compared to some other grocery stores but once in a while I'm surprised by some good deals.and their donuts/muffins are good! Lol
It's also nice that it's not as big and busy as other grocery stores but still has basically everything.

This Safeway is always clean. The staff are very friendly and always eager to help. I've never had an issue locating items here and 99% of the time the items are in stock and on the shelf. The staff always go above and beyond for their customers.

Typical safeway, no complaints other than they no longer carry several products that they used to carry before being bought out.

Didn't like this Safeway at all. I had bought an already made Greek salad at Safeway at Oliver not too lobg ago and really liked it so i wanted to buy again but they didnt have it. Wanted brussel sprouts they didn't have it. I wanted baby shrimp that they used to pack in trays they didn't have it. Instead they had a small bag for $17.00 too exoensive. I feel that since Sobey merge wuth Safeway its has gone realky down in their priducts.

Have more then one check out lane in operation on a saturday evening. The self checkout doesnt count, customers dont appreciate working for safeway for free by ringing in their own groceries.

Looks and feels dirty. Was out of half the produce and the whole place had a funky odour to it. Needless to say, i walked in and walked right out. Will definitely not go back.

Nearly every day I shop at the Safeway near southgate, either to get dinner or pick up things that I need. Today around 7pm, I went in to pick up some things, roughly around 10$ worth of stuff. I paid and decided that I might want a few more things, so I walked around the store with my already purchased items. After a few minutes, I notice a gentleman staring at me as I was shopping, looking directly at my grocery bag the entire time. I as I go to leave, for some reason I got confused with the doors and asked him which way was out, no idea why. He looks directly at my bag again as if everything was stolen, ignored me completely than rudely replying that the doors are the same. He then looked at my items again as I was leaving. I lifted the bag and assured him that it was all paid for. Never have I been treated this way, no idea if it was race or my appearance. I will not be shopping here again.

Typically, as per my other reviews, I opt to leave reviews only for places wherein the service or people (Mainly people) involved go above and beyond the call of duty! Southgate Safeway is one of these places.
After moving to Southgate 4 months ago and only coming in occasionally, I've had few chances to really see the workers inside - or so I thought! During this very busy holiday season, the staff (Of who were clearly not having the most stress-free time) still took the time to light up and greet me as if I were a daily customer. Blame it on my outlandish personality that's hard to forget, or not - You can tell that the people here are working because they're great with customers and like making people's day.
One cashier lady I had here stands out a lot in a positive way (Apologies for forgetting names) - who had a perm with dark colored hair - She's absolutely a hoot and clearly is great at both her job and interacting with customers. One single visit and I remember it months later. Great people, selection is quite satisfactory.

Consistent shortage of cashiers/staff. I don't understand how every other Safeway in the city is so much better than this location.

Everything you could want for groceries is here.a bit pricier but Safeway has always been better quality for food and service.
